Lyle was so underrated. He had great comedic timing
After the first 30 seconds, Lyle and Harvey are both fighting their urge to break character. A real tribute to the ability of the show's writers.

Everyone is always so obsessed with the Miss. Wiggins character( whis is good for sure) however Nora Desmond is my favorite by far!
The over the top campy costuming actually is beyond brilliant and always makes me need my inhaler after watching a skit because of the constant purely genius jokes that still catch me off guard!
As brilliant as Burnett was, Harvey Korman was her equal in every way.

I'll never forget the night Gloria Swanson was in the front row of Carol's studio audience.
She said she enjoyed the Nora Desmond skits and gave her full approval. Such a classy lady!
That's why Carol invited her to be a guest on her show..........
I've heard that the only thing bigger than Swanson's talent was her heart.

I wanted to watch this so badly to laugh, because I know it would make me laugh, and then Lyle walks in. My uncle was his doppelgänger. Even height and build were the same, but my uncle was born in 1953, not 1935. He was only 12 years older than me and passed suddenly in December 2020. He was more like my big brother than an uncle, per se. I just realized I am still very raw emotionally as soon as I saw Lyle, who also passed a few months before my uncle. Now I’m sobbing instead of laughing. 💔

Simply one of the most hysterical characters she's ever portrayed. And I sympathize with her too

It seemed to be an ongoing effort for the cast members to crack each other up, and the audience benefitted from it.

Don't forget her famous Tarzan yell! Probably kept her pipes in top shape. I've loved her all my life. There is no one else like her.

I knew the performers were the greatest, but watching these again, I’m impressed with the caliber of the comedy writing. It all came together.
CAROL, required TV on Sundays. Literally made my dysfunctional family truly laugh . AH GOOD CLEAN FUN. i busted a gut evertime,especially when she did Nora Desmond. Vicki Lawrence, Harvey Korman, & Tim Conway were perfect w CAROL BURNETT.

Epic silliness!! Fun to see some of the last crazy physical humor, now an extinct form. Sometimes they seemed to defy gravity. JOhn Byner and, especially, Harvey Korman are CB's great foils (and, or course, Tim Conway).
It reminds me that those sketches were made in a time where a good number of Silent Era actors were still with us.
My adoration for Nora Desmond will never die!
I remember watching this as a kid & then I saw Sunset Boulevard & finally I fully understood the parody.
First time I've ever seen Harvey crack up without Tim.
Harvey cracked up from Season 1 and many times at Lyle too. Most times Hamilton chose to air the show (they always did a 'dress' first) where he didn't. But with Conway who only cared about making Harvey laugh (which I found tedious) he would deliberately air that one. There was no laughing in the dress shows because Conway played the script. This whole notion that Harvey only laughed with him is absurd. If they would release all the tapings you would see Carol is the one he broke up with the most. And at least I can see why. Never got it with Conway. No laughs. Just waited for the next sketch.
Who knew John Byner could do an impersonation of a duck doing an impersonation of Georgie Jessel!!?? Freaking amazing!!

That plus the grin on Lyle Wagganer's face after the final slap out the door were hilarious...I love the unscripted moments.

Oh man that was funny! Not just the script - but the costumes, including hair or no hair- those poor dangling melons - the over the top slippers, I mean- slappers! Just so gooood! 😂
The so many different sets they had on this show were absolutely amazing.
I remember the first time I watched this sketch with my mom almost 20 years ago. Once the music starts playing and John Byner sings, "We are gathered here today...," we lost it.
This is true talent and intertament ….miss it …was the best and I still think is so so funny.

John Byner doing impression the famous old Toastmaster person, George Jessel.. who was head of all Roasts and tributes back in the day.. DEAD on Impression.. This sketch was very loose.. so inventive.. the writing was ok, but the inventiveness of the performers made this sketch work.. John was a great sketch player.. ONe of my fav Nora Desmond sketches..

Good question. I had to check dates, but see Mary Pickford was still living (mentioned at 3:35), was wondering if she saw this,; saw any humor in it? There were still many Silent Film actresses living at this time, have wondered what they thought (I know Gloria Swanson loved it).
