Tatiana Calderon is one of the most well-known female drivers in the world today. She is a test driver for the Alfa Romeo Formula 1 team and currently drives in the Super Formula series in Japan. However, is the hype that surrounds Calderon warranted? In this video, I seek to find the answer.

Is she a good driver?
Compared to me: Yes
Compared to her peers: Nah
Yep.
She's also trying to do too much. Indycar, F3, MRF challenge, world series formula v8, F2, le mans series, super formula, and now she wants to get into WEC as well. She changes series every year, or two years, and even when she doesn't switch series, she switches teams. Just as she gets used to the machinery, its time to learn a new one, almost always in a new culture, in a new country, often in a new continent. She is 27, in March she'll be 28, these are the best years of her racing life, she needs to find some series she really likes and stick with it...
This guy gets it
compared to raghunathan which i prob spelled wrong: yes
@@csanadhorvath Most likely she is and has been overestimating her own potential and skills as a racing driver. Perhaps in her mind, she regards herself as the next Michele Mouton. She is nowhere near to be an oustanding racer, and myself being Colombian, I can tell that she is not highly recognized in our home country at all. Sadly, not even the best Colombian racing driver ever, Juan Pablo Montoya, receives the respect and admiration earned through an exceptional legacy.
AND many people like to shit about ''diversity'' even though it's not like anyone's stopping females from racing, they just don't want to, or can't keep up, because the average woman is biologically less strong than the average male, and one more thing, If Danica Patrick was a male, she wouldn't be heard of in motorsports, ever.

@@AceShadowbloodcivic they're all pretty fast. Everything is relative. Josh makes it sound like they're all 20 minutes per lap off of the pace because it's better for the videos, but in reality, all of these drivers are likely faster than he is

Josh is comedic genius 🤣
I mean there is Chris Miller, David Ostella, Nick Andries and Juan Pedrahita, but there is also Caio Lara, so...
The black screen moment when mentioning Hubert was a nice touch. My brain still does that whenever he's mentioned in this type of context. A sort of 'oh fuck that's still true' moment.
paired with a mid roll ad... 🤮
F1 had Senna vs Prost, F2 had Calderon vs Lord Mahaveer 😎
It was a fierce battle, to be honest. 👊😎
Well both were compelling, but for...vastly different reasons.
atleast both was better than delledda
@Subkash Mahaveer is not in F1 because he would win races that wouldn't even happen yet and he would win races that already happened. If he was in F1, the space time continum would collapse. That is why, he is too powerful for this or even upper plane of existence. Long story short: Mahaveer Ragunathan would be too powerful for Formula 1.
She is not that bad😭😭😂
My video ideas:
-WTF happened to Pascal Wehrlein?
-Why do (former) F1 drivers go to IndyCar?
-What will happen to Jack Aitken?
-Josh's F2 2021 predictions
-WTF happened to Charles Pic and Max Chilton?
-Josh's dream F2 grid for 2022
-Josh's dream f1 calender
-best F1 drivera of the 70s
I think chilton is doing quite well in Indy, or Indy lights?
But yeah I'd watch that.
also What happened to even older drivers, Like Jos Verstappen, or Prost (who did like ice-racing and stuff for a long time)
A WTF happened to Dale Earnhardt would also be good. //spoiler : It won't be a happy ending//
Or bring back best drivers of each decade back
I’m pretty sure Wehrlein is going good in Formula E
How about a WTF happened to Logan Sargeant (seeing as his F1 dream is pretty much dead and much like Daruvala to India he's one of the US's best single seater talents in years)
@@ForeverF1 Yeah a contract as a works driver for Porsche doesnt Sound bad
9th in the 24hr is a really impressive feat imo for that team. If I was any of those drivers, I'd be looking towards WEC as a career.
I have to give Tatiana a "tip of the hat" for her performance in the Indy GP today. She finished 16th out of 27 & on the lead lap in constantly changing weather/track surface conditions. She didn't throw it off of the track or take anybody out: Something that too many others can't claim this evening. :)
yep, at the same time her teammates. kirkwood was doing s🅱inallas and kellett crashed as usual. It's ironic how Calderon is ahead of kellett in the point standings even though he already spent two years in Indycar + some years in the feeder series not to mention she missed the Texas race too.

Hey, Colombian here, I wanted to give some insight about our motorsports situation and Tatiana Calderón.
First and foremost, Colombia is a poor country when it comes to motorsports, there´s few options really to get noticed unless you go abroad. Montoya did this correctly and because he pretty much said many times that he wasn't very thankful to the Colombian sports association, he's not very liked here, unless you're a die-hard racing fan. The only sport that is supported here is football and BMX only if your name is Mariana Pajón.
That being said, as much as I'd like to see another Montoya being an absolute beast in CART-Indycar and F1, Calderón is not it. She's really solid and has shown progress, but much like young drivers in NASCAR, she's being rushed just for marketing sake. I fear that she's gonna become the next Danica Patrick and we know how that ended. I see Tatiana Calderón becaming a solid sports car racer, either in IMSA or the LeMans series. Formula 1 or Formula 2 worthy? Not, unless she really has a break trhough season.
Alfa Romeo/Sauber is just making her a marketing tool and there's nothing wrong with it, but she really should focus in other disciplines and excell there, like sports cars where she can stay for a long time and prove her worth. I don't want to see another Danica, much less coming from my country where very few drivers even got a chance or others just fade away, like Carlos Muñoz or Gustavo Yacamán. At this point, Colombia's best next prospect is Sebastián Montoya, but Calderón can be a great pole bearer for our flag in other racing series, if she commits to them instead of marketing her as the next female F1 driver.
Yeah I think sportcars is probably the best place for her. I don't think her year racing LMP2 was too bad
And ciclying
She being supported by Escuderia Telmex program, the ame program that supports Sergio Perez all their way to F1, along with Pietro and Enzo Fittipaldi, we may see her end on LMP/GT or WTCR racing, if not a strong LATAM series like the NASCAR Mexico, Brazilian Stock car or any Argentina series, her effort has been amazing through time
Also Colombian here: let's not fool ourselves, Tatiana is where she is and has the kind of support she has only because of her family name. She's related to our ex-president and her family has a very strong economic and political influence thanks to their relation with the Sergio Arboleda University. She has received an amount of support that no other driver in this country ever has, not even Juan Pablo Montoya himself...and the only guy he could beat in F2 was Mahaveer Ragunathan? Give me a break.
Some say Montoya's dad had to get a mortgage on his house in Prado in order to afford his kid's racing career in Europe and if Juan Pablo failed then that would've put the family in dire straits. But the Calderons? Money is no object for them, specially considering their university is basically an unofficial think-tank for our current right-wing government.
It's a shame, there's a great love for motorsports here and plenty of talent both in terms of drivers and mechanics. But there is just no investment: it's all corruption, football and more corruption. The Colombian Motorsports Federation (FCAD) is fucking useless and only cares about screwing amateur championships and taking credit for what Colombian drivers do overseas. At this rate, like you said, our only F1 hope would be Montoya's son...and, like his father, he'll have nothing to thank our country for.
my Karting coach is a good driver

Yes, we need a Will Buxton video!
Appreciate the fair takes, these videos are great. Still rough to relive the Weldon race though
What is it with mediocre drivers and failing upward? "See that driver who's been in GP3 for three years with only 20 points to her name? She'd be perfect for our F2 seat!"
Depends on the driver. For this case, I'd honestly say its for PR about getting a female driver in. Same reason Danica was allowed to stay in Nascar so long despite crashing most races and actively starting fights with random people she blamed for her mistakes
The answer is sponsor money. We live in a culture that weirdly tells us that gender is a social construct, yet will reward people based on their gender alone. It’s the corporate culture now unfortunately.
*cross my palm with silver...*
All college students with debt: "I don't have enough superliscence points just yet"

The slo-mo "BRUU~UH!" gets me more... XD
These are for sure your best work! Love these videos.
I think what could be really cool would be to make a video about a benchmark "rise through the ranks" so it were, to give reference to the performance of these lesser known drivers (how they compare to the likes of a Charles Leclerc or George Russel for example)
Man 😂 when you said Bogotá as “bergowter” had me in stitches
I'm surprised she even got an F2 seat (money of course). She definetely has no future in F1.
I don't think it is monies.. it is PC.. this horrible "ooow aaaw woman are just as good as men"
@@Coen80 well, that only works if they are any good so..
And maybe because she is a woman which is great for marketing in the 2010s and 20s. Like the teams could always say : we make the sport more diverse!
If *Mahaveer Raghunathan* could get a seat, I see no reason why it seems surprising for Calderon to get one.

Aaaaaand she's back in F2 lol
Always happy to see a new video of yours, keep it up mate :)
She legit got less points than Lord Mahaveer, I think that sums up if she's any good or not...
Well but her her junior career is more impressive
she isn't a bad driver. But being "not bad" is not enough to get a test driver spot at an F1 team. It is obvious that they are just using her for good pr, because of her gender. Jamie Chadwick, Beitske Visser are so much better, why not give them a chance instead? Sophia Flörsch, and Vivien Keszthelyi just turned 20 years old, they would have so much more potential than a 27, next month 28 (!) year old Calderon. Ah well, she has colombian money, and we see with Raghunathan and Deledda as well, that money solves everything. I just think that if you want a girl there so bad, for whatever reason, at least choose the best one, the one that girls can look up to, not one who has 20 points in 3 years of F3.
Well... if here in Polombia have so much money... she perhaps she would be in Williams instead of Latify. But nop. Polombia is a third world country... so she doesn't have enough money to push her to F1. In fact, she almost was drop from F2 before Spa, 'cause she hadn't enough money to pay the rest of the season.
@@csanadhorvath yeah I totally agree

@@Rainaman- Maya Weug was signed for Ferrari Driver academy so maybe there is hope
@@Rainaman- It's a numbers game. Motorsport requires someone to start really young, and have a lot of money. There's also no denying that it's a very male-dominated sport. So until more girls get into karting, you probably won't see any large increases in women in F2.
@@Rainaman- Jamie Chadwick?
that was really smooth ad transition josh, NGL
I think the fact she's avoided W Series is quite telling, personally, I think the likes of Jamie Chadwick would consistently outpace her. She's not a bad driver by any measure, but I think SuperFormula and maybe Formula E (although that's getting better each season) will be the sum of her career.
