Thank you Doctor Chavez! Recently My 9 yr old Boxer is presenting weakness in his back limbs recently. I took him today to the vet to rule out metabolic diseases because he has been presenting polyuria and polydipsia too. Blood work was normal. Polyuria and polydipsia is into the psychogenic side. He is being referred to a neurologist in Maryland. I will try to perform maneuvers tomorrow to see if something rings a bell, I am not a vet, I am a medical doctor, but I am so worried about him, that I am reading to see if its musculoskeletal or neurologic. I will take him to the neurologist though. Thank you a lot for the video.

Very thorough exam and knowledgeable video. I wonder if you are still working for a Banfield, seem lucky they would have you.
All about being said.. who else cringed really hard when a neurologic, geriatric, deep chested BOXER was flipped legs over instead of legs under.. lol only breed worse would been a Dane lol
But honestly loved the video.. just not the flip haha

Great video! Your video's are always super helpful with my studying. However I do recommend when flipping the dog from right lateral to left lateral that you do so with the animal's legs going under the body instead of over. This reduces the risk for an induced Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus, also known as GDV. This is especially common in large breed dogs, including the boxer. Thank you!

My dog seems to have some similar issues. Have done xrays for hip dysplasia and arthritis and seems to be ok there. Could you tell us what has to be done in this case? Can drugs help or does it have to be surgery?

Ok doc, so is there any type of treatment that is 95% effective that will give dogs quality of life? My 14 year old dog is in fair health but has been unable to stand up on and has gotten worse this past 2 weeks. He's at vet now wondering where we are. Or do we make a final decision to let him go now. Cautiously hopeful, please respond today, 3.23.2018

What's the diagnosis? Lumbar disc herniation?

My dog 16.5 is suffering from what I believe is neurological also. My vet thought it was weak hind leg pain, and she gave me Gabpentin. The blood work came back awesome but high white blood count so she gave me Baytril to treat the infection. Can this infection be causing my dog's issues? I am noticing wobbling, sometimes her legs are crossed, or very close together and she falls to the left side. Will the antibotic cure this? Could the infection be causing neurlogical problems? At times, shes walking and very happy and other times shes showing me these symptoms. I just saw this symptoms on Satuday and she started the medication Monday. I am going to give it a vet and see if any positive results. I don't want to see her suffer and get worse. So I am giving it a weak then going back for a neurological exam and see what is really up and their advice. Thank you, help to hear from you soon.

Absolutely. Infections can form pockets, called abcesses. Depending on the location, an abscess can put pressure on nerves, and even cause nerve damage.

What do you do for an old dog who has this? I understand that many senior dogs have a reduced tolerance for anesthetics, so, surgery can be risky for them.

How come there are so many people posting problems and yet there is no one posting solutions for these neurological problems resulting in paralysis? This is a waste.
