I'm buying 3. One for myself and one each for my grandchildren. What a way to keep in contact with them, watch movies together and play games together from many miles away. So cool...
I don't think that's one of the features. Virtual reality is much more geared towards video games. It is nowhere near to projecting someone else into your view. I would not buy it if you want something to close the gap between you and your grandkids.
Ben Turner Bigscreen out now enables you to sit in various virtual enviroments using an avatar and watch movies with friends family remotely. Vtime also is aimed at social interaction. Look them up. Oculus Spaces also allows multiplayer gaming and video watching.
I was thinking about getting this for my Grandmother and myself for just such a situation. We live 2,000 miles apart and I always bring my Daydream headset for her to play with when I visit for the holidays. She loves it, but she has an iPhone and so can't use one of the other mobile headsets like the Daydream or Gear VR. I think this just about fits the bill perfectly.
Just $199 for Virtual Movie Theater at your home. Yes, please! In 2008-2009 I dreamed about VR cinema, 30x20 meters screen in front of you. There was NOTHING then, only $1000 Sony HMZ-T1 (thanks god I didn't buy it).. But I will buy Oculus Go. Just for VR Cinema.
This kind of price point was relevant when 50 inch TVs cost $10,000 and projector started at 15K. Nowadays you can get a 50 inch TV for 300 bucks. Oculus Go video quality really sucks. The chromatic aberrations are horrible.
Fabian La Maestra I'm disappointed with the resolution of the videos. I was dreaming about using my PC on a huge cinema screen, but even films off the unit's storage, look a bit crappy.. I don't want to knock it, because I like the company, but I personally would like better video quality, and some other improvements. Good things coming though
This was an excellent move by Oculus. I feel as though more people need to get a taste of VR. I bring up VR in numerous conversations and most people NEVER even heard of VR. This product is for the mainstrain audience that aren't gamers willing to spend $1000s for a gaming computer, don't care/notice the technical limitations compared to the Oculus rift, and just want to use it for simple applications. I'm really excited for this.
Yep, the first thing I thought of when I heard about this was getting one for my Grandmom. I've showed her my Daydream a couple of times and she LOVES it, but she has an iPhone, so she can't get a compatible headset, and even then can't be bothered with all of the technical aspects of getting it up and running. Being able to set it up for her so she can just push a power button and go is fantastic for the less tech-savvy audience.
It'd be pretty weird to run into people who've never heard of VR, considering it's been around for decades. Over 30 years ago there were trainers/simulators (e.g. for flight training) and then I remember those game cabinets in arcades in the 90s. Sure, modern HMD VR is pretty new, but even then the Oculus Rift has been in development for almost a decade.
Well, with a little bit refined Google carboard clones, you know what you are getting. And it's not a great VR experience, plus, you get to keep your phone for its intended purpose. I think it's a waste of time. They should spend their money on R&D, and get out a proper consumer VR headset. Chinese companies have made these kinds of headsets for years already, so it's nothing new. A smartphone with the best software and hardware for VR, and a great Google cardboard clone would be way better.
Rafał Sobczyk Quite a few actually. Galaxy S9, Note 9, Mate 10 Pro and lots of others. But we aren't talking about phones, we're talking about an HDM with custom designed hardware. Why shouldn't it include expandable storage, especially if it's completely standalone.
I have a Rift with the Touch controllers, I had the Vive, and I have the Vive Pro. I just bought one of these. It's perfect for relaxing immersive media consumption, it's convenient, it's mobile.
I feel like this can be a very good gaming headset for people with small rooms / nowhere for a 6 degree movement setup. So you can sit down and play native or none native vr games with a controller, IF they allow you to ether stream from your PC with a very low latency or to have a light wire which allows a fast connection.
As a Vive owner/lover, I think something like this will be perfect for watching movies/TV shows on a 10hr plane flight or similar, as long as it's comfortable enough. I wish they'd have included an SD card slot though.... Also I wish it could somehow include a video input so I could, for example, play my Nintendo Switch on a virtual 70" screen whilst on a plane, but I get why that might be too much to ask....
According to Carmack - All visual artifacts corrections running on every frame in Rift on PC take as much performance as ENTIRE Oculus Go chip has to do everything. The tech is not there. On the other hand Facebook has the money to do a proper ASIC chip which could do it all with much better performance, but they are not Apple and don't have balls to go all in their projects. They went for the low price and off-the-shelf solution.
They would have destoryed every VR headset if this thing had USB-C... like you could charge, use it to montior from a usb-c device, data transfer, expand storage and more!! I'd pay $50-100 more if it had that and slightly higher res optics.
I am happy to own a htc vive. But one thing i am missing is the opportunity to be able to spontanious switch from my tv to a comfortable headset to watch a movie in virtual theatre without listening to the fans of my gaming pc and powering up the sensors and all that stuff. I think mobile VR devices will conquer the VR world and will take the main place in our homes of the future. If these headsets get so affordable, a movie night at a friends house might not happen on an flat screen that is standing on your sideboard. Kind of oldscool dont you think ;).
The quality for videos is so good, we decided to do a giveaway to bring more attention to the go and our twitch channel! clips.twitch.tv/PolishedPatientAyeayeGivePLZ
Due to your very thorough review, I am now well informed about the "Go". As an avid gamer and movie goer, I was curious on how this will suffice my cravings. You explained everything I need to know that other reviewers out there failed to do. Subscribed and thank you!
Gmayor61 I don’t get your comment 100%? I mean you can display any .mp4 footage - right? So why would it be difficult to take a signal into the device and display it the same way the Netflix app or the cinema app works?
So I have mine and it’s great for what it is designed for. It’s easy quality accessible VR. It’s an amazing stand alone system that will be available to a larger audience. Yes, it’s not as fancy as your rift or Vive, but keep in mind it’s stand alone and not attached to your pc.
Having bought one, I was amazed by the sound quality. The speakers really blow sound into your ear, even to a point where I was using it for an hour and it just hit me "darn, I don't have headphone one". Really love it, as headphones on top of a VR HMD can get annoying. Very well designed by Oculus.
This device is awsome there is now official RUclips app support. It gets better all the time and the experience is much better than the gear vr experience. It's a lot clearer, its a lot easier to use it, never overheats and it actually getting better with all the updates all the time. This is WAY better than the gear vr. It gets my vote for the best tech product released in the last 5 years.
One thing to keep in mind about the head strap, is that having a soft strap vs a rigid one makes the device more portable, which is kind of the whole point of this thing. Hence why they put 'Go' in the name. Even if the device was more premium, they probably still would have put in a flexible strap.
After owning a Vive for a while, anything less than six degrees of freedom is a no go for VR as far as I'm concerned, so I won't be picking this up. The Vive Focus looks promising though. I may have to get one of them once they're released in the US.
Excellent review, I just bought one and haven't set it up yet due to time constraints, but I decided to scan RUclips and see what the reviews said about it since that requires very little time. Watching your review makes me want to set it up immediately...thank you.
Since I own an Oculus Rift I can't go back to "3 degree VR" because I'm so used to being able to move my head in any direction Even for sitting VR it's an immersion killing thing when you're not able to move your head around (a little bit).
[ROTADERP] Well, I can't really take my pc with me all the time. If I could move around in VR with the Oculus Go I would buy it for sure because it's a nice thing to have for when I go on vacation for example. I would love to see a VR headset on the market that uses built in cameras to track your movement, but that's not here (yet).
A lot of people are complaining about the lack of 6dof tracking. The thing is, the Go isn't meant for people who already own a Rift or a Vive and have already experienced 6dof tracking. The Go is an affordable product aimed at the mass market, for people who have never tried VR before, and don't have a high end PC. 3dof is enough to wow most anyone who's ever used a Gear VR or Daydream in my experience, which then piques their interest in higher end VR devices (such as the Santa Cruz).
I recently got a daydream headset to use with my samsung s9+, the daydream view was $50 when I bought it, and the experience is pretty amazing. Similar resolution to this headset and solid motion tracking. At least in my phone I wasn't experiencing any wandering. With the skybox vr app you can watch locally stored videos and there is a youtube app and netflix app. Only problem is battery life and overheating which limits the experience. I would be inclined to bring it on a plane for watching movies f I had enough battery life.
This would be a cool way to have "multiple" PC screens and then show them "around" you in VR, then you could 'zoom' into each screen if necessary. I could see this as a really great way to do mobile live show control using something like a Hades Canyon NUC for the PC and the Oculus Go as the 'screens' for all your software running on the NUC.
I wonder if these Go lenses could be used on a Vive/Vive Pro just like the Gear VR lenses which are (so far) superior to any of the existing PC VR headsets... :)
Razor E I haven't done direct lens comparisons (yet) between my Odyssey and GearVR lenses on my Vive but I would say the sweet spot is bigger on the GearVR and also less glare/god rays. But having that said, Odyssey has great lenses of course!
SweViver I have the Odyssey and 2017 gearvr and yes both have great lens. I find the sweet spot is bigger on Odyssey. Both have god rays but in different spots I find. The gear I find has god rays around the lens edges. I would love to try the Go to compare lens
from what I've heard there are pros and cons to the lenses. I am really not that bothered by lenses on the vive but I havent tried the mod. I heard colors are better with vive lenses. I fear dust too much to try the mod.
What I want is a VR/AR headset which allows me to monitor a 4 x 3 array multi-screen and switch screens between some kind of 'go to my PC' and/or wireless security cams - with audio - so I can go about my business around my home office or back yard and still watch and hear all the streaming webinars, cablecasts of various television shows and radio broadcasts along with any phone calls, text messages, see out the windows or spot anyone who rings the doorbell. Some kind of neural frequency multiplexer would be nice too. That way I could possibly use brain wave entrainment technology to (hopefully) assimilate all the information - in a pulsed packet form of some kind. Call it a hyper-focused self-hypnotic state if you will. A bite tube controlled coffee dispenser might come in handy as well, but not a deal killer. I'd even pay full retail for the entire package if it worked and didn't cause cancer.
coming from the fpv community its a great deal lol fatshank are $500 no real tech small screen lol how do i mod these to do fpv 5.8ghz all i can see they need is a few more inputs
You do NOT want a large screen / wide FOV in a RC FPV. It could make you vomit. The wider the FOV the more susceptible our brains are for motion sickness, because peripheral vision is more sensitive to motion. Limiting the view in GO for this use case makes sense, but the resolution wouldn't be very good.
Can we be honest? I don't watch porn. I don't like looking at anothers man penis, its disgusting how they treat women and how the women are exploited and used (even tho its still their own choice blablabla, some of them are teens which is even more disgusting, teens are hardly adults, but yeh alcohol not till 21 i digress ofc). Porn just fucks up your brain, although its different for everyone. Not saying this to sound morally better, just my honest opinion whenever someone brings up that cringy subject.
I'm not trying to get into a discussion on the ethics of porn. I'm simply saying that porn is the only thing the Oculus Go would be good for. Without positional tracking it's not going to be a comfortable gaming experience.
Dennis sure, too much of it is bad, but if you are going for a 5-min session, it isn’t gonna do much if anything negative. It is when it consumes someone’s life, that’s when it becomes bad. It is similar to games, movies, or even real sex. The main point is that porn is what this device will be used for (primarily).
What I would like to know, is if it has the constellation trackpoints, for the capability to purchase the touch and trackers, and use the Go headset with the PC Oculus software, streamed at high quality and completely untethered. That would be a very nice feature, even if you have to purchase a trackpoint Type C addon as well to do so it would be super nice, especially if it has a passthrough for data, rotated 90° for the cable to be led back along the strap, and give the possibility to also be able to stream over a wired connection.
Fuzzycat you must not understand technology to think something with that kind of functionality requires 10 years from where we are now of research and development
I think the best thing about the Oculus Go is it allows a majority of people that don't have high end Pc's the opportunity to have/try VR, and at a cheaper price.
Looking at the price point, if you’re looking to get into VR, I’d go for the WMR series instead. If you’re looking for that phone VR experience but don’t wanna pay the price of a new phone, the Oculus Go seems like a good choice.
I have the 64 gig Oculus Go and it is a great entry level VR headset. Enjoying it so far. The only two things that is holding it back is a very poor battery and a lack of expandable storage. The games are okay, but like the review says, media consumption is what this VR is for. The 3DofF is fine for the price. If you're looking for 6DoF you may want to wait for the Santa Cruz version coming out next year. Hopefully it will be a decent price. For a battery fix, I bought a much longer mini usb cord (15 feet) so that I can have some slack and can watch content while charging. Also the browser has private browsing those of you who wants to watch more mature entertainment...wink wink.
Jimbo Gamer derp.. I wasn't thinking about that 😂😂😂 But I'd still like to know how it compares, seeing how most people own a smartphone and you can get the Daydream for about $50.
Yeah, but then I’m pretty Shore that daydream dosnt have touch controls unlike oculus go, day dream and oculus go are very similar but oculus go has many better things compared to day dream
Thanks for this review, answered a lot of my questions, especially about the storage of media. Also for mentioning the 6DoF version is coming, which in my personal opinion is worth the wait.
I wouldn't buy a Go because it's largely a step back from my current Rift, but I think when we get to gen 2 or 3 of these kinds of headsets (with full 6DoF on the heads and the TWO controllers that come with them, along with the other improvements in resolution, field of view, and whatever else) they're going to be game changers.
If you have a Go you should try out Hoppin' its a new app that allows you to hang out in real world places with friends/family - pretty much like teleportation!
I impulsively just bought this before even watching this review lol I hope I like it. Tried VR with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 and I really liked it so I think I’ll enjoy this one
technically speaking, Oculus Go is currently close to perfect device for VR porn. The only downside is that it doesnt play videos higher than 4K. So glad this came out. Amazing quality for just 200 dollars.
Once the screen door effect is eliminated then I would buy a VR headset. Minimizing the screen door effect doesn't cut it for me. It needs to be gone completely. Looking at anything with a screen door effect is like watching a 640x480 VGA monitor from the late 80's.
Avengant glyph is not vr. Its projects a rectangular screen infront of you, its not vr. You can view video with it (watch a movie or play games with your mouse and keyboard) avengant is only a screen. It has no motion controls or anything
I always said VR won’t truly take off until it’s wireless and the price point it lower than $400. Damn Oculus pumped that out fast! Oculus Go seems great and I know Genn 2 will be even better!
Is the screen actually good enough to enjoy watching Netflix, TV or is it just a gimmick that you’ll use for a few episodes and go back to your laptop/TV after? I’ve tried watching videos on VR in the past and it had potential, but it seemed so far off in terms of resolution, and that screen door effect. This is very promising though, it might not be worth buying for VR enthusiasts, but it’s a good sign that good VR will become affordable and hopefully VR with 6 degrees of freedom will be able to be contained in an affordable VR device like this. Ideally a VR device could do both mobile VR for when you’re traveling or don’t have access or own a gaming PC, but also connect to a PC when you want to play the more more intensive games.
It's not impossible that at somepoint we will have headset like this that will stream data directly from your pc (as an option) Maybe Santa Cruz 2, who knows ?
pumpuppthevolume : Nop the balance between software and hardware integration way better on the oculus go. I'm lucky enough to work in a VR studio so I've tried all available VR headset and oculus go is really a solid product, I've used it at job, at home and even in public transport and I must say that it is really a capable device. The screen resolution is great, you don't have the screen door FX, the lenses are very clear . The chromatic aberration is noticeable at first but overall it's a solid product for 200$
Mark ....my point was as far as the image quality being close(which is what he was wondering about).....especially with a 1440p phone with smaller screen......obviously the go removes the friction of a gear vr ...but it's not capable of anything more than a gearvr as far as apps and tracking
evilution They didn't make color movies before color TVs were available. People didn't use cars before before roads were made for them. You build it and the rest will follow. Also I was joking. I'm still right though lol.
Facebook and Xiaomi have a partnership in place, where the Mi VR will be released in China, which has an Oculus logo under the strap, and the Mi logo upfront. The other big difference is it'll have Xiaomi providing the software side of things since Facebook services are blocked in China. So the reason for it? Probably some kinda compromise/acknowledgement of both party's partnership.
3 degrees of freedom, and basic controllers? I'll stick with my Dell vr headset for only $250, that has more degrees of freedom, great controllers, great resolution, and only $50 more than this. Also, if I wanted vr anywhere, I'd just use a phone based vr headset
Kellen Bluestein I have a 100$ ZTE phone lol so this is for me not for anyone that already has a VR headset or has a gaming PC or has a stupidly expensive phone.
Try a new App from Melody VR, amazing for concerts there’s nothing like this available anywhere else. You can be on stage, in the crowd or back stage. This is what VR is good for.
Bigscreen developer here. YES! Bigscreen is an Oculus Go launch title, available today! It features cross-platform social VR with the Rift/Vive/SteamVR/WinMR users. It also has "Bigscreen Remote Desktop" which allows you to stream your Windows PC desktop screen INTO your Oculus Go, wirelessly! Sit back on your couch and wirelessly play your fav PC videogame, watch movies, etc.
1080p30 and high latency (100-200ms) today (it's an experimental, in-dev feature) but we'll have a big update to "Bigscreen Remote Desktop" later this month that has 60fps, full resolution, and sub-25ms latency. That'll be better for gaming. Give us a bit more time. Until then, it works right now today and great for streaming movies from your PC to your Go/Gear
They mention it would be cool to stream desktop to it and play computer games... Looks like not everyone knows that: - it's already possible with GearVR+Stream Theater app. And with Reshade + Super3D(freeware) you can play any 3D Game in real VR (left and right eye sees different picture).
can you imagine sitting next to someone on a plane wearing this and they start a porno not realizing everyone can hear the audio without headphones 😂😂😂
the GO is the third highest resolution in the mass market, the first one is htc vive pro (as expected from a 1200+ headset only), second being 2960 * 1440 from.... u guested, the galaxy phone
Interesting they don’t have a focal adjustment and sell lenses separately. Good if it’s just you, but harder to share with glasses wearers. One of the great things with Gear VR was you can take off your glasses and adjust for a clear picture (within reason).
@@samgraves2 I know a lot about this headset! It's got some different optimizations built in and comes with a bunch of free content. Find me on Twitter if you want to know more, I don't want to be annoying in the comments
This will be perfect for my sister who has a horrible disease that has left her completely paralyzed. She can only move one or two muscles and that is more of a switch. This will allow her to experience new worlds without leaving her bed. She doesn't need the six degrees of freedom which often cause nausea. So her sitting in one spot but being able to see 3D and be in a different space is a godsend. She will be able to watch her TV shows more clearly and comfortably and be able to use apps for relaxing and meditation. This may really bring her some peace and joy in her final few months she has left.
Heaney but this only has 3 degrees of freedom , at that point just use a phone which everyone should alr have for vr with cardboard or gearvr . I rather wait for the next version with 6 degree
"Everyone" does not have a Daydream or Gear VR capable phone. You *could* buy an older Samsung phone for cheap-ish and the Gear VR, but the Go would still be much, much cheaper.
notexactlypaul just look on eBay , a used/refurbished s7 is going for $140-$250 . And a gearvr is going for $15-$60 . So it isn't much cheaper or cheaper at all
This is cool I wish that they would make a go 2 for 150 or 200 dollars like this or maybe a phone vr headset but instead of putting the screen infront of the lenses have the data go through a cable to a better screen
"Like a GearVR or Google Daydream..." Then it's useless. (Then I read the top comment about the lack of a RUclips app) ... Is there such a thing as worse than useless? There is! "Worse than worthless" is the phrase of the day here: Something that is not only unnecessary or useless, but is also a legitimate drain on effort and resources. Parasitic for lack of a better word.
Xion Eternum yep it's just a neat more convenient gearvr...... it's pretty sad that they didn't do 6dof with the first gen of their self contained headsets
I have a Vive and a Daydream, and they both have their place. I'm not going to bring my $4,000 PC and monitor and $800 headset, controllers, and base stations on vacation to show off VR to my friends and family. Being able to toss a cheap portable unit in my bag to have a few hours of fun on a long trip is great.
Drew Williams lol showing off vr with a 3dof headset..... when u can obviously afford the lenovo and give people a real vr experience ....... 3dof needs to die and it will happen with the next gen Go when the SD935 is cheap and they add 2 cheap cameras
pumpuppthevolume it's 200 not 300 not 400 not 1000 and it's doesn't need a 1000 phone or a 2000 PC to work it is just the headset an small controller I think this has great potential for VR social games on the cheap and absolutely everyone can get in on it that is the point
it's 250 with ok storage at 64gb ....and without 6dof is just a nice neat demo toy ....and the second generation with a sd835 and 2 cheap cameras will give u a real vr experience where u can actually move your head and walk in the virtual space and it will be most likely 250-300 bucks
While I like the Vive best personally, and I use a laptop to make it portable, but that's obviously not the most practical solution. For mobile VR I'd say Daydream is pretty compelling, while it has some terrible tracking issues it makes a nice little RUclips viewer.
It would be nice to have an OLED display just to get HDR movie support. 4K is of limited benefit for movie watching, but HDR really makes movies pop. Add 3D support and you'd have a feature that even 3D blu-rays can't match (because UHD left off 3D support).
OLED looks bad in vr. I compared Samsung S7 with LG G2 (IPV) in BoboVR(I think) and the pixels in S7 were more visible/annoying. I also see them in S7+GearVR, so I think the subpixel layout has a lot to do with it.
This just reminds me of the head sets you put your cell phone in. Maybe vr doesn't work for me I just never got the immersive feeling with those cell phone be head sets. I haven't tried one hooked up to a computer yet
10:27 exactly. By doing that some games seem like they have 6 dof like dead and buried or v vr or even that animov game coming soon Also I noticed that seemingly they both have two different oppinions
When they mention full 6DOF VR systems they almost always leave out PlayStation VR. I've used Vive, Rift, and PSVR and they're all great systems. Personally I prefer PSVR since it's the most comfortable of the three and you don't have to deal with the hassle of a Windows system.
I feel like this technology could be pretty cool for stuff like larping (coming from someone who's never larped. Maybe it would suck...but it seems like it could be pretty awesome )

I'm buying 3. One for myself and one each for my grandchildren. What a way to keep in contact with them, watch movies together and play games together from many miles away. So cool...
can you connect it to your iPhone?
Hi Michael, yes you can use your iphone to connect to the GO
I don't think that's one of the features. Virtual reality is much more geared towards video games. It is nowhere near to projecting someone else into your view. I would not buy it if you want something to close the gap between you and your grandkids.

She loves it, but she has an iPhone and so can't use one of the other mobile headsets like the Daydream or Gear VR. I think this just about fits the bill perfectly.
Goes on vacation with family. Gets to hotel. Everyone unpacks. And then he puts on a VR set to leave his family behind. Lol

Someone gets it. Just ordered one today myself.
This kind of price point was relevant when 50 inch TVs cost $10,000 and projector started at 15K. Nowadays you can get a 50 inch TV for 300 bucks. Oculus Go video quality really sucks. The chromatic aberrations are horrible.
True. I know for a fact that the Netflix app only goes to 480p

I think it's a waste of time. They should spend their money on R&D, and get out a proper consumer VR headset. Chinese companies have made these kinds of headsets for years already, so it's nothing new.
A smartphone with the best software and hardware for VR, and a great Google cardboard clone would be way better.
50 bucks for 32GB. Just great. How about a sdcard slot? No, that would be too consumer friendly.
That's an expensive upgrade
ur talking about apple?
Oculus is that apple of vr
Rafał Sobczyk Quite a few actually. Galaxy S9, Note 9, Mate 10 Pro and lots of others. But we aren't talking about phones, we're talking about an HDM with custom designed hardware. Why shouldn't it include expandable storage, especially if it's completely standalone.

I feel like this can be a very good gaming headset for people with small rooms / nowhere for a 6 degree movement setup. So you can sit down and play native or none native vr games with a controller, IF they allow you to ether stream from your PC with a very low latency or to have a light wire which allows a fast connection.
Get a quest 2
As a Vive owner/lover, I think something like this will be perfect for watching movies/TV shows on a 10hr plane flight or similar, as long as it's comfortable enough. I wish they'd have included an SD card slot though.... Also I wish it could somehow include a video input so I could, for example, play my Nintendo Switch on a virtual 70" screen whilst on a plane, but I get why that might be too much to ask....
10hr plane flight? Epson Moverio ftw.
FYI, you as a developer can enable chromatic aberration correction in Go, it just takes some CPU power.
It's a purely software thing.
Kaz it's 200$ what do you want?
He's just saying that no, what Heaney suggested isn't possible on this hardware, not that it should be able to despite the price.
They would have destoryed every VR headset if this thing had USB-C... like you could charge, use it to montior from a usb-c device, data transfer, expand storage and more!! I'd pay $50-100 more if it had that and slightly higher res optics.
That's a good point, if it had USB-C it could theoretically be configured to function as an external display over the DP or HDMI Alt-Mode.
I Remember having one, i wish i still had that thing
This is the first product that Tested has ever reviewed that I am genuinely interested in purchasing.
SPcamert same here
I am happy to own a htc vive.
Christian Best hey buy noise canceling earphones I also have a vive and I use noise canceling earphones and It removes totally everything
Oculus Fap
Underrated comment.
x munki Oculus Goo
Rule 34a If the MM (medium of media) exists there will be Adult content produced for it no exceptions!
The quality for videos is so good, we decided to do a giveaway to bring more attention to the go and our twitch channel!
clips.twitch.tv/PolishedPatientAyeayeGivePLZ
I just laughed so hard lmao 😂
Due to your very thorough review, I am now well informed about the "Go". As an avid gamer and movie goer, I was curious on how this will suffice my cravings. You explained everything I need to know that other reviewers out there failed to do. Subscribed and thank you!
I want a hdmi in. Imagine playing switch over this on the go.
Keren Wang that’d be pretty sweet actually, but don’t you need a dock?
YourAverageCommenter really??? And play in cinema mode? Sold!
Fuuuuck that would be so much fun for long plane rides. So many batteries to charge though.
Gmayor61 I don’t get your comment 100%? I mean you can display any .mp4 footage - right? So why would it be difficult to take a signal into the device and display it the same way the Netflix app or the cinema app works?
It seems to be a closed environment. No ability to cast to it. It’s a tv to buy Facebook content on. Could be great if the platform was opened up
So I have mine and it’s great for what it is designed for. It’s easy quality accessible VR. It’s an amazing stand alone system that will be available to a larger audience. Yes, it’s not as fancy as your rift or Vive, but keep in mind it’s stand alone and not attached to your pc.
No RUclips app is a deal breaker..
RUclips is shit
Yeah, it sucks not to have a dedicated app, but it should work just fine in the browser.
The real deal breaker is not being able to use it lying down...
Just use Bigscreen and go to youtube.com
The app is shit anyway.
Why?
The RUclips app is garbage
Having bought one, I was amazed by the sound quality. The speakers really blow sound into your ear, even to a point where I was using it for an hour and it just hit me "darn, I don't have headphone one". Really love it, as headphones on top of a VR HMD can get annoying. Very well designed by Oculus.
I was very excited for this device... but this video somehow did not convince me.. at all... :(
what was your expectation off device😍
Not sure what you were expecting. Tech-wise, it was always pretty clear that it's basically a Gear VR with better optics.
I love how I don't need an expensive phone for it to work. It seems like it is worth the money. Can't wait to try it out.
I was ready to buy this until I saw this! Maybe waiting for the next model to be released would be better..
Elvis S..... and the 6dof Lenovo Daydream headset is basically a cheaper vive focus
Excellent review, I just bought one and haven't set it up yet due to time constraints, but I decided to scan RUclips and see what the reviews said about it since that requires very little time. Watching your review makes me want to set it up immediately...thank you.
Since I own an Oculus Rift I can't go back to "3 degree VR" because I'm so used to being able to move my head in any direction
Even for sitting VR it's an immersion killing thing when you're not able to move your head around (a little bit).
KiemPlant Games why would you waste your money on this if you already have a Rift anyway?
Yup, same. 3DOF sucks. I wish they'd stop working on any device without full motion tracking. It's a waste of time.
KiemPlant Games I'm fairly sure that the Windows Mixed Reality headsets use built-in cameras for roomscale tracking.
Generic Channel You still need a PC for those headsets.
Sold on VR as well. Have the rift, and just order the GO from Amazon. It arrives May 3... CANT WAIT!
Wait, did you say no god rays???!!!
laserob yes
Somebody needs to clean his fingernails.
Thomas Pasieka whahahaha ja😂😂😂🤷♂️🙋♀️
Thomas Pasieka Hopefully he doesn't need help and can clean them himself
Let's assume that's chocolate.
Its weed resin from smoking literally all day and fapping in vr.
Eeew. Damn it. Why did you point this out to me? I'll throw up ; - ; (bacteriophobic
A phone/tablet still has a leg up on this because you can run Trinus VR and link it to your PC and play games that way.
Waaaw you can go on vacation and then load up VR job simulator
Brought this for my son. He loves it, but not as much as me. Great variety of apps and so much fun. For the money I highly recommend
"This may be a replacement for a TV for some people"
lol
Pretty real statement. I rather watch stuff in the go than on normal tv.
The zucc sent you a rift
just brought one, super excited they launched the GO today
I wonder if these Go lenses could be used on a Vive/Vive Pro just like the Gear VR lenses which are (so far) superior to any of the existing PC VR headsets... :)
SweViver there not better than Odyssey lens
The 2017 Gearvr I mean .
The Go lens are likely better
Razor E I haven't done direct lens comparisons (yet) between my Odyssey and GearVR lenses on my Vive but I would say the sweet spot is bigger on the GearVR and also less glare/god rays. But having that said, Odyssey has great lenses of course!
SweViver I have the Odyssey and 2017 gearvr and yes both have great lens.
I find the sweet spot is bigger on Odyssey.
Both have god rays but in different spots I find.
The gear I find has god rays around the lens edges.
I would love to try the Go to compare lens
You should buy an oculus go and try it. I await the video.
from what I've heard there are pros and cons to the lenses.
Kaz ive been using box goggles for the entire year ive been flying quads lol...maybe its just me though, i own a Vive and play a ton of video games
I personally love this VR system . Bought it in 32 and 64 gb and couldn’t be happier
Can we be honest? The Oculus Go is for porn.
Not yet. I'm sure that there is some hacker working on it.
Dennis, Yiff.
Not buying a new headset till its 6dof, wireless, and self contained
I guess that's too much to ask... See you in 10 years when it's actually worth it.
Fuzzycat That's not much to ask. Oculus are releasing a headset that does exactly that next year: Oculus Santa Cruz.
Fuzzycat you must not understand technology to think something with that kind of functionality requires 10 years from where we are now of research and development
2 out of 3 for 200$ isn't bad. Wait for the next model or other brands coming out soon.
It's called sarcasm you idiots.
I think the best thing about the Oculus Go is it allows a majority of people that don't have high end Pc's the opportunity to have/try VR, and at a cheaper price.
soooo.. what's the batery life like? 20 minutes? or could I watch movies throughout an international flight?
2.5 hours. Had no problem watching all of justice league
No chance. That battery gets murdered running all those CPUs and gyros and shit
2.5hrs is still hella short.
You can call it bullshit but that's the specs.
2.5 hours for movies. Less for games that involve 3D graphics.
Looking at the price point, if you’re looking to get into VR, I’d go for the WMR series instead. If you’re looking for that phone VR experience but don’t wanna pay the price of a new phone, the Oculus Go seems like a good choice.
Off topic, but does anyone know where to pick up Norman's shirt?
It's so awesome
How does it compare to Daydream??
it doesn't need a phone
Jimbo Gamer derp.. I wasn't thinking about that 😂😂😂 But I'd still like to know how it compares, seeing how most people own a smartphone and you can get the Daydream for about $50.
Yeah, but then I’m pretty Shore that daydream dosnt have touch controls unlike oculus go, day dream and oculus go are very similar but oculus go has many better things compared to day dream
Rule 34b When a Person can access Adult content on all VR Headsets being Compared all tests can be measured.
"most people own a smartphone" - Daydream doesn't work with ANY smartphone. Smartphone for Daydream cost much more then 200$
Thanks for this review, answered a lot of my questions, especially about the storage of media.
Also for mentioning the 6DoF version is coming, which in my personal opinion is worth the wait.
Thank you for the different points of view. I'm waiting for mine to arrive on May 11. Could you plug in the charger while using it?
yes you can
Yes, but not recommended by Oculus. Unit can overheat and safety shutdown may engage.
Please review the Lenovo Mirage Solo
Ray Dar it will be out on the 11th
If you have a Go you should try out Hoppin' its a new app that allows you to hang out in real world places with friends/family - pretty much like teleportation!
Still waiting on Xbox to get VR, hell they don't even have a key board yet
I suspect Xbox will ultimately integrate the Windows Mixed Reality headset.
Steven Ingram Nah... Microsoft has something better than those planned.
What do you mean they don't have a keyboard, I can use a keyboard and mouse on my Xbox.
sigh.... i really wanted this to be compatible with the xbox.... :(
Still waiting on xbox to get some decent exclusive titles.
Daydream view is much cheaper and it plays RUclips. What's this like compared to the avegant glyph?
Avengant glyph is not vr. Its projects a rectangular screen infront of you, its not vr. You can view video with it (watch a movie or play games with your mouse and keyboard) avengant is only a screen. It has no motion controls or anything
I always said VR won’t truly take off until it’s wireless and the price point it lower than $400. Damn Oculus pumped that out fast! Oculus Go seems great and I know Genn 2 will be even better!
Well oculus quest is launching next year for $399
Is the screen actually good enough to enjoy watching Netflix, TV or is it just a gimmick that you’ll use for a few episodes and go back to your laptop/TV after?
E get your hands on a gearvr or daydream or chinese headset for a phone...... and a 1440p phone..... it's pretty similar image quality
You will not be happy based on your current observations. Skip this product.
pumpuppthevolume : Nop the balance between software and hardware integration way better on the oculus go.
I have the oculus go as well! I love to use it ❤️
Can you play Steam games via Riftcat / Vridge????
yes
www.windowscentral.com/how-play-steamvr-games-oculus-go any game that uses a gamepad
I like the idea, and i have tested 1, but i believe there will be huge improvements in the next years, so im gonna wait a bit...
Hurry up and do 8k per eye!
evilution They didn't make color movies before color TVs were available. People didn't use cars before before roads were made for them. You build it and the rest will follow.
Also I was joking. I'm still right though lol.
Thank you guys for such a thorough review!
I have one big question about logo visible on the device in 1:00.... Why is there a Xiomi mi brand logo on oculus Go ??
Facebook and Xiaomi have a partnership in place, where the Mi VR will be released in China, which has an Oculus logo under the strap, and the Mi logo upfront. The other big difference is it'll have Xiaomi providing the software side of things since Facebook services are blocked in China. So the reason for it? Probably some kinda compromise/acknowledgement of both party's partnership.
manufactured by xiomi
Savage Hamster it's Xiomi made..... just like "Google phones" r made by... whatever company
I have a Vive. Was thinking about messing around with this just because....I love VR! LOL
3 degrees of freedom, and basic controllers? I'll stick with my Dell vr headset for only $250, that has more degrees of freedom, great controllers, great resolution, and only $50 more than this. Also, if I wanted vr anywhere, I'd just use a phone based vr headset
Kellen Bluestein the point is it needs nothing
Touch of Chaos I know, but a phone doesn't need anything other than a headset, and that's basically what this is
Kellen Bluestein I have a 100$ ZTE phone lol so this is for me not for anyone that already has a VR headset or has a gaming PC or has a stupidly expensive phone.
Touch of Chaos yeah, as a budget, stand alone option withough a high end phone, this is good
Kellen Bluestein so should I get the the 200 or 250 version? How much memory do you think these apps take?
Try a new App from Melody VR, amazing for concerts there’s nothing like this available anywhere else. You can be on stage, in the crowd or back stage. This is what VR is good for.
Does it do Bigscreen?
Yep, with cross platform with desktop users, coming out soon
Bigscreen developer here. YES! Bigscreen is an Oculus Go launch title, available today! It features cross-platform social VR with the Rift/Vive/SteamVR/WinMR users.
It also has "Bigscreen Remote Desktop" which allows you to stream your Windows PC desktop screen INTO your Oculus Go, wirelessly! Sit back on your couch and wirelessly play your fav PC videogame, watch movies, etc.
Definitely interested in the quality of streaming remote desktop. Definition and latency?
1080p30 and high latency (100-200ms) today (it's an experimental, in-dev feature) but we'll have a big update to "Bigscreen Remote Desktop" later this month that has 60fps, full resolution, and sub-25ms latency. That'll be better for gaming. Give us a bit more time. Until then, it works right now today and great for streaming movies from your PC to your Go/Gear
Thanks for this video! I'm literally debating right now if I should buy it. :)
They mention it would be cool to stream desktop to it and play computer games... Looks like not everyone knows that: - it's already possible with GearVR+Stream Theater app. And with Reshade + Super3D(freeware) you can play any 3D Game in real VR (left and right eye sees different picture).
can you imagine sitting next to someone on a plane wearing this and they start a porno not realizing everyone can hear the audio without headphones 😂😂😂
why would you watch porn in an airplane= watch porn without jerking off
haha
but i get what you mean
the GO is the third highest resolution in the mass market, the first one is htc vive pro (as expected from a 1200+ headset only), second being 2960 * 1440 from.... u guested, the galaxy phone
can Minecraft VR run in the Oculus Go
Justin Frost yeah it can
Manuel Tapia $200 is too much for it
Minecraft is for pussies
Rem true, roblox is where it’s at
If you have a wireless harddrive you can store your videos and photos on that and then stream them through a web browser.
The intro is toooooooooooooo damnnnnnnnnnnn looooooooooong
Interesting they don’t have a focal adjustment and sell lenses separately. Good if it’s just you, but harder to share with glasses wearers. One of the great things with Gear VR was you can take off your glasses and adjust for a clear picture (within reason).
This is a VR porn viewer. We all know it.
@@pvrfun9820 Specially made? What does it do that Oculus Rift cant?
At 200 you could just buy a windows MR headset .
But it requires a gaming PC, which costs $800.
Go requires nothing.
Heaney but this only has 3 degrees of freedom , at that point just use a phone which everyone should alr have for vr with cardboard or gearvr . I rather wait for the next version with 6 degree
"Everyone" does not have a Daydream or Gear VR capable phone. You *could* buy an older Samsung phone for cheap-ish and the Gear VR, but the Go would still be much, much cheaper.
notexactlypaul yeah but ,you also get a phone with it . Something way more useful
notexactlypaul just look on eBay , a used/refurbished s7 is going for $140-$250 .
Drew Williams lol showing off vr with a 3dof headset..... when u can obviously afford the lenovo and give people a real vr experience
....... 3dof needs to die and it will happen with the next gen Go when the SD935 is cheap and they add 2 cheap cameras
pumpuppthevolume it's 200 not 300 not 400 not 1000 and it's doesn't need a 1000 phone or a 2000 PC to work it is just the headset an small controller I think this has great potential for VR social games on the cheap and absolutely everyone can get in on it that is the point
it's 250 with ok storage at 64gb ....and without 6dof is just a nice neat demo toy ....and the second generation with a sd835 and 2 cheap cameras will give u a real vr experience where u can actually move your head and walk in the virtual space and it will be most likely 250-300 bucks
just got one yesterday, thanks!
It's for porn.
dont tell your parents about that. keep the secret ;)
While I like the Vive best personally, and I use a laptop to make it portable, but that's obviously not the most practical solution. For mobile VR I'd say Daydream is pretty compelling, while it has some terrible tracking issues it makes a nice little RUclips viewer.
no oled display.....
You just need a high resolution screen with no ghosting.
MrTBoneSF There is 3D support
...
MrTBoneSF you don’t need oled to have hdr
I think, this device will have a great potential with cloud vr gaming.
10:04 anyone else distracted by how nasty this dude's finger nails are?
This just reminds me of the head sets you put your cell phone in. Maybe vr doesn't work for me I just never got the immersive feeling with those cell phone be head sets. I haven't tried one hooked up to a computer yet
10:27 exactly. By doing that some games seem like they have 6 dof like dead and buried or v vr or even that animov game coming soon
Also I noticed that seemingly they both have two different oppinions
The Vive Focus will have WorldSense technology which lets you to walk around the area without any camera.
When they mention full 6DOF VR systems they almost always leave out PlayStation VR. I've used Vive, Rift, and PSVR and they're all great systems. Personally I prefer PSVR since it's the most comfortable of the three and you don't have to deal with the hassle of a Windows system.
Very nice review!
