@sergiodavila5269 As a young white kid growing up in the 80s, the Digital Underground introduced me to the world of hip-hop. Their lyrics were actually saying something! Not just money, drugs and hos. I did have to hide my "Sex Packets" tape from my parents for a few years lol! Yes R.I.P. to two legends.

They have so many killer tracks! Not just Humpty Dance and Same Song. They have some of the best samples, in my opinion. Dig deep on them!!
BJ ain’t lying either. He’s totally right about Tu being a back up dancer and roadie for them first. Netflix documentary series Hip Hop evolution has a great episode about them!!

Digital Underground's "Sex Packets" is to hip hop, what the Beatle's "Sgt. Peppers" was to rock & roll, as it doesn't nearly get the love it deserves. In rock, you got so many amazing concept albums, rock operas and the like, but until Sex Packets, I never really saw that in rap. Same Song is for sure one of my favorite Pac moments, as this was probably his official introduction track to the game, and a most excellent tune to boot.

Funny you mentioned Sgt Pepper. George Clinton talked extensively in his autobiography about the influence that album had on him. He spent most of his career trying to create his own Sgt. Pepper. DU was heavily influenced by PFunk.

Like many 80’s rap groups Parliament/Funkadelic was a huge influence on digital underground. The group was conceived as a rap equivalent of PFunk where there would be a parent group (or mothership) of different artist who would record solo, with spin off groups, and with DU. Just as George Clinton would perform as different characters such as Star Child & Dr. Funkenstein, Shock G took on characters like Humpty Hump and the Piano Man. It also afforded him the freedom to play piano as a character because at the time being an instrumentalist was not cool in hip hop. Money B & DJ Fuze recorded and performed as Raw Fusion. Other acts were part of the collective without being part of DU. Remember Parliament/Funkadelic also included Zapp, Bootsy’s Rubber Band and others.

Digitial Underground was a fun r&b / rap band. Shock G was the king of this swing. Brought along Tupac. This is probably the least popular of their songs. " Humpty Dance" was more popular. . But this is where Tupac got his start. I was sad when Shock G died. He was so cool.
