For the uninspiring art you could paint in little creatures, space ships, aliens, mythical beings. Say a sea dragon in an ocean print. If the color of the print or painting doesn’t work for you then try a wash over it to change the mood. Next time you make a frame staple the backside or better yet use thin nails in the side to attach with a bit of wood glue. I throughly enjoy your videos and thank you for sharing them with us. ❤
Please turn on Closed Captions! Thank you!
That picture with the flower vase looks exactly like one I remember from my grand parents house😢
1:52 The picture of The ROCK at the fireplace 😂🤣😂
This room needs a taxidermy peacock on a branch ...
A monkey skeleton
An painting of a snake ...
A painting of a cockatoo
10 owls
A victoian aquarium or terrarium
A zebra
A large globe
Apothecary jars
A bar cart
Crystals
leaded crystal chachkies
More tapestries
😁
15:44 Yes please. A giant rhinestoned peacock would look great. Perfect addition for the wall colour and honestly I really want to see how you would do it. The room is stunning.
Thank you!
I'm not sure if the fireplace works or not but you could put something surprising and whimsy in there! The room looks so amazing though. I don't know how you are good at everything but you are!!!! :)
@HazarielCostumes It's also a completely legit academia-style decoration--my uncle owns a big restored Victorian house and he has an actual taxidermy peacock in the sitting room.
I 100% second the rhinestone peacock idea. 😊
I haven't even gotten past the ads yet (letting them run) and I love this idea!
I love the peacock idea!
Agreed! Love this idea!
I see the bejeweled peacock in dark hues vs. bright ones.... or even a faux Tiffany lamp with a peacock plume inspired shade! 🦚💡
Only if it’s a unique specimen. Albino and white sequins. Or a skeleton white sequins and tail feathers and head plume white gold necklaces and anklets
Have you heard of Christine McConnell? She's the queen of all things dark and weird and darkly whimsical. She makes a great inspiration for dark rooms and vintage furniture (though I don't think she has a pink flamingo, or rhinestoned peacock ;-)). Also; next time just staple the back of the frame 🙂. Some woodfiller in the seams at the front, and you're good to go!
She is amazing!
Does she have a RUclips channel?
@@looselycollected7505 Yes it is From The Mind Of Christine McConnell. She also has a Patreon.
She also has a cool Halloween food/craft series on Netflix
@@andromalius8890is it still on Netflix?
I love it. Can't believe you had so much great furniture left in the house! Its a great base to start adding your own touches of whimsy over the years.
Some are really cool, others are just.... *looks at the fireplace*
@@HazarielAtelierYeah. Inherited/Purchased houses with generations worth of stuff is a mixed bag of treasures and horrors 😂
@namnetare that's so true. I inherited my childhood home and there's cool things and the "omg what am I going to do with 30 (insert item)?!?"
I love how affectionate the cat is with you, you got adopted Ariel! :D
For the big picture frame, it's better to either glue an extra L-shaped piece of wood to the back and staple that, or put glue on the edges and staple from behind, then fill gaps with wood filler. But you life and you learn, as you said :)
People not get bored of watching boring mudane live action all the time
OMG, that is a DREAM house! I love the choice of arsenic green on the walls.
Love it ❤
Rhinestone peacock but gothic...? Black, purples, blues and maybe a pop off bright pink would look so good.
Like seeing the house transformation process as well as your crazy sewing skills.
It's actually so satisfying to see you paint the wall properly :D. First painting the edges and around all the door and window frames and THEN painting the large surfaces of the wall. My mom was a painter (like in renovating homes, not an artsy painter) for 40 years, and this is how the pros do it and how she taught me to do it. It's way more efficient and less patchy to do it this way. I always die inside a little bit, if people start painting right in the middle of the Wall, where overlaps are the most visible 😅. Though to be fair, this isn't so much an issue with highly pigmented quality paint, since it often times covers without streaks with the first coat (except for light paint over dark)
That is a beautiful living room you've made, and this video has it all: humour, drama, cat, DIY; I cried when you sanded and painted over those beautiful wooden chairs, but I forgave you when you (quite correctly) pointed out that Finland was robbed 🤣You were on the right track, though, when you made your picture frame. Just apply PVA glue on the surfaces that will be joined, and staple them together on the backside. Thanks for showing us your process of turning a house into a home 🙂
I know for the chairs and maybe you are right, but also, I need to feel living in my home and not the house from previous owners, so yep paint it is !
Also Finland for the win.
Oh, l totally understand the joy of not having to hem those curtains!
That's how i get satisfaction in my life
My Ex and I gutted to the studs and remodeled 3 different houses in 6 years. 1985- 91. So much fun and lots of wonderful memories. But OMG so much work! I miss having all that energy. Thanks for taking us on your adventures! The room Turned out wonderful. You can always add your personal touch to the paintings to make them your own. And less “Proper”
I would love to see you make a giant Beetle and rind stone it! like a Hercules beetle sewn together or sculpted and hanging on the wall or something
So beautiful! I think you should turn something that would normally be "dark academia" into a whimsy piece. Like, a small bust of someone, but covered in glitter. 😅 If you wanted to, you could even keep it a darker color, to not make it stand out too much.
Mmmm, yes, green and blue interference paints would look great as they work best on top of a dark colour.
I like how that wall color looks quite dark or light depending on the light hitting it. It's nice to have a change.
The colour really confuses me. Is it green or blue?
@@aksilebIt's teal. It'll have a green or blue hue depending on lighting
Dark Academia is my deal. I have two crystal balls. A collection of Egyption statues. Fossils and taxidermy under glass. Several glass skulls. A collection of lab glass and dried flowers framed under glass. I also love my hand painted porcelain portraits mounted on velvet and in brass frames. Also, I have several handmade tapestries.
Nice flex on your character inventory 😍
For someone who is self described not an interior design decorator you did fantastic with this themed room. Good job giiiirl
Oooo I love the color. I think you should do things like paint a tiara on one of those guys in the paintings or paint a Big Foot in the landscape painting.
We took hundreds of years worth of wallpaper off colonial horsehair plaster. The middle was red velvet that bled. The bottom layers we borders from one foot to about four inches. That was because at that point in time it was ruinously expensive. We only had putty knives and spray bottles.
"Not your cat" seems to also love the renovation! 😂
With that wall color, the rhinestone peacock would be amazing!
It's nice to watch someone have fun doing a DYI decor project. It turned out well for you. In the years to come other ideas will come about and you'll find ways to mix it in over time.
I tend to love darker reds for walls but end up doing a dark beige or Tuscan yellow because being in darkness sets off my migraine headaches. I go with red, black and copper accents in decor. My tastes have changed a lot since my first project 40 years ago.
I have full faith that you have enough natural whimsey to furnish your entire house beautifully xx
Indeed, we have many other projects (and many other rooms)
Your first attempt at framing was pretty good! If you want to try again, a few tips: join the corners with wood glue, then add the staples in the same places but on the flat side, they'll hold it secure while the glue dries and you won't see anything from the front. And if you want a super seamless corner, they sell little wax sticks you can rub in to fill in any gaps from the cut angle being off, but if you're going to paint it anyway you can just fill it with something like airdry clay and give it a quick sand to get it super smooth for way cheaper
My eyes lit up as soon as I saw that green paint. Absolutely stunning!
Some gorgeous Indian textiles, with gold embroidery and beading and tiny mirrors. Dark jewel colours, lots of rich folds...
Yes! Sims 1 soundtrack, perfect for house renovations!
I appreciate the cinematography. And the cat. And the rain and the rainbow.
OMG The Sims music, I DIED!
Congratulations, dad! I mean, Ariel 💙the room looks amazing!
Heck yeah to the Saga of the Icelanders book on your shelf!!! I love that book!
Looks great! One tip for small gaps in picture frames that are going to be painted - mix sawdust with wood glue and push into gap, smooth. When dry sand if necessary and paint!
Hey so not sure if it's the same in France, but just a heads up, in Australia, be super careful removing textured walls and ceiling that have the popcorn kernel like texture cos it can contain asbestos
Oh It might be an issue in France but before getting the houses we ensured that no abestos was used. It's a legal obligation to have a check on this!
@@HazarielAtelier That is amazing to hear! I wish that was the case in more places! Thank you for letting me know!
That texture which is called knock down or orange peel, is actually made with recent materials, so no asbestos was ever used anyway.
Your fireplace! Its so cool! I have happy memories in my first childhood home with a fireplace, so i love them.
So nice 🔥🔥
OMG THE SIMS SOUNDTRACK - THE BEST BUSY WORK MUSIC ❤
Omg the cord management! Can't believe I've never thought of that! Thank you ❤
OMG the sims 1 music! so much memories
Perhaps painting over the old paintings? ;) I think Mr. Cat should get a portrait with one of those fancy uniforms.
You are so spot on with your content back to back😭😭
That wall colour is EVERYTHING! 💚💚
I love your mood and the face you show on social media never motivated like this before you thanks for every thing
THE FACT THAT BERNADETTE BANNER IS A PATRON IS SO COOL
You can find metal corners at crafting stores or anywhere you can salvage metal bits to decorate the corners of your picture frames. You can also apply a bit of gold leaf to give them an antique flare and depth. I used to do frame restoration.
Love love love that dark green color. Gorgeous!
An absolute RESOUNDING 💫YEESSS💫 to the rhinestone peacock! 🦚 🤩
Thrilled for you with this house! I so envy the view! 🏞 GLORIOUS!
Fabulous job! LOADS of work 😱 but you persevered 💪🏽🙌🏻
Thank you!
Your *Red* hair against the *Green* wall looks awesome!
Very nice! I wasn’t sure about the wall color at first but it really looks perfect for the dark academia aesthetic. (I have red walls in my library!)
Fun part is that the color of the walls is slightly changing depending on the outdoor light/night/clouds
@@HazarielAtelier cool! My parents had a large painting of woods and stream that would look different depending on if it was sunny or stormy weather outside.
0:38 Nice patio
You're living like a queen, now. 👸 😊
Plants/vines in differing shades of green might be interesting on the wall
That green is EVERYTHING- my hair is this colour thanks to Manic Panic. Yum!
OMG I was SOLD with your "build mode" music 🤣😂🤣😘😘😘 I know, oh I know ♥ Awesome video!
Add Taxidermy .. Moths .. Butterfly's.. Beetles. ... Add some female shapes vases.. anything and everything that inspires you when looking at it... Statues of deity's .. romantic figures. Beautiful Note Books and journals. Living Plants and Fake .. I recommend House Ivy and Parlor Palms to start. Love the color its the color of my dark academia bedroom hehe! Beautiful work!
you should go for a howls moving castle jewelry and crystals and feathers and potions all stuck to the walls with pins and daggers. x
That textured wall was a huge dustcatcher. You made the right choice to scrape it.
What an amazing view!
PLEASE make more of these videos!! Love love LOVE!!
I patiently await the rhinestone peacock. I also like the idea of a bust of someone (the Rock?), but in glitter. You like sparkles. Room needs more sparkles.❤🎉
I admire your work ethic, you did it alone. Inspiring.
That music from The Sims 1!!!! memories indeed!!!🤣🤣
I love the vibe by candlelight. :) But if you add a pink flamingo, you might have to call it Campy Academia!
I laughed too hard at the windows joke 🤣 je découvre ta chaîne, j'adore ton humour et tes idées 😘
Hahahah I love listening to the Sims 1 soundtrack while doing house projects! 👏 great job looks so cool 👏
All on board with the peacock. You can also find iridescent top coat acrylic paint
Beautiful!! You only need the peacock and Tiffany lamps everywhere jajja
Love your humor and the whole room!!!!
the perfect music! haha nostalgic💫
Yes!! The music of the Sims!!
Impressed with your perseverance with so many tedious tasks, and with the final results. I would live on your porch to enjoy the view!
I’m so impressed with your energy and talent. 👍🏻
The reveal reminds me of my favourite French film The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec. Looks a lot like her apartement.
Love this video!! I will always watch good home renovation content. And sewing content. And general chaos content. Basically, whatever you’re up to! Love from the US!
Rhinestone Peacock for the flamboyant beauty! 😀🌞🦋🐛
Beautiful. There's a warm to that style. If I was not a renter I would definitely do this.
I love that green color. It is so pretty.
Love, Love, Love, Love, Love!
❤❤Love it!! The wall paint is fascinating. It seems like green and later blue!? Beautiful!!
Le marouflage des fenêtres, je ne m'y attendais pas.
+1 pour la référence musicale
REALLY nice flooring job! Love it that you used the underlayment and wall spacers! First DIYer on YT that actually knew what you are doing; what a lovely change of pace. SUPERB decorating job. Loved the whole video.
The flamingo idea sounds fantastic! The Alice in wonderland vibe would contrast beautifully with dark academia 😍
Absolutely LOVE it! It's so amazing how you tied together all that random stuff, that you're finding ways to USE the stuff that was in the house when a lot of people would just dump it or hide it.
Using hot glue to hold down permanent cables to the wall without ugly brackets? Big brain move right there. So smart! Also loved the creativity with the frames, and for next time, I usually see the staples put in the back of the joint? The green you picked is so luscious, and I'm so glad you were able to get rid of the popcorn texture (even if it was probably a LOT more work than you showed us)
ça le fait carrément! 1 ou 2 grands tapis à chiner et c'est gagné! La couleur du mur au début...mais très beau rendu at the end; bravo, beau boulot!
How lucky you were to get all of those beautiful furnitur for free. You got so many wonderfull pieces which will serve you for eternity (unlike those IKEA cardboard furniture).
Omg yes! Finland was definitely robbed!😂 💚🩷 amazing to hear you love Eurovision 😊 The dark green with the gold looked amazing, your curtain matched so well 👍✨️
Hubby and I just did 3 rooms with the same type if flooring!! We've got 2 more to go! They're pretty easy to install once you do few rows. You did an awesome job, yours look amazing!!
Ca fait très english, j'aime beaucoup :) le fauteuil et le sofa a pieds sont magnifiques.
Loved the kitty, too!
Future tip for making frames...staple the backside of the trim. Then use wood filler if the pieces don't quite match up. Whimsy to add ideas: Get an inexpensive lamp shade. Add beading, fringe, and trim to the bottom. Find a lamp base you like...voilà instant Victorian lamp. I added iron on dead head moth patches to the sides of mine (quasi square shade)
One thing that will add to the idea is a lot of potted plants, especially the trailing kind.
Wow how beautiful love the colours in your home and what a lovely view 💚🤎🌈
I love how it turned out!😍
For fun and whimsy, popart made w perler beads or legos. Lego has a cool Warhol Marilyn portrait. Ive made ir myself w beads in multiple colors. A fun and pretty projekt.
Don't give some more legos ideas to the BF!
Goth flamingo and rhinestone peacock!
I just discovered you, and girl, I am OBSESSED!!!!
Absolutely gorgeous! I love your style and creativity ❤The lamp was amazing🤗!
I was horrified to see you covering the tile floor, and ohhh, the chairs!😢 however, I reminded myself to trust the process!!😊 You did not disappoint!! 👏
I'm watching thinking ohhh yes a peacock 🦚 is going to look Fab on those walls. 😂😅😂
You did a Beautiful remodel so cozy, and that porch what a Bonus!! ✌️💜🇺🇸
Good interpretation of Dark Academia. I wish I had access to furniture like that!
I love cling film for windows!
It's a great start! I think as you find little odd treasures the whimsical vibes will grow. I would add in plants tho!
I love the wall color that is beautiful.
Yes. I vote for the giant rinestone peacock!
Turned out beautiful! 😍
