For the uninspiring art you could paint in little creatures, space ships, aliens, mythical beings. Say a sea dragon in an ocean print. If the color of the print or painting doesn’t work for you then try a wash over it to change the mood. Next time you make a frame staple the backside or better yet use thin nails in the side to attach with a bit of wood glue. I throughly enjoy your videos and thank you for sharing them with us. ❤

15:44 Yes please. A giant rhinestoned peacock would look great. Perfect addition for the wall colour and honestly I really want to see how you would do it. The room is stunning.
I'm not sure if the fireplace works or not but you could put something surprising and whimsy in there! The room looks so amazing though. I don't know how you are good at everything but you are!!!! :)
@HazarielCostumes It's also a completely legit academia-style decoration--my uncle owns a big restored Victorian house and he has an actual taxidermy peacock in the sitting room.
Have you heard of Christine McConnell? She's the queen of all things dark and weird and darkly whimsical. She makes a great inspiration for dark rooms and vintage furniture (though I don't think she has a pink flamingo, or rhinestoned peacock ;-)). Also; next time just staple the back of the frame 🙂. Some woodfiller in the seams at the front, and you're good to go!
Only if it’s a unique specimen. Albino and white sequins. Or a skeleton white sequins and tail feathers and head plume white gold necklaces and anklets
I love it. Can't believe you had so much great furniture left in the house! Its a great base to start adding your own touches of whimsy over the years.
Love it ❤ Rhinestone peacock but gothic...? Black, purples, blues and maybe a pop off bright pink would look so good. Like seeing the house transformation process as well as your crazy sewing skills.
I love how affectionate the cat is with you, you got adopted Ariel! :D For the big picture frame, it's better to either glue an extra L-shaped piece of wood to the back and staple that, or put glue on the edges and staple from behind, then fill gaps with wood filler. But you life and you learn, as you said :)
So beautiful! I think you should turn something that would normally be "dark academia" into a whimsy piece. Like, a small bust of someone, but covered in glitter. 😅 If you wanted to, you could even keep it a darker color, to not make it stand out too much.
That is a beautiful living room you've made, and this video has it all: humour, drama, cat, DIY; I cried when you sanded and painted over those beautiful wooden chairs, but I forgave you when you (quite correctly) pointed out that Finland was robbed 🤣You were on the right track, though, when you made your picture frame. Just apply PVA glue on the surfaces that will be joined, and staple them together on the backside. Thanks for showing us your process of turning a house into a home 🙂
I know for the chairs and maybe you are right, but also, I need to feel living in my home and not the house from previous owners, so yep paint it is ! Also Finland for the win.
Oooo I love the color. I think you should do things like paint a tiara on one of those guys in the paintings or paint a Big Foot in the landscape painting.
It's nice to watch someone have fun doing a DYI decor project. It turned out well for you. In the years to come other ideas will come about and you'll find ways to mix it in over time. I tend to love darker reds for walls but end up doing a dark beige or Tuscan yellow because being in darkness sets off my migraine headaches. I go with red, black and copper accents in decor. My tastes have changed a lot since my first project 40 years ago.
Dark Academia is my deal. I have two crystal balls. A collection of Egyption statues. Fossils and taxidermy under glass. Several glass skulls. A collection of lab glass and dried flowers framed under glass. I also love my hand painted porcelain portraits mounted on velvet and in brass frames. Also, I have several handmade tapestries.
It's actually so satisfying to see you paint the wall properly :D. First painting the edges and around all the door and window frames and THEN painting the large surfaces of the wall. My mom was a painter (like in renovating homes, not an artsy painter) for 40 years, and this is how the pros do it and how she taught me to do it. It's way more efficient and less patchy to do it this way. I always die inside a little bit, if people start painting right in the middle of the Wall, where overlaps are the most visible 😅. Though to be fair, this isn't so much an issue with highly pigmented quality paint, since it often times covers without streaks with the first coat (except for light paint over dark)
My Ex and I gutted to the studs and remodeled 3 different houses in 6 years. 1985- 91. So much fun and lots of wonderful memories. But OMG so much work! I miss having all that energy. Thanks for taking us on your adventures! The room Turned out wonderful. You can always add your personal touch to the paintings to make them your own. And less “Proper”
Your first attempt at framing was pretty good! If you want to try again, a few tips: join the corners with wood glue, then add the staples in the same places but on the flat side, they'll hold it secure while the glue dries and you won't see anything from the front. And if you want a super seamless corner, they sell little wax sticks you can rub in to fill in any gaps from the cut angle being off, but if you're going to paint it anyway you can just fill it with something like airdry clay and give it a quick sand to get it super smooth for way cheaper
We took hundreds of years worth of wallpaper off colonial horsehair plaster. The middle was red velvet that bled. The bottom layers we borders from one foot to about four inches. That was because at that point in time it was ruinously expensive. We only had putty knives and spray bottles.
REALLY nice flooring job! Love it that you used the underlayment and wall spacers! First DIYer on YT that actually knew what you are doing; what a lovely change of pace. SUPERB decorating job. Loved the whole video.
@@HazarielAtelier cool! My parents had a large painting of woods and stream that would look different depending on if it was sunny or stormy weather outside.
Looks great! One tip for small gaps in picture frames that are going to be painted - mix sawdust with wood glue and push into gap, smooth. When dry sand if necessary and paint!
An absolute RESOUNDING 💫YEESSS💫 to the rhinestone peacock! 🦚 🤩 Thrilled for you with this house! I so envy the view! 🏞 GLORIOUS! Fabulous job! LOADS of work 😱 but you persevered 💪🏽🙌🏻
You can find metal corners at crafting stores or anywhere you can salvage metal bits to decorate the corners of your picture frames. You can also apply a bit of gold leaf to give them an antique flare and depth. I used to do frame restoration.
I thought you were going to Rhinestone that Skull you found for your Dark Academia theme............ also could be your disco ball if you hang and light it right XD
For fun and whimsy, popart made w perler beads or legos. Lego has a cool Warhol Marilyn portrait. Ive made ir myself w beads in multiple colors. A fun and pretty projekt.

Omg yes! Finland was definitely robbed!😂 💚🩷 amazing to hear you love Eurovision 😊 The dark green with the gold looked amazing, your curtain matched so well 👍✨️
I thought you were crazy covering the tile floor with almost the same color laminate flooring, but when it was done, WOW, the wood floor really warmed up the room. You had a great eye for that.
Absolutely LOVE it! It's so amazing how you tied together all that random stuff, that you're finding ways to USE the stuff that was in the house when a lot of people would just dump it or hide it. Using hot glue to hold down permanent cables to the wall without ugly brackets? Big brain move right there. So smart! I patiently await the rhinestone peacock. I also like the idea of a bust of someone (the Rock?), but in glitter. You like sparkles. Room needs more sparkles.❤🎉
You are creative and brave. Seeing you just go for it with everything has given me the courage to tackle a few things I’ve been putting off because I wasn’t quite sure how to handle them. After all, there aren’t many mistakes that can’t be fixed, so why not just go for it? I have one question though, what are you NOT good at?😊
Very pretty! I love the peacock idea. You can also use the skull in the pinned photo for the video and cover it with bits of mirrored glass to make a disco skull.
Future tip for making frames...staple the backside of the trim. Then use wood filler if the pieces don't quite match up. Whimsy to add ideas: Get an inexpensive lamp shade. Add beading, fringe, and trim to the bottom. Find a lamp base you like...voilà instant Victorian lamp. I added iron on dead head moth patches to the sides of mine (quasi square shade)
A little trick if you ever make a frame again: 1- The staples are a great idea. Try stapling from the back. 2- You can use the wood shavings and wood glue to make a wood filler... Or just buy paintable wood filler to cover the joints. Also, I think my parent's dining room is this same shade and hue. As for what to add... Maybe an old looking chest that you can bedazzle? Absolutely hand your realistic heart purse somewhere
Such a lot of work all by yourself, especially if you haven't done it before - go you! If the worst thing is the picture frame, you've succeeded 👍 It looks great, and I think it will be a marvellous canvas for you to make your own. With the furniture etc from the previous owners, you'll be able to set something up for now and live with the place for a while, changing bits and pieces over time. I can never tell what I want from a space (how to use it and how it looks) until I've lived in it for a little while. I see The Cat Who Is Definitely Not Yours is still definitely not yours 😂
More pictures! More dried flowers and silk flowers! Maybe by some old books with ink print drawings of botanical flowers and book drawings (black & white). Busts of people. Crystal vases. 😊
