Hey everyone! I got tons of questions about my first year in France during the TAPIF (teaching assistant program in France) and what I would tell all those new assistants out there headed to France for their first year! Hope this video helps answer some of your questions! If you have any more, leave them in the comments and i'll do my best to get back to everyone!! xx
Unintentionally Frenchified Thank you so much or this video!! I just applied! Let's see! Question, where do I apply to get reimbursed for housing? Online? Was it CAF?? Thanks a million for a great video!
Totally confirm the thing about saving paperwork. I did TAPIF back in 2016, went back to the US, got a full-time job and assumed I was never coming back to France. But after a few years I realized how much I missed France and decided to go back for a master's. Keeping all my info, especially the social security paperwork saved me a lot of stress compared to the other international students around me.
That's such a good example of actually leaving France for a couple of years and appreciating all that paperwork even when you come back. I spent literally 7 months attempting to get back pay stubs from TAPIF and my first two internships because I didn't ever think I would need that paperwork for anything.... #hardcoreregrets!
France must be a great country to live in, a lot of Americans seem to apply for citizenship. I loved our trip to France and we are returning this Spring. Great video. I love your channel.
Thanks! Im apply to TAPIF and this video is super helpful. I get so nervous applying for smaller towns because I need public transportation to get around.
I feel ya! Maggie and I kept reminiscing about life in France in our 20's and TAPIF while we did this video. If only we appreciated the present enough!!
@@UnintentionallyFrenchified Yes that's true! That reminds me of how a friend of mine recently pointed out that we're always reminiscing about our high school bodies, our college bodies, our 20s bodies, our bodies X years ago....so let's realize that X years from now we're going to be reminiscing about the one we have now and so let's appreciate it. (And let's be real....I'm in Paris on sabbatical and so if I'm not appreciating my current present I'm doing it wrong!)
It's so true! I read the same quote about having kids (im on the baby train since i'm due any day) and it was how you say it will be easier when they sleep through the night, when they are potty trained, when they are teenagers, adults etc.. and you never appreciate the actual phase they are in.... easier said then done, but good goal to have! Enjoy your sabbatical in Paris!
Your video is very detailed and helpful. But I'm just finding out about this program. And I would some insights about writing the motivation letter. Thanks
Hi Ajayi! To be honest, I don't even remember what I put in my motivation letter so I would recommend seeing what other info you can find about the program to help with that! I wouldn't want to give you any false info!
@@UnintentionallyFrenchified thanks for the honest reply. I would be reapplying next year as I can't anymore this year. Too late. But I hope to be better prepared. Salut
Hello, is it possible to understand how do you met your man? In USA ? France? In a party with friends, wich friends, was it american friends, job's friends, WASP friends? How happen the selection to be in the group of friends, what was your common points of the group of friends. I think you will never answer, but I would like to ask the question anyway.
Absolutely not. Any age is a good age for an adventure. There is an age limit on the program so if you make the cut, it means you fit the right profile! And it's 7 months. What' the worst that could happen? Go for it :)
I am a little confused about the CAF because I won't be a student anymore if I am accepted into the TAPIF Program. Would I still be eligible to apply to CAF?
Hello, Great video. I had a quick question... i’m currently in my last year of college but i would like to apply and finish my degree online while working in France. Do you have to have a bachelor’s degree first to apply?
No, you do not. I was an assistant before completing my degree. The only requirement I know of is having at least a B2 level in French just so that you are able to get about.
Not at all! Check to see if your country has it, but they recruit assistants from a bunch of different places to be assistants of english, spanish, italian, german... I'm from Venezuela and I got accepted as a Spanish assistant for the next school year! Check on the CIEP site (www.ciep.fr/assistants-langue-france) or with the French embassy in your country.
They say that when you switch companies in France, you should ask for +20% even if you are doing the same thing! See if there are some similar jobs in a new company open.

Somtimes you just can't stop the franglais from sneaking in there can you! :)

Poitiers is a médium size city with a lot of students and 2 Hours away from Paris by train. So it was a good choiçe
What is CAF (sp?)? The rent assistance program.
What level of French do you need to teach English in French? Is B1-2 enough?

So, I’m 30 and I am considering participating in this program... I am I crazy?

hi i’m french and yes you could still apply bc CAF is for everyone who is "needy" (they study your finances and determine what kind of help you need)
how do you apply for housing discount/ benefits??
¡Field trips to McDonalds & Starbucks! Sounds Fun.

As far as i am concerned, i learned english with "Jean-Pierre Raffarin the yes needs the no"
Do I have to be American in order to apply to this program?

Maga Mujica thank you so much!
No
How do you get a job that pays more tho? lol I'm already in France

Ich liebe dich ❤
That program is a very prejudiced one accepting only people who are 30 years old or younger. ABSOLUTE prejudice... Disgusting!
