The Monochrome Memoirs - I just wanna use it for my dog and my daughter it’s my first camera so at night ....1st camera daughter and my dog you are saying yes or no? Please
THANKS for this. I have the Z6 and use the D500 as its backup. Looking for something that I can carry around other than my point and shoot. You know, just something with a little more.
I am very curious about the in video editing probably basic but if it's halfway decent that's a great little detail that a lot of cameras forgot.. I got a point to Rico gxr in gr for this when it comes to the stills the ability to edit in camera on those things it's truly amazing and I don't know why no other camera companies have ever implemented such features.. you should try playing around with an old Rico gxr the Leica Mount sensor which can easily be adapted to anything MD m42 etc. The ability to adjust every color. Hl ,shadow etc in camera and produce a jpeg was truly groundbreaking.. Hasselblad is producing a new modular system way above my price range but I'm pretty sure I know where they got the idea from. A ten-year-old modular Ricoh GXR
So I want to record surf videos should be good right??? I already bought this camera but I have 6 days to return and get the d7500 instead for surf video please help!!!
The low light, subject movement issue can really just be chalked up to having a smaller sensor and no mechanical sensor stabilization (which freezes camera shake, not subject movement). It's what you're paying for when you buy a Z50, which is part of why it's a sub $1000 body. Naturally, owners can make it work for their needs; APS-C DSLR shooters have done just fine for years. Realistically, no camera checks all the boxes and expectations need to be tapered accordingly to the limitations and design intent of the hardware. Still grants access to all the S-line primes, although shooting with a range of those on a crop sensor Z50, even just from a cost perspective, would be more of a user choice than anything else. The 20mm f1.8 or even the 24mm f1.8 would make for a good handheld blog camera with the flip down screen (personal opinion: that should have been a D5k series flip out screen). But realistically, it's best as a highly portable, take anywhere ICL body with the kit pancake lens that provides all the benefits of mirrorless systems that as an added bonus, can still use all your F mount glass.
Just made the change from d5300 to this. They are on totally different level and should not be mentioned on a same sentence. Like changing from a 1.6 liter car engine to 2.0 liter turbo and we all know it’s still not a V8 twin turbo.
Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video about the Nikon Z50 and your insightful comments about its limitations and its strengths. I am not a professional photographer but rather an enthusiastic amateur, and have been using Nikon cameras for about 7 years. I own a D500, Z6, and recently purchased the Z50. I was under no illusions about the Z50, even before I bought it. I expected it to be somewhat inferior to the Z6 in low light, simply based on the fact that it is an aps-c camera. No surprises there. However, after using this camera for the last 6 weeks I am extremely satisfied with so many things about it. As you say, it really is a JOY to use! I consider it a fantastic camera for what it was intended to be. Let me just add one thing that you might have omitted about the Z50. The extreme lightweight of the camera body and lenses make this an absolutely fantastic camera for traveling. The total weight of the body and the combined 2 kit lenses is just a little over 2 lbs. Incredible, because the the kit lenses cover a focal range of 16 - 250mm (24-375 mm ff equiv), and the 50-250 kit lens is surprisingly sharp! IMO, the Z50 with the 2 kit lens package is THE BEST value hybrid camera system available for travel. That is the main reason what I bought it, and I think there are probably MANY Nikon users out there who having been waiting years for Nikon to release a camera system like the Z50. Something that is an absolute joy to use and to travel with.
I’ve just got the Z50 (before seeing this video). It’s still early days getting used to it but I love it. As for low light performance - I used it the other night to shoot a gig as an accredited photographer and the photos came out great. The issue raised of not using it in the context of doing paid shoots, in particular weddings as mentioned here, is understandable from the point of view of having only one card slot, but the camera is technically easily good enough to shoot a wedding no problem - as long as the photographer is up to the job! Many people have successfully shot many weddings with lesser cameras than this in the not too recent past I’m sure.
Of course you can do it. But if you want best result... There there is full frame sensor for that. I have both z6 and z50. It is true in low light this camera is not as good. Its the same with phones
I have had the z50 now for three weeks. The kit lens is really cool with the size, but so slow. I have noticed if you throw on one of the 1.8 z primes it focuses better in low light. But compared to the z6 the IBIS and EVF alone are night and day, but I have noticed a difference in low light focusing but as you mentioned it is only a concern really for low light events that your being paid for. I think it is an $850 camera, that out performs any camera at that price point, but not a z6 that is a $1799 camera. I am really excited for the 28mm compact prime, because I shoot 90% on primes, and that should be a great focal length and size. For me it replaced my iPhone, which I think is really its intended market, for people wanting to move into photography and graduate from a smartphone. A few things I am really happy with, the raw files are great to work with, the video is very detailed, the ergonomics are great. Things I dislike, no usb C and I wish it used the EN-EL15b battery.
James Ryan Can you tell me more about better low-light focusing with z 1.8 primes? I love my Z50, and it is great for most of my shooting. But I shoot publicity stills for a local theater group, and have used a 50mm 1.8D in the past. Unfortunately that screwdriver 50mm 1.8 D won;t autofocus on the FTZ adapter, so I am looking for either a Z prime or a FX or DX prime I can use with the FYTZ adapter. Thanks!
Charles B. Focusing systems have limits to how low of light they can focus in measured in EV. So for example I believe the spec on the z6 is -5 EV. So it can focus 5 Stops below proper exposure. So if you use a 1.8 prime vs an f4 zoom, you let in 2 more stops of light. So your starting point for -5 EV is two stops lower.
A $1,000 camera -- "For me it replaced my iPhone" lol..... if you ain't using a z50 to it's fullest, that's user error. Ya'll killing me..... I pimped an d3300 for years making g's off of it. A z50 is that much easier to make money from... why are ya'll dweebs talking money? Stick to spec sheet bla bla bla..
I agree with you. I have two D750s that I use for paid work, but for everything else I use my Z 50. It has replaced my M4/3 cameras in this role, giving me the same compact size but better image quality. My only complaint is that I wish Nikon had put IBIS in this camera. If Panasonic can do it in cheaper cameras, Nikon can too.
I searched and searched to no avail. I wandered to the so called big photography RUclipsrs channels to find out more about Nikon's Z50 mirrorless camera and didn't come away satisfied. I came here and it was straight to the point and concise. You have a new subscriber. I just wanted a straight, to the point, and honest review of the Z50 and that's what I got here. Thank you!
Have the Z6 and bought the Z50 as a backup camera. Have taken it on a family and small school shoot and loved the results. Also have some night shots of lighted businesses that came out great on auto ISO and a high speed as I was moving when I took the images. It's a great camera with Nikon sharpness, color, and quality and it fits great in my hand.
Hi Will. Really helpful video. I am based in the UK and am a keen hill walker and backpacker. I photograph the landscapes and wildlife i encounter and also take short videos. I am looking to upgrade my current point and shoot Olympus to something that will produce better images, but will still be suitable for carrying about on the trail. The Z50 was under consideration and after watching this i am convinced it is perfect for my needs. Many thanks for posting. Andy.
Just want to say thanks for putting in the time and making these informative videos for all of us. After watching numerous videos, I finally pulled the trigger and bought the Z50 w/ two lens bundle yesterday. I've been shooting Olympus M43 these past few years but I learned photography on a D5300 so I'm excited to get back to the Nikon family. Thanks again!
I saw a Z 50 in a shop when I bought a lens for my Z 7 - what a cute little puppy. Yes, I considered its DX pancake zoom for the Z 7 as a walk around lens, but this little thing is seriously smaller. I need to rethink now.
I've had the D5600, D7500 and the Z 50 and I'd say it's more like the D7500 than the 5600. I've been primarily using the Z 50 for wildlife and for tracked deep space astrophotography and it works great for both of those. I think where I've seen the AF vs the Z6 improvements is in wildlife photography. My Z6 always struggled a little with focusing on smaller subjects (birds) and particularly small moving subjects such as a fox running or birds in flight. I haven't noticed as much of an issue with the Z 50 with those subjects. It's the same AF system so I think where the difference comes in is the crop factor and having the subject fill the frame more which makes it easier on the AF system. I would think that the AF performance would be almost identical to the Z 7 in DX mode.
@@claudiaferreira585 it depends. I don't see a reason to get the d7500 unless you don't like electronic viewfinders. The z 50 has good AF, is smaller, works with future Z lenses and F lenses with the adapter. I would recommend going to your local camera store and getting both in your hands. Both cameras are very good and either choice is a good choice.
First of all, the Z50 is a consumer grade mirrorless camera and the D500 is a professional dslr camera, they can't just beat eachother because they are for diffirent purposes, when it comes to speed, reliability, durability, customization, the D500 wins by far, but when it comes to portability, portrait photography, and videography, the Z50 wins. They are litterly the same in image quality. The Z50 is litterly just a D500 in a cheaper mirrorless shell without the weather sealing
@@unbroken1010 that person full of it anyways 🤦♂️ said they are different than said z50 is the d500 in a cheaper shell but same image quality. So to them the weather sealing and quick control buttons = professional grade.
I use the z50 as a 2nd camera body along with my z6, and I have had great results on shoots I have used it on, but in my work, I always use pro off camera lighting so the low light issue is not an issue for me but that is my scope of work, and it is my set stabilizer video camera for all my cinema shoots and has been wonderful. just about the same capability of my z6 in cinema..I love this z50 and yes it is a wonderful travel and everyday camera and I share all the images live to my phone and have much better images from phone..love it recommend it personally and professionally
I have a Z50 with both kit lenses. My wife and are flying to Tucson in April to hike and take scenic photos. This camera is my designated travel camera which is lightweight and fits into a small pack. My Z6 is my lowlight dance camera.
Does it struggle a lot in low light? I'm considering whether to buy Z50 or ZV-1 for company social media pictures/videos and webcam for livestream and youtube videos. Which one would be best? Because the ZV-1 looks pretty amazing in low-light for its cost.
I used to use Z6 at work for events and astrophotography (not mine but the company's camera), and I'm thinking to buy the Z5o these days, but my dislikes is the screen, and it comes with Micro USB instead of Type C as a mainly USB for these days, so do you recommend any other alternatives in the same budget??
That was really helpful. I'm an absolute novice trying to decide between DSLR and mirrorless (leaning mirrorless due to the compact size) but one of my main interests is night photography, particularly of the Aurora Borealis. Hearing that this model camera isn't great in low light is very helpful in my decision making.
You have an excellent channel and I like how you set the expectations and kept the fluff out. You are not trying to sell a camera you are just expressing your opinions with it as an owner. I feel the same way you do about my Fuji XT3. My Nikon DSLRs have specific purposes and I have no plans to replace either of them.
Great video but I still feel a bit in doubt. This is what I need...tell me what you think. Since my baby was born 20 months ago, I've wanted a small compact camera that would give me GREAT image quality. (My D810 is just too big!) Not only for photos of him but high quality images on the street, architecture, details etc. A camera to always have with me that really gives truly great images. I wasn't happy with the Fuji x100f for example. I can handle slow focusing in low light, so long as the final result is spectacular. Is this camera a candidate for that? :)
This is absolutely the camera for you sir especially because if need be you can adapt your F mount lenses. I think this thing really shines with the Kit lenses though, so sharp, so small, stabilized and INEXPENSIVE
@@TheMonochromeMemoirs...thanks for the quick reply. I really like this camera! Just need a push off the ledge to buy it and it looks like you've given me every reason. Thanks again!
Thanks for your thoughts about Nikon Z50 and the 16-50 kit lens, very helpful! If you can share your opinion on: How is the bokeh quality of 16-50, when you shot close ups, e.g. small flowers or twigs? Is the lens sharper in corners, compared to nikon af-s 18-55 vr ii. I do not expect miracles but really need something light and compact for my heavier mountain hikes and so far this is my choice Thanks in advance for your response!
I need some advice, I'm a photography student so right off the bat, not much funds are available to me. I've been using a Nikon D3200 since high school but im in university now and taking photography as a degree. My camera is ok but it is old and it was second hand so there are a few kinks. I don't do gigs just yet but i do have to go and shoot for my assignments, my DSLR is a bit too clunky and i feel threatens people when i'm shooting on the streets. Would it be wise for me to get the Z50? do you think it would fit my needs? please help
I bought the Z50 in November for street photography and family shots and its has become my favorite for those, and for landscapes. Images are sharp using both the native lenses and using the adapter (FTZ) my F lenses work great too. Looks like my D7200 will be getting less use although still enjoy using it. Boy does it feel massive after using Z50. My only real complaint is the Z50 is a dust magnet. Love using this little camera, and thanks Will for the fair and accurate reviews on it, the Z 50 is better than most of these so called experts have reported. Can't wait to retire my D7200 for the Z6 later this year. Joe
@@tintiks Hi haven't compared the cameras with the same lens, To tell the truth I've found the two kit lenses have produced better results and have been using the Z50 now for everything. I also don't do a lot of low light shooting unless I'm on a tripod so it hasn't been an issue.
Awesome review, Will. If we could only get all reviews to be from a true user’s experience instead of the usual: “I’ve had this for a couple of days now, and here are my initial thoughts.” Thank you for bringing true value to YT!
Aaron Cruz hello, please could you tell me what you think about this camera now after 2 months ? I really want this since a long time and Im about to buy it now. But I want to Be sure... Im French so don’t be affraid with my english please 🤣
One more comment about noise (grain) at high ISO. What software did you use to open RAW images? Try to compare Adobe Camera Raw (latest version) with Nikon Capture NX-D and you will see a HUGE difference in noise (horrible in ACR, great in NX-D). Adobe Camera Raw should NOT be used to open RAW images from the Z50.
Hi Will, great overview about the assets and the weaknesses of the Z50! At this stage, I decided not to buy it because I prefer to have with me a camera which can be good at low light and is optimized for the bokehlicious lenses.
@@dryad_92 no everybody's doing it everybody's making the same images and everything just looks terrible like it came from one photographer. The same low light wide open bokeh. It's about as played out as Instagram filters
I got the little monster 3 days ago. The camera itself and the sensor are punching above their weight. Ergonomics, weight, size, screen and features are very good. Battery life, build quality (compared to the other Nikon mirrorless) and the EVF are a mixed bag but still good. The real letdown are the lenses. The 16-50mm has the form factor on its side and the picture quality may surprise you but only in good light. It also has some nice bokeh balls. The telephoto is noticeably slower in good lighting condition and basically unusable in low light if you want it to focus (and you do, don’t you?). So if you’re thinking to zoom out and blur the background while shooting portraits of your friends indoors you are fresh out of luck if you don’t have a couple of lights positioned well. Again the picture quality for the 50-250mm is very good though it doesn’t seem to go anywhere near the advertised 250mm, did anybody test that? They both also come without hoods and I wouldn’t expect too many special coatings on the front elements so you need to buy some and fast. I got my camera from Nikon to test through the Yellow program and I’m still undecided. Great little travel camera, beautiful colors, easy to use and in my price range but the lenses are few and unimpressive and they only have one more super zoom on their roadmap. Thoughts?
I was debating on getting the new Nikon Z 50 but I decided if I’m going to pick up another camera it’s either going to be a Z6 or a Z7. No matter how nice and small it is I have humongous hands ha ha and it’s bad enough I had to get an L plate for my Z6 just so my pinky doesn’t hang off the grip. Not that I don’t like crop sensor cameras, I loved my d7100. But after switching over to full frame cameras I just fell in love with the overall image. If I were to get another crop sensor camera it would be for nature shots or sports and I will probably pick up a used Nikon D500. That is a beast of a camera. I saw multiple RUclips reviews saying that it was better than the Nikon Z6 and to say that an Unstabilized camera is better than a Camera with in built stabilization is hard to believe. The z6 and z7 are game changers. They make getting the shots so much easier hand held. And I pretty much stop watching RUclips review were‘s that have a new camera every two or three days and shoot with one brand and then talk down about all the other brands. You got to use the camera for a while to know how good it actually is and what the quirks are. I watch more tutorials to make me a better photographer then what somebody thinks on every new piece of gear. Keep up the good work my friend love the channel and your content
Thank you for the video. I have the Z50 and love how small it is, and both kit lenses are sharp. It is not a perfect camera and is priced as such. But for what it is, it is awesome. Did you test it with the 35 1.8 dx for low light? The kit lenses are slow, but light and compact. Always a tradeoff. Far less clunky than the D3xxx series cameras, with a great video.
So I have a Nikon d3300. interested in getting into real estate and product photography. Is the Z50 a good choice on a tight budget for an upgrade? thanks
Thanks for the review. I'm planning to move up from the 5500 so that comparison was helpful. I'd like a better sensor with less noise in low light so good to know what to expect
I chose D7500 to replace my D5600 over this, because I already have some (cheap) fast glass for DX and in the back of my head, I still think that Nikon has some way to go with mirrorless. I also took in consideration things like battery life, the fact that Im not doing any video at all and for the time being and also, native Z glass is very expensive, with no third party options. I know that theres the adapter but... now, the D7500, the camera that everybody seems to love to hate, has great low light capabilities, no problems for me there and Im getting the best results I ever got as a hobbyist photographer with it. I will switch to the Nikon mirrorless in a couple of years time, but it will be with one of their full frame cameras. I still have a lot to learn about photography until that point and maybe by then I will be able to get some glass for it at more reasonable prices - I make no money from this, I will most likely never make money from this thing I just enjoy doing. anyway, whatever you choose in the end, just make sure to use it and keep improving!
If I didn't have the z6, d500 and a new iphone 11 pro max, I would absolutely consider the z50. Between the 3, I just can't see a place for the z50, at least not right now. The d500 is for sports, the z6 is for professional and the iphone, for everyday. But your points are totally valid. Quality content everytime! Thanks man!!
eric wilson When Will talked about "the best camera is the one in your hands", I completely agreed. I've seen photos that made me envious which were taken with a cellphone :)
I’m guessing you shoot primarily RAW for the Z6, but probably JPEG for the Z50? On the Z50, do you leave the shooting menu to factory default, or what are your preferences for: Active D Lighting, noise reduction, vignette control, etc?
Too late! Bought the Z50 before watching this. I have one question - I have both my Z50 and Z6 on back button focus. The Z6 will go back to shooting mode (from the playback mode) on the press of the back focus button, but the Z50 does not. Do you have this issue? If not, what is the setting to make it automatically enter shooting mode if the focus button is pressed? Right now, my workaround is one of the front custom buttons is the playback button, and I have to press that to get back into shooting mode. And two points I would also make for potential Z50 buyers: 1) In terms of size, the camera is not "shirt pocket pocketable", it is more "jacket pocket pocketable" with the 16-50 kit lens contracted. 2) My short description of quality is that looking on your phone, higher end camera phones may look just as good at phone sizes as the Z50 images. But if you enlarge the Z50 images keep the detail, while camera phones pictures will get blurry. While this may sound obvious, I only point this out to make the comparison against the Z6. Z6 images definitely look better than phone pictures, even at phone size images (probably because of background blur, but it's not only that). The Z50 is fun to use, and I take it everywhere with me. The Z6 is more for "special events". Thanks as usual, Will.
I am a dSLR owner...Canon 70D (crop)...but I wanted to go to mirrorless. I'm not a pro, I'm not even quite as active as I used to be with photography, but I've been trying to get back into it. I think part of my problem is I have spent a few years going up in camera level and it means bigger and bulkier...now that mirrorless is well established, I think it's time to make the switch...but I'm just not ready for a full frame mainly due to pricing. I think making a switch to Nikon and mirrorless would be a big enough change that would require some getting used to and if I like it well enough, that would be enough to most likely make me want to invest in the full frame side...so of course I'd start with a couple cheaper lenses before investing in anything FX and pricey. I was looking at Canon M series and R series, but I don't like that they use different lenses. The thing that caught my attention with the Nikon Z is that I can buy FX lenses and use them on a Z50. Later, if I want to I could upgrade to an FX camera. For that scenario, would you say it might be worth a chance? I just bought my son an older dSLR (SL1) so that he can use my current lenses and start getting more serious with photography. He has an older Canon G10 that I bought him a few years ago so that he could learn to care for it and learn the basics of manual control. This could be something that becomes his if I upgrade to a full frame.
Something different about this video...looks/sounds different...great video. Really appreciate your posts. I got the 16-50mm for my z6 and it's great for easy shots.
This review is fairly accurate. The APS-C sensors with high pixel counts don't fair too well in low light unless of course you are doing long exposure photography. eg Astronomy.
Bought Nikon z50 sold my fujix100f z50 lovely to use you are so correct fits into pocket Evan tried my manual voigtlander 50mm 1.4 works perfectly on it and can take out in bad weather it's so easy to use cheers Jonathan London
Hi Will, really enjoy your channel. I am a hobbyist and currently shooting with Nikon D7200 with the16-85mm dx vr lens. I like to get a second camera, because carry the D7200 around all day (vacations) is a real chore. Do you recommend the Z50 with the kit lens or the Z6 with the FTZ adapter and use my 16-85 mm lens?
If portability is really important to you I would definitely go with the Z50 and kit lens, it’s a great package to carry around everyday. Thanks for the support Cesar
I'm using a Sony A6400 (APS-C camera) as my gimbal cam, and I still plan on replacing that with a Z50 for the light weight. I'd like to get away from Sony since my wife is shooting photography with Nikon and I'd rather not maintain gear for two systems. I'm already using her lenses on my Pocket 4k, so we have a good mix of new and vintages Nikon lenses to chose from. I'd like to see an APS-C prime for the Z50, but I don't see that on their roadmap. I love the size of my 20mm 2.8D for video work, but it's full manual with the Zs since it has the screw focus that is not built into the F to Z adapter.
I have so many screw-focus D lenses (which i use with my D750), that it is a pity I cannot use them with the Z system. I still cannot find any telephoto lens on the market that renders images in the same magical way as my Nikkor 180mm f/2.8D from 1986!!!
Nikon Z50 I want a better lens than the Kit lens. I'm thinking the 50MM 1.8 or the 35mm 1.8 what do you think? I know there is a 1.5 crop and that will change things a bit? ideas? thanks - JAM
That’s a tough choice but I personally think the benefits of mirrorless outweighs dslrs.. it’s a whole different experience and the sooner you can start shooting mirrorless the better.. Z50 is an excellent camera
Thanks for your videos! Could you discuss the possibility of Nikon releasing a second upgraded version of the z50 like they did for z6 and z7? Should one wait for a few months?
I am interested in switching from my entry level nikon d3400 with a 35mm and kit lens to a new Camera. I'm currently borrowing an a6300 but idk where to go to?? What do you all think? I'm looking to get better with photography and my clients.
@@TheMonochromeMemoirs I know that. Is it a small cost of $ 30? Something like that. Can you send me an audio sample from z50? A few seconds to check the noise profile
After using the Z50 would you say that the lowlight isnt as good because its an APS-C sensor instead of full frame? Never had a full frame camera so i dont know how much better full frame is in lowlight compared to APS-C
In terms of image quality it would work great BUT it’s a crop sensor. Full frame usually works best for real estate photography because you can usually get a wider field of view
Would you recommend this camera for a barber who’s taking portraits ? Also man I’d love for someone to come out with a video that would recommend cameras for a barber and what lenses are best for what we do. Because we post on social media daily and we also use photography quite a bit.
Hello! I might be a little late to the party but I would like to know your opinion. Is Z50 AF comparable with D7500? I know they are technically different, I was just curious whether D7500 AF is more reliable, especially in low light. I don't mind carrying bigger camera as long as it has a reliable AF system.
I'm looking to replace my D5500 w/ Sigma 17-70 mounted in 'go mode'... it's my travel camera. I'm looking at the Z50 or Z5. Mainly because the D5500 is NOT a joy to use in manual mode. I like the form factor of the Z50... and the controls are intuitive to me.. and I have lenses (with adaptor). I like the idea of IBIS in the Z5 but haven't seen one in real life.. and I'm worried it might be a little too big. I appreciate your thoughts on the Z50. Now I just need to find a Z5 and Z50 to put in my hands and see what works best for me. I like the 'look' of fx images and use a D750 for my planned shooting.. and I shoot film too. I'm not against video, I just don't use it much... and FPS doesn't matter to me because I still shoot like a film photographer trying to save money.
I never feel like there's anything wrong with a little bit of grain a little bit of noise but I was brought up on 35 mm film and medium format film that said I think people always expect way too much from quote higher iso. This is why it's important to get into lightning and Flash and not be afraid to carry light tripod every once in awhile. I'm more Curious how the sensor does with older manual lenses m42 c-mount Helios etc. Sony sensor does a great job almost all of them. Fuji is a little hit-and-miss but pretty good 80% of the time. I got 50 mm Minolta MD that just looks exquisite on a Sony sensor I wonder if I'll get the same results with the Nikon Z 50 . as far as the topic are you going to make money your portfolio gets you to the table no art director editor should ever be worried about what camera your shooting on it should never be part of the discussion as far as still photography is concerned. I've had stuff published with a Ricoh GR 2
Evening man! You said you wouldnt take this camera for commercial shootings. Would you take it for instagram? Where the quality of image is not original. I want to develop my instagram, should I buy this one or Z6? With love from Russia
I love mine. After not shooting for years it was my next Nikon after my N6006 and N8008 film cameras. It meets all my needs in partnership with my iPhone. In particular the Nikon 24-70 S F4 lense I hestitated too purchase because the Z 50 lacks IBIS is a brilliant lense with the Z50. Will, your review is outstanding. Thank you.
I would love one of these to go with my D750 as an "always carry" pocket camera but I can't justify it, so I bought a used NEX-6 with the tiny PZ lens for £200. I quite like it.
Thanks a lot for this video. I was thinking about z50 or totally new fuji system with x-t30 but I have chosen this little monster with ftz for my older lenses instead. It's my first days but I after a while I found that 4 image processors and 11 years of development from my old d90 really made a difference. Just a quick question - what's your case, bag or pouch that you're carrying around z50 with 16-50 kit? Cheers!
Something tells me that your description here about low light and AF is from using the kit lens alone. The 16-50mm is ultra portable and quiet but it's also F3.5 at best which is slow. I just bought this camera with an FTZ adapter. Using my faster F mount lenses, low light performance is much better than any D5X00 series cameras.

I’ve been looking for a solid camera to take photos of my tattoo work, as I want to upgrade from my current set up. This seems to be the perfect fit for me. Thanks for the review!
So what you would suggest to buy for a beginner which also wants to photograph also in low light conditions? Like what do you mean specifically? With what iso it starts to snow?
Been using one for a while and in this case high ISO is pretty high like 3200+ its much better than the D7100 which I replaced.. (nothing like the Z6 which feels 3-4 times as good in low light more like a Z7) if you are just getting into photography and willing to take all your shots in manual (to learn how things work) you want a camera with an EVF as it shows you what iso/shutter/aperture changes look like in the view finder so its like taking a shot each time to change something really helps speed up the learning process which is what this camera has over the DSLR's.. hope this helps...
wife has the z6 for her shooting and we have a lot of great glass. I was thinking of using this more for video but also stills. If I use the better glass will there be any cropping and if so, how bad is it to use the full frame glass on the z50? She also has the mount converter so we can use some older nikon glass. Just looking for thoughts and suggestions. Thanks...

I have no focusing issues with my Z50 in low light...
Great to hear from you Janos!

How's the battery life
I have had the z50 now for three weeks.
Excellent comment. Sums up my thoughts perfectly
Hi I'm currently using the panasonic g80 and I'm considering this, how does it compare to m4/3 in lower light situations? And overall use? Thanks
I searched and searched to no avail. I wandered to the so called big photography RUclipsrs channels to find out more about Nikon's Z50 mirrorless camera and didn't come away satisfied. Have the Z6 and bought the Z50 as a backup camera. Have taken it on a family and small school shoot and loved the results. Also have some night shots of lighted businesses that came out great on auto ISO and a high speed as I was moving when I took the images. hello mister... which one u think is better to get? nikon z50 or d5600? image quality based....
Welcome to the family bruv!
I saw a Z 50 in a shop when I bought a lens for my Z 7 - what a cute little puppy. Yes, I considered its DX pancake zoom for the Z 7 as a walk around lens, but this little thing is seriously smaller. I need to rethink now.
I love your comment!! lol
Great to hear from you Jeffrey. Glad you’re enjoying the 50!
Hi Jeffrey, I'd like to upgrade to the D7500 or the Z50. Which would you recommend? I shoot mainly landscape and not video.
Hi Jeffery,
I liked your answer. I am looking for upgrading from D7200 to Z50 now in 2023? What do you suggest?
Please suggest the best Nikon Z50 or Nikon D7500 ? In all perspective...!!!
Just put the Nikon DX 17-55mm f/2.8 on the Z50 and let me know how your impressions have changed.
It beats the mighty d500
First of all, the Z50 is a consumer grade mirrorless camera and the D500 is a professional dslr camera, they can't just beat eachother because they are for diffirent purposes, when it comes to speed, reliability, durability, customization, the D500 wins by far, but when it comes to portability, portrait photography, and videography, the Z50 wins.
They are litterly the same in image quality.
The Z50 is litterly just a D500 in a cheaper mirrorless shell without the weather sealing

same for me. but the Z50 does make for an enticing back up camera. but since the Z5 exists now im not so sure anymore.

@@kapilarasan2173 The battery life is just adequate and I would advise purchasing an extra battery or two.
Great review✌️ Being my first camera, should I choose this 'beast' over the Sony 6400 / Fuji XT30? Thanks in advance for any advice.
Does it struggle a lot in low light? I'm considering whether to buy Z50 or ZV-1 for company social media pictures/videos and webcam for livestream and youtube videos.
Which one would be best? Because the ZV-1 looks pretty amazing in low-light for its cost.
This is a great camera i'm using this for professional work as a fashion photographer.
Great to see your comment. Im also choosing a camera for night photography. Have you made your choice already?
Did you look at Olympus?

How is the bokeh quality of 16-50, when you shot close ups, e.g. small flowers or twigs?
Is the lens sharper in corners, compared to nikon af-s 18-55 vr ii.

Would you rather use a d3500 ?
The Z50 is a whole other level.
The D3500 is the entry level DSLR. I have it and it's good for stills, not good for video.
Thoughts?
I’m trying to upgrade from my Nikon D3500. I do photography/ portraits. But I’m unsure which one to upgrade to 😅
I was debating on getting the new Nikon Z 50 but I decided if I’m going to pick up another camera it’s either going to be a Z6 or a Z7.
Is the Z50 a good choice on a tight budget for an upgrade? thanks
Can you recommend an ND filter for the Z50. Do you have an affiliate link?
Thanks for the review. I'm planning to move up from the 5500 so that comparison was helpful. I'd like a better sensor with less noise in low light so good to know what to expect
Nikon d7500 vs z50, which one would you choose?

Which one is good for photography sony zv e10 or nikon z 50 or sony 6100?
Have you looked at the SmallRig mounting plate for the Z50? Seems a workable solution for using a tripod with the flip down screen.
Hi bro! How is your z50 when you shoot portrait flash photography indoors and outdoors? I have the 24-70 and 70-200 i use on my d800/d3s.
Did you get a new camera/mic? What did you use to shoot this video?
Nope been using the Z6 for every video since the first. Mic is a rode video mic pro
Something different about this video...looks/sounds different...great video. Really appreciate your posts. I got the 16-50mm for my z6 and it's great for easy shots.
Thanks very much my man!
Great honest review, have you used the ftz adaptor on this?
Hi Will! Do you think it would work well for astrophotography ? Milky Way ? Time lapses? Star trailing? Txs in advance...
Snapbridge and a camera/lens this size is a great response to smartphone cameras.
Man , you’re my most trusted source for gear info . Thanks for being so sincere !
Thank you for always watching and supporting my friend!
Very smart to combine systems. I couldn’t imagine my wife and I shooting different gear sets. Smart man! You’ll love the 50.
APSC prime is a must, I don’t understand why Nikon didn’t put any into the roadmap. :(
I have so many screw-focus D lenses (which i use with my D750), that it is a pity I cannot use them with the Z system. I still cannot find any telephoto lens on the market that renders images in the same magical way as my Nikkor 180mm f/2.8D from 1986!!!
@@hellasride2717 try 300mm f/4
@@eldindokara7868 Yes, I've heard good things about it, but it is not a focal length i would use frequently.
Should I buy this for action shots?
Nikon Z50 I want a better lens than the Kit lens. I'm thinking the 50MM 1.8 or the 35mm 1.8 what do you think? I know there is a 1.5 crop and that will change things a bit? ideas? thanks - JAM
Do you recommend to upgrade from a D7100? or you would go with a D7500?
That’s a tough choice but I personally think the benefits of mirrorless outweighs dslrs.. it’s a whole different experience and the sooner you can start shooting mirrorless the better.. Z50 is an excellent camera
would you recommend Z50 for sunset/sunrise? I will buy the Z6ii but would like a backup, also for video
Is this camera good for a beginner?
I have never have a camera before and I am considering to buy this one...
Thanks for your videos! Could you discuss the possibility of Nikon releasing a second upgraded version of the z50 like they did for z6 and z7? Should one wait for a few months?
which camera better for photography ??????
7500d and z50 ?
I am interested in switching from my entry level nikon d3400 with a 35mm and kit lens to a new Camera. I'm currently borrowing an a6300 but idk where to go to?? What do you all think? I'm looking to get better with photography and my clients.
Hi nice video. just wanna ask if z50 good for videography film?
So would you say z50 is better then the z5 ? Or quite the same in image quality etc ?
Hi. I have Z6. Will Z50 be a good choice for vlogging? Z6 is a bit heavy with long use.
Z50 is perfect for vlogging! Just make sure you use a small rig tripod bracket that will let you flip the screen down
@@TheMonochromeMemoirs I know that.
Do you feel this camera will work for real estate photography or should I go with Z6?
In terms of image quality it would work great BUT it’s a crop sensor. Full frame usually works best for real estate photography because you can usually get a wider field of view
So if price isn’t a huge factor go with the Z6
@@TheMonochromeMemoirs Thank you very much.
Is this a good camera for vlogging?
I'm not against video, I just don't use it much... and FPS doesn't matter to me because I still shoot like a film photographer trying to save money.
even hough I love this camera, I always had the urge for a full frame, Im a one camera guy, do you think its worth trading for a Z5?
Its the z50 good for bird photography? I am thinking on this or the sony a6600.
Thanks
Hi what would you recommend for wildlife photography .. up to 1500 bucks
Evening man! You said you wouldnt take this camera for commercial shootings. Would you take it for instagram? Where the quality of image is not original. I want to develop my instagram, should I buy this one or Z6? With love from Russia
Would you recommend this camera for cake smashes, maternity and grad pics?
I love mine. After not shooting for years it was my next Nikon after my N6006 and N8008 film cameras. It meets all my needs in partnership with my iPhone. In particular the Nikon 24-70 S F4 lense I hestitated too purchase because the Z 50 lacks IBIS is a brilliant lense with the Z50. Will, your review is outstanding. Thank you.
I would love one of these to go with my D750 as an "always carry" pocket camera but I can't justify it, so I bought a used NEX-6 with the tiny PZ lens for £200. I quite like it.
If that’s working for you I’d definitely stay with it. But yea, Z50 is the best all around daily camera I’ve ever used for sure
Used the FF 50mm 1.8 G on it and the focussing on moving objects was very good.
Josua Mudreilagi How does the F-mount 50mm 1.8 G handle low-light focusing? Thanks!
If the Z 50 is the only camera that you had, would you use it to do paid work, is it good enough?
I’m having a problem with my z50, the pictures sometimes disappear and i don’t know what is, can you please give me some advice?
Thanks a lot for this video. I was thinking about z50 or totally new fuji system with x-t30 but I have chosen this little monster with ftz for my older lenses instead. It's my first days but I after a while I found that 4 image processors and 11 years of development from my old d90 really made a difference. Just a quick question - what's your case, bag or pouch that you're carrying around z50 with 16-50 kit? Cheers!
Hey brother, I have a video on my carrying case a few back. Check it out!
Андрей Алексеевич d-lenses cant autofocus with ftz adapter
dsoprano13 Which F-Mount lenses are you using?I want to replace my F-mount 50mm 1.8 D with a fast prime I can use on the Z50 via the FTZ adapter. Thanks!
I’ve been looking for a solid camera to take photos of my tattoo work, as I want to upgrade from my current set up. This seems to be the perfect fit for me. Thanks for the review!
I am considering buying the Z50, can you tell me with the Z adapter and 1.8 35 or 50mm lens? Is the footage is still grainy?
Thanks...
Do you think the AF it’s worst than the D7100 in low lights ?
Can I use it as a second camera for weddings along with my Z6
Sure could. I’d save for a second Z6 personally though
@@TheMonochromeMemoirs thanks for the swift reply.
Your answer is painfully correct.
I'll have to accept your answer as the z6 will be the best solution for weddings.
Prior to my Z6 I had d500 which was good but it looks like the Z6 wins again.
I'm a photograph (mostly sport and other creative works) switching to video. I use D300s, D610 among others. I'm considering very much this camera primary for video and (time to time) photos. Love your explanations. thanks.
I wanna change mi D7100 for a Z50. I work in wedding photography. What do you think?
