This is the best version of this song that I have heard. Jam to it on my guitar all the time singing along with ya'll. Makes me proud to be from Appalachia!
Alex getting a little Gray! Knew him from Back Eddy. The Daytons just told me about Rock Hearts. Wait, there's Joe too with his awesome prewar 5 string (I assume). This has made my day!
It has been one of Dolly Parton's lifelong missions to improve literacy in Appalachia and you can help. Smokey is the name of a famous bear. The name of the Smoky Mountains is spelled without an 'e'. That is why people saying "On Top of Old Smokey" is so embarrassing.
Cecil Null wrote this song and he spelled "Smokey" how it spelled it. Changing the spelling in the title to fit today's understanding of how to spell won't do anything to improve literacy and it's an insult to Mr. Null. Literacy is the ability to read, write, speak and listen in a way that lets us communicate effectively and make sense of the world. I think this song, and Rock Hearts version of it, accomplish that very nicely.
Your rendering of this song absolutely pays due homage to The Osborne Brothers. Well done. Thank you for putting it out there for us to enjoy.
I have almost 1200 songs in my bluegrass playlist and this is one of the best I've added in a while. Excellent harmony and picking
As good as it gets 👍 Great Tune and sweet smokey Mountain picking 🇺🇸
Rock Hearts. A new bluegrass group I'll be following.

@@roadwarrior5810 It is worthy to note that the Osbourne Brothers spelled it both ways depending on the album.
Probably smoke from a bootlegger's fire.
