I’ve been polishing metal for years now and your video is very informative and bang on for us DIYers. I understand polished aluminium tarnishes and needs protection but polished steel can be cleaned after the buffing process with WD40. That stuff is a great cleaner and brings out a shine like you wouldn’t believe. I’ve also found polished steel never rusts as there are no nooks and crannies for moisture to settle in. I’ve polished all my steel tools in the workshop over the years and never had a rust problem like I did every year after cold damp winters. Thanks for your video.🇦🇺👍
Hey, I’m thinking about going all out on my hot boy civic build. Was gonna chrome polish the entire engine bay. Every single part as well as the bay itself. You think I should just polish and clean as you outlined or would a clear coat be a good idea in this use case? Thanks
Came back to watch this years later .. Loved learning this from you. Iv polished so many things since; got into restoring bmx bikes to so tons of little trick parts. Love ya brother
Love watching a young man with talent and drive, I’m 52 years old and you inspired me to restore a bike and ride again this summer,, did it for years when I was younger,, keep up the good work ....
Hey, nice video! FYI: A white pad is extra-fine, approximately equivalent to 600-grit sandpaper; gray compares to 220-grit; maroon, 150-grit; and green, 100-grit. The difference among them relates to the coarseness of grit that's impregnated in the plastic strands, not the thickness of those strands.
This channel has been so educational! I was basically given two vintage bikes. They are both very beat up and rusted out. Hopefully I can restore them with some of the techniques learned here!
Excellent presentation! I'm 67 and I have tried it all out there but you made it look so much easier with your method. I have ordered a bunch of your products, I'm in the middle of a 76 Yamaha RD400 high performance build. I do my own boring and I have a SuperFlow machine for port work, but that's easy compared to polishing parts. Thanks for sharing, much appreciated!
Man, this was one of the most informative videos I’ve ever seen on RUclips. You covered so much , had plenty of pro tips, and went over covered different scenarios that I’m sure answered a lot of peoples questions. Appreciate you and this vid so much!
after polishing aluminum, you can protect it with 'Nufinish' the once a year car polish, it gives polished aluminum a liquid metal appearance which prevents oxidation so the finish will last a long time, I haven't tried it on other metals but I have used it on aluminum and it really does work!
Unfortunately not true.... Tweekers also get addicted to polishing..seen one polish his stolen car for 3 days straight using tansmission fluid... Portland Oregon what can I say
Cam! You should do a bike and make it a “CHROME” build do this to all the metal pieces it’s not my style but if the whole bike was done like that it would be super unique and would definitely draw a crowd.
Bronson Launder everything chrome handle bars triple clamps swing arm levers pegs. Man just thinking about it done like that I would need to be placed in an art museum!
Just throwing this out there: sometimes using machines is not always a good idea. Generally I would wash the part. Then I would file down the casting marks. For the flat areas, I glue sand paper to small wooden blocks. I would start with 600 (wet, water and dish soap) and see if it removes the deepest scratches. I then work my way to 2000 grit and then finally the buffer. Something to keep in mind is, all aluminum oxidizes and it happens way faster than you might think. For example, you could be sanding on a part and come back to it in 3 hours, and you’ll have to resand back through the oxidation. You can tell when you get through, the sandpaper will feel like it’s dragging (cutting) more. And when you get your final finish, don’t put anything on it other than wax. If you spray clear coat, the aluminum will oxidate and the clear turns an ugly kind of yellow.
OK, I found the link. Please forgive my stupidity and disregard everything I said EXCEPT how great these videos are. They are OUTSTANDING. Thanks, John
One word, Satisfying! Think I'm going to buy some wheels for my Baldor, put on some tunes, and go polish some boat parts. Thanks for putting this together, great video
Major props brother! I learned more from this than any other 5 tutorials and I don't own a dirt bike anymore. Been searching for an old Honda xr 100 4 stroke to restore. Definitely a sub worthy channel
For the clear coat, or really cleaning any metal you can also soak it in acetone. Simple Green works for cleaning in most cases; but for high carbon build or paint, toss it in a appropriate sized container and let the acetone do most of the work for you... of course if you have the means to own a wet blaster, just use that; but if you do sand blasting it's critical to clean the part as much as possible before blasting it. Otherwise you contaminate the blast media... great video.
Cameron, Well done buddy, I've been polishing self taught for the best part of twenty years and getting reasonable results, after watching your video it's answered all the questions I've been wandering about but not had the answers to, now I know and also picked up another supplier for finishing products, so big thank's for that. Also the video on plating, again, I have one of those kit's but not set it up yet as been too busy being ill, pleased to say I'm loads better and will get cracking with the plating now youv'e answered all the yestions. I have a Honda XL 500, XL 600 and also an old Peugeot ex French Army bike to do, so should get plenty of use.
Cameron to ask, have you tried to plate any large item's, one of the reasons I bought the Caswell kit is because I have a massive collection of vintage two gallon petrol cans which are 12 x 10 x 6 inch's I have a custic tank to strip them and also a Soda blaster to finish them off, I would really like see how one look's like plated, I was going to chrome powder coat one but you can't get them to hot as all the joint's are soldered and experience has proved that they can fall apart. I have 1,000 of these can's along with other vintage item's and of course the bike's.
WOW this is precisely what I was looking for. NOBODY on RUclips explains how to get that "brushed" look with aluminum. My Harley Sportster has brushed aluminum parts all over it. NOW I finally know how to clean them. Cuz they're gettin crusty, and nothing really restores them properly. THANKS for this!
after buying a bike that was neglected and watching hundreds of videos on restoring, fixing , cleaning. this is by far the best out there! thank you for this content. will be watching more in the future!
Again, Cameron.... what another great job. And never let anyone tell you that you don't have patience! I was just bragging about your powder coated springs. Those turned out cool too.
First time watching, I found your video very informative. Good clear descriptions of each step as well as each product used. And that finish looks really great! So thanks for sharing. 😎😉
Just got my set of pads. A godsend, incredible. It will take a little practice on when and how much to use the flap vs aggressive scratch pad but just the easiest aluminum polishing I've ever tried. I so wish inked these pads years ago when I made a 2x5 ft wrinkled copper waterfall fountain.
I'm refurbing some antique tools, but I don't have bench grinders. I invested in an electric Makita 1/4" chuck straight-mini die grinder. After seeing your air grinder with those mini flapper sanding/scotch-brite wheels, I need to get some. Great work!
I love your work man. You always do an awsome job at everything you work on and i think your videos are crystal clear for step by step instructions. Top work brother👍
You inspired me to rebuild my motorbike. I learned a lot from you, thanks. Now I really feel that I can get the result I want. From the first to the last screw , I rebuild everything on it. Which I would love to see you build a wiring harness because it requires a lot of preparation. I'm in this process right now. I wish you health :)
Seth Clarke yes it can. However in order to keep it from Eventually metal pumpkins. You’ll need to clear coat it for long turn shine Feel free to check out our polishing page on Facebook at Tri State Wheel Polishing. God Bless!
Awesome video Cameron! Thank you soo much for putting this one out, I know myself will be referencing this throughout the winter/spring to get my CR125 lookin like a mirror!
Definitely gotta take my yz250f and clean all the parts like you did! That will make a huge difference. Holy. Especially since it has over 200 hours in total it has got a lot of stratches and marks all over it. Gotta repaint the engine covers and clean all the parts like you did!
Awesome video, I have found this to be very helpful. Thank you for your polishing techniques and I will be purchasing your products to add to my toolkit. Keep up the excellent work
Your videos is great! I'm addicted to your channel. Would be real interesting to see you fix up parts without all your professional tools and equipment. Maybe even without taking the bike apart but still end up with a extra ordinary result. I'm sure you can!
If you have something with lower speed a soft bristled wire brush with light oil or WD-40 will polish aluminum nicely. I know it sounds like it will scratch but for me it never has as long as oil was present. Works good with a drill and small cup brush.
I've been polishing a Mustang Bullitt intake manifold. I've got a great finish on a lot of the flat surfaces, but I'm struggling to get the detailed areas. The Dremel attachments available at the store and on their website are super pricey and you end up buying combo packs that leave you with too many of one type you're not going to end up using. Thanks for sharing the attachments and bits you used. Metal isn't polished until you can use it as a mirror. Haha
Have you covered when and why one would use the low or high speed options on the Baldor machine? I have ordered your pads three times and am finding that my results are good. I have a 1hp two speed machine from Eastwood. Love your educational videos. Also the method of clear coating freshly buffed steel or aluminum motorcycle parts would be great. I use the 2k Clear Glamour rattle can product.
Thanks for the info. Got some aluminum covers for 78cb750 I want to do. Maybe you could do a video on how to paint the in-laid areas after the polishing that say Honda on my old bike
Cameron, this is a GREAT video. I´ve always liked my vehicles parts to shine. But...it would have been a huge impact to see a photo of the part installed before, and one AFTER. i´d love to have seen that.
Another great video thank you so much for all the information I too buff and polished some parts on my 04 crf450 dirt bike. I also did my swing arm which came out pretty good I used sandpaper and the mother's polish but your methods and tools you use are way better than mine so I will be looking at the links to get all those parts together keep up the good work you're an inspiration and a pillar in the Motorsport can't wait to see what you have for in store for us next
recently broke my collarbone in a dirtbike crash, been cleaning every nook and cranny in the bike i could, now tearing the hole thing down (with one arm) and trying to polish up the bike so it’s gonna look mint, any other ideas for how to make the bike look absolutely mint? love your vids man keep it up
Hey Cam, if you're really interested in having a vapor blasting machine, I could give you some infos on a DIY setup that works just as good as an industrial machine. It's actually really entertaining to build!
I’ve been polishing metal for years now and your video is very informative and bang on for us DIYers.

Do you use WD40 to protect the steel after polishing? Would a metal polish be better?
Thank you for this suggestion
Came back to watch this years later ..

Love watching a young man with talent and drive, I’m 52 years old and you inspired me to restore a bike and ride again this summer,, did it for years when I was younger,, keep up the good work ....
Well that was very inspirational to read!
Thank you for giving Cameron the credit and posting it for me to feel better!

Yeah he got those grit comparisons really wrong. 120 is rough as hell
R.I.P miss you brother you are a legend.
This channel has been so educational!
I was basically given two vintage bikes. They are both very beat up and rusted out. Hopefully I can restore them with some of the techniques learned here!
I wish I had discovered this channel earlier. I really want to get into rebuilding bikes and I've learnt so much from this channel. Thank you!
Truly best channel for learning and fun

I appreciate the kind words Richard, happy to hear you found the video helpful! Your support of Pryme is greatly valued as well!
This is the best video I’ve seen on polishing. Great sequence & tips!

Thanks dude im gonna try that
Man, Really! I'll try that!
I've used nufinish on oxidized paint for 30 years and didn't know that about metals! Thanks!
Polishing metal is more addictive than hash. Only real men and legends will understand this.

Unfortunately not true.... Tweekers also get addicted to polishing..seen one polish his stolen car for 3 days straight using tansmission fluid... Portland Oregon what can I say
Get the AAAA full melt next time
And isn't it ironic.. no matter how clean we get it and how mirror finish.. a REAL man will always say..
'I stil need to polish it some more'
😂😂💯
Cam! You should do a bike and make it a “CHROME” build do this to all the metal pieces it’s not my style but if the whole bike was done like that it would be super unique and would definitely draw a crowd.
With clear plastics
And yz125/250
Bronson Launder everything chrome handle bars triple clamps swing arm levers pegs. Man just thinking about it done like that I would need to be placed in an art museum!
That would be neat
Soo 2003 I like it 😂😂
Always amazing how you can make something old look better than new, keep showing us how to make things better bro!🙏🏻

Ceramic coating 😊
Just bought a bench buffer and I’m ordering pads ASAP. Thanks!!

“Briliant ! Literally. Best polishing video I’ve seen.
One word, Satisfying!
Think I'm going to buy some wheels for my Baldor, put on some tunes, and go polish some boat parts.

after buying a bike that was neglected and watching hundreds of videos on restoring, fixing , cleaning. this is by far the best out there! thank you for this content. will be watching more in the future!
Way more cleaning than what I need for old toolboxes, but very informative. Thanks!
Again, Cameron.... what another great job. And never let anyone tell you that you don't have patience! I was just bragging about your powder coated springs. Those turned out cool too.
First time watching, I found your video very informative. Good clear descriptions of each step as well as each product used.

So thanks for sharing. 😎😉

Thanks for checking it out! Glad you enjoyed it!
Man, gotta say, you do such a good job explaining steps and video work. Primo job man.
Mate, that was a super cool video. Thanks for taking the time to make this.
Thanks for keeping these up for us 'late to the party' guys! Just found your channel and subscribed, too! You do good work as a teacher!
Cameron, you are an excellent instructor👍🇬🇧
Great demo. I just ordered the 8” cleaning pads and cannot wait to try them out. Thanks for showing how they work.
You're a legend dude.. if I lived in the US I'd buy your stuff just to support you
That was awesome. Thank you for putting this together!!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and the tips and options about the polishing and buying of the tools greatly appreciated!
So very satisfying. It's like therapy
Job well done in my 👀s 👍Thanks for explaining the details in such a simple, but effective manor.
I been waiting on these kinda videos these are my favorite how to do stuff i learn a lot off them to

Great job mate. Excellent information without the stupid humour. Fabo. Thanks from Tasmania.
Well done! I was familiar with most of the processes, but you were very through and filled in the details for me. Thanks!

Great stuff Cameron. Top quality videos. Keep 'em comin'
Been watching polishing videos for months and never saw this one. So glad I did. Saving me hours of hand sanding
Hell yeah man, best video for this yet.
OMG what a sweet look, always just what I was looking for, excellent work Cam.
Simple green always amazing
Thanks Cameron, another good tutorial. Now I can really crack on with my restoration. (just the job for our lockdown over here).
Triple tree looks like chrome. That’s my kind of look 👍 70’s chopper style
Outstanding and instructive video to get started in polishing!
Very well produced video. Thanks for sharing
Hi Cameron, Too clean for me personally, but Always enjoy your enthusiasm. Atb from UK
Great Job man! You have the talent to rebuild....
wow.... great video on polishing. getting ready to dive into a motorcycle project.
Entertaining, informational, and... safety. Hell yeah man. Nice vid. Thank you. :D
This was a great video thanks for sharing and taking it thru all the steps!!
Have you covered when and why one would use the low or high speed options on the Baldor machine? I have ordered your pads three times and am finding that my results are good. I have a 1hp two speed machine from Eastwood.
Love your educational videos.

Do you have any tips to cleaning the dirt stained plastic parts? Like the OEM shark fin or disc cover on the front.
Soak it with Simple Green and if all else fails, dye it
Did you get a chance to compare the SIMPLE GREEN PRO M METAL CLEANER AND POLISH liquid against the SIMPLE GREEN PRO HD HEAVY DUTY CLEANER ?
The Napa alimuibrite I believe it’s called works well like the mag well cleaner. Def grab some
Is there anything that Ron Howard can't do? 😁 Awesome work! 👍 Subscribed. 🔔
Very nice. I have several aluminum bike parts to polish up. Thanks for the tips.
Thanks for the info. Got some aluminum covers for 78cb750 I want to do. Maybe you could do a video on how to paint the in-laid areas after the polishing that say Honda on my old bike
You're Great. I really like what you do. Well done Dude. 😉💪👋
Keep making videos like this.
You're very inspiring.
This is a very informative video. You have got skills sir no doubt !
Thanks for the heads up on that Powertec bench buffer! The Baldor's are so expensive. I'll be buying one of those for sure.
Great little how-to. Once done could you ceramic coat the aluminum to help prevent corrosion?
Awesome video dude. Very informative and straight to the point. Thank you. Subscribed.
Thanks Cam for the free shirt, love you pads.
Thank you so much man I’ve been needing to do this but didn’t know how
this was great! thank you for also including safety equipment
Cameron, this is a GREAT video. I´ve always liked my vehicles parts to shine. But...it would have been a huge impact to see a photo of the part installed before, and one AFTER. i´d love to have seen that.
Exactly what I needed to see right now. Thank you
Another great video thank you so much for all the information I too buff and polished some parts on my 04 crf450 dirt bike.
Would love to see a video on polishing a alternator and how to take off the coating or if u can point me to one 👍.
recently broke my collarbone in a dirtbike crash, been cleaning every nook and cranny in the bike i could, now tearing the hole thing down (with one arm) and trying to polish up the bike so it’s gonna look mint, any other ideas for how to make the bike look absolutely mint? love your vids man keep it up
I have learned so much from this video!!
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for all the tips on polishing things up. Great tutorial on getting this done. I'm about to do some parts on my Vette.
Hey Cam, if you're really interested in having a vapor blasting machine, I could give you some infos on a DIY setup that works just as good as an industrial machine. It's actually really entertaining to build!
