We, as audience members, were SUPPOSED to trust Lucius and believe him, whereas, in the first Gladiator, we WANTED to trust Maximus. He earned our trust. His character and motivations were way more believable.
Saw this in IMAX last Thursday, Denzel carried the movie. The lead guy didn't wow me at all. The emperors were annoying. The CGI of the animals (except the rhino) looked horrendous. The turn of Denzel's character from wanting to lead Rome to burning it down was weird. I still enjoyed it but damn this could've been better.
I don't know how anyone who watched the movie ever thought he had good intentions with "leading" rome. He just wanted power and played the role to get it
I am sorry. I think Ridley Scott should have taken a page out of Lucas and just beef up the original with today's tech. Other than Denzel's performance, I saw this as a convoluted mess. The worst moment was Maximus saying Lucius is safe and then LITTERALLY 20 seconds later Mom spirits Lucius away because she fears for his life. It made no sense. Give me the back story. Show me how the twins became emperors. Give me more substance or just make this into 2 movies instead of the rushed mess that we got. No character development, too many call backs to the original.
It was entertaining but it felt like each scene skipped like 5 hours of story and politics. Felt rushed. Would have been better as a series I think. 7/10 for me
Denzel stole and ate every scene he was in. His Machiavellian like performance kept me engaged and elevated the movie for me. There’s a ton of folks online hating on this movie and I feel that’s because there’s a lot more diversity in this second film then there is in the first film.
I saw it the Saturday after it came out here in the UK. I really enjoyed it, was totally entertained, even had damp eyes towards the end. It was an ensemble of cast, everyone played their parts well. I think Paul Mescal did really well as the lead, he was stoic, which I think is what the his character was meant to be. I see people mistake that as wooden acting. On a sidenote, I'm not sure why they don't get Pedro doing what he does here in Mando, he can obviously do fight scenes. Luckily I'm not the type of person who tries to compare two films like many have been doing. The original is the original, no film is ever going to beat it, it will always hold a special place in my heart as it was partly filmed down the road from me. I just wish people would stop going into a film with a negative mindset, and already with a closed mind. They are not doing themselves any favours ... and that isn't just Gladiator, I'm talking TV shows as well.
Hahaha finally fucking first.. love you dudes
You had to get the 1st spot one day :) WE LOVE YOU TOO FAM

Part 1 & 2 was enough not to
Hello, when are you going to watch the final trailer of "Mufasa: The Lion King"?
This movie was absolute garbage, especially compared to the 1st. I'm happy for whoever liked it.
I still need to see it! Still need to see the first one.
James Cameron made Aliens (Alien 2) not Ridley
