I've had my 2i2 for a couple years and suddenly today the static would not go away no matter what I did. Tried re plugging, restarting, reinstalling drivers. No dice. Worked fine on another PC. But this absolutely fixed my issue, thank you!
This is EXACTLY my problem. I actually ended up buying a new interface box. thinking my 1st interface box was just breaking. And Yes, I have Windows 10, both my Behringer and Focusrite did the same distortions after a while of being in use.
Just found a fix for another issue with Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (2nd gen), which may apply to the entire Scarlett line. I was getting heavy DISTORTION and the sound was coming JUST from LEFT channel with ONLY a few Windows 10 programs, particularly Whatsapp, Viber, some but not all mp3 files played from Google Drive. This issue DID NOT affect youtube, or VLC media player, or any DAW (Ableton, Cakewalk), or any other program for that matter. Unplugging, rebooting or updating Focusrite drivers did not help. The solution happened to be found by W10 troubleshooting (of all things?!): it said that the default sample rate was not set, go figure?! Anyway, easy fix! Either launch W10 audio troubleshooting from sound parameters, or manually set the default sample rate in Windows driver settings (I set it to the same as Focusrite ASIO driver 44.1 kHz 24 bit). Please upvote and perhaps pin this message, as people may be looking for it, and this video is the first link you find by searching "Focusrite distortion", and I have not posted my fix anywhere else.
@@BradyJacquin check how many channels are in Windows audio settings - it should be stereo two channels. I had a case when audio was clear and coming only from the Left channel because somehow Windows was set to 8 channel audio. Switching to stereo fixed it.
As of now, its insane that plugging my Scarlet Solo 3rd gen from a 3.0 USB to a 2.0 USB seemed to fix ALL of my problems. I was having severe delay with my input, with every 20 seconds or so having severe distortion. as if the PC is trying to "catch up" with the delay. Thanks for this.
I know this is old, but I had a problem like this with my first gen 2i4. When I would power on my PC I would have that weird choppy distorted robot voice. Usually a reboot would fix it, or unplug and replug always worked. Tried everything to fix it so I didn't have to keep reaching back and unplugging cables. Nothing made it go away. Then I found someone who had said to turn off Fast Start up in Windows. It's under the "Choose what the power buttons do" power settings in Control Panel. I unchecked Fast Startup, rebooted, and never had a problem again. The reason I am leaving this comment now is because that was a few years ago. I factory reset my PC a few days ago and the dreaded mic issue came back and I totally forgot about the Fast Startup thing. I knew there was something I did in power options, but I couldn't remember what it was. I just spent an hour searching forums and found it again. This is on a FIRST gen 2i4. Don't know if this will help anyone else, but I thought I'd go ahead and leave a comment about it. Because yet again, it fixed my problem. Mic is working fine now.
You know what my problem came down to? Lack of power on my USB bus. I was battling with my Scarlett crashing, glitching out, etc, for a few months. It started happening suddenly, so I thought the hardware must be bad. I bought a new device, sold my old one, and an hour after the guy left my driveway, the new Scarlett did the exact same thing. My breakthrough came when I plugged headphones in with a really long cable to my closet so I could record a vocalist. As soon as I turned up the volume, the Scarlett went totally nuts. It would disconnect, reconnect, disconnect, reconnect. I unplugged the headphones and it immediately got better. The Scarlett must have been having a difficult time powering the headphones at that volume, with a 25 foot cable. But the problem continued to crop up, never fully going away. I kept troubleshooting down the path of power. I had something plugged into each USB port along the top of my computer case. I unplugged them all, found the USB 3.0 port, and plugged the Scarlett into that. I plugged the other devices into ports in the back of my PC. I think it's good now. I haven't had it glitch out since I did that. I also had something similar happen like this to my son's computer. I had to get a USB hub with a separate power supply so it could supply enough power to each device plugged into.
Adding another possible fix as this couldn't fix my issue, which was the second distortion example after accidentally changing the sample rate once while OBS was open. For me the only thing that worked was: Un-install the Focusrite USB Program. Go into Programs > Focusrite Folder and delete it. (This is pretty important as it doesn't uninstall the notifier program.) Go into Device Manager with the Focusrite still connected, uninstall both the USB device and audio device. Restart PC, disconnect Scarlett 2i2. Fresh install the drivers and USB program from Focusrite. Reconnect 2i2. Go into sound settings > sound > input device properties > additional device properties > Advanced tab (make sure it isn't set to 8 channel, as TroubleChute says above.) I hope someone tearing their hair out finds your video as it did help me and I hope this comment helps someone!
Thanks for this detailed reply. I'm currently going through your steps right now (I have the 3rd Gen 2i2 and every so often an OBS Recordings audio has the "cell phone" distortion issue. I've uninstalled everything and I'm on your Device Manager step - but nothing in the Device Manager shows anything Focusrite related, even with everything still plugged in. I'm going to proceed through the rest of your steps now, and I won't know for certain if the issue is fixed (as it's happening irregularly, every so often I'll review a recording and bam - distorted audio and entire recording is ruined).
I also have another fix for when your mic is robotic/making a clicking noise. This typically happens to me after playing csgo, but it may and has occurred in other games, however mine has not done it in a long time. To fix it: - Open Task Manager - Go to details - Find "audiodg.exe" - Right click it and set priority to high - Set affinity to CPU 0 and CPU 1 only. This should fix your mic for the time being. It can be frustrating as this can seemingly be randomly undone, as well as this not being a one-time fix. Hope this helps!
I have something to add to this, the main problem with this solution is that the microphone itself is getting really sensitive what i mean is, you can hear even normal breathing. maybe someone can help me
I have a focusrite 2i2 and yeah, this happens to me all the time. I usually unplug/replug. but it's gotten so frustrating. I'm glad I found this! Very helpful.
Thanks for sharing this bat file fix suggestion. I've been experiencing this issue for a while and definitely frustrated by having to re-plug the DAC. When you mentioned the USB2.0 statement it clicked. So I had this connected to a docking station through USB-C 3.0 and the USB ports are 3.0. Now I've switched to a direct USB port for the notebook. I'll continue testing with this work-around. Hopefully I won't need to unplug and plug-in the DAC. If all fails, I'll try out the bat file. This is a bummer having a DAC and firmware/drivers/WindowsOS not working as expected. Again thanks for providing more insight on this issue.
Thank you for this Batch fix. This issue has been occurring while I am streaming on twitch. Unplugging my Focusrite causes games and programs to crash. Running the Batch file completes the reset without any conflict with my software.
I've got a Focusrite Saffire PRO 24 and was having the exact same issues. Restarting was becoming a major hassle and unplugging then replugging the mic didn't work for me. However, this fix you provided worked perfectly! I didn't realize there was a file to download, I just typed what you had in notepad and saved it as a .bat then ran as admin. Worked perfectly! Thank you so much for your help (even now in 2020) as I needed the extra inputs but was worried I'd have to go back to my Focusrite Saffire 6 USB. Cheers!!!!
Possible solution: Device Manager - Universal Serial Bus Controllers - USB Root Hub(s) - Power Management - Don't allow computer to turn off device in order to save power.
HERES WHAT WORKED FOR ME: i went through tons of videos and it was still robtic so i decided to go download the drivers for my specific focusrite and installed them then it restarted my pc and it worked! try this to see if it works for you too, sometimes your just missing the drivers entirely!
So I have my gen 3 for a year plus now, I had this issue until I switched to Asio, originally I switched because there was high latency from my mic and from my piano when I configured it with Ableton (without any processing it was 200-300ms). So I switched to SARS audio and I don't have any latency and I didn't get any complains about the mic after long sessions of gaming. I use SARS audio as my Asio driver because I'm doing some shenanigans, but if you switch to Asio from the window's crappy driver (that includes all the banana , or vac audio) , you shouldn't get any issues.
I dont know what exectly helped me but after i did everything said in this video plugged my Focusrite in one of my DAC optimized USB ports my mates said the problem was gone, even when I started CS:GO, the game where I allways had these problems, there were no broken audio. I have a Gigabyte mainboard where the Port is label as 3.0 DAC-UP but different companies lable it in different ways those were the labels I found in a thread explaining what these DAC ports are: MSI: USB Audio Power Gigabyte: USB DAC-Up Asus: TrueVolt USB
absolute legend mate, i have a behringer UMC 204HD and i use my phone as a webcam using droidcam on OBS so there were a zillion of possible places where shit could be going wrong, i thought maybe there were interferences or something. you did it
Not only Focusrite, but also Behringer interfaces show the same issue. And what's even worse is the fact that I can only hear these distortions after recording the audios for my podcasts (when I'm listening to the audio coming out from the interface while I'm recording, the sound is always fine! This is so freaking annoying! I've lost two entire recorded podcasts because of this robotic distortion and Idk what to do)
Thanks finally a good description of the problems I have experienced. As for the choppy audio I now simply re-install the FocusRite driver. Saves hours of messing around. Often the FocusRite dashboard won't even come up..
Thanks for the video. I had to stop using my scarlett solo because of the audio distortion issue. I keep checking back every few months to see if the drivers finally fix it, but it seems they haven't still. So I ended up going with another interface. I bought and now use the mackie onyx artist 1-2 and it's been rock solid since I got it (march 2018). Not a single instance of audio distortion and it's built like a tank. Check it out.
Go to windows power settings and make your pc the least eco-friendly you can so it won't do much power saving and your cpu will run at max speed all the time. It fixed most of the drop-outs for my focusrite. It was the only solution that worked for me.
None of them worked for me. But! Updated my Asio4All app from 2.13 to the latest 2.15 (plugged off my Focusrite first!), then plugged on again and PERFECT now.
FOR Mac OSX Its actually Audition remap! Channel Mapping & Audio Hardware, make sure your focusrite setup is the same for left and right side, i.e USB Input 1 for both! not usb 1 for left and 2 for right - this will eliminate
Great video. Thank god it's not me. Driving me nuts, I livestream on my gaming channel and almost like clockwork after four hours the robot voice kicks in. Last time it happened, I re-plugged it in and caused my OS to bluescreen. GOing to get a different preamp, this is ridiculous.
same for me. its so annoying especially when you unplugged it and it goes bluescreen. im also streaming and while im in game, the crackling sound always suddenly came in. its driving me nuts
what fixed the issue for me, was installing the driver(Focusrite Control) again but I didn't select "Full installation", but I selected "Focusrite Control + USB driver" (because I use USB). First time I guessed if i just hit "Full installation" it will get everything. But I guess, it didn't get everything or it got more and messed something up. I don't know the science, but that fixed it for me. Installing the drivers right way.
even without running a DAW (just playing live over a You Tube backing track with Pod Farm), the audio crashes, requiring a restart. Complete rubbish product.
So I have both the Scarlett solo 2nd gen and the Scarlett 2i2 2nd gen, and both have mic distortion usually only in my Discord calls after a few hours or after a casual ear raping competition between my toxic friend group on high sensativity. While I realise that's unhealthy for the boxes the issues started long before these elegant encounters with my friends. So far turning the phantom power on and off then recalling is my only legitimate solution. So I just want to ask. Why haven't Focusrite, one of the most branded and highly recommend for starters audio interfaces fixed this simple dilemma that so far plagues all their products? On another note, does this happen to all interfaces or just specific ones depending on the release of them and their compatability with Windows 10?
Thanks for this. But there should be no matters with plug/unplugging the Scarlett usb if using your PC for other non-audio matters. Pro audio techs do not recommend, or less don't include the Focusrite as an audio interface, for this reason. Due to the known hardware conflict issues with Windows/Microsoft drivers (Rookie mistake) Which has been my issue. Forever dealing with pops, cracks, lagging, clips etc. including LatencyMon 'real time' errors. Since, switching to a universal interface like the PreSonus.
there is another way to prevent this, once the robot noise starts you go to the volume icon, right click and select spacial sound, then click on deactivated and boom no more crushing
Anybody that has a focusrite and using discord.. Goto voice and settings - switch from push to talk and goto "voice activity" uncheck "automatically determine input sensitivity" and take the bar all the way down. As far left as it can go. Now scroll down.. You can keep OpenH264 checked. Thats for video. Uncheck echo cancellation. Uncheck automatic gain control. You can leave noise suppression turned on. Keep scrolling down until you see "audio subsystem" put it on EXPERIMENTAL. close discord.. Dont open it back up yet. Goto open sound settings. Troubleshoot your microphone to make sure its at default sample rate. If it doesnt say fixed on the troubleshoot. You were already at default sample rate. open discord and test out your mic playback. Thats what worked for me.
I wish they'd fix the scarlet solo drivers. I accidentally found out that having it just using windows drivers, you do not have this issue at all. I don't fully see this as an alternative since I lose access to some of the controls. If windows can run things by itself, it just proves to me that focusrite drivers are broken (and they don't seem to care)
Ive been using a 2nd gen for about a year now and the problems only started after changing out my drivers which was around a month or 2 ago. Might be the issue there.
Really dumb solution to my problem was that on my ATH-M50X headphones, I had the cable loose and it made my sound all distorted, tightened it and we are good.
Using asio4all, did the unchecking power saving bit, then put the the sample rate at 48000 then in the ASIO panel I raised the buffer from 512 (which was giving me weird crackling sounds) to 832 where it now sounds real crisp. That worked for me. Try that out. Hope it helps. I really wished the focusrite driver worked but it doesnt work for me no matter what I do.
I’m just here because my solo that I just bought is giving me this weird alien phaser sound when playing my guitar. I’m not using anything else, no effects or anything. Just my guitar plugged directly into the scarlett. Any idea how to fix this?
I’m writing this on 12/13/22. I’ve had the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 for roughly than 7 years and it started giving me this issue recently. Typically, I’ll boot up my computer (windows 10), open iTunes, start playing audio, and within one minute the sound briefly stops. After 15 seconds or so, it begins playing again but either sounds really grainy/robotic or the latency is absolutely terrible. I’ll click to another point in the song, but the audio won’t catch up for about 1.5 seconds. On RUclips, the video will play for roughly 15 seconds before the video stops to buffer (it isn’t a signal issue - my internet connection is very strong) and, if it does eventually start playing again, the video and audio are very glitchy or grainy. I’ve tried reinstalling drivers, changing sample rate and bit depth, disabling all sound enhancements, buying a new focusrite sound card, resetting my PC, and even completely reformatted my PC to factory settings. Nothing has worked. HOWEVER, I just connected Bluetooth headphones to my computer and haven’t had a since issue since, which leads me to believe this is a focusrite issue. I’m tempted to buy a different sound card to see if that fixes the issue because I have studio monitors that I would like to use again. I figured I’d share my experience in case anyone reading this is going through the same issue. So annoying.
i believe it is down to the buffer size/sample rate. keep playing with those settings. this is a budget priced audio interface, you're getting a ton of tech for like 200 bucks.
In it's Windows drivers, yes. People who use the same device giving issues on Windows on a Mac report no issues, even if it's the same box. It's just down to incompatibility and lack of ugprades. I assume it worked at some stage, and then Windows released updates... And Focusrite didn't bother to update it, or didn't notice the issue.
@@TroubleChute I think that's exactly what it is. I've had this device for almost a decade now, and it has worked PERFECTLY in windows XP and windows 7. It has to do with windows 10 and some asio driver conflict happening (at least from my experience). Also, in the Focusrite page it states that : 1)"Saffire firewire range (Pro 14, Pro 24, Pro 24 DSP, Pro 26, Pro 40, LS 56) Works with Windows 10 1903? No" 2)"Saffire FireWire interfaces are no longer under development support, therefore we recommend that users do not upgrade Windows OS beyond Windows 10 build 1809." So it basically says that they don't longer bother fixing the issues that A LOT of their firewire devices have with windows 10 (enter newer version than 1809). I've had this issue for quite some time, whenever I open an app that "looks" for a microphone (discord etc.), if I have the Focusrite input by default on windows and discord, it just crashes and changes my input and output sample rate to 96kHz, making the pc non usable with only solution to restart the pc and manually change the sample rate in windows control panel. I have to restart, close discord that pops up on startup, change sample rate on input and output, then log in to discord and go on a channel, open a game and play. Then, it'll work with no problems and conflicts. For hours. Basically this is my only fix that lasts, until I close the pc for the night and then the next day, watch youtube, open discord and go through the same bug and same steps. If I use a plug in (jack) microphone directly to the pc (motherboard) and set it as the input on windows control panel and discord, and then connect to a channel, it changes the playback sample rate to 96kHz (input still on 44.1kHz as it's not the Focusrite sound card) , thus I have to restart the pc nonetheless. If I playback audio for hours, no problem occurs. The minute I open an app that has "mic" privileges, even if my mic is not the Focusrite input, it causes d-sync, going from 44.1kHz to 96kHz. If I restart the pc and do the above steps, microphone works, playback works, discord, youtube, etc, all work, even at the same time, no crash, nada. I can even video record my games + game audio + discord audio. Until I close the pc, go to bed, and fire it up the next day, only to find that the same bug occurs. The only thing left to try is to connect a jack microphone AND some headphones directly to the motherboard, which I'm sure won't cause any problems since I've tried already with the microphone and even though it crashed the playback (which was the focusrite, changed it from 44.1kHz to 96kHz) , the input was still 44.1kHz (the onboard sound card) and even though I couldn't hear my voice, I could see the input in discord and in control panel. So, in my case, it's some kind of conflict occuring between windows asio driver and focusrite driver. And it happens only whenever I try to use the mic. Restart solves it, as if whenever I restart and change the settings, focusrite just stays on top(?!?) driver wise(!?!?). For now. Still though, very frustrating to know that my device isn't properly supported by the company that MADE it.
Recently I've been getting similar issues on my Focusrite 2i2 1ST GEN, now it may just be because it's old but I found out on some older Focusrite interfaces there are ground looping issues if you have studio monitors like me, actually since i got studio monitors the distorted audio happens more frequently, i know its not the monitors as I've tested them on a different system and work fine.
Thank you so much for sharing this. 👍 I use a good condenser microphone and a Focusrite Scarlett Solo + network cable directly plugged in to my laptop to avoid impedance. When I connect a remote session at my studio it works good (sometimes I get some strange fan noises), but when I try to record using at Adobe Audition I get like a fan noise or the recording looks like I'm out of signal. Restarting the Laptop or reduce the sample rate doesn't work. Do you have any idea about how to solve this? Thanks in advance.
@@mrojhatozsoy Hi there. Yes. In my case there was a malfunction and my equipment was replaced. Now having everything updated it works fine. Of course, we have to check any updates frequently. My advice: try to report the situation directly to your retailer/brand directly to see if they can help.
After I run this file I have no sound at all, unable to open preferences of the project and unable to record (literally, it just doesn't record at all). You now what might be the problem? I'm using Mixcraft 8. And btw my audio is broken all the time.
damn yo, i changed to 88.2 and that worked for me. is that what you did? I was 44.1 and have had the interface about a week or two before the sound became choppy while watching youtube videos.
@@nonplus1027 I was on 48 and I went down to 44. It's been fine since then. Tho discord has issues when talking through mic but while streaming it's fine. Maybe it's just a discord issue.
I have the same issue using a zoom h4n pro on my dell g3 laptop. The audio will randomly start robotic distortion while playing or recording anything through it. I tried capturing this by recording with Windows Game Capture but the distorted audio doesn't seem to come through in the recording. When it happens, what I generally do is either mute the audio in the software I'm using or simply opening the preferences (in Reaper) which temporarily disables audio output, then closing the preferences window causes the audio to go back to normal. Have tried several different ASIO drivers but the issue persists. When I plug the same device into my desktop PC the issue does not appear to happen, so my guess is there is an issue with USB power on the laptop or something, as I have also had a USB MIDI keyboard randomly drop out on the same machine.
In my case, I found that the problem was that Windows didn't like that I had my Yamaha E463 keyboard plugged into a USB port on the computer, too. The E463 has an inbuilt audio interface. It appears on Windows as an audio output device. You can watch movies with the sound coming out of the keyboard's speakers, and so on. Once I unplugged the keyboard from the computer's USB port and only had my Scarlett 4i4 (3rd Gen) connected as the only USB audio interface, my audio problem disappeared. No more audio glitches or audio crashes. It would appear that Windows doesn't like to see two USB audio interfaces connected at the same time.
Guys if you’re sounding like crap on mic with scarlet 2i2 in pro tools increase your cache size and buffer size to maximum in playback engine and it will fix your problem. Thank God!!!
I noticed that this only happens on discord and games but not in any daw. so how I fixed it: when im not producing, I open up Audacity and select direkt monitoring with the input beein my soundcard and the autput beeing a virtual audio cable i downloaded. then I use the virtual cable as input on discord or games
Bat file works. But within 60 seconds, the same problem happens again and again. Focusrite Scarlett 18i20, 1st Gen, using the newest driver. Please help? This only pertains to Zoom lesson (my students complained all night about me going robotic"... wasn't an issue til the Zoom update happened.
Over the last month, ive experienced two different units (2i4 and an 18i8) both starting to randomly go into low bit robot mode, randomly. These devices are installed on two separate PCs. Ive not changed anything about their settings since installed for years.
It seems like a problem with the power supply on the focusrite itself. I use AT2035 with the Scarlet Solo 2nd gen, I just saw on the forums that you might need a phantom power supply. So I'll grab one and see if it resolves the issue.
I would say phantom power could be an issue, but I've got a preamplifier for my mic, and still have issues... Im sure it's got to do with the drivers and windows. Haven't had the time or ability to check if the issue is the same on Mac or Linux...
If you use discord, go to Voice & Video settings. Then scroll down until you see "AUDIO SUBSYSTEM" it should be on standard, switch it to Legacy. Ever since I applied this, the problem hasn't come back. No problem for 8 hrs + think this fixed it.
Bought the Neewer 1-Channel 48V Phantom Power Supply. So far seems no problems after 6 hours+ of testing the mic. I recorded my voice once every hour using shadowplay, because if I use audacity it seems to not catch the robotic voice issue. So maybe this was the issue. People were talking about how bad the built in phantom power was on the scarlett. I'll keep you updated on any issues that may occur.
The issue was fixed when I installed an older driver. (beta-3.2.2-292). Every time I try out the the newer drivers (version 4+) in hope that they fixed it, I get the robotic voice.
@@PxEclipse ooo thank you for this link I am not sure what it is with the most recent driver on there site but it even hangs installing on win 10. and if I just reboot anyways it will work. but I would randomly get the robot distortion here and there. the crazy thing is this driver some how increases mic volume or the newer ones just have an issue with lowering it. hoping this fixes the random issues
Thanks to you after many forums I solved the problem of audio popping! But with this driver, I could use a focusrite Control Panel? I'd like to be able to continue using the separate outputs and inputs with the various Instruments and pads in insert
I get the same issues with my H4n Pro with my guitar plugged in as an audio interface. Generally opening properties and going to the audio device page, it resets the audio, since it does not output audio while on that page. It can happen after a few minutes or an hour or so.
I am going nuts over this! I have the 18i20 and this keeps happening to me...I have spent hours trying to figure out why this is happening. I built my Studio PC and everything is top notch. I paid $500 for this thing and I keep getting noise. AAAARrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhh! I will try your bat file and see if that helps. Thanks!
I'm still having issues :/ My Dt990 Pro headphones give a distorted noise after a while of using them and I have to replug the audio interface everytime and it's extremely annoying..
Everyone I connect my cables all the way in it sound far and static but when I leave them about halfway in it sounds good . Does anyone else have this problem ?
everytime i play sound from my computer, i hear static noise along with it. doesnt matter if im watching youtube, listening to music or whatever. when i press pause, it also stops. i have my mic and headphones plugged into my 3rd gen scarlett solo audio interface, please help!! :(
Please HelP!! i have a focusrite scarlett solo and i’m experiencing problems where the bass, or any kind of drums in FL Studio is heavily distorted to the point where i can barely hear it with headphones plugged in. i’ve messed with settings regarding sample rates and 1 and 2 channel settings. is my problem the scarlett solo since nothing has worked ?
Same for me. I've tried to fix it but no luck. And everyone seems to have the same issues. No attempt from Focusrite to make things better. I bought the Scarlett because it was so popular and I assumed it must be a smart, reliable choice. Turns out I was wrong.
i can only hear audio if i have my headphones plugged into the Focusrite 2i2 3rd Gen in my DAW Cakewalk. I wanted to hear it come out of my PC speakers. My speakers are plugged into the back of my PC through the motherboard. I could do it with my old M Audio Fast Track USB
This makes no sense, Windows should have nothing to do with it. The Scarlett takes place AS the Audio driver. As long as the USB port is functioning absolutely no setting in windows should affect this. It’s obvious Focusrite only cares about Mac users. It’s pretty disgusting
Sorry! I completely forgot about linking the .bat file!

THANK YOU, I just got a new desk, and my cord is too short to reach the old usb port. I buy u beer if u in WA
@iancole458 the distortions still happen every now and then, but just unplugging and plugging it back in fixes it it again.
if i only have usb 3?
This fixed my buddies focusrite issues, by lowering the sample rate.
No driver updated needed.
THANK YOU!!
Now my ears don't bleed on teamspeak.
@@fuscazo5399 STILL HAVING THIS PROBLEM YEAR LATER
Adding another possible fix as this couldn't fix my issue, which was the second distortion example after accidentally changing the sample rate once while OBS was open. For me the only thing that worked was:
Un-install the Focusrite USB Program.
Go into Programs > Focusrite Folder and delete it. (This is pretty important as it doesn't uninstall the notifier program.)
Go into Device Manager with the Focusrite still connected, uninstall both the USB device and audio device.
Restart PC, disconnect Scarlett 2i2.
Fresh install the drivers and USB program from Focusrite.
Reconnect 2i2.
Go into sound settings > sound > input device properties > additional device properties > Advanced tab (make sure it isn't set to 8 channel, as TroubleChute says above.)
I hope someone tearing their hair out finds your video as it did help me and I hope this comment helps someone!
I'm going to proceed through the rest of your steps now, and I won't know for certain if the issue is fixed (as it's happening irregularly, every so often I'll review a recording and bam - distorted audio and entire recording is ruined).
doesn't work for me sadly
I also have another fix for when your mic is robotic/making a clicking noise. This typically happens to me after playing csgo, but it may and has occurred in other games, however mine has not done it in a long time. To fix it:
- Open Task Manager
- Go to details
- Find "audiodg.exe"
- Right click it and set priority to high
- Set affinity to CPU 0 and CPU 1 only.
Do you fix the problem?
Again thanks for providing more insight on this issue.
this explains everything, im so pissed that this hasnt been fixed after 3 years and a whole new gen of product.
thank you for your video.
did you manage to fix it? When I playback my audio it sounds good but in discord the mic cuts out badly
@@shaduzi2372 for discord, changing the Audio Subsystem to Legacy might help
Cheers!!!!
This happens every three hours without fail. I can time it, Focusrite tech support blames widows. Widows blames focus.
Its create.
Possible solution:
Device Manager - Universal Serial Bus Controllers - USB Root Hub(s) - Power Management - Don't allow computer to turn off device in order to save power.
This was probably the most useful video on this topic I’ve found so far!
HERES WHAT WORKED FOR ME: i went through tons of videos and it was still robtic so i decided to go download the drivers for my specific focusrite and installed them then it restarted my pc and it worked! try this to see if it works for you too, sometimes your just missing the drivers entirely!
Having the problem now over 2 years. Its soo annoying.
Thank you for the BAT file, great temp solution.
you too?
"f you're using a Focusrite Scarlette Solo Gen 1 or Gen 2," OR Gen 3....
gen 3 wasnt a thing when the video was released mate :)
OMG IT WORK I JUST change my sample rate to 48000 then changed my buffer size to 512 thank you so much
I dont know what exectly helped me but after i did everything said in this video plugged my Focusrite in one of my DAC optimized USB ports my mates said the problem was gone, even when I started CS:GO, the game where I allways had these problems, there were no broken audio. I have a Gigabyte mainboard where the Port is label as 3.0 DAC-UP but different companies lable it in different ways those were the labels I found in a thread explaining what these DAC ports are:
MSI: USB Audio Power
Gigabyte: USB DAC-Up
Asus: TrueVolt USB
I always turn off my Focusrite and back on, but that only fixes it for another 30-60 minutes. Thank you !
absolute legend mate, i have a behringer UMC 204HD and i use my phone as a webcam using droidcam on OBS so there were a zillion of possible places where shit could be going wrong, i thought maybe there were interferences or something.
you did it
POV; Your watching this video while the guy sounds like a Broken Robot
Not only Focusrite, but also Behringer interfaces show the same issue. And what's even worse is the fact that I can only hear these distortions after recording the audios for my podcasts (when I'm listening to the audio coming out from the interface while I'm recording, the sound is always fine! This is so freaking annoying! I've lost two entire recorded podcasts because of this robotic distortion and Idk what to do)
Thank you for this! Have been having this issue for ages now, glad you've found a fix for it!
For me the solution was deleting focusrite control and driver
This!
thank you so much I have been trying to fix this for ages
Go to windows power settings and make your pc the least eco-friendly you can so it won't do much power saving and your cpu will run at max speed all the time. It fixed most of the drop-outs for my focusrite. It was the only solution that worked for me.
None of them worked for me. But! Updated my Asio4All app from 2.13 to the latest 2.15 (plugged off my Focusrite first!), then plugged on again and PERFECT now.
Thank you so much for this vid. I tried it with my scarlett solo 3rd gen and it worked!!!
FOR Mac OSX Its actually Audition remap! Channel Mapping & Audio Hardware, make sure your focusrite setup is the same for left and right side, i.e USB Input 1 for both! not usb 1 for left and 2 for right - this will eliminate
You're a heavenly man. Thank you, don't ever change.
Thank YOU! Had netflix stuttering with 2i4 and increasing the buffer solved the problem.
even without running a DAW (just playing live over a You Tube backing track with Pod Farm), the audio crashes, requiring a restart.
Since, switching to a universal interface like the PreSonus.
there is another way to prevent this, once the robot noise starts you go to the volume icon, right click and select spacial sound, then click on deactivated and boom no more crushing
i never buy anything from focusrite again. i had a 50 euros random audio interface and it work better no problem ever.
If windows can run things by itself, it just proves to me that focusrite drivers are broken (and they don't seem to care)
how ironic is it that my audio freaked out and did the issue while watching this video
I almost gave up, yours was the 9th video lol. I had my phone close by and my fan on. That was the problem lol newbie recorder
I have the exact same problem and setup. Have you been able to figure it out? I suspect there's any kind of driver conflict
i believe it is down to the buffer size/sample rate. keep playing with those settings. this is a budget priced audio interface, you're getting a ton of tech for like 200 bucks.
Also, in the Focusrite page it states that :
1)"Saffire firewire range (Pro 14, Pro 24, Pro 24 DSP, Pro 26, Pro 40, LS 56)
Works with Windows 10 1903? No"
2)"Saffire FireWire interfaces are no longer under development support, therefore we recommend that users do not upgrade Windows OS beyond Windows 10 build 1809."
So it basically says that they don't longer bother fixing the issues that A LOT of their firewire devices have with windows 10 (enter newer version than 1809).
@@antoniskoutras5231 Nope, I'm on mac and it's happening to me.
Thank you so much for this video. Finally solved my issue. Have you found another product that is relatively cheap that doesn't have this issue?

Thank you so much for sharing this. 👍 I use a good condenser microphone and a Focusrite Scarlett Solo + network cable directly plugged in to my laptop to avoid impedance. When I connect a remote session at my studio it works good (sometimes I get some strange fan noises), but when I try to record using at Adobe Audition I get like a fan noise or the recording looks like I'm out of signal. Restarting the Laptop or reduce the sample rate doesn't work. Do you have any idea about how to solve this? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the information! such annoying problemxd

Does this work as a fix for Mac as well?
It's been 3 days without me resetting the scarlett. It's safe to say the problem is solved, hope this worked for you.
Dr Yikes I actually did that a week ago and while it fixed it for a while, it definitely wasn’t permanent.
Me too same problem with Scarlett 6i6 with Windows 10, i5 9600k unlocked processor.
Im using a behringer umc HD204 with a at2035 microphone would this still help even though it's a different audio interface
I'm having the same issues on a macbook pro, is there any way to fix it from that? Thanks!
The issue was fixed when I installed an older driver. (beta-3.2.2-292).
Every time I try out the the newer drivers (version 4+) in hope that they fixed it, I get the robotic voice.

Same for me. I've tried to fix it but no luck. And everyone seems to have the same issues. No attempt from Focusrite to make things better. I bought the Scarlett because it was so popular and I assumed it must be a smart, reliable choice. Turns out I was wrong.
@@ShinMadero i think its more of a windows problem, but yeah it sucks.
i can only hear audio if i have my headphones plugged into the Focusrite 2i2 3rd Gen in my DAW Cakewalk. I wanted to hear it come out of my PC speakers. My speakers are plugged into the back of my PC through the motherboard. I could do it with my old M Audio Fast Track USB
Thank you for making this video.
I keep getting distorzion while recording. Even when lowering the gain. Does this file fix this issue?
Worked like a charm. Ty.
This makes no sense, Windows should have nothing to do with it. The Scarlett takes place AS the Audio driver. As long as the USB port is functioning absolutely no setting in windows should affect this. It’s obvious Focusrite only cares about Mac users. It’s pretty disgusting
Still a problem. I have to pause and restart playback, or turn interface on and off (Scarlett 18i8 Gen 2)
Over it...
