i am able to dominate my whole kickboxing class just by training using your videos. EXTREMELY helpful to me. god thanks your channel is here to help me out lol. ur da best!
The reason why you end up out of range on your uppercut, is because when Cruz leads with it, he's switching stances into it, which closes the distance. The only uppercuts he doesn't switch on are the ones where his opponent is closing the distance on him. Other than that, great analysis!
0:23 tactic 1 1:39 tactic 2 3:03 tactic 3 3:41 tactic 4 4:19 tactic 5 5:16 tactic 6 5:43 tactic 7. Enjoy these time stamps if you're like me and have to watch the demonstration parts of the video to the learn the movements properly.
lol I kept coming back to this video multiple times. Dominick Cruz has quickly become one of my favorite fighters in MMA in the past few years; I've seen multiple video studies of Dominick, and this is the one that's helped me finally apply some of his footwork and angles, namely the dart, to their full effect. I like how you show the way you adapt his tactics to make it fit your own style and strengths.
Awesome bro! I love Dominic's unorthodox style. I use a few of his movements but this is good insight for more of his techniques! I actually watched your video sparring with the guy at 2:54, and instantly recognized the Dominic dart Awesome Video!
Bro bein straight up ? i came expecting this channel to be bullshit lmao i was not disappointed but rather impressed. shit's fire and i subbed. nice breakdown, this channels gonna blow tf up
It’s insane the amount of cardio and knee dexterity to fight with Cruz’s style for an entire fight. There’s no wonder he’s had so many knee injuries because that style requires some very dynamic darting and pivoting, straining the knees. Not just that, but trying to fight with that movement for a single round, constantly bouncing around and entering with off angles is incredibly tiring.
Nice vid, sir! Also a nice example on trying new things and not being afraid of failing. As well as sportsmanship. It's clear in the free sparing it's light and friendly, allowing room for growth. Shout out to the Renzo fam!
Great insight! Also during the dart ins leading to the combinations i find it way easier on smashing my back leg and jumping into a shuffle just like you would switch kick(ball of the foot) in order to make the switch more explosive/cover way more distance and then follow up with the step on creating the angle. Dominick really has understood the concept and changed the game in my opinion on footwork and angles.
Jaycee Styles I agree with all of that but I would point out that wonderboy takes more damage because he risks more by being more aggressive than Cruz.
As always beautiful and very helpful video to help understand Cruz´s tactics. I think D. Cruz footwork and fighting style is one of the most fascinanting in mma. I´ve watched many videos on this topic but yours is the most detailed and comprehensible
omg. he does listen to his fans . man. the compl3xity of doms striking always fascinated me. thanks to the video I can now understand more of the intricacy of it all
I love tactics 2 & 3 cause i use them all the time, but i always end the combo with a roundhouse kick, pretty effective to score points. Because when fighting with veterans, they usually catch us with roundhouse kick to score points, so following up immediately with a kick of our own is probaly recommended to keep the score even.
Such as his "Tactic" to get into a brawl to try and prove he is a man and get knocked out a few times to the point he has enough TBI's/Concussion Syndrome that it just takes a breeze to happen again. Then, are warned by neurologist to quit fighting, keep fighting anyway of course.
On that Dominick Cruz dart wonderboy and another karate style UFC fighter like to throw a side kick off the trailing rear leg. Looks awesome and seems effective. Haven't tried it myself yet.
I like the dart in crouch circle out the most, you can also use it to sit down on a powerful and confusing left cross just watch out for the check hook!
Love your adaptation. So important to do what feels right for your anatomy. I've been wondering if you've ever had an injury that stopped you from training or affected your performance and how you dealt with it.
ive been suffering from a lower back injury, and to be honest I havnt been dealing with it the right way. I kept training even though it hurts and I needed to just rest for it to get better!
@@MMAShredded I have this yoga app called alo moves. Theres a great pair of teachers that do lower back therapy . Helped a lot with my Siatic nerve and ham string issues that where causing my lower back pain. Also athlean x you tube channel has several great lower back pain vids. Check em out my dude.
In tactic 4 can you try throwing an upjab(with your right hand) I think that's a good counter, my coach named it "long uppercut" Love your vid, It helped with everything. Training, sparring, you name it.
I plan to do both those fighters, and change the playlist to a "UFC and Muay Thai Legends" title instead! I got GSP and Buakaw coming up soon so stay tuned!
Hello, I have a Big question about muscle conditioning for impact/striking (not bone conditioning), martial arts like Kyokoshin karate, Shaolin kung fu and Muay Thai. So I'm trying to learn about the science behind muscle toughness conditioning. I've started reading about Wolff's Law, but i read that his original work ONLY applies strictly to bone hardening. He never wrote about muscle hardening. To save you writing an essay, would you be able to point me towards any solid literature and science on muscle becoming harder/denser/tougher from impact and striking? Like dropping a medicine ball on your abs for example. I've been doing that for about 6 months, and my abs are "thicker", but i don't know how to prove it. And like the shaolin guys being lifted on spears, Kyokoshin guys taking full force punches to the body etc. What has SCIENTIFICALLY happened to their muscles to be able to do that? It's not just breathing. Something has physically happened to their muscles too. Do you know any good books or scientific research etc on this subject? Thanks so much!
I havn't read any books on this subject yet unfortunately, but I am actually making a video on how I personally condition my body for a fight.. so stay tuned for that if you are interested!
Ten Thousand Method Although im not entirely sure, I think the Contidioning you are talking about may be known as Davis's Law, Its The same as Wolff's Law but for soft tissue i.e muscle.
Great video bro, i'm getting into muay thai after doing some ju jitsu, was wondering how tall you were btw just out of curiousity and how long you been training? Keep up the good work bro!
Is Devin Henry the same height as you or shorter because hes ripped at 200lb which is insane for a person who's 5'8-5'9ish, thanks again for the response!
Yes, in fact, this style was directly created to fight taller opponents. Cruz used it in amateurs, where his weight class didn't exist yet so he fought much, much taller and heavier guys all the time. you can't get touched by your opponent at all when hes bigger longer and stronger than you, you have to use your agility and movement to your advantage. He explains that in multiple interviews. Angles completely nullify a reach advantage, and it's much harder for them to turn after you pivot on them. After the amateurs, he took it to the pros after his weight class was created, and he stuck with the style. I'm still amazed by how Cruz ducks under strikes against much shorter opponents, too, which is way harder than avoiding and going under the strikes of a bigger, taller guy.
Im back ! Was on Holiday, missed the chanel. Could you do a video on self defence situations, for example if you or your oponent is a trained fighter or not and what tactics to use. After you cannot avoid it anymore offcourse. Would like a real fighters opinion on this:)
In tactic 4 i believe you found yourself out of reach because cruz is crouching to the right side as he steps in. punches he was appeared to slip and counter were actually reaction to cruz stepping in. it is impossible to slip and counter with an uppercut like that unless your opponent really overcommits to his right or you step in deep with your slip.
Dominick will also dart then go into a takedown because usually the opponent is looking to repivot towards him and isnt balanced for a sprawl. Or the opponent is still striking or retracting a strike in response to the dart and isn’t expecting a takedown
BJJ Scout does a great job on his videos and others alike. Although I think his footage of Dominick Cruz got taken down I think you can either find his video on Dominick on either Vimeo or Dailymotion
You do, but like any slipping of punches, you risk slipping into a head kick. But it doesn't necessarily mean you shouldn't slip. It all depends on the scenario and who you are fighting.

Hard to answer the first question too be honest, I think it depends on everyone. You want to drill it so that you react instinctually instead of thinking of what to do. Of course there is a game plan in which you plan ahead, but countering and attacking with timing should all be from your drilling!

Dominick Cruz has THE footwork in UFC bar none. Love the video my bro, you got Cruz's footwork mastered. It's official bro, Dillashaw/ Garbrandt 2😉
Jaycee Styles wonderboy is just as good I think.
Paragon of Growth Oh yeah bro Wonderboy has great lateral movement due to his Karate background but he takes a lot of damage where Cruz does not
Jaycee Styles I agree with all of that but I would point out that wonderboy takes more damage because he risks more by being more aggressive than Cruz.

Wow thanks Jeff! As for the dart in cross you changed your stance at 2:56 , why u do that? And is there dart in overhand, if yes how do u see it ?
I don't see the overhand dart, but I switch my stance because i trick my opponent that I will be throwing a left kick and step in with the cross dart.

Five stars !! 😃 keep up the good work

Your question is how to fight a trained fighter ? Could you rephrase?
Cruz also uses some Tyson shifting? Or Lomachenko's shuffle as well as far as I know.
yeah!
Awesome!!... can't really figure out what the angle lines represent though....
It just shows that direction i am pointing and what direction the opponent is pointing, and how I am facing him but he is not facing me
Makes sense now. I thought at first it was the line of your feets! Thanks a lot for sharing!

Dominick will also dart then go into a takedown because usually the opponent is looking to repivot towards him and isnt balanced for a sprawl. Or the opponent is still striking or retracting a strike in response to the dart and isn’t expecting a takedown
Dart in with the knee tap! Yeah I thought that move may be a bit to advanced.

Question about tactic 2. When you push off like that don’t you run the risk of slipping straight into a head kick?
You do, but like any slipping of punches, you risk slipping into a head kick. But it doesn't necessarily mean you shouldn't slip. It all depends on the scenario and who you are fighting.
Would you be able to make tactics by Dustin Porier, Frankie Edgar, Chad Mendes, Robbie Lawler and Chael Sonnen.
