I'm having the time of my life, but I do have criticisms. - I don't love the human models and clothing options. (personal preference) - I wish that you could place markers on your minimap. - Certain things are not explicitly explained/detailed which could frustrate some players. - If you get off your mount at your ranch, it runs off on you unless you give your flute a toot. It's annoying lol. - It would be cool for them to add some kind of indicator of a rare spawn at the start of the day. Not saying where/what, just to state that there is one afoot. That's all I can think of at the present. I'm enjoying the game regardless, but I keep coming across annoyances and what-ifs. They could definitely add some more polish and features with a few patches. ✨
Nah. -models look.. plasticy and ugly -not much clothing -the dinos just outshine everything else. The onl6 thing it has going is the dinosaurs and your limited to it -there’s no good money progression in the game. I got to autumn and I was still earning barely enough to feed the small amount I had - there’s nothing else to do beyond befriending dinos. After that there’s nothing else to do to for the game. - shallow story, there’s just.. really not any interesting progression at all. - the npcs are very bland and uninteresting - there’s not really any mining, dinos don’t drop anything (etc feathers, eggs etc), no fishing or bug catching or anything - there’s no home or decoration beyond very limited items that’s just not available for most the game - the ranch is so big for no reason. There’s no way to decorate it nicely so all you really have is a few pens and a small plot for farming. - there’s cooking sure, but you never learn how to. You have to figure it out and even then it’s not amazing. I didn’t even know there was cooking and I’m almost done with the game. - it’s very bad at explaining how to progress - the only way to get decent money are from the town board, which there’s only like 4 different types. It gets super boring super quickly. - the festivals are few and far between as well as very bare bones. Honestly for the hype, not worth it.
I’m upset about the house too - that’s the first thing I did was try to enter my house and was disappointed when it didn’t happen 😅 Maybe future updates or patches will fix this
If they add it in a future update, I will be SO happy. I think it would add a lot more for players to do. I could spend HOURS just decorating my home lol
I remember game farm together was at the start of the release was only outside house but after few updates they added inside house update its was best thing they add
I enjoy meeting new dinosaurs and mostly predicting the rare(er) ones amongst the herd. Guessing what treats they like is also fun. And I might be the odd one out but I never cared for decorating, so I'm happy I don't have to go inside the house 😊
The variety of dinosaurs really gave the game an edge from other farm sims and the cute visuals doesn’t hurt. The cons in the video is also very useful for people contemplating about buying the game, great review!!
I just bought this game last night and I'm loving it so far! I bought it on steam and am using keyboard/mouse so don't have your same controller frustrations, but I definitely agree that it's a little annoying to have to dismount your dino to pick up certain items. All in all I think it's super cute and love all the dino designs and the journal! Can't wait to play more!
i would love if a game like this has a fishing mini game. I enjoyed fishing mechanics in okami, even in monster hunter stories. If you could catch and sell fish
This game is so addicting for me. I turn it on and 4-5 hours go by like nothing. Though I do agree on the housing, maybe they'll add it later on in an update or something.
I really like Paleo Pines, and I do also have some quibbles. Building/designing is one of the things I like best in these cozy game, and I was really disappointed that not only do you not build anything (besides pens), you can't even go into your house! I also dislike some of the dinosaur mechanics. I like that each dino does specific tasks, as it makes you work at getting different dinosaurs. But any dinosaur that uses its tail for its task (breaking logs, slashing bushes) take 2 to 3 times longer than any other dinosaur, and for some reason they tend to get stuck or forget what they are doing quite often. It is the only thing in the game that I frankly find quite tedious. I also think that the game does an extremely poor job of directing you and explaining things. I have had to pause the game and go online dozens of times to find info that I should have been able to find in the game. This could easily be fixed by having a Help page in the diary where you can search for into. As an early access game it is exceptional; as a full release game it needs some updates.
I think if they had a mini map and ability to pin quests, it could help a lot in guiding the player. I also tend to get lost a lot haha. And I agree about the slow dinos. Going around the map to break stones with my slow dino was painful after running around with Lucky prior to that ^^;;
Something I didn't hear you mention is that there are 38 species (30 Large, 8 Small) with about 12 color variations each, but only 14 Large Dreamstone and 9 Small Dreamstone you can get
@@TophGames Yeah, I looked it up when I realized I wasn't finding more Dreamstone. There's a guide online with the map locations and there are only 14 total Large ones spread across all 3 zones and they don't respawn. Maybe you get more through quests, but I doubt it's anywhere near the 30 Large species Real shame, since I was looking forward to having a pen with a few color variations
@@krissmartinez7048 Dang! I'm on Switch and haven't found an achievements tab, so that might be why. Thanks for the info. I was seriously considering never touching the game again because of that
Thank you for this video! Personally going to pass on it for now and hope they make a few changes with updates and maybe hope in in the future, no housing decoration and the inventory being so small are deal breakers for me, i already struggle with the inventory in games like Palia and Stardew, I'd just lose my mind going back to the chest constantly.
I've been playing this game and it was a bit confusing at first but once you get the hang of it, it's so fun! I think it's adorable and alluring, not to mention unique. I do dislike the fact you can't enter your house though.
It's such a cute game, but there are so many other games coming out soon that I think I'll pass on this one for now. Great informational video as always!
I havent played Paleo Pines yet, but I just looove the art style!! I love everything about the Dinos too. I am a little worried about getting bored honestly, because I might accidentally fall into the cycle of get home ready for Dino > get Dino > and repeat 😅 Maybe they'll add more game features though! I'd love a multiplayer option to this game, or maybe more customization for our characters and dinosaur saddles/tack.
That definitely is the worry with life sims. Some people love the repetitive grind but I can understand why it's not great for some. And I also wonder how long the game is. Since it lacks deep relationships and decorating, I don't imagine it's like an AC or Stardew that can be played for years, yknow?
Orani upgrades your personal inventory, however I agree that the necessary tools should be separate, the devs are taking suggestions like that for future updates!

My biggest problem with these games recently is to me they always make the green just blinding. Wish they could tone down the green without darkening the whole game
That's fair. I definitely think this type of game's color palette is not for everyone. I like it a lot but I do think at some points it feels washed out a bit.

I really wanted it and was ready to buy it upon release but reading reviews I just don't think it's my vibe atm, from what i've seen its in no way a bad game it just has a specific feel and gameplay about it that might not click for those looking for your usual cozy farming game. i'll prolly still nab it at some point though, the creators are from northern ireland and I gotta support it~ (i'm from NI and gosh it's rare something with so many eyes on it comes out of here, it's nice ^^)
That's totally fair and there are tons of other great cozy games to keep you busy. But I love that you and other gamers want to support devs from regions that don't get as much love in the gaming industry
Looks adorable but Idk if I'd try it out. I miss that special something that makes me want to play this game and not one of the many others with a similar concept. The most unique aspect are the dinosaurs instead of typical farm animals... but apart from that it just looks very basic. No interior design feature? GASP, that's a giant red flag for me because it is one of the most fun things to do in these kind of games. And the lack of inventory space is one of the most annoying things in any game, pretty frustrating and can kill the fun of playing a game sometimes. I’m playing on the switch and I am currently having a lot of crashing issues.. I am playing on the switch, hoping this will get patched or something as I cannot even save or go into town.. sucks
I think it's a nay for me at the moment. I love the dinosaur theme and that's what tempted me to look at this game, but i am disappointed with some things. I want a house to decorate! I love doing that in these games. Also not loving the tools taking up inventory and having to scroll through them all the time. Why are games still choosing to do that? I am currently playing fae farm, which is my absolute all time favorite game! It will be a while before I play something else. I would consider this on sale later down the line. Maybe (still a little on the fence 😅). Thanks for a great review.
I think that's the best stance. It may not be good enough now to rush and buy it but still on your radar for another time perhaps. All your points are super valid. Especially the one about scrolling through tools ^^;;
I'm a huge fan of ACNH, Critter Cove, and other life sims like that. I had high hopes but was terribly disappointed in this game. This game was simply so boring it felt unfinished. Going through the first few days of progression felt like office work, but less satisfying.
