Got this game for Christmas in 1997, after being a fan of Virtua Figher, Fightijg Vipers, and Sonic. It was the preset I wanted most and I was so happy when I opened it!
Fun fact, this game is shown in one of the Hajime no Ippo movies with a fake name and saturn console, yet they show the characters with their actual designs!
I’ve always loved this game and still play it regularly. It gets major props for playing Outruns Last Wave song at the name entry screen. Classic Sega.
SEGA should just release an AM2 fighting game collection where it includes Virtua fighter 1- 4 with all the expansion and spin offs, Fighting vipers 1 n 2, Last Bronx, Fighters Megamix and Sonic the Fighters. All should have online play with rollback netcode which they already figured out with VF5REVO. Some cool side content also would be cool like gallery art and music player.
However it looks like there's little motivation for retro 3d fg releases compared to retro 2d fg releases. It never really happened in the main 3d franchises... except with SC2 once, but it was a single game and not a collection. I don't know the reason, actually I wish an interviewer asked them about that. Meanwhile Capcom and SNK are crazy about rereleasing old games actually since the PS2 gen, and basically every generation gets a bunch of new ports or collections since then.
Being a huge Virtua fighter and Fighter Viper fan i was pumped to get this when it came out back in the day! My friends and I played it a bunch and got alot of laughs from the joke characters but also had some great fights with the main cast. One of my favorite fighters still go back from time to time, FANTASTIC GAME!!
So funny. I grew up on the Saturn. Fighters megamix... Burning Rangers, blast chamber.... Using the skey on the back of the console to play forgien versions of xmen vs street fighter... Those were good times
I thought you were talking about Ehrgeiz. That was the weirdest crossover fighter for a long time. Not good, but definitely weird. Final Fantasy fighting games is probably it's own topic at this point. Great video Khan!
@carlosaugusto9821 Fighters Megamix is also about a thousand times better than Ehrgiez. Sega had some people who really loved the games they made and went the extra mile. That's probably why we're talking about them all these years later.
My joint favourite fighter of all time, closely next to Virtua Fighter 3. Never enjoyed a fighter so much equally in both single and multiplayer, it felt like a SEGA party every time you loaded it up. This game was the one that actually got me to commit to buying the Saturn.
Funny how Sega beat Super Smash Bros to the punch with having their IPs crossover in a fighting game... though on that note, SNK beat Sega to the punch with King of Fighters. 0:34 - Just make sure you're experiencing the Saturn version rather than the Gamecom version. 1:43 - Odd choice to have Evade not only be a button but also separate from the sidestep command. I guess Sega really wanted to use as many of those face buttons of the Saturn controller. 3:14 - Gosh, that roster is just insane to look at. Also hilarious that the Sega Crossover fighting game doesn't feature Sonic. 4:02 - In an alternative timeline, Alolan Exeggutor was a playable character in Smash. 6:20 - The differing arcade courses is real neat. The set characters make it an interesting way to learn match-ups for your chosen character. 9:15 - For an early 3D fighter, it's interesting to see how they managed different level design that actually mattered rather than merely being aesthetically different. The combination of Virtual Fighter and Fighting Vipers and allowing the style to coexist is really well handled. 11:14 - Oooh, really high acclaim then. Funny how such a Sega love-letter appeared right in the middle of the Saturn's life rather than at it's end. 12:50 - Oh, in Japan, there were most definitely over 600,000 Saturn owners. From what I've heard, until Final Fantasy 7 came about, the Saturn was outselling the PlayStation over there. The system came 2nd there, beating out the N64. 13:42 - Real shame about Fighting Vipers. Honestly, whilst I've never had the chance to experience the series, it's presentation and mechanics would have me far more excited for it to be revived than Virtual Fighter (though to be fair, my only experience of Virtual Fighter was the Mega Drive version).
KOF was the first crossover fg, but it was so old that SNK was probably influenced by the general developer mindset of that time to make it a pretty normal crossover. But there's a fair chance that SSB had a bit of influence from this game's wackiness. I even believe that SSB's popularity and wacky style must have influenced the decision of weird ideas for SNK's SVC Chaos, from 2003 (after SSBM), like Mars People, Red Arremer, Zero, etc... the kind of choice that display a mindset that's different from the mindset of the making of KOF. And that style must also have influenced Capcom's TVC and MvC3, that got much more wacky than MvC1.
Urubahn is POG (I didn't realise he was in this game until I played Project X Zone haha) Would love if this game ever had an official port, a very unique cast not even factoring in the playable car lmao
I came across this game while looking for games to play on a Saturn I got with a Saroo flash cartridge last year. As you say the game is great, but I REALLY wish there was an option to have random opponents. I'm so used to that in fighting games. VF2 doesn't have it but VF Kids does. DOA on Saturn has an unlockable random characters option but still fixed stages (which I don't mind as much). Anyway, great game, just wish you weren't always fighting characters in a set order. At least there's more than one order in the form of courses though.
3:42 I wonder if the new Part Time Hero feature in Yakuza 7 and 8 is a reference to this game. Seems like it wouldn't be a coincidence that a new Sega game has a hero for hire system.
I love this game. Never can't get enough of it. Also, i see some emulation screen glitch, but it's playable nonetheless. Also, I've unlocked Palm Tree on the save file and i was so tired after this.
If Sega ever made another but broader crossover fighter 8id like them to call it Fighters Segamix. But Megamix 2 is fine for just focusing on the 3d fighting IP lol. They gotta get Last Bronx characters up in that piece though
I really would love to play this game. Damn shame AAA studios don't really like to make these wacky and absurd much these days. There are a few but I love more games like Fighter's Mega Mix. At least the indie scene if filling the niche of wacky and experimental games. But come on. I so play a game with a Nascar fighting a palm tree
The view that Sega Saturn was a commercial or financial failure is incorrect it sold very well in japan if it wasn’t for Bernie Stoler insisting on pushing 3d games like darkstalkers 3 and X-men vs Streetfighter would have had U.S. Saturn releases ones that would have outsold the inferior PlayStation ports we got in the U.S.
It’s the closest we got to VF3 on Saturn with the side step and Janet basically has Aoi’s moveset
Got this game for Christmas in 1997, after being a fan of Virtua Figher, Fightijg Vipers, and Sonic. It was the preset I wanted most and I was so happy when I opened it!
13:22 There is SOME legacy to this game! It was referenced in 2012 in the game Project X Zone as the reason Akira and Bahn know each other!
The Palm tree would totally destroy the Daytona Car
The powerscaling discussion that all must take part in.
nah, MR. MEAT can beat em both
The scaling from one casual match isn't even enough to say that Mr. Meat is multi-country level.
So true.
Have you ever seen a car ram into a tree?
Tree wins most of those match-ups.
Fighters Megamix, the only fighting game where you can play as a car and a palm tree. Bundle of joy!
10:52 Sakura Wars spotted OMG
Sakura Wars is fun!
Miss Sakura War cameo real
This game is the reason I went to Japan to buy a SEGA Saturn with Fighters Megeamix.
Fun fact, this game is shown in one of the Hajime no Ippo movies with a fake name and saturn console, yet they show the characters with their actual designs!

3:51 for the palm tree, one of my favorite bonus characters in fighting games.
So funny. I grew up on the Saturn. Fighters megamix... Burning Rangers, blast chamber.... Using the skey on the back of the console to play forgien versions of xmen vs street fighter... Those were good times
i had this game back in the day.. i was a big sega fan in the 90s.. i had genesis, game gear, 32X, saturn, and dreamcast
Based Killer7 enjoyer!
This fells like a old 3D Mugen that Sega Maded for Fun lol
Great Engrish!!
That is pretty much what it is. If i remember the development story correctly anyway
This game is a Sega enjoyer essential, glad you covered it
Screw virtual fighter 6, we need a sequel to fighters mega mix!
I thought you were talking about Ehrgeiz. That was the weirdest crossover fighter for a long time. Not good, but definitely weird. Final Fantasy fighting games is probably it's own topic at this point.
Great video Khan!
This one is much weirder. But if you are focusing on the gameplay system, then ok. This one at least has a traditional camera.
@carlosaugusto9821 Fighters Megamix is also about a thousand times better than Ehrgiez. Sega had some people who really loved the games they made and went the extra mile. That's probably why we're talking about them all these years later.
I ♥ FMM! It was awesome and had so much content!
Sega needs to go a head and release a Sega Saturn Collection with this, the Panzer Dragon Trilogy, Burning Rangers, etc.
My joint favourite fighter of all time, closely next to Virtua Fighter 3.

Fighters Megamix truly needs a recompiled PC port with roll netcode!
Ima sega fanatic
Had this back in 97' and I still play it from time to time
I had this game as a kid, I remember getting Bean and thinking I could maybe unlock Sonic somehow, but he was never there
Fighters Megamix :
32 fighters
June 1997
Sega Saturn
14:41 When your main catches strays just for daring to be quirky.
Give her a break, she dressed herself better than KOF 14 at least.
Fighters Megamix feels like 3D M.U.G.E.N.
Urubahn is POG (I didn't realise he was in this game until I played Project X Zone haha)
Would love if this game ever had an official port, a very unique cast not even factoring in the playable car lmao
They sold millions of Saturns in Japan, so the install base was pretty huge there
Always wanted this as a kid
If I could have afforded it, I doubt I’d have been able to find it
I spent countless hours playimg this on my Saturn but I dropped it like a stone when Last Bronx came out.
I loved this game back in the day!
The AM2 palmtree looks uncannily like the Pixar lamppost

AM2 palm tree is new to me, WOW
This game walked so Robot/Kaiju Beatdown on PC could run 😅😂
Was named as vf2 remix on segas coming soon in 96 list
This is already installed on my anbernic arc d 😂

If this was never made, we’d never have Smash Bros.
Research is your friend…

1:25 Capcom’s*
