Girl enters a house, hear dolls whispering to her, finds something behind a red door that made her nope out of there.
Girl: that was terrifying. I'll visit it again!
That's what's interesting though, is that the location itself is cursed. The game series itself is about a japanese... Legend? Superstition? Of locations being cursed, or even objects. Gab on her channel explains this much better than I do, and the rest of the games are good as well. This isn't the first time the creator has used a child in a game either.
But basically once you step foot on the location, you're forced to come back. You don't have a choice. She had enough will power to leave the first two times perhaps, or maybe the spirit allowed it, who knows?
But you can't escape it.

This game reminds me of that one junji ito “dollhouse” about a master puppeteer and his house of dolls.
That came across in my head, but there wasn't any direct references so I never brought it up in commentary. The game also had a slight sense of humour which kind of made me think of Junji Itos kind of weirdly comical aspects.
Just looking at the title screen I'm already wary before anything has happened.

So Touhou is a horror game.
Huh
@@needsabettername5862 just think about it, you have a red bow, and you have to fight feral gods, and reality bending entities. At one point you have to fight your way to a sun god that everyone has lost control of. In another, you are waging war against fellow humans through hell, and the beast realm at the behest of the very beast spirits that were terrorising your realm.
It comes to no wonder that Hakurei Reimu is called the Crimson Slasher after so many games. And if she dies, reality will fall apart soon after, but if she doesn't, then there'll be mass famines, multiple wars of extermination, and the natural cycle falling apart. Other people with red bows are Fujiwara no Mokou, an immortal and accursed princess trying to seek vengeance across the eras for her father, but it's all a game for the perpetrator. Rumia who is a sealed embodiement of darkness, who knows what will happen when you remove the ribbon. And then there is Hina, a goddess with the thankless job of collecting curses, and consuming bad omens.
Your compatriots, are in short order:
- A kleptomaniac magician with a death wish. She steals power and magic from beings of immense power. For example: the Philosopher King, Patchouli Knowledge; Sleeping Terror of the Sea of Suns, Kazama Yuuka, ...
- An Aloof Psychopath who brushes off the suffering of others as either entertainment, or as someone else's problem. She works for the Scarlet Devil, and is also associated with Jack the Ripper. She is very close to being a devil herself with her disregard and disdain for others, but especially because she cooks humans. Otherwise she is perfect at her job as Head Maid.
- A sheltered retainer, heiress of a sword lineage that produced a sword saint, who works under the queen of death. She thinks with her sword, and is surprisingly, not one of the most violent, nor the most foolish. Another startling thing is that she has a sword that can cut through concepts. She regularly uses this on herself to cut away her confusions and doubts. She has no desire or fear of death, like any human should have.
- A survivor of the the nuclear strikes on Japan, who turned out to be a demigoddess. She survived due to a miracle, and is considered the Maiden of Miracles, compared to Reimu, Maiden of Fantasy. An understated fact is that there are no civilians in WW2 Japan. Even getting hit with nuclear bombs didn't bring an end to that pride. What happened to her? She is very faithful, and virtuous, but she is lead on by the two goddesses, and her two ancestors of the shrine.
- A black crow tengu who is part of the Intelligence and Recon Corps of the Tengu Dominion. Both capable of hearing all rumors on the wind, as well as purportedly the fastest in Gensokyou. She accidentally defeats the Maiden Fantasy and the klepto Ordinary Magician by accident, but brushes it off, helping them to knock the Goddesses of the Maiden of Miracles down a few pegs. There is some strange cold war between the tengu, and the various gods, and even maintainers of the realm.

_Dolls cam be freaky_
Especially antique dolls, because they look beautiful in a surreal way. They were detailed with very lifelike eyes, real hair many times, & had pretty clothes & shoes. Easy to imagine that next step to horror - children's souls trapped in them, giving them that near-lifelike look. I appreciated the very small subtle changes as this went on, the rain continuing showing as she stayed, she lost herself more & more. Very creepy experience & a good short horror game.
Which is why I don’t own antique porcelain dolls. One, they freak me out from how life-like they look. Two, they are easy targets for spirits to possess as vessels, especially if the doll was given a name and cared for like a prized possession. Three, I’m somewhat superstitious and don’t want to risk leaving an empty vessel for a spirit to possess.
@@hishamochicosplay Whoa - "they are easy targets for spirits to possess as vessels"? That comes straight from books & movies! Rag dolls can be even more loved, but Hollywood doesn't find them as photogenic lol.
Humans are creeped out by things that aren't quite human & that starts superstitions. The Smithsonian had a great article you can access online about the history of creepy dolls & why we think of them that way. After you read it, you might not be as nervous about dolls. :)

Well that was certainly a creepy experience ... except with that bit with the screamer-esque jumpscare and the doll sailing by to crash offscreen. That was just kind of hilarious.
A p standard thing from this creator. I highly recommend watching gab play through the series!
It's in fact not a horrible story but a sad one about the little girl is unable to resist temptation. The ending shows the girl "becomes" a dismembered doll which is presumedly her corrupted unconscious mind. The friendly doll is the voice of her conscience that repeatedly reminds her to stay away from dodgy temptation.
I appreciate the Engrish ASMR audio, most of it was fairly fluent and even the word salads were good at setting the mood.

This was very creepy. Really makes me interested in the series overall. I hope they all get translated. Creepy whispering dolls. Combined with the music and puppet on a stage play kind of visuals, really has amazing atmosphere. And THEN the illusion starts breaking. Really liked that. I really liked how intense it got. Though I guess one or two were funny. Guessing that a lot of little girls get lost and join the doll house.

GAME THEORY TIME
The game starts off with a young girl, coming into an unfamiliar place. The place is abandoned and isolated, unsuspecting on the outside. But inside, it is lavishly decorated with all sorts of fine toys. She is greeted by a stranger complimenting her, than introducing this place as a paradise and safe haven. She is reminded that she needs to go home, to family, as it’s dark. However, this stranger prompt her to ignore this and further immerse herself in the safe haven they’ve built. Finally, he entices her to enter through a red door to an unfamiliar place. She runs off scared, but the voice calmly insists that she return - Not panicked at all, and almost inviting and sure she will come back.
The way the doll room is decorated contains figures like little red riding hood, and dolls in red dresses. The story of little red riding hood is often associated with the loss of innocence, as is symbolized by her red hood. Red is considered the antithesis of white, which is pure. This could be further associated with the presence of a red door, which the stranger beckons her to go through under the promise of obtaining friends and having fun.
I believe this game can be interpreted as the grooming of a child. It’s a horrible message, but even the first scene matches up with this narrative. A strange entity, collecting little girls and treating them like collectibles and toys, bringing them to a safe place and slowly enticing them to go further and further, to forsake their parents, to protect them from the rain by nobly bringing them into their home and promising them this safety. Furthermore, the little girl ceases to change her clothes after she enters the door for the first time - And further is seen running and hiding from the police. This can eventually be interpreted to have gone from grooming to kidnapping. And its this same day the lights in the toy heaven become red, instead of white, possibly coinciding with the collecting of these girls to imply some association with a red light district.
And that’s all I’ll say for now but. I dunno, it didn’t make any sense the first time I watched this, and the second time I could definitely see this narrative. Does anyone else have any other ideas as to what’s going on?
I put this in another comment but: it's based of japanese curses, specifically a situation like Ju-on. Though in the series it's also possible for the person in the game to create the curse and be doomed to repeat the day. The title itself tells this.
It's a curse you can never escape.
While you're free to believe your theory, it's actually just ghosts being jerks and spiriting people away. This happens in each game of the series. There is no way to escape these curses, and it's popular in japanese horror, but is interesting.
Imo it seems more likely whoever owned this location may have died a long time ago, yet still draws in souls.
Or, addiction ?
I think it's based on Japanese folklore about different yokai.
To get in the mood, you can try this:
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yōkai
Short version is what happening in this dollhouse is not allegory, but supernatural sh*t happening.
The cornerstone of spooks in traditiinal JP horrors is belief of reader/watcher that spirits/yokai have terrible and absolute power over people. They want you dead - you are dead. They want you mutated - you are mutated. They want you brainwashed - you are brainwashed. Doesn't matter if you are a commoner or emperor, if you are mortal and alive - you're f*ked. In some tales they can be limited by strange laws and patterns, but in others - they are absolute power that f*ks you over unavoidably. In these last - the horror is about how you can't run away wherever you do.
Stories about man waking up and then in a snap of the fingers getting destroyed without warning out of blue would be too boring, so folklore tends to concentrate on stories where affected person/persons are not immediately f*ked up, but might or might not get a proper foreshadowing and warning; and it might be a long process of being f*ked over a prolonged period of time (days, years) to let the torturous situation and fear sink in.
In some stories, yokai has a nature that allows person stopping impeding doom - like pacifying a ghost, or asking kami for help, or doing something physical and smart.
But it's not unusual to have youkai folklore, where stopping the impeding doom is just out of cards.
I mean, supernatural calamity. It's in the name. Fear of wastness of nature, of year of famine, of flood, of forest fire, of plague and parasites, of dying due to age, or predators in a night forest. It was rooted in this.
(A sidenote: does this mood give you a Godzilla vibes? It's not a fluke. The way Godzilla invokes these same themes is intentional. An unexplainable monster, aligned with dark fairy tales spoken by the gloomy nights. Godzilla was often addressed in release materials King Kappa, and Kappa are yokai. Supernatural calamity.)
=-=-=
But! What I find dislikable about this game, is what I'd call bad UI feedback about certain important elements of situation. From the way story and game plays out, it's apparent that to some extent (either minor? or major?), girl's body, mind are being affected and changed.
The question is... To what degree and in which scenes?! We have different states of girl in what is presented as real world and in mirrors. But which of those are what girl feels herself at current moment, and which is something taking cintrol over her normal body and mind? How deep is external force and how strong is her own desire to go into dollhouse? Does she realize wrongness in the certain scenes? Does it terrifies her or she's ok with it?
Mess. Mess in conveying situation from her Point Of View properly, I say.
Also, we have a lot of conflicting messages from youkai. 1. Come in. 2. You should go home. 3. Help. 4. Kill.
From context, it seems that Help is what other girls are screaming in their heads after spending more time in youmai. And Kill is perhaps how they feel in time about their own families (for... reasons?) - seems like yokai visits homes of captured girls sometimes and I believe it tends to end with dangerous situationd where their parents and siblings might/should die. But it's not explained! It's a hot mess! Why can't developer find a way to convey situation more clearly? When feedback is that messed up, it's not horror, it's bad user interface.
Overlall, I believe, it's about 50% probability that Jade Nyx is right about soul of weir Westerner haunting the house. But I'd add another 45% that youkai might have been born not from the human, but from the house (perhaps due to the house standing for hindred of years and becoming troubled with neglect) or a certain doll (same reasons as house). And 5% that it's some kind of calamity that is not directly connected to them, just a traveling Twilight Zone that changes rules once in a hundred years.
Strange discord among messages of yokai might imply that consciousness of it is composed of multiple minds - trapped girls, too.
A side note, red strings attached to girl when she's in the middle of becoming a puppet. Red string often have a symbol of one's lifeblood, life, fate, or marriage/love. Red - color of health. Red is a color of bkood, abd blood in JP culture has this notion of purity, you can wash away sins with it.
I wonder if it implies that Westerner that owned dollhouse was pedophile that was into little girls? But to be fair, it'd not given. We also do not know age and sex of owner of dollhouse, anyways.
I doubt that youkai in this story can control time to repeat one day like in Groundhog Day - because we've seen, that situation is actually changes. Girl's garnments in first three days change (the way her dress stopped changing is logically explained by how she stopped leaving this place). There is a day when police is looking for girl. The weather change, etc. After third day, girl looks like she's starving.
So I think what this yokai is not bending time. It just planted suggestion, or enticed girl to return again and again.
I believe it's mobile. This house and park fading to darkness most likely mean that it moved to some other place. I think it's heavily implied, that it moved to the girl's home to haunt it for a bit.
it could just be a story about spooky ghost dolls
but a lot of the imagery and such does eerily match abuse, trauma, and manipulation, Manly even calls out a bit of it in the video
Girls like you need to be more famous you are the best!!
This game is such a prime example of how little means more when it comes to horror. The atmosphere of it is almost suffocating.

I saw a preview of this! Looks really interesting and creepy! Japanese horror is amazing. I love the effort in the visuals and side scrolling elements.
Also, I’ve heard that song on the title screen in a few RPG maker games. Is it a well known Japanese song like Kagome Kagome? Does anyone know the name of it? I’ll have to see if I can find it at some point.
I believe it's hitoshi by semses circus, because it's free bgm, but it may be Dova - syndrome. I'm not sure.
@@claracallejo2824 Thanks for the reply. It makes sense it’s free Japanese background music (a lot of games use music from the same websites). aa I really like this take on horror the whispers are so unsettling and Idk how that little girl didn't bolt out of there when she heard it?? anyway its so nice to see something new in this genre!
I think some kids more believe in, like, or curious about the supernaturnal or mystical. Such as thinking whispers would be fairies or something.
Manly, you should play the other games in the series! Honestly I think this one was actually more tame/boring compared to the previous works, which are incredibly eerie and do very well in getting under your skin!
Holy shit this game was anxiety-inducing.
It definitely gave me heavy Coraline vibes because of the setting and aesthetic.
That’s too creepy for this hour.
But love it.
Watching this video reminded me of a really old Japanese Flash browser game I used to play called Hanamushi. Anyone else here played it before? It has a sort of surreal Alice in Wonderland feeling, a very unique artstyle and simple gameplay, so I'd recommend anyone who likes that sort of thing to go and play it before Flash is forever disabled from all browsers. There also walkthroughs available too if you get stuck. If possible I'd also like to see Manly try it out.

It's like The Cat Lady mixed with P.T. mixed with Mad Father.
I like that they put a different dress on her each day. Well, until she stops leaving. She's even wet from the rain on day 3. Most games just stick the character in one outfit through the whole game. No matter how many days pass.
5:34 Love the cabbage patch doll reference.
this is giving me bad vibes.. where's the doom guy when you need him?
"This game will make you scared of dolls"
...so, make it worse in my case, eh?
Not sure if anyone's offered theories to the game's theme yet, but my guess is something like this:
You could look at it literally, as a haunted toy shop, or something more metaphorical like my take is. Dolls are something obviously tied to childhood and pure innocence (which is why making them move and be evil is extra scary to begin with). During the whole game, we hear an older man's voice narrating a lot of stuff, and trying sound very enticing to the little girl, and I think that's on purpose. He seems like the shop's owner, and it seems like he tricks the little girl into coming back and not wanting to leave after a few days; he wants a doll for himself and she fits the bill (which is also why later we see her on puppet strings, she's become his doll to move around and manipulate). The police sirens happen during the raining scene because the little girl has gone missing. By the end, she's kept locked away in the shop's backroom, probably even with a bunch of dolls for quite a while given all the 'help' writings we see on the walls. After he's done playing with his 'doll', he kills her, and the little girl by now has fully lost her innocence, and the dolls that once made her so happy are now the symbol for deceit and death, which is why they morph into nightmarish visions, and the shop which seemed to beautiful and warm now looks rundown and horrible.
At least that's my take! I know it's a bit assuming of stuff, but I feel like it's a plausible theory given the clues we're given.
Interesting and dark theory.
But it's a bit difficult for me to believe in this version of events. Overall theme of girl's journey is her hearing weak voice, passing through a labyrinth of dolls. Hand of hypothetical old man is represented in her mind as a falling off doll hand, weak and useless.
If there was old man, he was weak. He urges girl to leave. Doesn't really behave as a proper villain. Like grabbing her, a big hulking figure, etc. Girl's clothes are not damaged. No wounds are seen.
The hook that makes girl return is dolls and carnival.
I still think that situation - even it's a metaphor reflected as girl's perception or if she's now a vengeful ghost - can't be explained as conventional crime. It's dolls that portray mallice. Not master of dolls. It's clocks stopped in 4:44, which would sound in Japanese as promise of death 3 times - "time to die".
I really think a supernatural sh*t is happening. Even if there was a human criminal involved, I expect he either had supernatural powers, or was locked into supernatural trap.
But to be fair, I see this story as purely supernatural horror - something along these lines - ruclips.net/video/aR_t9EZXBJ0/видео.html&lc=Ugy4Yk47Q9t-tNuSIBd4AaABAg.94i_ExZsdz494mZ-lAsvIG
Personally, I think developer overdone ambiguousness and vaguesness of the plot.

I think you can't walk out the exit door, because Manly probably would've included that if something interesting does happen
Well that was disquieting. Simple, but I like the aesthetic and the little blink and you'll miss it moments.
The final song is incredibly sweet. It was haunting

*Proceeds to clutch my Niko plushie tightly*
“This game will make you scared of dolls” A’ight, bet
Honestly, the end was freaky, but... Those jumpscares. I died laughing.
Without those jumpscares at the end, I think it would’ve been way more scary. I was kinda hoping that, since it seemed more traditional-style Japanese horror, it wouldn’t go there. But what can ya do.
@@CircusCuties Japanese are fond of jumpscares.
GG Gab (or Gab Smolders now) has all of these translated. I wonder that if this one goes over well, if the creator will go back and have the others translated? I do like the Tsugu no Hi games; they're all more or less experiences like this.
I came in preparing for the worst scare of my life but all I get is a bit of frustration at the character movements especially at the end (understandable because she’s a puppet at this point) but can you not....lag???
0:22 We call that "the PT effect" Manly.
is already afraid of dolls i will pass this one
Nope. This whole situation is Nope.
"This game will make you scared of dolls" jokes on you, I'm already terrified of them
Interesting. To me, horror is a type of games that REALLY needs multiple endings, thus actual gameplay. It was pretty, but veeeery few horror oriented games are actually interesting to me without multiple endings. And this one wasn't - so it was just pretty, but that's it.
It's fun to see your opinion is the exact opposite of mine.
The layered effect of the shelves is so gorgeous, i can only imagine how to make that.
Imcyan is the same person who made that game with Yume Teru-kun, right? The sound and visual effects were very familiar~
So I have... A little... Not a theory because of the lack of evidence but a thought. The dolls start off kind of cute but then turn kind of scary right? And manly mentions "all the other dolls turned up here the same way". So... What if the other dolls turned scary in order to try and scare her away? But they could only do it a little bit at a time because of what had been done to them hence only the small changes? And then the doll head at the end that's seen outside of the door leading outside seems to be... Rattling at the door and trying to open it but obviously the... Villain I guess is on the other side of the house. So what if that doll was trying to open the door to bring the protagonist back out or something? Idk I guess it's a bit out there but idk maybe?
I also had another thought about the doll hanging outside the door at the end. Because maybe it was also something to make the outside look scary? Just to make sure she didn't turn back... Maybe. Like I said these are just thoughts ^-^
Bold of you to assume that I am not already scared of Dolls, Manly.
I know the main screen song ever heard of lost smile and strange circus? I love that game so yeet
bold of you to assume they didnt scare me already
20:40 "Ah yeah, I'mma do the scooting chair thing again. Gonna do the scooting chair thing again and jump scare the shi- OH FUCK HOW DO I STOP THIS CHAIR"
These are becoming my favorite types of videos of yours, Evil God Korone made me look back and try to find all these games I missed!
i like the evil sound is like "dont you think you should go home?" "parents may worry about you"
like, he is tryina to say for you to fuck off outa there
Me: I made it this far and I didn’t get scared. 💛💛😪
Manly: Jumpscare?
Me: Aw man 😭🤦🏽♀️
Calling them jump scares is a stretch. The one at 20:50 just looks comical, like the doll who was scooting along side you slipped on something and went careening out of control while doing a sort of Michael Jackson scream.
Mary comes to mind.
Its always nice to see a playthrough of an ImCyan made game on the channel.
[creepy whispering voice] "Welcome to the toy heaven!"
me, immediately: NOPE NO THANKS IM GOOD KEEP WHATEVER YOURE SELLING BYE
"This game will make you scared of dolls"....
Well tell that to Chucky. He's one of the reasons *THAT I'M SCARED OF THE DOLLS!!!!* 😱😱😱
My dude I got scared of dolls when you lets played death mark, nothing can make me more scared now-
I THOUGHT THIS WAS A GAB SMOULDERS PLAYTHROUGH, BUT IT WAS YOU MANLYBADASSHERO!
Oh man though seeing this and I'm already scared. I know from Fan's playthrough of the series that this is gonna be terrifying but that THUMBNAIL? No no no! Still gonna watch though cause I love what you do!
Gab's**
That Thumbnail though
Your profile pic has the perfect reaction for the thumbnail.
Im super excited for manly to cover the other games in this series. Absolutely love the presentation here.
I feel like that was all a hallucination and there were no dolls or shop, she wondered into some old abandoned house and that whispering thing killed her
Well, I haven't been unnerved by a game you've played like this for a good while. It certainly got to me, like... when the title screen started messing up halfway, I noped and just listened to the audio. The sound design is also very unnerving, and picturing it with visuals... I have a feeling I'm gonna have nightmares. Thanks for sharing though!
Tbh glass Victorian or those porcelain dolls creep me out they look possessed.
and i would never go anywhere near them or let them into my house.
Opinions on this are divided but I liked this a lot! The jumpscares were definitely cheesy, but I found the repetition very unsettling because I was constantly looking to see what was different. It reminds me of I'm On Observation Duty in that way. I like the graphics, too. It feels like a paper cutout.
Me: *hears the words "house of dolls"* 😶
Me: So it's like the doll shrines from Fatal Frame II and Fatal Frame V n_n 😁
Manly: Whispering dolls.... 😕
Me: Relax they're just trying to tell you their secrets and or a joke or two.... 😅
If I was that little girl would stop coming after my first visit.
I’m wearing headphones while watching this and I’m not gonna lie, thought that creepy whispering was someone next to me.
