Please STOP destroying LA history !!!
Totally agree!
American* These locusts are everywhere.
then buy it and run with the maintenance costs....
@@camilogomezkeep2324 Exactly. The house was built in 1929, so it's 95 years old. Marilyn only owned it for 4 months before committing suicide in the home. Now it has to be a shrine to her? Ridiculous.
It was owned by her for nearly seven months, and whether she committed suicide or not has not been positively determined. The term used at the time was “probable suicide”. Theodore Curphey, the Los Angeles County coroner, was a corrupt official as was Chief Parker of the LAPD. Both had mob connections. This makes what Curphey said suspicious.
The state probably should have put it as a historic landmark YEARS ago.
Kardashian should pay for the move since she ruined Marilyn's dress...
BETTY WHITES HOME WENT THROUGHT HE SAME THING
THE NEW PEOPLE BUILT A MEGA HOUSE AFTER HERS WAS DESTROYED
UNREAL
According to Ripley's who owns the dress she did not ruin it. They said it was returned in the same good condition she received it. One single person tried to say she ruined it and it spread like wildfire. As lies always do.
@@shood35They don’t mean she physically ruined it.
@@shood35 Not true, many experts have done reports on the before/after condition of the dress. Pictures don't lie. Of course Ripley's is going to say that they are ones #$%& up. It was a very historical dress. As any expert will tell you, NO ONE is allowed to wear historically significant clothing, ever.
Hell yes!!!!!!
Why would someone buy a beautiful iconic house like that only to destroy it? Looks like greed and spite to me. I hope the city saves it.
They bought it; they own it. Let someone tell you what to do with something you purchase outright...
It has a new owner... LA should own it anyway 😂 instead 😂 she's not a hero or saint btw.
Because it’s been gutted several times and nothing of the original home remains. CBS won’t interview the current owner.
beats me, i was thinking same thing, LA is full of homes to buy, so why buy a iconic one just to ruin it. This is not just a house its a legend and part of LA history, i think places like these should be protected.
@@deealex1402The land is worth more than the house.
What did you expect you bought a famous celebrity home..Now you can't stand the attention..
Not cool. Leave the house alone.
How is it possible this home doesn't have landmark status?
The whole piece is 3 minutes long and they couldn't keep it on topic
I read this comment while the Happy Days theme song played 😂😂
This house should be made into a museum of her life
Stop destroying historic buildings and homes.
SHAME on that buyer for wanting to tear down this house! STOP them doing it! SAVE Marilyn's house! God knows there are enough people in LA who have PLENTY of money to save it!
I am sure the new owners were made aware by the realtor that the home was once owned by Marilyn Monroe. So to now complain the tourist attraction is a nuisance is ridiculous argument. Leave the house alone.
LA is a whole tourist attraction. Go live somewhere else!
Beyond being Marilyn Monroe's home, it is a beautiful home with lovely, serene gardens. Even without the history, I would think someone would love to make it their own home to live in.
I would hate to see that house destroyed. It should be conserved as a historical landmark. It is a gorgeous home, I can’t imagine wanting to destroy it particularly with its history.
should have had the hot dog stand as a separate segment
Marilyn did like a good hot dog 🤣
@@jessegarcia2060president's hot dog
Exactly.
Please save this house; if only because it is so beautiful. I was just wondering what was going on with this home and the attempt to demolish it. Thanks for the update!
Many rich people think they should always get what they want. Let this be an example of the opposite.
They knew the house belonged to Marilyn Monroe and that people would go to see it. If they didn't want that then why did they buy it? 🙄
The home is hidden. They knew what they were purchasing. Too bad. Sell it back to LA and buy something else. This is so sad, but typical.
Meh
Their house and they should be able to do whatever they want with it.
Time to move on
I agree with you.
She’s dead and it is their house.
Time to move on
Hollywood was built on Marilyn Monroe they should have marked it historical years ago but who ever thought someone billionaires who could have bought any other house on this earth would buy this house only to destroy it!! Shame on them there not fans and have zero sense of history
What the heck with the sudden hot dog A.D.D. lunch moment thrown in at the end, then it just ends? 🤣🤣🤣
Greed destroys history?
Why can’t those greedy people just buy another house?
That house into a monument .
Because the house has been gutted several times and there’s nothing left of the original home.
@@NemeanLion- Untrue. The interior has been renovated but it's still the original house otherwise.
@@emmapeelible Then the homeowners are lying because they said there isn’t even one chip of paint left from when Monroe owned it. And no, they don’t declare a home a landmark if just the exterior is left. you have to preserve the character of the home, inside and out.
The “new owners” live next door and want to combine the properties. It was aired on Million dollar listings Los Angeles. They were told of the significance. Obviously they don’t care.
This reminds me of the Gabor Estate in Holmby Hills. Built in the 1930's by a famous architect it was owned variously by David Niven, Audrey Hepburn, Sinatra and finally Eva Gabor. It was bought by a developer and demolished around 2019 before a Protection Order could be put on it.
If the conservation group wants to preserve it so much, where were they when it was for sale?
Does it really matter?
@@juliethompson8685It does matter, they should have spent their own money instead of demanding the new owner how to spend theirs..
That's my question as well.
@@kikilindsey5543 conservancy’s are usually non profit. It’s possible they didn’t have the funds for it. My question is the owners had to know what they were buying and knew the draw and attention it attracts. If I like my privacy I wouldn’t buy a famous home.
Who ever thought the buyer would want to erase it??? Nobody normal would buy that house to pull it down!
We learned nothing from Penn station
Relocate her home and turn it into a museum.
Well, yes, but it would be better in its original site.
This is a good example of why people don’t see the value in saving Marilyn Monroes house…what does Pinks Hot Dog stand not moving have to do with saving Marilyn’s house 🤯😤😡🤬
Because they are both historical landmarks of Hollywood🤡

Entire ancient Egyptian temples complexes have been relocated, so it can be done.
@@gigif8566 Appreciate the knowledge 🙏
Awesome it's a Historical Landmark Not unlike Elvis Presley home in Tupelo Mississippi that was saved and restored using Imminent Domain 👌💯
The owner knew it’s a popular house so they have no right to complain about tourist. Also why tear that house down and why buy it then. Out of all homes in LA why chose that one if they do t like it? Sell up and go away! It’s a beautiful home leave well alone
Having the current billionaire owners pay to move it to a location that would grant public access to it seems like a possible compromise. But I want it to look as close as possible to the current location, including the pool, the shrubs, etc... Shame on the billionaire family that bought the house, only to want to tear it down. The have absolutely no sense of historical perspective, and are obviously not afraid to be absolutely HATED for their actions.
Please dont tear in down. Part of history.
Make it a historic landmark !!! I’m glad this is getting national attention Marylins house needs to stay put !
At closing the escrow agent discloses the title report, i.e. flood area, easements, and other items pertinent to the property. They knew it was marked as a historic property due to notoriety of the previous owner. So it wasnt hidden from the buyer. The title says the exterior needs to stay the same, they can do whatever they want to the interior as the exterior of the structure is prominent. The very same thing happened to the buyer of the Playboy mansion. He got upset that he couldnt expanded the structure.
It was not marked as a historic building. The group trying to make it a historic building is just now trying to make it a historic building.
It wasn’t an official historic landmark at that time.
@@PandoraBear357 It has a moratorium on the property.
@@jasminespencer3992 It has a moratorium
It’s not historic because the house has been gutted several times. Nothing of the original interior remains. This is sham reporting by CBS News who won’t even interview the owner.
Why don't they consider closing the street entrance and make it guard gated ?
I wish all American homes/architecture that are still in decent condition would be preserved. Too many people coming here trying to change things and for the worst.
Marilyn’s house was present before the new owners/neighbors moved into the neighborhood. They should have been aware of the possibility of sightseers.
The owner doesn’t like the attention … it is historic and it is what it is, try to enjoy it. I vote to protect it.
0:55 Her grave is. He did no research. The new owners plan to demolish it to expand their adjacent house. They show no regard for Marilyn or her former residence.
Clearly the current owners of the property have plenty of money. The city needs to make the house a landmark and the current owners need to sell the property to someone who would honor its history. Then they can buy another property, one with no history. Everybody wins.
I think the house should be preserved! Let's protect and maintain LA's cultural heritage.
The house is so beautiful!
hope they win should be a listed protected property
Too much of history disappearing.
Happy mother's Day
THESE PEOPLE SHOULD Have BOUGHT THE HOUSE WHEN IT WAS FOR SALE THEY DIDNT YOU HAVE NO SAY….
How do you even move it? It sure looks like a large, old home. They'll need to move it in sections and who knows if it will fall apart. The foundation is probably cement. You can't move that. With the home not visible from the street what will the public lose if it's torn down? The tour buses just drive by, saying her home is somewhere behind that wall, but the tourists can't even see it. I remember the original Taco Bell being moved. That's quite small. For this home, it will be complicated.
Don't they have a home registry historical society there to preserve these homes?
Not that distinctive of a home to start., Plumbing, HVAC,electrical, and R value likely outdated, and nothing to see from public view. What's to save?
those owners should have known about the house being tourist attraction .... hope it remains as is and historic
I'm shocked that her house didn't have landmark status long before this - something that would have been known when it was up for sale. Moving her home just doesn't seem to be an answer to me either. LA should buy out the current owner and go from there.
How can you “relocate” a home that’s meant to be were it’s supposed to be that’s history, if the residents don’t like it they can always move , they make what millions a year? They can always find another home .. Tired of the “Uber Rich” always complaining about something when it hits near their home but when it’s not they don’t care ..
Exactly 💯!!!!!!
they should relocate and buy it from the owner if they really want to preserve it
Los Angeles does things like this. I was on a tour once and everything was like 'See that Fredericks of Hollywood? It used to be the original design studio of Max Factor!" Ugh. LA and Vegas are horrible about preserving history.
To be fair you can't take anything with you on the Atomic Museum tour. Its Literally illegal to. No excuses for LA though but California gonna California
We are in a housing crisis
The house has been gutted several times. Nothing of Marilyn’s original interior remains. CBS won’t tell you that though.
@@NemeanLion- well damn that's kinda important
Seems the neighbor bought the house ( reality tv producer) and wants to combine the properties.
That's a beautiful house anyway. LA has made so many blunders erasing its history. When will it come to its senses?
I feel that the owner of the property should be able to do what is in their best interest to do with their house. Marilyn died 62 years ago. life and progress go on.
exactly, the people who are crying can chip in and buy it to preserve it, but nope they just wanted to do it with someone else's dime.
No ! we would have no historic building's if that was the thought. Many people have no taste or care about anybody
but their Selfs. That's why there are listed Buildings to protect them . Thats why Europe is Flocked to.
Where’s Kim K? She should be able to afford it.
The house has been renovated and remodeled numerous times. Has had 14 owners. It isn’t a landmark any more.
I think it is . Many historic houses have had many owners. Its all a matter of opinion. Some people dont care about any house being pulled down
Its mainly because its in los Angeles. Expensive and crowded city
@@2_thumbs_up_baby it’s not a matter of opinion if the historical preservationsociety never bothered to protect its interior before. It’s too late now, the house has been gutted.
@NemeanLion- Yeah, because nothing has ever been restored to it's former glory 🙄
@@beepboop9464 maybe you haven’t had your coffee yet, but when everything is removed and remodeled, it is impossible to restore. It’s gone. This is why many historical landmarks get turned down for preservation. So keep rolling those eyes.

All throughout the US wealthy homeowners love to level charming historic properties and build modern cheap concrete monstrosities
I live down the street from the Golden Girl’s house. Years ago it was a fun surprise to see it at the MGM park in FLA. Unfortunately the current owners have disguised it, but there were fans there gawking from time to time. Many of the other homes in the neighborhood landscape their homes from view, so sort of can’t single them out. Maybe somebody should reconstruct Marylyn’s home as it really was in 1960 somewhere else….like at an MGM type park. The fans would enjoy being able to go inside and be welcome. Not a saint, she a queen of mid-century fantasy.
If the current owner decided to sell the property im sure Marilyns fans from all over the world would donate money to pay for it !!! Starting with my self
I'm second in line then to donate!!!!
@tracyturner-browne4012 hi Tracy where in the world are you ? I live in Northern Ireland, and know another Marilyn fan in Turin Italy
Why would they take it down ?
Jimmy Stewart home got razed and I wasn’t fan of that . However , homeowners have the right to do whatever they want once they own the land . Relocating Marilyn’s home is one of the worst ideas I have heard lol. . I have been to her house outside . Peoooe peeking over the fence constantly. I have done it too. Can’t blame the owners for wanting privacy .
Wait what!? I get that moving it is a possibility, but it's not really the same as it staying in its original place. Can't the city rate it as a listed building? Sorry, don't know US equivalents, but in the UK they can rate it Grade 1 listed which means neither the exterior or interior can be changed. I believe garden structures can also be listed. Then Grade 2, to the best of my knowledge just means the exterior can't be changed. However there are some conservation rules where interior details need to be preserved. Surely the US has this type of thing? I know that Americans always lean to Europe for history, but the US is packed with its own history that is still seen as important, not just to Americans but to Europeans too.
Well, if it gets protected, but it still has to go through channels. We have alot of historical buildings protected.
This has not already been done🧐
I thought this was debated, voted on and decided last year? Did the owner think after things quieted down that they would quietly have it demolished while nobody was watching? It’s people like this who consider Leonardo DiCaprio “old Hollywood”.
Who OWNS THE HOUSE NOW IS THE POINT
They could have bought any house in the world with there money, but they chose this house? Are you kidding??!! Give them there 8 million back and take the house over, greedy billionaires!!
Simple solution, if you want to save it, buy it. Otherwise it aint your damn house. A mans home is his castle he can do as he pleases
Being an historic landmark used to be reserved for truly meaningful events & people. Obviously, popular sentiment and not historic importance drove the original designation here.
If the status of the property was already in place, it's not news to me. if it weren't already an historical property with restrictions, I'd say it would be a bad idea to give it that designation
If you are annoyed by tourists perhaps you shouldn’t live in Los Angeles?
1.) What did Pink’s have anything to do with this story? Terrible transition and made absolutely no relevant sense.
2.) Regardless of the opinion of Monroe, she was truly one of the greatest icons of the 20th century. Not really understanding why this particular home was purchased and needs to be taken down.
How they can destroy an historic site. There are other places to go
See if the late Marilyn Monroe comes back and haunts the ones who want her house torn down.

Here's to preserving MORE Hollywood History... xo
Moving Marilyn’s home seems like a wise idea. That way the current owners will have a clean slate of a property to build upon, and Marilyn’s fans can relocate and maintain the house elsewhere as a historical monument, a tribute to the star. To keep things fair for the current owners, they should be reimbursed at the full current value of the house, paid for by fundraising, not tax dollars.
They should keep this house the next few hundreds years unless Judgment Day is first. What kind of a person would have a personal vendetta against Marilyn Monroe that they would use their big real estate money and power to try to destroy one of her good homes she really lived in.
Tell them it’s a solar farm.
The owners of the Marilyn Monroe house say they don't care about her.
why don't they move instead of knocking it down, this doesn't make sense
While I would like the city/state/county to preserve something like this, it was sold to an independent buyer and they have a right to do what they want. The city/state/county could’ve bought it several times if it meant that much. Moving the structure, to me, doesn’t keep the integrity or history. There are so many other historical artifacts from Marilyn that will keep people satisfied for years to come, but to be honest, as generations that grew up with her or knew of her leave this earth, there will not be much demand for her.
You are really wrong lol... I was going to set an example, but my profile picture talks alone. I'm a teen, and everyone I know, either knows her or loves her. She died in early 1960's, and keeps being the no.1 legend of old hollywood, and her estate keeps gaining millions, so her demand just keeps growing and growing.
She was there before yall , bye .
So the get rid of the homelessness, drugs and gangs and it should look brand new.

How can they turn it into a museum if it’s been gutted several times and nothing of the original interior remains? I think the home has changed owners 14 times since Marilyn‘s death. It’s not a historical landmark anymore.
