  • Join us as we catch Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad's 489 as it passes through the Los Pinos Valley in Colorado. After making a stop at the water tank, it continues on toward Cumbres Pass and Chama, New Mexico.

      Yes, it is now oil-fired.

    If it weren't for the cabins, this scene could easily be from 1881.

      Pretty much the rest of the route is exactly as it was back then.

    This view looks like a Toy Train on someone's layout, but I know it's Real because I rode on that train many years ago!!!

    As much as I love coal burners, I think oil burning locomotives are very interesting because of the way they operate especially Rio Grande Narrow Gauge Oil Burners

      Yes, the Rio Grande narrow gauge oil burners were very unique, and I agree that they are quite fascinating.
