In my opinion, the best ways of learning a new language are, to watch a tv series or a movie with the audio and subtitles in the same language, listen to podcasts, read the news, switch your phone in that language, buy books, buy a dictionary, take classes, join a club of conversation, have a foreign friend, listen to music and search the lyrics, practice every day. Search articles you want to read...That is what I do! I hope someone finds it useful. Cheers from Argentina!

well, if you ask me, something that has worked for me is to watch a lot of English content. Even when you've had a long day.. A good piece of advice is to brush up on what you already know and be patient, don't do it in a hurry.. If you are going to read a paragraph, make sure you understand it, and if you don't, just look up the unknown words.. Good look everyone in this amazing journey as learning a new language is!

Lately I've been using social media to get better at english, I would say I've started using it in that way since March or April (more or less), especially RUclips and Instagram, it is amazing the amount of people who wants to help you to improve your english for free in these platforms! My first daily podcast that I found was 6 Minutes English from BBC, and then I've found other podcasts like this one (and it's a great podcast by the way). Also i use social media to keep informed about dentistry up dates due i'm a dentist.
Internet tools can be a very useful resource if you want to get better and also it can help you to reach your goals. Right now my aim goal is being fluent at english, i'm trying harder than in the past, I'd say I've taking it seriously since March and I noticed that I have improved a lot and that's makes me feel very happy.
I'm aware that I still have a lot of mistakes, but.. You know "if you are not having mistakes is because you're not trying".
    Greetings for all!

@@thuhuong6678 Hi there! I have kept progressing my english througout this time since my comment on this video. I usually watch movies and series in their original language (english indeed) with subtitles, also I changed my phone settings to english, in that way I have got used to the language, every time I have the opportunity I have a call with a partner from Netherlands who is quiet fluent at english and I help her out with spanish. The principal thing on all this is still motivated and enjoy the process!

Hi Jack! Thanks for sharing your thoughts around this important subject which is in my agenda too. I must admit time I spend on my phone and number of distractions coming out of it are something which frustrated me now. Although I found social media is one of the tools to learn foreign languages it seems to me I'm hugely getting distracted by scrolling down the feed. So recently I've applied a notification which informs me about a threshold beyond which I committed not to go. Sticking to this new rule has allowed me to wisely spend the time.
I'd love to hear your daily podcast and share my feedback as well 😉

I like retelling. I think it will help me to write and speak without mistakes. So please check if there are any mistakes:
In the podcast, Jack talked about social media and phone use in general. During the podcast, Jack compared how people used phones in the past and now. In the past, people were hesitant before picking up their phones. But now people constantly scrolling on social media.
Also, Jack shared with story. His wife and he holds off using the phone until 2014. But after birth their child, they wanted to take his photo. That is why they bought mobile phone. And he said that one time he, even for a short time, was addicted. It was while election. He looked for news and every time thought about news of election. So he opened social media again and again.
As a solution, Jon suggested subscribing to only those people who release useful information for you. For example, if you are learning English, you should follow people who teach speaking English.
So we can make a choice between wasting time aimlessly or use internet for really useful and important things.

I have a similar experience with social media in terms of phone usage. It is really absurd finding myself addicted to social media, constantly scrolling and consuming valuable time that I could use for productive activities. I hate realizing this but feel like I can't do anything about it. Sometimes I find myself doing a serious task on a tight schedule, yet I still take out my phone and start scrolling.

This podcast is very attractive, it has caught my attention instantly; the information that it provides us about cell phones and social networks, currently people anywhere, situation they take out their cell phone without thinking twice and it is true, as something so necessary to take it out, that this is already normalized, there are people who do not pay attention to their around because they are on their cell phones, but as the podcast says, if you turn off the notifications you don't get distracted and you can enjoy the activity that you are going to do, but something positive is that the cell phone and social networks have helped us to communicate and even educate ourselves, only not all of us know how to use it correctly; For example, it would be when a family goes out to eat and everyone is on their cell phones, but if they turned off the notifications they could enjoy living together. This podcast, like all the others I've listened to, has completely captivated me.

The app I'm using most often for English learning is my vocabulary trainer ("My Dictionary"). I use it not only for vocabulary training, but also for writing practice, reading quotations aloud again and again and training of sentences. But lately I write more RUclips comments and in the vocabulary trainer I quote more the input, to acquire a better grammar.
I neglected my Duolingo English course, because it's too frustrating. The courses there are different from each other, and the English from German course is fine as long as they stay away from the time tenses... German times often look very similar if you translate word by word, and the rules when to apply which time tense are different. So translating sentences without context (and often without a hint when the thing happened) winds up in a chaos, in my opinion. I lately prefer Grammar lessons on RUclips, extensive reading (without Smartphone - I prefer novels of paper) and simply use my English.
I had decided to finish the Duolingo course before I search for a language exchange partner but if I work so little on it I have to rethink it.

I wrote about a *vocabulary trainer* which has the name "My dictionary". I really love it, because there are no predefined words in it and you can write own example sentences and even your own spaced repetition system (using tags).
My favorite *dictionary* is dicct(.cc). And sometimes I use Merriam Webbster, which is English-English, but has more example sentences and hints. Although dicct normally tells much more information about a word than I would recommend to try to store in your head!

I've read lot of comments and they all were right because most of the people had texted that use podcast. Yes I agreed with them but the most important thing is different that every person has forgotten and that is time. What I mean is unless your day is not arrange you would not be able to do anything that you're seeking for. And I'm sure you all guys have seen those people who says I'm not learning because I don't have a time. So to learn English or anything you got to create a ambiance. Then only you will be able to study/practice properly.
Like this comment if you like and let me know about whether or not you are agree.

My problem with learning to speak English is that I am not consistent, Every time I try something new, I just leave it hanging without finishing it. This has become my norm. I can't remember any book I have read and finished to the end. I really struggle with being consistent. It would be good if I had someone to practice with.
