I grew up at 16 yrs old in the Chicago suburbs working at a BMW dealer. My boss liked me and trusted me and let me learn to drive stick on his 88 BMW M5. Also drove an orange 635 CSI with gold bbs wheels, the 850s and 93 M3s new - at 16. Also drove a Shelby replica AC Cobra and a 67 Corvette Stingray convertible. Years later after moving to Los Angeles working for a company I found out my customer was Carroll Shelby and got a private viewing of his collection there. I love cars. I love older BMWs.

That is a stunning E28! I have an E39 as my daily and an E30 that I lusted after for 25 years and I adore both of them. It's getting harder and harder to find these gems (especially with a manual transmission), but I love to see examples like this. You cannot beat older (2004 and older for me) BMW's for classically beautiful styling and a drivng experience that has to be experienced for yourself, you just can't explain to someone how good they are. I love that analog feel when everything is going digital these days. And a crack free dash?!?! That is about as common as a unicorn!

I drove it everywhere all over Germany & sold it for as much as I paid for it. My second BMW was a 94 530i with that same M60 V8 but with an auto & I was in love. Awesome car! I'm more of a Benz guy myself, I do agree with you the E28 is probably one of the most elegant saloons ever. And it sure was more of a driver's car than a Benz of that era. When I was 21, I stood on the showroom floor of a BMW dealership in Detroit. I will never forget that evening nor the vehicle that has forever captivated me! A 1988 BMW M5! Absolutely everything you spoke to in your vid is spot on! It is one of the most beautiful vehicles ever made. The 3, 6 and 7 series vehicles from this epic lineup in the 1980’s are also stellar in their styling and build…the e28 somehow always floats to the pinnacle of their styling at this very special moment in time near 40 years ago. I wonder if you like M-B 124s? They are quite lovely as well. Lastly, you have to get these vehicles in euro spec with the shallow set bumpers! Just wicked, the car you spotlighted!

Slow, but I like it that way. It has a certain attitude in the way it initially dives into the turns like no other vehicle, ever!
And with the way it absorbs bumps, I feel like it was the best 5grand ever spent on any vehicle purchase I’ve ever made. Btw, 37mpg hwy mileage out of a gas 6 cylinder…hmmm, how come you don’t see that in any modern 6 ?

My neighbor owned an 88 M5 when I was in college. Every single time I saw him drive it, I was absolutely transfixed by it mann. Years later, one of my buddies owned an 86 535is that I actually drove and I was hooked. I've been mysteriously drawn to these cars since my graduation from high school wayy back in 1983. A new Buick dealership in Philly had a 79 733i on their lot for sale as a used car trade and I foolishly thought I could convince my Pops into assisting me in buying it and he told me no way. Upkeep & maintenance repairs would be wayy too expensive for me to handle. All the right reasons. Today, I own an 86 M635Csi as part of my small personal collection. I'll never sell it. I still do hope to some day add an E28 5. Thanks again for the great content. #respect

I’ve been following you since you were a little ways into the Ferrari build, but never paid much attention to videos that weren’t part of the build series. That was a mistake. The production, editing and writing are top notch. I’ll be going back through your profile again. Thanks for the dope content!

I'm a big BMW fan, mostly of the 90s and 00s but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Love the presentation.

Please absolutely make more videos like this. I absolutely love the E28 platform. This particular example is perfection. I've been watching your progress for some time now. Please bring in more old school flavor. Sr. 7. E28. E30, etc. More analog Germans, please!

I've got a modified E28 with an S50 under the hood. It doesn't get much attention or many miles put on the odometer after I picked up a Focus RS as my daily a few years back. I've been considering selling the E28 for a while now, but this video gave my car a reprieve from the chopping block. Great video and motivation to take care of minor annoyances to get my car back to daily driver readiness.

E28 has always been a sleek sleeper. The best part of the video is the burnout intro. Brake, Gas, and Clutch equal tire smoke.

Cheers Buddy for that, you just reduced me to tears 😢. Back in 98 l was going to buy a beautiful met mid blue E28 525i lux on a 1987 plate for £1550. It had the smallest of oil leaks and I bottle out. Always one of my biggest regrets 😞 😪. Good video guys.

Love the old 5s, but I saw a 7 like earlier in the vid and stopped and took photos, it was just THAT well put together. Used to drift an E21 long ago, that shark nose blood ran through them all at this age. Damn I miss proper cars.

Great vid, great car. Had an E28 a few years ago, only the 2.0 but it was a straight 6 and it revved hard, manual box too. Some bellend ran into the rear and wrote it off.

Great video quality as usual. No matter what kind of video you put out they are great. I always check RUclips every morning to see if you’ve posted a video because I can’t seem to get enough. Keep it up.

Elegant and understated are the perfect words. I've wanted an E28 for a very long time, came very close to buying one about a decade ago, had cash in hand at the asking price but the guy couldn't bring himself to let it go. Maybe in the future I'll get another chance. Jeremy has done a great job with this build, aside from the engine swap it's a lot of the same vision I had for the one I'd like. Thanks for the video!

Beautiful. I 1000% agree with you. The e28 is also my favorite. I’d love an e12. Currently own an e39 M5. Currently being rebuilt by Edge Motor Works in Fremont, California.

Great review! Great car! I had an E28 528 back in the days in Europe. Purchase in Dusseldorf and drove it back to the UK via Ostende (Belgium). As solid as a rock - The build quality was and still is legendary. I love the windshield view - large windshield. This model had tons of space and felt that way. Probably the most beautiful dashboard I have seen. Not cluttered with large dials for the tachometer. Yes, I agree - they should make them like this. I absolutely hate the way the new BMWs sound - like sewing machines :)

Awesome video Mike! Stoked on the idea that you'll be sharing other people's cars on the channel, like the blog but in video form. As for input, my all time favourite RUclips car content is the Petrolicious videos where the owner talks about their story with the car - the ones that always had 'My name is... and I drive a...' Maybe you could add an element of that to your videos, would have been cool to hear what this car means to Jeremy himself on this video. Just a thought. As always though, excellent work!
