As a singer, musician, book writer and illustrator . . . few people living today can be so versatile in creativity and of merit. He was/is talent which the unenlightened masses are regrettably unaware of during this era. Word of mouth, person to person, is the best thanks that we can give to - for Mr. Nilsson, perpetuating him, his vision and mission to entertain.
I love this part of story - I've loved it ever since I was small enough to ask "mama, what does 'decompose' mean?". The Point is absolutely one of my favorites, and I don't think I'll ever outgrow it. When I was 3, we had it on 8-track, and now it's on my iPod!
The Pointed Man: "A point in every direction is the same as, as no point at all". The Rockman:"you see what you want to see, & you hear what you want to hear". POIGNANT!
Harry Nilsson is just fantastic. The Point to me was one of the great philosophical pieces set to music. We see what we want to see and hear what we want to hear.... but we just don't get THE POINT.
At that point, Oblio had been deemed to have no point whatsoever, hence, off to the Pointless Forest with ye... so they said...he, at one point, was me, and at another, you...but, that's a different point altogether...dig?

Those Harry Nilsson lyrics are about confirmation bias. People accept or reject information according to whether that information confirms or disputes their existing biases/beliefs. We hear and see what we want to hear and see and reject what we don't want to hear and see - based on what we already believe. Confirmation bias is good for a species survival because it allows for quick decisions. For instance, the belief that touching fire is always bad, is automatically accepted, you don't even have to think about it. On the other hand, CB is not good because it leads to false beliefs like 4,000+ different religions. There is absolutely zero evidence of supernatural or 'spiritual' beings, yet people are willing to kill and die to defend or impose their irrational beliefs on others.

The segment with The Rockman has always been my favorite; " You boys been goofin' wit the bees?"
And thank you for posting this series. I didn't even know there was a version narrated by Nilsson. This is gold.

I love the Rock Man - I can't wait
My superstepdad bought albums and it spoke to me... I was lucky to have such good music.
Harry, you are brilliant.

I had forgotten how much fun this is. I was given the album years ago.
This brings back so many memories
The time it takes to go to the pointless forest is in direct proportion to the time it takes to turn the record over
this way...--- we get to listen to this ... --- bee goofing --,..of what we want.
Funny how everything comes back 'round in a circle...with many points in between. :)
oh Pointless Forest is where Not Pointed People go
