This gentleman is highly charitable to Indira and Manmohan. Indira strangulated the economy with license-permit,bank nationalisation and FERA.She didn’t allow new production even while people waited for ten years for two wheeler, telephone, cooking gas etc and cement was available only in black. Banks didn’t lend to common people for home, vehicles, consumer goods, small businesses etc. Income tax marginal rate was 97%.From 1971 Manmohan was Chief Economic Adviser,Finance Secretary,RBI HEAD and Planning Commission Head. License permit related policy is handled by Industry Minister and not Finance Minister. Rao was handling Industry portfolio also. Rao did it but Manmohan got the credit while he was the main architect of such socialist, evil policies in the seventies and eighties.

If we had opened up the economy Indian businesses would have faced massive losses due to people's aspiration for foreign products . All the money would had gone outside India.

I tend to agree. Pakistan has always had an open economy and it is intirely import based. Even the car plants that were set up in 90s with the specific purpose of localisation stil to date only act as assemblers with all parts being imported. So I guess it was the right decision to open the Indian economy later. We are paying the price here today.Wish we had a Finance Minister like Manmo Han Singh and a Prime Minister Nasima Roa who can take tough decisions on the economy desipite knowning that it will lead to his loss in the next elections.

    India's iron lady:
    India ll not forget important achievements of Indira Gandhi while also criticizing her;
    1. Green Revolution: Indira Gandhi's government spearheaded the Green Revolution, transforming India from a food-deficit nation to self-sufficiency in food production through technological advancements in agriculture.
    2. Liberation of Bangladesh: Under her leadership, India played a crucial role in supporting the independence movement of Bangladesh, leading to its liberation from Pakistan in 1971.
    3. Nationalization of Banks: Indira Gandhi nationalized major banks in India in 1969, aiming to expand banking services to rural areas and promote economic growth by increasing access to credit.

Indira Gandhi did a interview in America(60 minutes?) which points to America's CIA involvement in the Sikh riots. Please look it up and play it in schools in Punjab so they start thinking beyond their limited understanding. The reason India has so much problems is lack of communication. ALL Indians should be taught how geopolitics works. India is a global country and needs to think globally, everyone not just the politicians. Indian have to be taught to use their spare time to improve themselves through knowledge. India needs beautiful libraries so learning, reading is fun. Young children can learn to play chess with the computer, sudoku, etc. even old people can learn skills to improve their problem solving abilities, skills to improve the other side of your brain. It would cost India nothing, since everyone has a cell, education apps can be free. Ranveer you have grown into yourself and make things interesting, fun and in your own young uncorrupted mind make people to question. There is another young person on "think school" who also makes you think, his podcast should also be played in the schools. Indians love knowledge so throw everything intelligent at them from within India and global knowledge from the four corners of this planet so they can have the intellect to dissect it. Know the truth from lies, propaganda. Get rid of drugs in India that is the new weapon of war. The Italian Mafia(Vatican included) has teamed up with the Nigerian Mafia to sell drugs and prostitution to the world. The Wahabi Muslim movement is a terrorist evil and should be banned in India. Even in Saudi Arabia they are considered evil extremist? It is like ISIS, Taliban, traitors Pakistan should have known better, lack of education, uneducated inflated ego causing a lack of reality check has made Pakistan broke.

There were enough weapons inside to hold the Indian Army for 2 days.. why are the Sikhs not offended by this and what would they expect a government to do ? Did they not know and realise that such weapons couldn't have come in Without the help of Pakistan ? My question being that the Sikh community was offended by the Indian Army entering but were they not offended and hurt by what Bhindranwale and gang were doing inside their holy place in complete conduit of Pakistan in an attempt to break India ? Hi Ranveer,
I like your show and admire what you have achieved at such a young age. I like your width of subjects and choice of guests.
I feel that as a much liked and viewed TV presenter, eapecially with the younger generation, who are trying to come to terms with this country's history and politics, its your responsibility to ensure that enough research is done to understand and then discuss and present correctly any subject.
Leaders of the time gone by cannot come and share their circumstances and reasons for the decisions they took. It's up to us to find out and present with intergity thier lives, circumstances and decisions and the impact it had on the Nation and people.
I feel in this episode on Indira Gandhi, so much was left out.
This episode seemed to potray that crucial time period (nearly 20 yrs) and her role in it rather inadequately. And as a result make the episode lighter rather than with some gravitas, unlike some of your other episodes.
Look forward to other exciting episodes.

Why do people still call it 1984 Riots when it was a genocide? A discussion on this would interesting with the right host. Sikhs were specifically targeted and murdered. Those who led the attack never put on trial but promoted to higher seats in the Indian government. Similar to Nazi Germany. So no action against those that belonged to the Hindu community for committing these atrocities but no problem sending the army to and destroying Darbar Sahib and imposing presidents rule in the only Sikh majority state. What bothers Sikhs most is how many Hindus say just forget and move on. The Jewish community has not forgotten about their Holocaust so why should Sikhs forget their genocide? It's so easy for people to say "Khalistani terrorist" but people still like to use the word "riots" to describe this. Interesting to also know how this is being taught in schools from a historical perspective. No person no matter how big or important they may be should justify mass murder, rape, destruction of places of worship, and theft.
Riot - a violent disturbance of the peace by a crowd.
Genocide - the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group.

She was dictatorial in sence where she promoted family dynastic rule, and that is no no for india. Indira used old british tactics of devide and rule between hindus and Muslims and gave higher preference to Muslim and Muslim appeasement.
She typically spoiled Muslim and made them begging bowl on india just like pakistan is today. Glad congress is gone now. Still, they can not get out of gandhi/nehru grip.

Why do you want to degrade people who are dead. They cannot defend themselves. At present in political scenario they are so many problems. I think my state Andhra Pradesh will disappear from map if present condition continues. Centre and prime minister are not aware of condition in southern states. Why don't you interview about present condition and problems of different states than show past.
