She was going through a really tough time making this album. She was dealing with depression and was in a abusive relationship. She was really pouring her heart and soul in this album which makes it an R&B classic.
It sounds different because they had to change the "key" of the song to match Mary's vocal range. The song was written in a key that Mary doesn't sing to naturally.
@@njnatl09 faith first album is DEFINITELY a classic! I love her 3rd album as well tho, it’s been on repeat all week “I love you” “faithful interlude” “Do Your Time” “brand new man” “where we stand” are my favorites from her 3rd!
Let's get something straight, Mary J Blige was the queen of Hip Hop and R& B back in the '90s, in fact her style of music completely changed how R&B singers were making their songs at the time. Aaliyah wouldn't have been doing what she was doing had it not been for the inspiration of Mary J blige's what's the 411. Please put some respect on the Queen's name!
As someone who loves samples and hearing the original versions that get reworked, the fact there were so many samples on this album isn’t a bad thing in my opinion...
Hey Jammin, if you havent discovered by now, most of the 90s hip/R&B music was samples from the 70s and 80s...smh. Some of it was creative but Puffy was very lazy in his productions. He made a lot of money doing it but still.....
Roy Ayers is the most sampled artist in the history of hip hop. This is a fact. Most people just don't know his catalog but look it up. I love Mary but her 2nd album was just full of Puff sampling classic R&B loops and remakes. It was ridiculous.
@@andyc6542 sampling and beat jacking are two different things. Puff is a beat/song jacker. He even said it in his own lyrics "take beats from the 80s but make em sound so crazy." Primo, Pete Rock, RZA, etc are samplers in that they take elements of a song and create something new. Yeah, when done right, it's a great thing.
@@Israel-nb7ip Agreed. Puffy was wack for that. That "Shiny Suit" era was the downfall of hip-hop. I think it was Questlove who said that once label executives started rapping, he knew that hip-hop was in trouble.
Sorry but not true....James Brown and his band are the most sampled artists in hiphop....its not even close....i love Roy Ayers but i just dont know where you are getting your info from bro....Roy Ayers wouldnt even qualify in the top 50 of all time most sampled artist.....again love Roy Ayers but you are wrong on those facts
Mary and Mariah Carey were known as the remake queens in their early careers....although both had fantastic voices they would basically sing over sampled tracks....people hated that back then.....it was as if the new artists were stealing work already done and not giving credit to the actual artists that did all the original work....the producers would just lay a beat over old tracks and call it their own....the real talent of sampling came when artists and producers could manipulate 5 secs or so of a sample and warp the sound to make a brand new sound....i just find it so disrespectful to all the original artists that put in all the hard work to have the newer artist just rap or sing over a original song....to this generation James Brown and other artists sued the record companies in the 80s when sampling first emerged and won....it a long history about sampling that this generation needs to read up on...hell just google and all the info you need is right there...RESEARCH
But one thing Bout MJB and MC was they have credit or payed homage to the original artists-I couldn’t understand why people who give MJB or MC for remakes when the Gr8s (Aretha, Patti, And Whitney all did remakes) hell Whitney made a remake one biggest songs of ALL time
This song got me through a lot! My favorite Mary song!
- Best Mary J Blige album ever!!!!!!
- She rode this sample the best... IMO
really? ik it’s subjective but i think what’s the 411 has more great songs
@@benanthony8048 What's The 411 is a great album... I just like this one better.
This song is a Classic 🔥 I would say this Mary’s most known song next to Family Affairs, Not Gon Cry, Real Love & Be Without You
MARY IS THE QUEEN OF SOUL IN THE NINTIES AND 2000. IF I ATTENDED CONCERTS, I WOULD PAY TO SEE HER.
You definitely have to review the whole “My Life” album! You won’t be sorry!
Yes, Roy Ayer’s. Isn’t it wonderful to hear and know the original vs new tracks?
She was going through a really tough time making this album. She was dealing with depression and was in a abusive relationship. She was really pouring her heart and soul in this album which makes it an R&B classic.
Teedra Moses also sampled "Everybody Loves the Sunshine" on her song You're So Different
This is my favorite MJB song.

YOUR CHANNEL IS SO SMOOTH...THANKS
Where’s all my 90’s babies?
98
SHE KNOWS WHAT SHE IS SING ABOUT.
Aaliyah: One In A Million
Mary J Blige: My Life
Mariah Carey: Butterfly
The 3 best female r&b albums of the ENTIRE 90s in my opinion!
I agree!! Gotta add Brandy's Never Say Never to this.
Faith first album is a classic

Andy C your absolutely correct she kilt every sample on this album that’s how you pay homage to a sample hands down !! #classic
Gotta do "be happy' from the same album, do the album version not the music video
Yes please
This the Original that everyone else has sampled.
Mary J Blige would go up against anyone in a Verzuz.
Kells?
Fun fact: Faith Evans is singing on the background of the hook with Mary.
Ps.: I knew of always the sunshine from Mary sampling it with this song tbh
Faith only sang on three tracks and this isn't one of them.
BRO please do Marvin Gaye “I want you” classic song
Do “be with you” off that same album by mary j blige
This is great, but I just wanna go listen to Roy Ayers right now.
