Should Formula 1 return to Fuji?

- The Japanese Grand Prix was last held at Fuji Speedway in 2008. And while Suzuka is adored by all, should Fuji be given another shot at life in the F1 schedule? Well...that's why we're all here, eh?

They should do a 'Asian Grand Prix' the same way they did the European Grand Prix for a while

@@aj8671 Korea is quite a good track. 2010s race was really good, and it only ever hosted 3 GPs so it would be interesting to see if it will deliver some more good races or if 2010 was a exception. Shame the city that should have been build around it never happened.
@@ams4490 buddh will never probably host an F1 event again.
Kind of funny they built the track for stock cars and when NASCAR finally came over in the 1990s they went to Suzaka .
And Motegi
And to further twist the knife to Fuji, after NASCAR's deal with Suzuka is done, they went with Motegi instead because Honda built an oval complex at Motegi. They even ran a championship race for what is now ARCA West at Motegi in 1999, the only NASCAR championship race hosted in Asia to this day (Calder Park 1988 was an exhibition)
In hindsight, going to Fuji in 1998 could be a PR disaster for NASCAR seeing that it's the same year as Tetsuya Ota's infamous crash there...

I think they should bring back the Pacific Grand Prix at Fuji. I love Fuji as a track and F1 should definitely go there. It's a mix of Portimao and the Nurburgring.
Suzuka is one of the greatest tracks ever, so definitely shouldn't disappear from F1. But if Fuji was added as a second Japanese race, I'd have nothing against that.
Love Suzuka but I'd happily see a return to it rotating with Fuji. In a perfect world we'd have both (and Honda wouldn't be leaving 😢) but F1 is F1.
There's no such thing as "F1 being F1"... everything happens for a reason.
@@YourFavouriteDraugr But that reason is the wrong reason. Instead we will get Saudi GP and I bet places like Qatar or Dubai will have their own GPs too soon.
Honda's technically not leaving. RedBull will still use the base Honda Power Unit, but they will pretty much start their own power train team around it. Yes, as a second GP in Japan. Pacific GP would be a total hit.
Fuji is awesome, played so often in GT5
how you explain is gold
Based on how Fuji Speedway was in 2007 and 2008, for the infrastructure issues, the poor sighting of seats (where some of those who attended paid good money to have no view of the track) and from a driving perspective, it's very frustrating to drive. Herman Tilke himself admitted that the slow off camber corners that make up the third sector were there to extend the lap time and it disrupts the rhythm of the track, not good
It would be nice to see Fuji on calendar especially being an initial D fan
"be sure to like this video if you.... liked it" is 100% my favourite outro i've ever heard.
I have one special remembrance to the 2008 GP: Bridgestone marked their option tyres with a white stripe in the middle of the tyre back then. However, they decided to use a green stripe to mark their efforts for environmental protection or something on this race weekend.
The problem was: After just a few laps with a beginning graining this green stripes (on black tyres) more and more disappeared and our German TV commentators got more and more distracted from this circumstance. In the end, it was completely impossible to prove which tyre was used on which car - the prime or the option.
Awesome to hear BFM. I had no idea Japan wanted a stock car series.
The big safety issue with the banking was unlike most (if not all?) other Superspeedways - and you can see it in some of the footage - at Fuji the cars dropped down into the banking off the end of the straight, where usually they would climb up into it. This made the cars very light and in some cases for faster sports cars they’d become airborne... which didn’t end well.
Man worked with bfm fuck yeah. Two great guys, one great video!
WEC did give us a banger race at Fuji in 2015, Porsche vs Audi LMP1 was a joy to watch
I forgot F1 sometimes allowed boats to race in their calendar. 😆🤣
Someone at NASCAR must of been an secret otaku because they actually went back there and raced at the suzuka east course and at the Motegi Oval
1:17 ah yes, thanks for clarifying that that is a race track Josh
I loved this circuit in Gran Turismo as a kid. Because this is the only track with, you guessed it, SHORTCUTS!
The Duo we didn't expect. But we needed
I wish they could have done something to keep the circuit as close to possible as the original, because that layout was soo good. Extremely fast but very challenging
Maybe they should try racing at Motegi. Ok yes yes I know IndyCar races at Motegi (the oval) already and having both racing at the same circuit is weird BUT think of the racing at the road course!
Fujimi is OK but Suzuka is awesome! I got used to driving it on Gran Turismo and it is a challenge for anyone.
not a f1 level circuit, but motegi is such a good track. you can see most of the corners from its grandstand, great battle with stop and go layout with 2 long straights, love watching super gt, superformula, and indycars. (yup you heard that right)
My understanind with that banked turn was that the major issue is that the cars dropped into the banked turn rather than what you see in say Daytona where the cars travel up in the banked turn
My man BFM is featured

I go to Fuji Speedway for some casual track driving about once a month. I really like the circuit, the venue as a whole and the scenery around... I think it would be spectacular for F1. It *is* a bit remote though, and I can imagine the people logistics being a challenge.
Short answer: yes. Long answer: Hell to the YES!!!
One of my favourite circuits. I think it should be in F1.
Holy hell, tilke being responsible for designing the 2005 fuji layout change explains alot. I remember back in one of the early gran turismo games the new (at the time) 2005 version of the track was included (along w the previous layouts we been enjoying in the GT games before) and me hating the new last sector of the new track with all the random tight bendy turns and elevation changes. I always thought who the hell’s idea was it to change the last section to this?! This sucks! Now it makes sense lmao
You should do a video on the AIDA circuit which hosted the Pacific Grand Prix in 94 and 95.
After watching Super GT and Super Formula and also driving alot on it: It's my favourite track in the world, closely followed by Spa-Franchorchamps.
It just got that beautiful mountainous and green atmosphere. I'd take Fuji everyday over tracks like COTA or even stuff like Monza, Brasil and Nürburg.
I loved playing on this track in other games
Great vid before Covid came in to play. I went to see race is at Fuji and it’s Suzuka at least three times a year. Once you get to Fuji it’s a great track accessibility at the track is fantastic walking around it excellent vantage points great and the fact that you can actually camp track side is amazing. And the racing is absolutely incredible at Fuji. The problem with Fuji is getting to the track mountain roads slow driving it’s not how would you say interstate friendly. But once you get to the track it’s amazing. But I can understand that they don’t want to cut huge swaths of interstate into the Fuji area just for a race track,
The two races at Fuji were very good, having both Suzuka and Fuji on the calendar would be fun, but we may also need roughly an extra 10 weekends for racing per year if we want all the tracks possible on one F1 calendar...
Extra ten weeks? You mean, have a race every single week of the year with the amount of tracks F1 fans want back. Fuji, Istanbul, Watkins Glen, Kyalami, and on and on
Played this track on Project Cars 2. I like the course however I struggle in the inner loop at Dunlop.
To answer the question in the title: yes
They should do a couple of 'joker rounds' per season. Example for a 22 race calendar: keep like 20 rounds full time and 2 rounds that alternate each year but maybe at a reduced cost for the organisers. That way, we could go one year to Imola and Nurbirgring, and to Fuji and Portimao the other, Mugello and Malaysia another year, etc... It would mix up the calendar a bit every year, whitout removing the classic races.
