Very well-deserved. She' got a tough competition, but the movie EEAAO was just sooooo phenomenal. A movie that got me LMAO and crying at the same time.

Very well-deserved 🩷 I love when she said "Hello" at the beginning then semi-raised her Oscar as if it's a glass of wine for celebration..so adorable ❤️
She is one of the most phenomenal actors that I've ever seen in my existence. She absolutely deserved best supporting actress when she portrayed her character in Memoirs of a Geisha, and also Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Very well deserved for her. I loved her in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. She’s the second woman of color to win this award in 2023! Wow!!!!!!!! I’m glad for her and I hope she continues on in her excellence ❤🥰😍😘
when Michelle asks if she should make a statement in Cantonese or Mandarin at 6:01 // many non-speakers don't know or realize that she alternates between speaking both dialects throughout EEAAO, not to mention her accent is actually Malaysian [which differs quite much from an American Chinese speaking, or even a Hong Kong-born/ Taiwan-born Chinese] added on by the fact that Michelle grew up not learning how to speak/write Chinese (which is common in Malaysia) and went on to develop it while she grew her career in Hong Kong: she truly has come such a long way in her career as an actress and influential figure not only to us Asians as a whole, but especially to the modern-day Chinese woman like myself. much power to Michelle!
wow I didn't know who she was and now I love her! I loved her speech when she received her Oscar, she is very elegant and well spoken and a great actress....she deserved her trophy! good for her!!!
I wish they would have given her more time for her Oscar’s speech! I hated that she got cut off and didn’t get to finish bc I would have loved for her to say what she said here in her answer to the first question but in her actual Oscar’s speech! They shouldn’t have cut off her speech at the Oscars, this was a historic win! Let her speak, let her have her winning moment! 40 years she waited. She deserves it! A whole continent is celebrating her win, not just one country!

She truly is amazing I was thinking at first she would be too woke but she truly spoke from her heart and for her people and for all minorities not just for medias and for making woke headlines
The Buzzfeed question about whether being a woman of color in an unwelcoming "space" has ever made her consider stepping away from acting (as if her whole acting career has been dependent on the whims of Hollywood) was idiotic, as is much of Buzzfeed's actual content. Yeoh is great, though.
This is ironic. A few years back, with Trump fanning hatred, any chinese walking on the street would be afraid to be beaten up out of nowhere. Today Michelle Yeoh has won an oscar best actress award.
Geez.. a Chinese reporter asking Yeoh to speak to the Asian community in Mandarin. Some groups conform 100% to stereotype, and that's why stereotypes persist.
Michelle was English educated in Main Convent school in Ipoh, Malaysia until she’s 15 and went to London for further study. She doesn’t read Chinese actually.
These questions are so dissapointing and humiliating. İmagine that you win an Oscar for being best actress, but people ask you questions referring to your race, not the questions about your performance or acting. this is kind of racism.
Why is that mainland Chinese asking her to speak in mandarin ?? What about the hk audience that wants to hear her speak in their own dialect too ?? I don’t think it’s fair she is biasing and asking her to speak only mandarin to benefit the China audience . Malaysians also speak Cantonese too

Understand discrimination. But one thing, the Asian population in America has always been relatively tiny, like 4%. America has been a vastly white, European majority for 200+ years. And the Oscars have historically been about American films. I don't get the surprise or sense of injustice. It's like asking why S. Korea doesn't give more awards to American films. It's not discrimination, its demographics.
As of 2020, it’s actually 7.2% of the population which is around 24 million people. I think you’re missing the point slightly, in the 95 years the oscars have run there have only been two non-white women to win best actress and they happened 20 years apart. The oscars is not just an American award show, sure Hollywood is the main focus but it literally touts itself as being the most prestigious /global/ movie awards. Also there is a looooong history of yellow face and racist stereotyping in American films. if mickey rooney can go full WW2 caricature in a deeply beloved film they clearly seem comfortable enough to make fun of asians, just not actually cast them in anything
