    I'm 73yrs old & now taking up my guitar playing "seriously" 😄 This is a great aid to learning & fretting exercise. For those who have commented that they can't make out where you are actually fretting, just listen to the note, use your "ear" and you can find it that way.

    • @fordhammie

      They can also change the speed of the vid to capture his fretting:) I do it all the time:)

    Help! I need it! I saw an old dude in Dallas Playing and old firebird he was just playing the Minor pent. But it was so flavorful . Just the way he effortlessly moved from string to string and the little small steps he took to make it sound like he was fluttering. Like Angus Young does sometimes they move from string to string so fast it almost becomes impossible to pick out what there doing! But it sounds great. I think Ive developed crippling bad habits. This is a good lesson.

    Great ideas to make the otherwise boring pentatonic scale sound musical. Considering this is usually the first scale beginning guitar players learn this is a most valuable lesson. Also serves as great picking exercises for left and right-hand coordination. Well done, Jared!

      Thanks, David! That really means a lot. I've been on RUclips for only a few months and have been struggling to find my "voice" and approach. I want the lessons to be as beneficial as possible for people. Your feedback is super helpful in that it tells me I'm heading in the right direction. Cheers! :)

    Jared you demonstrate the true definition of what “education” means….to bring out of! Somehow I know this stuff but when you explain it then it all makes complete sense and I’m left scratching my head as to why I didn’t see it this way before! Bit by bit I’m going to invest in your various courses as I know you are the best teacher I never had. Thank you for sharing your time and wisdom.

    That's something I was looking for for a while. I am trying (let's say it's one of many approaches) not only to understand pentatonic as my first scale, but to do it in a way that will let me learn any other scales more efficently in the future. Thanks for upload!

      I didn’t get it either😅. As far as i understood, you play 5 notes and then go back 2 notes and play 5 notes from there. Rinse and repeat. So basically +5/-2

    Sound Guitar ____ I am disappointed that your 3 Pentatonic Scale patterns reverted back to TABS ... I was hoping that you would convert the lessons into 'Intervallic scale degrees, so as to be able to use any Tonic. Admittedly' I am unable to to that myself, as it is time consuming and few think in those terms. PEACE !

    • @soundguitar
      @soundguitar  3 года назад +1

      I'm sorry you were disappointed! The melodic patterns exercises aren't meant to be about scale degrees, they're just about physically breaking up the scale so it's not strictly linear and so we can see the whole map of the scale form at once. But if you want to do the melodic patterns exercises while being mindful of the scale degree numbers then I recommend using the scale sheet image from this page: www.soundguitarlessons.com/blog/Minor-Pentatonic-Scale-Guitar-Positions, and having it side by side with the melodic patterns so you can look and see which scale degree you're playing, or use it to write out the numbers on the patterns sheet - whatever works best for you. Hope that helps! -Jared

    there has to be a more systematic approach other than learning patterns

  • @garimh
    @garimh 3 года назад +1

    Good lesson but think it could have been improved by including examples of using these patterns in solos, improv, etc. Otherwise they're just memorized patterns, like scales.

    • @soundguitar
      @soundguitar  3 года назад +3

      Thanks for the helpful feedback and suggestion! I appreciate it. I've gotten better at including more real music examples in recent videos. I definiltey agree they are important.
      In this video I do include an example of improvising using the patterns, I just don't explicitly point it out: check out starting here: ruclips.net/video/aTMoxAhqgG8/видео.html.
      Announcing it as an example would have been better. Again, thanks for the constructive advice!
      Cheers!
