Ooooh it’s like having astigmatism 😅
As an optometrist, I approve this message
I just got this camera. Can’t wait to see my pics look like.
It’s a fun little camera - Hope you got some good shots
The star filter is such a fun add-on and I love using the original. Solid review, might have to pick this one up!
Thanks Ashley - I really had fun with the bulb/long exposures
As a big fan of long exposure images with digital, I was loving those light trail images towards the end. The star filter was fun for the neon light images, too. Great video Dave.
Thanks Andy - It was fun shooting the long exposure night shots. I really need to bring a tripod with me more often. I thought it would be a big hindrance, but it wasn’t too bad to lug around.
Great photos as always! That last one was my fav. I’m ordering mine today. Think I’ll go with the orange one.
Thanks Christina! I had a hard time deciding between the orange and the blue
The last shot is great! 👍
Thanks - That was my favorite
I’d have to agree with your assessment. As long as the expectations are in check, this is a fun walking around way to shoot some film. The filter is a fun little twist people can experiment with. And the bulb mode is also a nice addition so that you can make some long exposures (and/or shoot the same roll of Ektar on a sunny day and also at night). So a good review I think!
Thanks Billy - Definitely not sharp, a lot of flare, but still fun to shoot
Thanks for the info! Good stuff. I would like to see some b&w photos shot by that puppy!
Thanks Brent - hope to shoot BW soon
Great review!
Thanks Lee!
looks great! i just got the blue one too
Nice!
Great review, thanks! I'm surprised that the glass lens really doesn't make that much of a difference, if at all. Looks as sharp as my H35. I don't think I'll be snapping this one up.
Image quality really is about the same, I agree
I just may eventually get one of these when I get back on my feet. The bells and whistles are what does it for me. I don't know if it is your developing method but those colors are very surreal at times. And it seems you never have a loss of finding things to photogrpah. There seems to be alot going on by you.
Might be combo of my dev and the Ektar film. Today I’m shooting at the Marion Popcorn Festival, about an hour north of me.
@@theoldcameraguy Nice. Yesit could be the developer you use and that could be your signature of your film photography. You can also develop color film in black and white chemicals. It will come out black and white. I know a photographer who develops discontinued kodachrome 64in black and white chemicals.
Not sure I'm in love with that star filter, some of those shots almost just looked like the lens was smeared lol. I really love the one you got at the end at 7:51, maybe it just works best with more focused light sources?? Thanks for sharing your thoughts as always, this is a super useful vid (especially for beginners)
Yes, but “star filter” sounds better than “smear filter” haha. I think you’re right - with a focused light source, it comes out more appealing.
I like the idea. Does it work with vision :D? F8? The neons very niceee!
Yes - Vision 3 would look good at night too
Hi, thanks for the video. I'm starting photography and I don't know lots of things. Where can I get the film ? I didn't find them on the webside of kodak. thanks you !
I get most of my film at local camera stores. When I order online, I usually use filmphotographystore.com or Freestyle Photo from California.
Hi! I am planning to buy this camera as the design really piqued my interest and it seemed like a really good deal for its price and for a beginner like me. I am curious if you have to advance the film after each shot or after 2 shots since it's a half frame camera. Thank you so much! Great video, by the way 😊
Thanks - You advance the film after each shot like you normally would.
Great photos -- especially the night photos! What was your typical exposure time for those? And did you calculate it all out -- or just wing it?
Thanks - I used a light meter on my phone. Typical times were around 6 seconds or so.
I wonder, is the glass element exposed to the outside of the case? Would made sense as a way to protect the plastic lens inside the camera.
I believe that is the case.
Beautiful photos! I am surprised by how soft these are though. Do you feel like they’re softer than the ones that come out of the OG H35? I think they are
Thanks - They’re pretty similar. I noticed more flare with this one
@@theoldcameraguy okay! Thanks for answering my question! 👍🏾
Hi. I liked the night shots they seem more balanced. I'm thinking on a bright day even with 100 iso the day shots had a strong blue overcast. Perhaps using a smaller iso like 50. Would that be better? Shame they didn't allow a filter ring on there to add filters like an ND I don't think it would have cost much more to add it? Thanks Matt
Yeah man, I was definitely happier with the night shots. Daytime shots were a little overexposed and color was a bit wonky. Lower speed film probably would be better on sunny days.
@@theoldcameraguy a filter windig for rough adaption with ND filters would help. The the Kodak Gold 200 is much to sensitive for pictures in harsh sun. And shooting 72 Pictures at the same conditions is improbable.
im really new to film photography. would you recommend iso 160 or iso 400 film for this model camera?
160 or 200. 400 only if it’s really overcast
Wow I thought the photos looked pretty bad. For about the same price you could get an Olympus pen ee2 or similar camera and get a lot better results and have a way way nicer camera.
Hello! I recently bought this camera, but it seems there is a problem with a spring in it. When I advance the film, the camera makes a springy sound and I can also feel the spring "shaking". Makes me a little bit afraid to use it in case it will break.
Has anyone else had that problem? Or is it normal?
Quick one, since it´s two pictures per frame, do you have to roll after one take or two?
You wind after each individual shot.
I don't want to shoot important pictures of my holly days with family. The risc of fail is to high. It thing you get better results with a point and shoot of the 90th and early 00th. I hope that some companies produce half frame cameras with autofocus and measuring. Like the Yashica Samurai series. But is there a big enough market for it? A photo trader in my city told me that he gets inquiries about point and shoot cameras every day. Especially from young people.
Hi! I just got my camera today. I can see a part of the plastic circle around the lens through the viewfinder. Do you see this as well? I’m worried my camera has a defect and all my pictures will show this plastic part.
Yes, I can see a little of it in the bottom right of the viewfinder - it does not show in the pictures.
@@theoldcameraguy great! Thank you for you response and your videos!
Is the shutter button supposed to be silent? Only when using flash I know for sure I took a picture. Otherwise I m just asking myself did I push the button right? 😅
Yes, it’s pretty quiet.
@@theoldcameraguy thank you 🙏😊
Hey how can we shoot that multiple exposure photos?
Here’s how ruclips.net/user/shortswlx7u-VtL44?si=ItSuBIU-m_SPsw17
It seems like you have forgotten to mention the 30.5mm filter thread! I made a short about it. I linked it but I guess youtube deleted my comment.
If it have a filter windig it would be possible do adapt approximately the erporse by different ND filters. I am amazed some photographers post usable shots with this camera.
Could anyone tell me if the orientation on this one is the same as the H35? I mean, do I have to take the shot vertically to get a landscape photo? Sorry for my bad English 😅
Yes, same orientation
@@theoldcameraguy thank you so much 😊🫰🏼
Has the viewfinder changed?
Yes, the new one just shows a true portrait view.
can you show as the settings and how long you shoot long exposures please
I used a light meter app on my phone for long exposures. Just set the film’s ISO and aperture of f11 on the app and then the app will calculate the exposure time for you. Then I used the stopwatch on my phone to time the long exposure.
@@theoldcameraguy I cant spell it but do you need to allow for respriatory or whatever they call it.
thanks
@chaffimaxlife You’re talking about reciprocity failure - I didn’t worry about that when I took my shots.
@@theoldcameraguy thanks buddy, I'm 50 odd, just getting back into film. I'm sure i will be asking a lot of questions. many thanks
love your channel
@@chaffimaxlife Thanks for watching
For me the Olympus Pen is much better
Sometimes much cheaper (at least here in Brazil)
Better lens
Better built quality
Has a light meter
Manual aperture selection
Just love my pen
How do I turn off the camera? Is it just removing the batteries? How long does each battery last if you never turn off the camera (or it just turns off by itself)?
the camera works without a battery?
Yes- you only need the battery for the flash.
You just twist the ring around the lens to turn the flash on and off. If you’re not using the flash, the camera doesn’t draw any power from the battery, so it’s not really “on” and will not drain the battery.
Its normal the Film Counter restart to S because i open the back Lock aciddentally@@theoldcameraguy
What films do you recommend for an island trip (with sun, open landscapes beach...)and for a trip in a big city?
You only forgot to explain one thing: if you want to take horizontal photos, you have to shoot with the camera vertically; if you want to take vertical photos, you have to shoot with the camera horizontally.
It’s unbelievable that no one ever mentions this…no one’s gonna be saving money on film as everyone will be getting there frames horribly wrong and wasting film, time & money
The fairground pictures look horribly overexposed. According to the sunny-16 rule, for 100 ISO film you need 1/100 s @ f/16 exposure, and I believe the aperture is fixed f/8, but it seems to be over by more. Maybe the shutter is a bit lazy; it would be worth checking. A neutral-density filter would be more useful than the star filter. Maybe you can improvise something. Excellent video!
I made the mistake of using 400 speed film in the original H35 on a sunny day and it was super overexposed
I liked the pictures that you took but I didn't really care for the camera itself. You've used cheaper point and shoot cameras with WAY better results. The camera is way too expensive in my opinion. It's such a cheap plastic so it's a camera that wouldn't survive a fall. I'd use that money and get an older point and shoot half-frame camera and get better results. Great video like always.
Thanks Rene. I picked up an old half frame Argus camera a while back - gonna shoot it soon
@@theoldcameraguy Good idea!
I love it but... Im afraid of plastic, seems fragile 😢
You definitely want to handle it carefully
dont be man! my h35 is actually a tank, i take this thing everywhere
@@jpegstephan I'll give it a try, there's a lomography representative in my town, so im gonna get one and chill.
If you plan on dropping your camera you’re doing it wrong.
Why the images are so blue-ish?
Overexposure
The photos were extremely overexposed and blue, which is very strange for the F8 at 1/100. Maybe there's something wrong with it or your film is expired...
Bulb shutter shots at night were pretty good - possible the fixed shutter speed might be longer than 1/100
