The game even focuses SO hard to make you think it's your character that will disappear per usual.
Yeah why does every game end with someone disappearing AKA dying? I mean yeah the main pokemon is from a different world or time period but come on, have some diversity besides making them disappear or dying.
I knew it was coming yet I still got hurt from this departure

+Lightning Master Apparently Satoru Iwata worked quite a bit on Pokemon Go so I wouldn't be surprised if his name was on that, or on other things releasing early next year such as Twilight princess HD, Pokken Tournament, Starfox Zero, And maybe even Zelda Wii U (although that last one probably is coming later next year, it still has been in development for a long time so he probably worked on it.)

Just finished the story today. I was so depressed I just went to bed. I even had a dream I was looking for my partner. That's really, really cheesy, but man, this ending hit me hard. I grew too attached to my partner I guess. It doesn't help that the backdrop to the credits is 'that' scene.
When you start up your file again, your character talks about how much they didn't want to leave, but when they really think about it, they mostly just didn't want to leave their partner. Kind of hits the nail on the head for me, honestly. I mean, sure, you and your partner have made plenty of 'friends,' but they're really more like acquaintances really. Your partner felt like the only "real" friend you had. Not to mention, your partner started off pretty much friendless in the beginning before you came along. It's just not right man. Why do bad things have to happen to good Pokemon?

OK so I have a theory, when Mew said he was reborn, and that previously Dark Matter was failed to be beaten, I believe they mean all of the previous mystery dungeon games, The shooting star that Rayquaza broke was destined to come back but more powerful, and it did in the form of Darkrai, which after being beaten once more, Dark Matter chose not to give up and was reborn again as Bittercold and after being beat one last time, was ready to make one last strike, he chose to assume his final form, but never expected that if he were accepted, he would never come back.
And so your partner in every mystery dungeon was mew, but just didn't know it... deep. Very. Deep.
That would explain why Hydreigon in this game says he knows you.
Also, if Xerneas is the Tree of Life in the Water Continent, and Hydreigon is the Voice of Life of supposedly another continent...huh. Everything fits.
I don't think dark matter is the antagonist every time, a meteor can be any meteor possible, more we know it's linked to deoxys.
Darkrai is Darkrai, he's pretty evil in explorer but that's still an already existing pokémon.
Bittercold is surely another dark matter so we could say gti is the ancient time described BUT D that's the biggest argument, a lot of characters reappear here which means every games is not very far away of another, and if hydreigon recognize you, I'm pretty sure she (yes I'm using she, I have reason but don't want to expand here) recognize not the hero but YOU, the same way she broke the fourth wall in gti, meaning or it's a joke or the hero is the same everytime and I don't think because I already said all games were connected in super.

This game had a powerful impact on me at the end and it to be honest was one of my biggest tearfests when it comes to games. I could barely read because I was crying so much. Pokemon MD has a way of delivering impactful endings by taking you through the development of the characters and then taking them away from you in the end. It's hard not to feel the emotion of the characters, especially in this particular game. I love the plot twist, I love the story in general, and I love the game's presentation. Beautiful.
Anyone think that don't give up scene was badass as all hell?

ikr? explorers of time,sky, and darkness always made me cry the most though. even at the end of the special episode where u play as grovyle. what made me cry about that was that all the pokemon of the future still existed but grovyle never goes back to the past to see the player.

Just a small thing I noticed: Dark Matter's type changes based on the starter you are. In my play through, as Riolu, he alternated from ghost to fairy to psychic/fighting/bug (can't remember which one).
In this fight, he goes from fire to dragon to water. The game devs purposely made DM's typing to be better, which I personally think is really neat.

Question, isn't Arceus supposed to be all powerful enough to be able to do something about Dark Matter?
Maybe it already did. Perhaps by creating the player.
The Partner literally states "simply defeating Dark Matter isn't enough" because Dark Matter isn't a person, or an object it's a construct of the collective negativity of all Pokémon. So if Arceus simply killed it, it would just come back stronger and the cycle would repeat itself since DM will continue to exist as long as Pokémon become consumed by/never confront their negative traits. The Partner/Mew ended that cycle by not only defeating it, but with the collective will of all Pokémon accepted DM as a part of life thus truly killing it.
Dark matter is even more powerful.

Well, that was an unexpected ending I did not expect to happen. I guess everyone was expecting for them self to disappear, but not their partner. Good job Pokemon Company and Chunsoft. You surprised me with that ending a little bit there!! ;P

But on the other hand, Dark Matter has no type, so maybe Type Bulldozer won't work.
***** actually Dark matter has a type , Dark typing. It took super effective damage from my Riolu's (Felix was his name) Focus Blast and Force Palm but took non effective damage from his Bite

When you think about it...Dark Matter is a Pokemon; it is all Pokemon's dark feelings to create a single being, but still retains their voices as well as whatever feelings they had, including sadness and fear.

This was a twist I really didn't expect… I knew someone was gonna disappear… but I really didn't think the partner was the one to go… Its always the human… but it was the partner… and to even learn that your partner was really Mew this entire time… I love the MD series… there are many things you don't expect in the game and you keep moving forward to learn the truth and twist! But this one was hard without reviver seeds, thank goodness i had 2 tiny ones left and only one to spare in the end. Now to get back my partner..
Also i just realized, Given this context the Human is not actually the one who was gonna have to leave, it was gonna be the partner, but what if the human actually wanted to go back to their world?
The hero and partner go on to save the world, and the human, knowing that they're going to be leaving soon, gets somewhat excited to be going back home, but the partner reveals to them that they're the one leaving, meaning that the hero would be stuck in the pokemon world for the rest of their life, whether they like it or not.
I just want to say thank you so much for this walkthrough. It was very helpful to me throughout the whole game. Whenever I needed to know how many floors are in a dungeon or just to gauge whether I'm overleveled or underleveled, I love would always type in PhoenixMaster1 into RUclips. Thank you so much. I wouldn't be able to complete my game as easy and stress free if you hadn't taken time out of your life to upload this on RUclips for other people.

Crying.... it is natural yet it is seen as sadness. In this case, it is, but not always. We are not always crying out of sadness, but sometimes out of happiness or respect for those who gave themselves for a goal. That is why crying can be indicating of many emotions. I love PMD and have cried at the endings for every game I played.
If you pay very close attention at about 22:42, you can see Dark Matter is saying "ThAnK yOU."

TheLordOfBugs IKR! But, I was just watching a full playthrough with no distractions! And it still destroyed my first time seeing the ending to perhaps my favourite game of the year... I liked a lot of it though, and when it comes out for us next year I'll get it no question.
I 'll have to admit that the music for the ending was not as emotional as the one for Explorers of Time, Darkness and Sky. That music really got the feels going.
Damn, how I want a PMD movie! I'm just imagining how most if not all parts of the storyline were the same in a movie and when people came to watch it, they'll be DAMN, a pokemon game can have a story like this?!

Man that ending is just wow that really hit me so hard
I don't know how... Maybe I'm just that much of a sap... But even having watched the story through about 5 times by now, i still get the same feelings I got though watching the story the first time even though I know what's coming(even if albeit they weren't as intense as they were the first time around). The sense of betrayal when you find out Nuzleaf's secret, the pride you fell when the world you save the world,... and...(sniff)... the sadness... of seeing the partner fading into the light that the player thought was going to be whisked away by. I always felt sad that you'd say goodbye to your partner at the end of each game, but to be left in the Pokemon world without him/her instead of the other way around... And the fact that the Partner doesn't just "end up somewhere else", but actually disappears (kind of like what happens to the Player in Explorers), it's so much to take in that i can't help but tear up even if all I do is listen to the music that plays during the scene. And then having to just try and move on from it alongside the player [YOU] and just do what'd you do normally without your best friend. It's so different from the other games. In those games you felt sad for the you AND the partner, but it was mostly for the partner because you saw how they were portrayed and what they were like after the event. But now... it's you... your the one who was still alive in the Pokemon world... you feel bad for the player... you feel bad for YOURSELF... and that kind of sadness, IMO at least, can last a lot longer than when you feel sad for somebody else. Even the first time watching or going through this yourself you know that you'll eventually find a way to get your partner back (as is tradition, though it's usually the player who would be brought back...sniff...sorry) the sadness I had up until that point was probably the longest I've been THAT sad for THAT long. And i'm getting these feelings from a Pokemon game. And I know that the series is capable of stuff like this, so it's not that I underestimated this and was proved completely wrong. It's that even with that knowledge, my expectations were blown out of the water, and the feelings I had were so personal that I can't help but feel these same feelings every single time I watch this story. Just a great story all around... And hopefully this isn't the last one.... but even if it is.......... It ended on a GREAT note...

Hero (red rescue team): I disappeared from existence for 5 minutes and that made 25 year old guys cry.
Hero (explorers): i disappeared from existence right after the final boss, left for months and my partner was heartbroken.

Well I mean, he's not invincible from a blast of being turned into stone, its the same scenario for all the other pokemon, Dark matter's energy is too strong.
