I've always liked the idea of a Caterham. But, they are far too expensive - all models. There's just not enough car or quality for the asking price I'm afraid. Thanks for the video.
MrZekToR great to hear from you and thanks for the message. It's a funny one. Very few cars can give you the same back-to-basics, pure driving thrills than the Caterham. But in reality (for most people) it's an expensive toy for the weekend. Amazing fun though.
The Caterham crowd are a bit obnoxious anyway, there are plenty of alternatives out there which are not only a hell of a lot cheaper and drive just as well, but the owners are friendly too. On the downside i've owned a car like this and I had to get rid of it, because every time you drive it you get bullied by 4x4s/Vans, people straddle two lanes to stop you passing, people shout abuse from their cars and whilst most people are OK, the negatives make it very hard to enjoy such a car. I started driving mine at night to avoid all the hassle, but then I figured what's the point???
At the top end of the kitcar scale, Westfield. But there are dozens of manufacturers making 7esque cars. The motoring press and the media snub their noses at kitcar makes other than Caterham because they don't have the historic link to Lotus. The motoring press really hate small car manufacturer, because some of them build cars that can easily take down top end supercars, for a tenth of the price (Ultima GTR for example).
Strider9655 Sorry if you think that we're obnoxious. I have to admit that I've encountered a bit of snobbery from some Caterham owners, but I have encountered just as much reverse snobbery from non-Caterham owners. Me? I'll happily chat to anyone about my Caterham and their Westie, MK, GBS, RobinHood etc. Regarding the cost. Yes, Caterhams are the most expensive. Can't change that. Mine is now worth around £3500 more than its cost new. Why? I don't know. The snobbish Caterham owner will be able to tell you, I'm sure. Just as surely, the non-Cat owner will be able to tell you why it shouldn't be so. I haven't experienced any great negativity from other road users, usually the opposite - lots of smiles and waves.
It's amazing to me that anyone who can afford two cars in the UK does NOT, via some sense of national pride, own one of these. Fabulous vehicle and priced reasonably in the UK. Not so much in the USA? :(
What a great car! I want one for 20 years now, unfortunately can not spend 15000 on a toy for me alone, when you have a young family, mortgages and so on. Just keep on looking you tube clips for now..... (but you can have bigger problems in your life)
Does anyone bother to Google ? Yes there are Lotus and Chaterhams in the U.S. already . Your better off to find a used registered one. If importing scares you.
I love the fact that you build it yourself
Probably my 1st choice for pure driving fun. I would prefer the old school "droop snoot" nose piece.
I also love the color of this particular 7/160
Love the 160s, but still expensive for me. Maybe wait for an older one. Beautiful Classic 💕

Surpuppa none for us. Love the Caterham and its affordability (for what it is). Otherwise you're paying a lot more for a Lotus.
