Explain By Example: OLTP vs OLAP

- TL;DR:
Watch OLTP vs OLAP explained using a simple school analogy.
I had so much fun making the first video that I decided to start on the second one shortly after.
If you have read the actual blog post for this topic which is on OLTP vs. OLAP, you would notice that at the end I mention a section that describes the difference between normalisation vs. denormalisation. I originally planned to incorporate it into this video and even made all the animations and voice over but upon review, I decided I hated it. It was an awful example and I'm not sure why no one told me off for using it.
So, if you're wondering what happened to that section, there is a reason why it is missing. I suppose when you review old content you made almost two years ago, there are a lot of self-reflection (and possibly regrets) involved so I'll save you the horror even though it was only an extra minute long.
Thanks for watching. Remember to thumbs up/down, subscribe, and leave a comment below!

I’m stuck very confused. Is the only difference where they search for the data? Do one from a database with current quick information and the other a data warehouse with more in depth and broadly sought after reasoning for the answer?
OLTP is at the transaction grain. Is primarily used for applications and operations.
OLAP is analytic and is aggregated for creating analytical reporting such as KPI or metric dashboards so is at a categorical level.
OLTP DB might say these are all the transactions from this store and have a row for each sale.
An OLAP Data-warehouse would say last month we sold X number of this product. It might only have a row for each products monthly total.
5:55 is the part that I really want to hear !!!!
I don't learn about olap but I learn about data ware house and database 😅
❤
Thanks i am more con now
What a stupid example
