Spoiler- i really enjoyed the show, especially Avi's storyline. I think that was the one most carefully handled and his relationship with everyone was beautiful and complex- with his mom, with Samar, with his dad. Plus his inner turmoil with his sexuality, internalized homophobia, fear of not being normal, and the mental health aspect was beautifully shown. I did find it very odd how Amu was so totally cool with their father despite not just knowing but herself witnessing what an abusive freak he is- she saw him try to kill his brother and threaten his mom. And she stood beside Avi as he revealed the truth to the press, but the moment the dad got released she jumped back into his arms??? I know they were setting up her insecurities and jealousy of her mother from the beginning but it still seemed to be such a drastic step what she did at the end.

Just finished the series and honestly the last episode was so unsatisfying. I dont think they tried to say Amara had everything under control, just that she took the opportunity right in front of her - "dont let anyone come between you and your ambition." But this character development was so awkward. I think Anamika was low-key turning into her own version of her manipulative mother (the 'listen only to me', 'what do you know of the world' etc). Crazy how everyone conveniently forgot about Billy lmao. On the plus side, Manav Kaul was absolutely brilliant. I loved all of his scenes, his vulnerability and hurt.. so well done. His ending got me teary. I agree with you about Madhuri excelling in the scenes with her kids.

I really thought Lata did helped Anamika. It's was quite shocking to see it Amara and Manish Khanna's death was more heartbreaking then anything else in this show, though Anamika does breakdown reading about his suicide. She should've included him in the plan or atleast made sure that he is not affected by this since he was already going through depression. Absolutely agree with the title of the video last two episodes ruined it. Avi was the most genuine character on the show. The husband, mother and daughter was annoying af.

There are big glitches in the story.
    1. Anamika lives in a posh neighbourhood where it's possible that every neighbor of hers has cctv camera in their main gate. She just walked out of the house, sat on the truck and police didn't even bother to check the other houses' cctv cameras or the other cameras on the road!
    2. We saw she said in one episode to the kidnapper "how many days can you keep me like this?" And the guy also said "how many times I told you to keep the light off". He also addressed her by "tu". But he was actually working for her. So, shouldn't he address her by "aap"? These conversations clearly shows he was the kidnapper and she was kidnapped. She had bruises as if he hit her. Plus he gave her prison foods. I mean she was pretending she's kidnapped in front of the world, but why is she acting as if she's kidnapped when they're alone?
    3. Police didn't check the fingerprints of the hair stylist's house after he's dead (as you covered). Plus, he had a diary where he wrote all the orphanage's names where he was searching the crazy fan. Police didn't even find that?
    4. Let alone be a high profile case, the police acted as if a home less is kidnapped. The police lady was so damn dumb! Always angry, always shouting but did nothing. Police investigation doesn't work by thinking. It works by finding clues. Funny thing is the police lady checked anamika's dressing vehicle almost at the end but that had to be checked at the beginning. I actually thought at a point that she's the one helping the kidnapper.
This series didn't intend to make Anamika a plotter. Felt like they changed the ending suddenly after shooting the previous episodes

Omg yes especially to #2 !! When shows like this want to introduce a twist I *hate* when they try to trick the audience by putting in scenes that make no sense in the larger plot but are ONLY put there to mislead the audience. It feels like they are disrespecting the audience's intelligence. Red herrings are different - they work because you get to understand, at the end, how perspective can be manipulated to make you think one thing is happening when it is something else completely. But when she says "how long will you keep me here?" Etc - it makes no sense for her to pretend in private!!!

Delhi crime was a real investigation story and that's how police works in high profile cases. Here, they made police so damn lame, that too by a woman cop! As a woman I felt so insulted by seeing how dumb the woman cop was, her subordinate who was a man gave her a lot of hints. Issues like coming out to your family, self worth, self identity, first love, mothers bond etc. I kinda cried at the scene where maduri asks her son if he is gay. I personally believe the messed up the ending only to leave it open for a season 2.
Also anamika and Manav had such a good connection felt like such a good romance.
But at the end they failed to balance the drama and thriller part of the series was a disaster. The dramatic part like love, relationships etc did well. But the thriller part in the last 2 episode was pure garbage and lacked complete logic.
Also madhuri ma'am expression and dailouge delivery was too good. I hope to see her in more well written roles in the future.

And how is it so easy to get into her house and her bedroom to snatch a hairbrush without encountering security again?
There was elements of SRK’s fan with that guys craziness for Madhuri when she says do something so people run after you and so you don’t have to run after people.
It was engaging towards the start but by the conclusion given, it left so many loopholes like why is Madhuri acting like a prisoner when no one can see her but us? I also agree with the end. Although Anamika did cry over Manish when he committed suicide and her plan was to make her kids' future secure, the climax indicates it didn't go according to plan as with Manish's death and her daughter's flippant response when she realises Anamika is gonna blame it all on her psychotic stalker BF for her kidnapping.
But yeah, this outcome was more frustrating than satisfying as a lot of it makes no sense. The writing, staging and some of the dialogue felt superficial. It's like telling the audience the stars have it tough too you know? And you stretch that for 8 episodes, it gets annoying as hell. Which is a shame cause Madhuri Dixit does give a great performance as Anamika. And Bejoy Nambiar and Karishma Kohli's filmmaking style is pretty great but alas the content doesn't do them justice.

    Spoilers ahead ‼️
The show was so frustrating because i was really into it but the ending just spoiled it for me. Like what was the purpose of Madhav’s character?? They set him up so much and then he had such little to do towards the end. And the sudden change in the daughter’s personality? Yes she was erratic and insecure and had her issues but to just show that she is this vile person who would go to any extent for fame and attention?? Even to the point she kidnaps her own mother at the end and lol the funniest part was that old guy just taking orders from her 😭 It made absolutely no sense at all. They probably wanted to have this shock factor in the show but doesn’t mean they can just show anything and go against the character arcs and expect us to believe it. The ending really made me dislike the whole show. They had so many characters and they could have used them…madhav, manish or even billy but they chose the most non sensical plot out of it. I would rather have a believable ending than a shocking one. Also i hate that they killed manish probably one of the best characters in the show. This show was so frustrating because there were so many missed opportunities

I think they wanted to show the dynamic of mother & daughter. Towards the end Anamika behaves with Amara exactly the way Anamika 's own mother Suhasini' s character treats her throughout. They probably wanted to show that even Anamika is selfish, just like her mother. Having said that, I didn't like the ending at all but it didn't ruin the whole show for me. There are few questions which they probably & hopefully will answer in the next season

    • @ashimagupta270

@@hugebird9076 i got that they wanted to draw parallels and it was a nice thought but they didn’t build it up properly so it wasn’t good enough and didn’t have that impact. Madhuri’s character wasn’t even close to being as selfish as her mother. All she did through out the show was to protect her children. Of course the character had layers but them wanting us to believe she is similar to her own mother felt very jarring. With things like this you have to slowly build it up. Give us moments that indicate that she had this side to her all along. One can argue that there were moments of that but not enough according to me. Doesn’t help that the daughter’s character was so badly written and acted and you felt nothing for her.

Spoiler Alert: I absolutely agree with your point about Madhuri's performance. I think I have commented on another video as well, she is absolutely outstanding in her portrayal of the character. You nailed it when you spoke about her equations/scenes with her children: such an evolved portrayal of a mother is rare to come by and is perhaps a testament to some brilliant writing combined with a fine actor. The ending was most certainly a cop-out: they wanted the ending to be unexpected. Spoiler- The reveal of Amara being the helper and subsequently backstabbing her made ZERO sense. Yes she's insecure, jealous, erratic and delusional but she's still a decent nice person and you're telling me she takes such a drastic step because her ambition got the best of her? What? She said "no one's going to miss her" as she is witnessing how her brother is barely coping after losing their mom and she's just gonna let him suffer and live in the same household alone with their father who not too long ago tried to kill him? And she's okay doing all this because of 1 man she just met? Also that sex scene was so off putting- I full on expected her to be creeped out by her mom's name tattooed on Madhav's back but that turned her on????? Man wtf. They did a complete 180° with her character and it made no sense. You talked about how Anamika should've ideally used the help as her confidant and I agree, she could have even used Avi. He knew the stakes, he knew and also himself had experienced the abuse in the household, she's the first one he came out to, he is the only one she told the truth about her loving Manav to- they trusted each other immensely. He would've been so much more logical to pick to help her. Literally anybody but your erratic daughter who is perpetually jealous of you.

Thank you for your review, T&RP! I was frantically looking for it this morning and I’m so glad to see it posted. I finished the series this AM and I was very underwhelmed. I agree with you on the ending and how there were so many loose strings. One of my biggest pet peeves is characters not doing justice to their back stories or background. While you see Suhasini Mulay’s and Madhuri Dixit’s characters speak in Marathi (albeit sparsely), there’s absolutely nothing from Sanjay Kapoor’s character. He’s a lower middle Maharashtrian dude from Nagpur but he sounds nothing like it. Contrary to your opinion, I thought his acting was sub par. Very silly dialogs (repeating what’s happening or what has happened) and a monotone delivery. There was no angst that I felt. I also found it very strange how there are quick resolutions for everything - Father is not okay with the son being gay but suddenly his partner is invited to the premiere? The daughter doesn’t find her father’s behavior disgusting. She’s always rooting for him? How? You mentioned the other issues but I was really hoping for this to do justice to MD. She’s an acting powerhouse and I really wanted her to have a fantastic OTT debut but oh well! I wish they’d not made it so light on screenplay and character development.

Phew! Finally...I can voice my concerns somewhere😅 and yeah Jammy had many of them covered. I bingewatched the episodes last night but was really effected by the fact that no one investigated Billy's case and Madhav is let loose in every public place. That was such a budging error that couldn't be unseen. And yes... suicide of the only person from whom she got solace. I wished to believe that she didn't like him too...and wanted him to be erased from the canvas so as his death wouldn't make a difference to her...which could make sense. The cop's voice was so similar to Madhuri that I was confused many a times. Somehow when I saw the trailer , I felt from then that the disappearance was planned by 'the person' & not abduction.So...the revelation was not shocking. Didn't imagine that the helper would be this person though. I liked the build up for the second season...where the innocent n irritating one becomes vile...but wished they executed the sequence well.
However....Madhuri was stupendous and gorgeous and such expressions and nuances...uff!!! Perfect for the role & she totally nailed it ❤. Sanjay Kapoor convinced in his character too. And Manav obvio. All acted fine. If only there were no such jarring glitches in the screenplay and plots...this could have been perfect.

SPOILERS Don't read if you haven't seen the series.
Usually while watching I'm all for twists and turns in a story, but only when it makes sense. The fact that the person she trusted was her teenage daughter who could barely hold it together when her friend got a role she auditioned for is so confusing. I was so sure that the person helping her was the domestic help, but to see the daughter when the shutters opened was not shocking but confusing to me. So you are telling me that in a month or so she changed to that extent. The domestic help being the person Anamika trusted would have made so much more sense given that she helped her all through the series.

This story was a lot similar to many lives in Bollywood...
Coincidence or not, many things remind me of the life of THE SRIDEVI... THE GOLDEN GOOSE of the family...
Imagine Amara as Janhvi Kapoor and Ananmika as THE Sridevi... It was so easy to imagine the life of Janhvi Kapoor being overshadowed by the sheer tag of being Sridevi's daughter ..The amount of comparisons and the brutal judgement people would have made after seeing her acting skills... she would and could NEVER be as THE SRIDEVI.... . in the Final episode where Ananmika gives 5 lessons to Amra about making it big in the industry was like a check list done by Janhvi after the sad demise of THE Sridevi....
The mystery behind the sudden death of Sridevi ( here the disappearance) , the amount of sympathy for the family and Janhvi , a producer husband living on the money of a Superstar wife, sounds familiar....
Love story between Anamika and Manish was a lot like the secret love life of Rekha and Amithab or Dimple and Sunny Deol..... like how the idea of hit pair meeting and rekindling their old love life years later was so similiar ... We would like to see a movie with Rekha and Amitki please...

From what I remember, there was a scene in the final episode, of Anamika crying, and there was a newspaper next to her which mentioned Manish Khanna's death.
And now, my own rant about this series:
The romantic angle between Amara and Madhav made no sense. The initial intentions of Madhav made sense, as he was trying to find if he was Anamika Anand's son or not. But once he found out that he isn't, he still continued to be around the family? I get it that he probably genuinely liked Amara as a person, but it looked forced. Maybe this is something reserved for Season 2? idk
One thing I also felt was toooooo many subplots. I binged watched this series and while I liked it, I ended up with a headache with the number of subplots going on in one show.

Agree with most about the ending being frustrating. Definitely a lot of scenes and plot twists that don't make sense. Hopefully season 2 ties it all nicely in a bow. In the meantime, here's my interpretation about the some of character (script choices). The makers may or may not have gone that deep but this is how I rationalize it. Perhaps Anamika's reasons for making her daughter the confidante was 1. Wanting to "rescue" an emotionally unstable daughter who seemed to have zero self-worth (also evident in her choice of sleeping with her Mother's stalker). Perhaps there was some guilt she experienced for outshining her own daughter? 2. May be she was trying to teach her the ropes of surviving the industry and so making her an accomplice was the only way but she didn't expect her daughter to betray her. Why did the daughter choose to betray her Mum over Dad? perhaps her own envy always gave her a soft corner for Dad over Mum-(please no hate because this is a dark thought but may be on some level the daughter enjoyed it when her gorgeous mother was mistreated by Dad) No disrespect to the actor but I did find it interesting that they chose someone who barely looks like her gorgeous mother (even without makeup Anamika/MD both as an adult and the actor playing teen Anamika were more attractive than the whiny daughter so it might've been a deliberate choice.

    SPOILER
I think Madhuri was trying to be smart/careful by entrusting her plan with someone who would gather least suspicion but was a safe bet, hence the daughter. Little did she realise her daughter would soon outwit her, to use it to her own advantage.
There were subtle hints of the daughter shedding her outer skin/ persona, with the outburst on stage "accepting" that naivety leads to no-where, learning that lies are common place if you want to get to where you want to be (towards the finale realising Madhuri did not confide her intent of implicating Nikhil in the process, may have also revived her memory where Madhuri lied to Nikhil about visiting Manav's mansion).
She was quiet headstrong in her ambition to become the actress, and I see a beautiful juxtaposition, that Madhuri essayed her most convincing performance with her own kidnapping(as stated by the police) but is the daughter truly a better artist since she pulled off her part to the T. The student has become the master.
Also, though not shown, the daughter realises that her father is more useful to her in helping achieve her ambitions, hence irrespective of his treatment of her brother, she still maintains ties with him. A character that appears nice and good at the surface but is truly diabolical! An existing narcissist behaviour with no empathy (even for her brother) has now matured to tame it to her advantage. Would love to see that character at its peak in Season 2.
Agree that Billy's unsolved murder is a gaping hole.

Don't know.. i felt it's very slow screenplay.. like the story is based on thin wafer and its been stretched.. also, in 3rd episode it suddenly came to me that it seems all planned by Anamika herself just to get her movie blockbuster. In my view, the series could have been easily finished in 6 episodes. And yes, in next season please kill this Madhav character which is just as fictionally written as the guy is acting.

In the end, when Amara and Anamika are talking it felt like Anamika became the person she hates - her mother. After the final reveal that it was all planned, I felt like Anamika herself has become the manipulative and selfish person. What hurt me the most was Manish Khanna's death and how there was not even a single shot which showed the pain Anamika felt (if any).

@@hugebird9076 but those scene might not be true. Because if you see initially it felt like she is held against her will and she is struggling to run away etc. But when the truth comes out the scenes we saw previously were totally different. For example- she tried to cut the iron bar in the small window in that house, but she took help from her kidnapper itself. That's the reason her crying at the news of Manish's death does not hold credit in my eyes. I couldn't not trust if she actually cried or the makers showed that as part of the false narrative they were building to portray Anamika as victim.

Anamika’s charecter in the first few episodes is wonderful . The ending was awful , this needed atleast 5 more episodes & an entirely different conclusion. A mother who does so much for her family will never abandon them . She would never put her son , who committed suicide a few months ago, through this & drag him through such a mess. Spoilers follow
I think the fact that Anamika had staged the whole thing was obvious a couple of episodes in, and there was some foreshadowing -
+ It was clear it was someone inside the house since the cameras were off and there were no signs of a break in
+ The creepy guys brings up the interview that Anamika gave talking about wanting to leave everything behind
+ You can see Anamika slowly getting more annoyed with her husband and mom and wanting to get out of their clutches. This becomes clear when she hears about how they mis-managed her finances and she starts trying to take more control.
+ To the above point she realises she can’t trust everyone close to her when she discovers that Billy (who is like her brother) told the tabloid journalist about her sons suicide attempt.
+ Anamika clearly has a dark side and is capable of manipulating people. She pretends to believe the creepy guy (I forgot his name) that he is her son, to get away safely and then has him beaten up.
Having said all that completely agree with the other things you pointed out -
+ Her involving her naive young daughter (who is clearly not stable) over her domestic help in this big game of deception is really dumb
+ Not even worrying about the impact she’s having on Manav Kauls character - apparently she has been in love with him for over 20 years, but doesn’t tell him about her plan and just ghosts him. This is despite knowing about his mental health issues and how much he has started depending on her again.
+ The daughter falling in love with the random guy, and him having such easy access to her. Another thing that irks me is how easy it was for that guy to get into Anamika’s trailer and later her house. This has to be most unrealistic thing since Fan - but at least in Fan the guy looked similar to the superstar so you could mildly suspend some disbelief.

I guess that's what they wanted to show & that's why the helper was the naive daughter and not the domestic help. Still the ending was totally off & I couldn't connect with it

Also trying hard to hold on to the looks which receive so much praise. She was broken when Manish died, but when she plans to return, she starts applying her makeup again because she has to act again... Her daughter is in love with Madhav, and when she came to know that her mother gonna blame him and already framed Nikhil (her dad) she betrayed her mother... & Madhav is also in love with Amara and yes he is a psycho... Completely agree to all points including your rant. But Anamika did cry after seeing the death of Manish Khanna in the newspaper. But what was weird was there was nothing in her eyes as she was getting ready at the end of the last episode when she interacted with her daughter. That felt empty. And I don't think the daughter was in charge of any of this, Anamika was; but the daughter flipped a switch at that last minute. And that was soooo far fetched, seriously.
Completely agree that Anamika should have taken the help of her aunt/companion rather than Amara.
The psyco fan and Amara's plot line was bad, really.
Also, why do that to Manav Kaul's character. We should be able to write complicated stories without killing characters that are important to the protagonist. It is such a cliche trope.
Even Billy, why do that to him? There was an arc that needed finishing there too. Why did he leak the info to that journalist if he cared about Anamika always? We never understood that. If he didn't care about her then why go looking for Madhav? There was a possibility for a good redemption arc there which was not completed. Consequences needn't lead to death.
The way it ended, I doubt I will to go back to S2. But I might for Madhuri Dixit. She is the GOAT.
