Contrary to what's stated in the original comment, the kanji character for "kurenai" 紅 can be and is used to mean "red" regardless of any reference to X Japan's song of that title. It's not used "instead" of "red" - it IS "red". In classical Japanese literature "kurenai" is commonly used for "red". The character for "dawn" "akatsuki" 暁 mentioned by NomaD has a different etymology.

Babymetal was originated in the Japanese idol school Sakura Gakuin. It was started as a school club which J-pop girls were trained to sing and perform heavy metal music. Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-metal) was the designated lead singer, Moa and Yui auditioned into the club as the backup singer, dancer and screamer. Babymetal had their first club performance in late 2010 (Su was in 7th grade, Moa and Yui were in 5th grade). Usually in a public performance by idol school students, the audience are families, friends and neighbors. However the Babymetal club was able to attract more and more metal music lovers to their show. They started to have their own shows in 2012 and in 2013 they had the first successful performance outside of Japan in Singapore. When Su-metal graduated from Sakura Gakuin, the students did not know if the Babymetal club will continue in the idol school. Later the record company converted Babymetal into a professional performing group consists of Su-metal, Yui-metal, and Moa-metal.

I found BabyMetal a day before I found Band-Maid last February 2020 and immediately boughth a BabyMetal DVD which I put on the back burner until last month. I now have all of Band-Maid including their latest single as of 10/31/21. Now I have 9-11 BabyMetal DVDs and love them. They are still blowing my mind. This is Su-metal, aka Suzuka Nakamoto, and she was 16 for this performance. Her command of the stage is astonishing, and she is so fierce. Offstage her personality is a bit goofy but in front of a band she transforms. Akatsuki in pronounced with the u silent (akatski). Translated to English it means Dawn. In the west Akatsuki was popularized in the Japanese Manga and Anime Naruto. Great reaction. Akatsuki is one of their best songs and that is a pretty good version of it. But don't worry they have so many great songs you won't run out very soon. I recommend 'iJime dame zettai' live at sonisphere 2014, 'headbanger' live at legend of 1997 or the 'Megitsune' official music video. If you want to see their first ever song when they were super young then 'Doki Doki Morning' official music video. If you want to see them all grown up then 'pa pa ya' or 'elevator girl' music videos.
Such a powerful group. There are three ... One did leave the group for personal reasons and there is a lot more vocal backing than there was in the earlier days. This song was very clear but it shows on newer gigs. They have two huge shows like this to make videos and tour in smaller halls or as opening acts as a bare group with various musicians. They are employed by Amuse Ink with One OK Rock and Perfume leading the way. If you get a chance check them out. It is a serious professional act that is unique and much needed. A lot of info. on this already, so I'll try to keep it brief and summarize what most have said. First, just a quick correction (we have all done it) to the name of the song. It is pronounced "Akat-ski". The reason for this is that in several Japanese words they have silent letters, like we do in English. Sometimes you'll drop a "u", or an "o" in the word. The name BABYMETAL was done for multiple reasons. One is obvious because of the age of the girls when they started as compared to normal metal bands that start later. They were formed when the lead singer was 12 (almost 13), and the two dancers/background singers, who weren't in this video, were 11. The other reason for the name is because this was a whole new genre of metal called "Kawaii" metal or "cute" metal, and since baby's are new people why not have it be similar for genres of music? The group is made of up lead singer Suzuka Nakamoto (aka Su-Metal, or just Su), and the dancers/background vocalists Yui Mizuno (aka, Yuimetal) and Moa Kikuchi (aka, Moametal). The band backing them is called the "Kami" Band, or "God" Band and is made up of some of the best session musicians in Japan. We fans are called "The One". You'll hear/see/read a lot of references to foxes, the fox hole, the fox god, etc. That is because there is a whole lore their manager set-up around them to give a cool backstory and it centers around the fox god, or "kitsune kami" in Japanese. You should definitely watch their live performances because they are the most lively, hard-hitting, and easily have the best vocals. Su-chan isn't called the Meatl Queen for nothing. She's just great! BTW she does her solos to give Yui and Moa a break and vice versa Yui and Moa perform as Black Babymetal without Su to give her a break (you cannot probably dance like them for a whole show, that's why). Most songs however are with all three girls together. Babymetal is awesome in all possible ways. The musicians are hella good as are the girls and their performances, as you will see if you react to more, and please prefer life shows, they are much better. And NO, they are not called Babymetal cuz they are young. It's a pun, cuz heavymetal and babymetal are almost the same in japanese writing (katakana) cuz heavymetal in japanese is he-bi-me-ta-ru and babymetal is be-bi-me-ta-ru. I don't think she knows about Yui, or Moa yet. I think this is her first time hearing babymetal. Krizz, you should maybe try listening to Road of Resistance or Karate next so you can see the other girls as well. Also at some point in time, you REALLY need to listen to No Rain, No Rainbow. In 2019 they sold-out the LA Forum, other arenas are Wembley Arena, London, set record for merchandise sold, Tokyo Dome 2 nights running, capacity 55,000 and each night was a different concert. Yui the original 3rd member left the band for health reasons.

babymetal is a play on the words "heavy metal", as, in Japanese, the word "baby" (ベビー bebī) rhymes with "heavy" (ヘビー hebī),so it just a puns to use baby instead of hebi,its nothing to do with their age..well kitsune up 🤟🦊🤟

Babymetal was originated in the Japanese idol school Sakura Gakuin. It was started as a school club which J-pop girls were trained to sing and perform heavy metal music. Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-metal) was the designated lead singer, Moa and Yui auditioned into the club as the backup singer, dancer and screamer. Babymetal had their first club performance in late 2010 (Su was in 7th grade, Moa and Yui were in 5th grade). Usually in a public performance by idol school students, the audience are families, friends and neighbors. However the Babymetal club was able to attract more and more metal music lovers to their show. They started to have their own shows in 2012 and in 2013 they had the first successful performance outside of Japan in Singapore.
When Su-metal graduated from Sakura Gakuin, the students did not know if the Babymetal club will continue in the idol school. Later the record company converted Babymetal into a professional performing group consists of Su-metal, Yui-metal, and Moa-metal.

I found BabyMetal a day before I found Band-Maid last February 2020 and immediately boughth a BabyMetal DVD which I put on the back burner until last month. I now have all of Band-Maid including their latest single as of 10/31/21. Now I have 9-11 BabyMetal DVDs and love them. They are still blowing my mind. Akatsuki in pronounced with the u silent (akatski). Translated to English it means Dawn. In the west Akatsuki was popularized in the Japanese Manga and Anime Naruto. Great reaction. Su-metal has such a great powerful voice with extraordinary stage presence and crowd control. Su-metal is so sweet in interviews but has the best death stare in all of metal.

Akatsuki is one of their best songs and that is a pretty good version of it. But don't worry they have so many great songs you won't run out very soon. I recommend 'iJime dame zettai' live at sonisphere 2014, 'headbanger' live at legend of 1997 or the 'Megitsune' official music video.

Such a powerful group. There are three ... One did leave the group for personal reasons and there is a lot more vocal backing than there was in the earlier days. This song was very clear but it shows on newer gigs. They have two huge shows like this to make videos and tour in smaller halls or as opening acts as a bare group with various musicians. They are employed by Amuse Ink with One OK Rock and Perfume leading the way. If you get a chance check them out. It is a serious professional act that is unique and much needed. A lot of info. on this already, so I'll try to keep it brief and summarize what most have said. First, just a quick correction (we have all done it) to the name of the song. It is pronounced "Akat-ski". The reason for this is that in several Japanese words they have silent letters, like we do in English. Sometimes you'll drop a "u", or an "o" in the word.
The name BABYMETAL was done for multiple reasons. One is obvious because of the age of the girls when they started as compared to normal metal bands that start later. They were formed when the lead singer was 12 (almost 13), and the two dancers/background singers, who weren't in this video, were 11. The other reason for the name is because this was a whole new genre of metal called "Kawaii" metal or "cute" metal, and since baby's are new people why not have it be similar for genres of music?
The group is made of up lead singer Suzuka Nakamoto (aka Su-Metal, or just Su), and the dancers/background vocalists Yui Mizuno (aka, Yuimetal) and Moa Kikuchi (aka, Moametal). The band backing them is called the "Kami" Band, or "God" Band and is made up of some of the best session musicians in Japan. We fans are called "The One". You'll hear/see/read a lot of references to foxes, the fox hole, the fox god, etc. That is because there is a whole lore their manager set-up around them to give a cool backstory and it centers around the fox god, or "kitsune kami" in Japanese.
You should definitely watch their live performances because they are the most lively, hard-hitting, and easily have the best vocals. There are a few live performances with the studio track put over the video, but we can help you navigate through that. This performance was (obviously) a Su-Metal solo.

Su-chan isn't called the Meatl Queen for nothing. She's just great! BTW she does her solos to give Yui and Moa a break and vice versa Yui and Moa perform as Black Babymetal without Su to give her a break (you cannot probably dance like them for a whole show, that's why). Most songs however are with all three girls together. Babymetal is awesome in all possible ways. The musicians are hella good as are the girls and their performances, as you will see if you react to more, and please prefer life shows, they are much better. And NO, they are not called Babymetal cuz they are young. It's a pun, cuz heavymetal and babymetal are almost the same in japanese writing (katakana) cuz heavymetal in japanese is he-bi-me-ta-ru and babymetal is be-bi-me-ta-ru. The only difference are 2 apostrophes above 1st syllable. And OK the name of course fits too, but that's only reason two...
I don't think she knows about Yui, or Moa yet. I think this is her first time hearing babymetal. Krizz, you should maybe try listening to Road of Resistance or Karate next so you can see the other girls as well. Also at some point in time, you REALLY need to listen to No Rain, No Rainbow. You'll really get an appreciation for how powerful her voice is. She has so much emotion in that song, and it isn't uncommon to tear up listening to that song. Anyhow, really loved that reaction!
