Leslie West studio video with Joe Bonamassa Trade Guitar Licks. Joe Bonamassa and Leslie West trade licks and vocals on the song "Third Degree", an Eddie Boyd/Willie Dixon blues classic. The song will be on Leslie West - Unusual Suspects out September 19 on Provogue Records
A great guitarist jamming with another great guitarist from an earlier era . Both inspirational , talented and legends in the same studio . What’s not to like ? RIP Leslie West , one of my all time favourite musicians ! Mountain were AWESOME and LW was it’s heart and soul ! 🎸🎸🎸
Leslie was a pioneer in rock and roll. When misissippi queen came out we were clean the beatles out of our ears so to speak. He was so ahead of his time like Hendrix. He was a visionary. RIP Leslie. Prayers to his family.
Leslie, just jumps in at anytime he wants and improvises. Joe is just an awesome guy. They play great together. I love them both.
Two guitar gods, yet, in keeping with tradition, the camera person and the editor decide to show random things rather than consistently focusing on the playing. Grew up listening to Mr. West, Mountain, and his other bands. RIP
This clip is absolutely PRICELESS. Wonderful to have it posted. Let's hope that Leslie is around for years to come, despite his medical ailments. His influence on these present-day stars is magical. As an ex-clubber, and peer to Leslie's generation, i can only imagine how it must feel for Joe and these other guys to actually be playing with him. Best Rgds.
Leslie's new CD .. still climbing,,is awesome ... Smoking Joe ,, what can you say,, met him in Memphis around 2001 only 15 people in Gibson Lounge.. he rocked,, after the show he shook my hand. Gave me New Day Yesterday and signed it,, we talked for a bit,, very down to earth.. very cool guy..
Man, what could have been. A couple albums, and a live album. Lord have mercy.
Love seeing people in the position to highlight their guitar hero's like this. Joe's obviously on a different level playing but he hasn't written a Mississippi Queen yet either and he won't but that's ok. Respect
Interesting point Freddy, I love Leslie West and his bandmates over the years. Especially Jack Bruce and Felix, Corky Lange is a God, just a wonderful drummer and person. But to your comment I wondered why there's no iconic JB hit song? Bonamassa is a gifted incredible guitarist, f--ker sings pretty good too! I think it's because Joe has immersed himself in learning note for note the classic rock and blues artists he heard from his Dad's records growing up. Maybe he just didn't or doesn't have time to come up with one? Seriously! Or maybe it's Joe Bonamassa's way of showing respect to the artists he's emulated? Like those guy's already have written the best music already, why bother? As Leslie West said at the end of Joe's solo," Fuck you Joe"😂😂😂 Now that's a compliment!
Loved you when we met in Forest Hills and you were the lead guitar player for the Vagrants. Miss you...but you did lead a great life giving great music to us all.....love, Margaret
Two of my favorite guitar players in one song, yaay!
We loved having you guys at NightBird! Looking forward to the next one :)
i love the beginning no matter how successful and influential u are, playing over each other so it sound like shit never stops
Just goes to show...it's in the fingers (and who you are)...West is light years beyond~
R.I.P. MR. West. You will be missed. F*** 2020
Joe is no sludge
Lovely in to hear them together
Good to see Leslie back in circulation.
WONDERFUL CLIP!!! Thank you for posting this gem!!
It's Jump Right In Joe! Awesome!
The stuff legends are made of...
At 2:14 The look on Leslie's face is worth the price of admission. That lick is a direct hit from the LP, as Leslie snaps his head toward Bonamassa.
That lady in the background was leslie's wife jenny,a legend RIP leslie west
RIP Leslie.
joe is such a down to earth guy, u have to like him. Leslie is a nut, i mean that in a good way, just listen to his appearances on the howard stern show1990's
Thanks.......
OMFG cant wait to get my hands on this cd....true inspiration
They made it look easy
That was incredibly great God bless you Leslie worst good job Joe

Third Degree off of West Bruce and Lange , Why Dontcha Album ...
Is it just me or does Joe's guitar have a lot of buzz at the 30 second mark?
Joe need new cap, Somebody loan him a dime
Just riding the Coat Tails of the Greats
"I took the the two fat strings off, I didnt know what to do with them" love that!
so is a shot of smack..but there are still millions of people who love it to death.and always will.must be a matter of individual taste id say...if it rocks you down to the lower regions of your soul , then predictable is a very cool thing to count on....
Really seemed like Leslie was holding back.. almost as if they weren’t really looking to jam/collaborate
Stop cursing in front of Joe. He doesn't use curse words. Thank you for the past Leslie.
***** Lol. Thanks Jon. It's so rare to hear Joe cuss.
just goes to show you dont need a real 59 les paul to make music
Lesley a bad, no the badest guitarist!!!
i dont like bonamassa. i dont like what he plays, i dont like how he plays, i dont like his sound, i find it totally boring like any other premium shredder.. But Leslie West , yum.
Bonamassa a shredder? Oh okay.
Wow...this is b4 he lost his leg.
RIP, Leslie West.
I've viewed this about 20 times over the years and never get tired of it. I remember buying Joe's New Day Yesterday and wondered how he morphed into LW during 'If Heartaches Were Nickles', then read the liner notes. Yep, It WAS Leslie!!!
Good friends for years.
One of the best ever! Playing with another great guitarist! Mr. West may he Rest In Peace! I loved you man!
Much respect for Leslie & been following Joe from his early material on, two of the greats!
Awesome! Two guitar monsters tearing it up! Don't get no better than this!
Joe Bonamassa always find these odd ball blues runs that only he can do thats why hes amazing
RUclips needs to date stamp this stuff
Never heard Joe play...he's top notch
@Pauly Walnutz I'm sure I read about Joe in the guitar magazines. I just didn't take the step of hearing him. I'm blown away finding out in the comments Leslie passed.
I'll listen to his cover of Blowing in Wind
Leslie had it going on! RIP 💔
So glad Joe got to work with him. Joe was on fire guitar and voice.🫠♥️
I'm not an expert on discerning guitar styles, but listening to Bonamassa, I hear shades of both Leslie West and Stevie Ray Vaughn in his style. Not surprising he and Les can jam and be on par here with no BS. But West is still king here and Joe must bow to him! (Well, no, he must not, but you get the picture here - wink wink!)
GUITAR GASMIC!!!
The bass player is kicking it too ! Really great job
haha the difference between leslie's voice and joe's
xdid they ever collaborate on anything ...on an album or playing background or going down. That would have been phenomenal
I've listened to Leslie West (and Mountain) for close to 50 years. I really love his finesse and tone. Sure, Joe is a good guitarist and a decent singer...however, speed isn't everything either. Leslie makes his guitar talk or sing as if it were a human voice with such great tone. He's one of my very favorite lead guitar players of all time, probably followed by Eric Clapton. Joe seemingly popped out of nowhere and ended up playing with the who's who of guitar players.
Unfortunately, I am partial to those who influenced Joe - not so much Joe because he is a "Show Off"
. However I do appreciate his talent and what he's doing to keep the blues alive. Otherwise, for some odd reason , I don't personally care for Joe, nor would I buy his albums/CDs or go to see him live. However, that's just my own opinion as a professional musician for 55 years and producer for 45 years. He's just another "copy cat" who learned from the real masters who invented the blues. I'll take Leslie West vs.Joe Bonamassa anyday.
Joe Bonamassa popped out of nowhere? He started playing guitar at age 4.
At 11 years old Bonamassa was mentored and trained by guitar legend Danny Gatton. Bonamassa started his career at age 12, when he opened for B.B. King. He opened for B.B. King at approximately 20 shows in 1989...
In the last 13 years Bonamassa has put out 15 solo albums, of which 11 have reached number 1 on the Billboard Blues charts.
He earned a Grammy Award nomination in 2013. In May 2015 he won a Blues Music Award in the 'Instrumentalist - Guitar' category. In April 2018 Bonamassa's signature amplifier the ‘59 Twin-Amp JB Edition was released by Fender Musical Instruments Corporation.
Cont. at Wikipedia..
(Leslie West and Joe Bonamassa recorded Warren Haynes' "If Heartaches Were Nickels" together. West released it on Guitarded (2005), and Bonamassa on A New Day Yesterday (2000).
R.I.P. Leslie West
And yet I've never heard of you. Why would Leslie and countless other players ask Joe to play with them if he was not a good player. Do yourself a favor and dig a little deeper into Joe, you might be surprised.
joe is just the fucking KING with his les paul strapped on and a mic in front of his face.......aaaawsome
Two of my holy trinity of guitarists
Felix Papallardi was an unsung hero of every musical genre. Felix produced Cream. After the dissolution of Cream, Felix suggested Jack Bruce as his own replacement for touring. West, Bruce, and Laing played Houston and I caught the show. Excellent!!!
Oh....................my God
Joe wished he had Leslie's command of FAT TONE.. they don't call him the Great Fatsby for nothing
James Rockford No one calls him that, and if they did it would be because he's a fat old man.
RIP Leslie...
Love the look on Leslie's face @1:30..... like; "are you fucking kidding me?"
a boring copy cat guitar player getting smoked by a legend🎸🎸🎸
Indeed, I can see a collaboration between these two down the road.
These two guys are cut from the same clothe.
R.I.P. Leslie West
i saw leslie in 1985 and i saw joe in 2006,short answer joe can't hold a candle to leslie,
At 4:10 leslie said we don’t need all those notes joe watch this I’m gonna bring the climax of the song with this one note
♥️
💯🔥
all the hair on my body is standing on end.... Good stuff.
Rest in Heavenly peace Mr. West.
@Chillyfretlesswilly so is classical music....
Two stone geniuses up there.
Fantastic! Unreal!❤
Goose bump overload............
I still love this.
R.IP My man
Joe has turned into a little school boy 'guitar hero geek' here. Right...right...right! Loz
0:35 LOL
LOVE this! Awesome...
BORING
SUPER

Majic!!!!
Joe rules
Joe rocks alright, but if SRV survived that helicopter crash, Joe wouldn't be sheeeit, admit it.
Re: Joe Bonamassa: A direct quote from those expert critics who chose the TOP 5 Blues Guitar Players today: (And I agree!) : "To be in the top 5 in any list, a guitarist has to bring something NEW to the table. The only way Bonamassa qualifies to be in the TOP 5 of this list is if this list is based on the MOST impressive guitar / amp collection...
Joe is a very gifted guitar player BUT "he shows off 100% of the time he’s playing"! He takes showing his talents way above playing with the band or even resembling a Blues lick. He has great talent but no soul! It’s a disgrace to the other guitarist by being on this point list! (See my next post below):
What is an "expert critic?" Most of these expert critics who criticize Bonamassa have never played a live gig in their life and are more interested with the perceived mythology of blues than the actual craft and musicianship.
That might be one of the most uneducated critiques I've ever heard in my life regardless of what moron thought it up.
Joe B... "Leslie, look at me, look at me, look at me. I'm so much faster, louder and better than you"!
Yep. Joe haters are like a fungus.
R.I.P. Old friend...
