This show took too much from Benson, it's no wonder it didn't get picked up. I love these unsold pilots with original commercials. It is the only time machine we have.
Yes, this pilot was later reworked into the 1987-'88 syndicated series "MARBLEHEAD MANOR", with Michael Richards the only returning cast member returning (as "Rick"). It lasted 24 episodes.
That's why this show's theme song sounded so familiar! I was wondering why I remembered the theme from a pilot that didn't go anywhere that came on when I was 5; I do remember watching Marblehead Manor, though.
@@dalethelander3781 Max was a local anchor in Washington before ABC hired him. Unfortunately, this was his last job before he succumbed to AIDS in late 1988
It even has the same theme song as Marblehead Manor. It has been reported that 1984 pilot for Marblehead Manor used what would become the Mr. Belvedere theme, but that may not be correct now.
Thanks. I enjoyed that more than I expected - Derek McGrath manages to make his pseudo Sam Malone role palatable, and most of the others (especially Michael Richards and Garrett Morris) are fine. Only poor Susan Kellerman really suffers, due to the cod Eliza Doolittle accent and too many tired, crass sex jokes. I wish they'd given this cast more of a shot rather than revamping.
I was thinking how surprisingly enjoyable this is. I was expecting something completely ridiculous and a complete time-waster. There are some genuinely laugh-out-loud jokes going on here. Usually, with a pilot, you find yourself struggling to get into the characters of the show, but I really like these people. It really is weird the things that make it onto a network's schedule and the things that don't. This one should have been picked up and given time to grow.
I was wondering where I knew that Bill Pullman-lookalike Derek McGrath from, he looks so familiar. I looked it up and saw he played Diane's stalker on Cheers. It's funny when you see those people that you know you know their face but you just can't place it. (At least he also played Chief Quimby on Inspector Gadget.)
@@epaddon I always like seeing Megan on these shows...it seems like she never did find a part that fit her. This one feels like she has the Caroline Macwilliams role on Benson. And Diane on Cheers.
thanks so much for uploading this stuff. It's theraputic levels of comfiness
I am so glad other people watch old commercials and shows for therapy. It is so much cheaper then other therapies.😀

Interesting to note is that Marblehead (87-88) would also feature, in its cast, Phil Morris, who would go on to play Jackie Chiles in Seinfeld.
Before he did, he appeared in the "MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE" reboot on ABC (1988-'90).
Yeah, I remember Marblehead Manor-not bad. Interesting to see some of the people here: Joseph Maher and Garrett Morris!
I love this kind of stuff with the original commercials, nice little time machine… 😏
This episode genuinely had a few pretty good gags.
MAX ROBINSON at the beginning. The Brother broke open a lot of doors.
I guess the people didn't like, LIKE Cola. It wasn't around long. LOL
I don't remember him anchoring local Chicago newscasts prior to going to the ABC network.

love the 80s

thanks so much.love rare stuff like this.............
Nice
Have not laughed this hard in a very long time.
this show would've been fine in the 90s
IMDB has this listed as a TV movie, but not as a series.
They call unsold pilots that.
Max Robinson after his stint at ABC News. I remember some of these commercials.

I heard the Paramount 1981 jingle at the end. Same producer Gary Nardino reworked it as Marblehead Manor in 1987.
I want more
Derek McGrath from My Secret Identity, Cheers and Dallas.
What role did he play on DALLAS?
@@tomservo56954 he played Valentine of Valentine’s Lingerie in 1986-87. Sue Ellen did business with him.
Kramer❗
Yep!!!
Peter Thomas is the voiceover in the Mint Signal Mouthwash commercial (Like the "Signal if you feel more mint" jingle!)
With such talent behind the screen with David Lloyd writing & James Burrows directing, you would think the end product would have been better...
Joseph's accent makes him sound like he came over from Hogan's Heroes.
Looks like the BENSON SET
I was wondering when Joseph was coming into the show.

I think you’ve posted the first footage of Max Robinson at his post -ABC News tenure at WMAQ on RUclips.
I remember Max Robinson from WTOP/WDVM CBS 9 in Washington, D.C. on the station's Eyewitness News in the 1970's.
Looks a lot like a few other shows.
Megan Gallagher was on DS9 (LIttle Green Men) and Voyager (some role)
YES! FINALLY! Thank you thank you thank you! "Marblehead Manor" was such a POS compared to this.
Advil has only been around since 1984??
I swear to god that theme song is by Sparks.
Megan went on to play Garry Shandlings wife on The Larry Sanders Show.
Before that, a year on "Hill Street Blues" and then "China Beach" as well.
@@epaddon I always like seeing Megan on these shows...it seems like she never did find a part that fit her. This one feels like she has the Caroline Macwilliams role on Benson. And Diane on Cheers.
The wife at the beginning I think was in Animal House.
Those cheesy looks at the camera during the opening. 🤣
They did it on MM as well.
This was pretty funny. I guess with It's Your Move and its own con person they didn't want to have two shows with that.
Funnier than Kramer.
Would’ve been great
MAX ROBINSON..LEGENDARY REPORTER
The Clapper works better, lol
Michael Richards lmao
is there more episodes?
Nope. Rejected pilot.

hi do you have shaping up,or aka pablo, both from 1984?
Benson worked because of the perfect comedic timing of the cast. This show was just a pathetic blatant cookie-cutter rip-off.
AIDS was teeming on the set amongst the make up artists and choreography.
