    The pre ww2 CS map is incorrect. It is missing the “zakarpatska rus” this land was taken away from CZ after ww2 and added to soviet union.

    Ok, I got curious after watching the part II video and have to say this one is much better. By the way, the reason Hitler was angry was because he didn't expect the Czechoslovak government to agree to the Munich terms. His intention all along was to occupy the whole of Czechia, and use the border issue as a casus belli. So he felt trapped about how he could now justify annexing an area that was overwhelmingly Czech.

    There is more to the betrayal. Poland took a bite as well.

    • @DavidJGillCA
      @DavidJGillCA 2 года назад +2

      Yes, and it was very foolish of the poles to participate in the dismemberment of Czechoslovakia because it gave the Germans, who were in fact solely responsible for this outrage, a useful cover to anyone who sought to point out that NAZI aggression was responsible. Poland had its own problems with a corrupt right-wing military government that failed to understand what was happening. And we know that President Benes of Czechoslovakia agreed to cede some disputed territories to Poland to deny them to Germany.

    In Icelandic, when you have R on end of the word, it sounds very close to Czech Ř.
    Finally someone nicely explained 1938 problem in English, I see how foreigners completely don't understand it, they are saying Czechs were nazi allies and such nonsenses.
    BTW, something like Sudeten German never existed before, it was 100% artifical therm created by nazis if I am not wrong. They wanted some reason why that region should be part of Germany, but it was all lies, it was always part of Czech lands.

      @@Osterochse My point was that when you are going to some palce or region, it's better do say "I am going to Liberec" or other city or place, instead of constantly saying that nonsense with suddetenland, it's precise similar as if I would say "I am going to Europe." Even if I admit that name Sudety is legit and not nazi, it's too general, it can be everywhere.

    Your map of Czechoslovakia belong to this topic is wrong, your map is as it was after WW2 and after SSSR take Karpatian Ukraine. You mention industrial and economical power, fun facts 1) between wars Czechoslovakia belong to 3 most weapon industry states in the world (artillery, guns, tanks, planes, cars) and couple of years been number 1 in the world, 2) between states affected by financial crisis in 1930s Czechoslovakia was only one in the world economicaly strong enough not even one bank go bankrupt (also Russia, but Soviets been out of western world economic system at that time). Interesting documentary with contemporary witnesses of occupation ruclips.net/video/esApiEdAebw/видео.html especially at 29:45 they are talking about German soldiers in Prague think they was in heaven because of Prague and Czechoslovakia wealth.

      Stasek, thank you for your detailed comments - very informative, I will check it out. Without doubt the Nazis wanted to get the hands on the Czech Military manufacturing capability - many Czechs have told me that škoda tanks were far better than anything the Nazis as the Skoda tanks ended up being Panzers. In addition, the British licensed a version of the Czechoslovak ZGB 33 light machine gun to make the Bren light machine gun. So, the Czechs skill at manufacturing military equipment is clear. I also do mention that Czechslovakia was one of ten most industrialised nations - and successful economies of the inter war years - but it was affected by the depression, too. That aside, in this video, I just wanted to focus on the key characters and key events from the Czech point of view - and why they felt betrayed.

      @@belkolam If you think Ř and RZ is same sound, then you can't really know Polish or Czech language. Or maybe you know only some Polish dialect from some border region. RZ is somewhere between our ř and Polish ż. But in some words (like rzeka), it's very close to czech Ř, but very depends on speaker and his dialect or accent.

      Mirinovic, once again thank you for your comments. In my research (links in the description) they authors would agree with you. In a depression, no-one has the money to buy goods, so you would expect Liberec - a glass-making region, to be affected by the down turn. In the video, I do show the areas close to the Polish, German and Austrian borders in the second VO - I also show a map with the areas marked in black. If, that is still not clear do come back to me. Also, perhaps you could put some links to your sources. Best. MG
