- One of the tools I reach for the most in my woodworking shop happens to also be the cheapest. A simple scrap of MDF with a sandpaper face can get you out of a jamb in a lot of situations.

In a world where woodworking creators put weird music, or video edit in Hollywood movie scenes and other non sense or tell you about their lives and what not or generally take 10x too many words to say anything
This channel is so very welcomed!
Two thumbs up
You don't appreciate crappy music that has absolutely nothing to do with the subject at hand.. Me either..
Easy. Simple. Smart. 3 words that define every video you put on here.
Could not have said it better.
Me either
Agreed, you nailed it
Agreed
I’m disappointed I’m only now finding your channel. Two videos in and I’m happily subscribed. Can’t wait to see what else you have to bring to the woodworking community!
You can do the same thing with some silicon caulk. Just butter on as level as you can, use a slotted credit card works too. Let it dry completely and it’ll stay sticky without leaving any residue and won’t hurt your sharp tools should your tool runs into it.
My experience e is that rubber (I use backside of mouse pads) is far superior to sandpaper for any push block application like this. Better grip and lasts much longer. Also they are thicker and not dependent on a perfectly flat surface as sandpaper is...and they don't scratch laminate.
Squishier and less accurate as a result, though.
@@jefftothealbright have you tried it? I've used both adhesive attached sandpaper and mouse pad stapled to a push block and I see zero advantages with sandpaper between these two. The pad is only 2mm thick and quite close staples means it doesn't move at all.
Also works great as a ... sanding block. :)
I actually make smaller MDF blocks and then spray mount different grits to them. Need to sand a corner edge and keep it perfectly 90º? Use the block on edge right on the table surface and you're good to go. Great tips!
When resawing for veneer on the bandsaw, glue the stock on to a piece of MDF that is a bit longer than the stock. Now you have a safe and flat backer board to place against the fence, and next to run through the planer before the next pass through the saw.
I made a similar push block with an offcut of plywood. Put some 80-grit sandpaper on one edge, which is useful for keeping my hands above the table saw while providing some "stick" to help guide the wood through.
Another brilliant tip! You are one of the best channels out there for woodworkers. Keep 'em coming!
Before I could afford diamond sharpening blocks I bought rolls of progressively higher grit adhesive backed sandpaper, which, you guessed it, eliminates using the 3m spray(which I can’t live without)! Great tip!
I first made these some time back for use as sanding blocks, and they worked fine. Now I see I have actually got multi-use tools! 😃
Another similar use tool I made to stop my sharpening stone from sliding is a piece of MDF with a thin layer of silicone sealant spread onto it. This works great, and I have used the technique on other items that I want to have some 'grip'... such as sawbench 'pushers'. The silicone eventually loses its grip when dust coats the surface, but a wipe with a damp cloth rejuvenates it somewhat.
Thanks for your video. 👍
A channel with a well deserved name: Inspire Woodcraft
This jig is the woodworking equivalent to that magical 5-in-1 painter’s tool.
------------
Remember kids to properly clear out the nozzle of that expensive but handy spray adhesive so you can get every bit out.
Hold upside down and spray until no adhesive comes out, just the propellant. Should be 2-6 seconds. Sane for any spray paint.
I used a case daily for adhering insulation to things.
Paint thinner/Varsol gets it off.
Such a tool deserves a name! ... I suggest "The multi-purpose abrasive MDF sanding block Pro" or for short. Dave. ... Also, would it helper to have the abrasive on both sides? as the part your fingers are pressing is pretty smooth and likely to slip?
This is one of the most useful yourube accounts for woodworking ive found with zero filler and no dumb ideas thatll put my fingers in jeopardy
The Microjig Grr-ripper guys will HATE You for this video! :P
Jodee - Can’t thank you enough for all these tips. There are so many you have presented that I’ve added to my shop routine! So very much appreciated. I look forward to every new video you present.
Simple, straightforward and useful... Dig it!!! Thank you!
Just wanted to say that I appreciate your to-the-point videos. Not a bunch of fluff, nonsense or goofing around. And not Shorts. Man, I hate those! Even your thumbnails are just the right blend of information and lack thereof; I never wonder if it's going to be clickbait with your stuff
Thank you for one of the best, simplest ideas for a novice woodworker like myself.
You make some of the most informative videos on RUclips. I hope to see more of your content soon.
When running against the fence to square up the edge, the block needs to remain in contact with the fence through the entire cut; otherwise, the cut will taper out as the material shifts into the fence at the end of the cut.
Your videos are probably some of the most useful woodworking videos on RUclips.
I love simple little finds like this!
Brilliant. Simple and so many uses.
Such a simple jig. So useful. I tip my hat to you.
Absolutely brilliant idea.
Fantastic idea! Gotta make me one of those for the shop! Thanks! 👍👍
Thanks Jodie.
What a cracking idea. I have made a few of these over the years for the obvious use of sanding blocks. It never occurred to me to use them as push blocks. Particularly like the idea of referencing against the fence on my table saw. Thanks for sharing.
Best tip I've seen in a long time. Fantastic! Thank you for the great video!
Soo simple but sooooo genius.
I use something similar with a different grit on each face. good for sanding and many uses on table saw, as you demonstrated so well. I like cheap solutions.
this is a great idea
Great! I especially like the use at the miter saw and the router. Thanks!
Thanks for sharing.
What a great idea. Simple.
Great tip thanks for sharing
Love your video, so practical and useful
You give the best tips. Thx.
Now, that was very very good! I've made many push blocks and I've found when you take the time to make safety sticks, pushblocks it's well worth your time and fingers.!
another elegant idea! thanks!
thanks for another Inspired short 👌
Love this tip!!!
Holy crap! What a simple but great idea.
Great idea!
Genius! The perfect tool I didn’t know about!
Great tip! One of the best I've ever seen in a RUclips video.
Thanks!
Thank you 😊
Shop safety tool and tips! Thanks 😊
Great tip.
I have found the simplest things are often the ones we use the most. Thanks for the video.
Excellent Bro.
Thanks a bunch for all the tips, dude! 😊
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
What a fantastic idea. I’ll be making one, or maybe a few, very soon. Thanks for posting this tip. 👍
Thanks Dude
Very cool tip - love your channel.
I like it! Making one now
I'm convinced!
Damn great solution. Thanks for sharing!
Brilliant, no longer a need for a fancy jig to square up your wood.
Awesome!
Must make!
The cheap woodworking tool I can use with every expensive woodworking tool.
You are a genius!
You always have the best tips and tricks. gonna whip up a couple of these as soon as I come across the spray adhesive i buried somewhere during my move haha
Great one!
Where’s the affiliate link? This is RUclips. Come on! 😂
Genius!
Imagine my surprise when I realized that I wasn’t subscribed to your consistently outstanding videos! That’s been resolved now. Great video, brilliant idea! Thanks!
Hey, that's a nice tip.
thanks
Killer idea!
Good video
I also use mine for sanding😊
Sweet!
When being used as a pushstick, you don't worry it might dull your blade ? 🤔
😎👍☘️🍺
Cool
I like this idea very much, thank you. I did not see how you attached the edge, do you bend it around from the face and then cut it ?
Great tip. Cheap tool, Yes. Cannot live without, Well maybe. 🙂🙂
StupidLy simple. Great stuff. I’ll try a few myself. Thank you!
Seems really useful for if you can't get your track in line with your band saw blade.... Like a friend of mine has 🙄
Great tip! (just dropping a comment). Hope all is well on the left coast.
I would be so much more productive in my garage if you were standing in the corner unleashing a barrage of tips and methods to follow ! 😁
I guess Skateboard Grip tape would work too..since its pre-adhesive.. and it comes in different colors.. or CLEAR griptape as well.
You’re kind of a genius.
Great tip thanks.
What grit paper have you found to be the best for these blocks?
Ken Myerscough - Southport UK.
Probably worth investing in a box of sandpaper cut off rolls from Klingsphor.. I have more sandpaper from them than I'll ever use in my lifetime..
clever use of MDF scrap (aka trash!)
Is it really much safer? Applying pressure with your hands on this block vs on the workpiece, it only adds 3/4" extra space between your hands and the bit.
What is the “square” product you’re using? Is it a type of speed square?
Video mark 01:44 That is a detailed tattoo of Pres. Abraham Lincoln.
it's slices it dices it makes Julianne fries.. I was running the table saw the other day and kept thinking I was going to slice my finger
Purple sandpaper?
Jodi another great tip and video. One question about your miter station (@about 2 min marker you showed cutting a piece). Is the miter platform height offset lower than the table or is it just an illusion? I have normally seen miter stations built with the height aligned to the saw. But if you have offset it to be higher there must be some reason. Hence asking. TIA & always looking for your "Inspirational" videos.
@ashokmoghe8035 Hopefully I read your question right, but the top of the miter saw table is set to match the height of the counter. Might be optical illusion afterall!
And here I am buying Grr-rippers and a 10 million dollar stick
👏👏👏
1:30 will running sandpaper through the blade affect its sharpness?
I wouldn't think so. Id imagine dense lumber or even mdf itself, with all that glue, is probably worse on your blade... but I guess you could only know for sure with a quantifiable test.
Things you didnt know you need.
👍🏼🍻😎
💪🏻👊🏻👍🏻✌🏻❤️🇩🇪
