      I absolutely agree. I have type 4 hair and mainly do wash n go’s. If I don’t neglect my hair it is very manageable. I just use good products, strictly finger detangle, and shampoo once a week. No deep conditioning necessary either. I stick to my routine and never go more than a week and a half without doing my hair. It’s grown to a little past armpit length so I’ve just found what works for me.

    1. No long-term protective styling
    2. Too many Wash n' go
    3. Neglecting your low-manipulation hairstyles.
    4. too much flat-ironing
    5. not using wild growth hair oil or Jamaican black castor oil.

      akua baryeh putting your hair in trust isn’t doing hair, for me when I see wash and go it’s people usually wearing their curls out, no ponytails, trust, weave, or nothing. They just put product on their hair to define their curls, reduce the frizz, and get volume

    my mistakes were:
    - not trimming (trim when your ends are raggedy , it’ll save you headaches on wash day and when detangling!)
    - not finger detangling, i can live without a comb now if i want to because fingers are all i need honestly.
    - using oils instead of hair grease. grease is the best thing that happened to my hair. oils are good for treatments though
    - not doing my own hair. i let others rip and damage my hair for the sake of protective styles.
    - not leaving my hair alone enough, i now strictly protective style and the growth is amazing.
    - not washing my hair in twists, i now do and it’s helped me tremendously.

    The wash and go depends on how a person handles and treat their hair because Natural Reign and Kimberly Cherelle does wash and goes all the time and it's thriving. Wash and gos make you conscience of your hair more because it's out and you can visually see the health of your hair. Like it makes me moisturize twice a week to keep the curls popping. Some do protective styles and forget and abandon their hair and their hair starts to break because it's so dry. Also the first year I did nothing but wash and gos and my hair retained more length than doing twists or braid outs or just keeping them in🤷🏽‍♀️

    It took me 3 years before I ever did another wash n go which was in April of 2019 and i haven't done another wash n go since. I also stopped doing high puffs and micro mini twist because they also weren't beneficial to my growth. I now currently wash my hair bi-weekly, keep it in flat-twists and keep my hair off my shoulders making sure to refresh and re-moisturize my hair my scalp and hair in between wash days. If I'm wearing my hair out which is only occasionally now, i do a flat-twist out leaving the twists in for 2 to 3 days before unraveling and i still get those 2 weeks total. I no longer oil my scalp in between wash days either. I found that doing that makes my scalp more irritated and gives excessive build-up so i only oil my scalp on wash days and refresh it with my essential blend tea spray for my scalp and sprits rose water on my hair and seal it in with my diy growth oil.

    Over the quarantine I would put my hair in braids and spray my hair drown with rice water with peppermint oil (to get rid of the smell). I did this multiple times a day and after only a week I grew an inch of hair which is hard to believe. The braids gave low manipulation and I also oiled my scalp everyday. Make sure you wash your hair every week and braid it back up. It worked for me and hopefully it will work for others too. Just had to put Beaute Gang on this good stuff over here. 👸🏽👸🏾👸🏿

    I made 2 mistakes that destroyed my hair and I’m trying to fix it the best I can. I’m sharing in case it helps someone else. I have 3c/b hair medium to high porosity, not super protein sensitive but a bit. When I’d do an egg treatment my hair felt a little brittle immediately after but nothing major or beyond that day or few days.
    I did the aphogee protein treatment and it totally changed my hair making it far more brittle and actually changing the texture to be more course. Tons of my hair broke off about an inch from my roots and continues to break at that point.
    The second thing I did was take a growth supplement with biotin thinking it would make my hair thicker. My hair grew at first it didn’t get thicker but then after a a month I stopped taking it my hair started to shed a lot. Prior to I would only have to clean hair out if my brush despite brushing daily about once ever two weeks. I could brush my hair and have zero shedding.
    I suspect that if one has low iron and or low thyroid, which I suspect I have, it has negative affect when biotin is introduced.
    Per protein my hair did fine with natural strengthening like amla but aphogee really destroyed my hair. I used to be able to run my finger up my hair strand and it was smooth. Now I feel the follicle. I have more very wiry hairs and my hair is weaker. My hair was actually already very strong but I didn’t realize it.
    So if you fit my profile low iron, thyroid be careful with biotin and maybe stick with natural strengthening masks or do a good test strip first.

    It's almost 2 years since my big chop and I haven't trimmed AT ALL, make sure you trim ladies!! My key protective style is braids because I'm in ROTC and I don't have time to be slicking up my hair into a bun so box braids work very well. Tho my hair is in a protective style often, I plan to trim it this month because this coronacation gives me time to do a thorough wash day! **Just because your hair is in a protective style doesn't EXCLUDE YOU FROM A TRIM!! 😀😅
    (Btw I'm trimming this week after I take my braids out haha)
    Edit: I GOT A TRIM DONEEE, tbh I was so nervous, but hair is so healthy hopefully this retains the growth I could've had. Beginning of this year when I took my big chop pictures, the growth that I got from January-March looked the same, so I knew something was up. Not anymore tho!! Those dead ends are goneee 👏😂

    Isi I love that you are wearing your loose hair. You know what to do lol just stick to it. Wig season is coming back though ayyy 😜😜😜One thing that I am faithful to is trims and low manipulation styling but I like wearing my loose hair more often. Afros, twist outs, braidouts, I only blow dry my hair now when I get a trims i go in between 3 to 4 months. Our hair is so susceptible to breakage and split ends it needs it more often than not and when you get regular trims you don't loose length at least it doesn't seem that way for me. I cannot wait for these uploads

    I have type 4 hair and Wash and go's have the opposite effect on my hair; they help keep my hair tangle free and reduce my shedding/breakage sooo much (because my curls are held by the gel in its detangled, natural curly state). I have get crazy shedding when i do protective styles (braids, cornrows etc) or when I blowout/slick back my hair in ponytails

    Wash and goes grow my hair. The only thing I have to do is trim my hair regularly. I rarely do any other style and I am a type 4 natural. A Wash and go is a low manipulation protective style.

    • @christinem8799
      @christinem8799 4 года назад +1

      yeah i’m confused on this one. are people talking about the wash n gos where you use gels and custards to get more defined curls ? I can see how that can be a bit much. I also feel that wash n gos without doing any curl defining is the least manipulated hairstyle. Because it’s in its natural state. 🤔 i know your ends should be protected at but other than that i’m not sure what i’m missing 😅

    • @rhondadenis3469
      @rhondadenis3469 4 года назад +1

      Christine M I don’t have to work to get defined curls. Sometimes naturals do to much. As long as my hair is detangled it gets defined with little effort. I use Uncle Funky’s Daughter curly magic. And maybe a foam or a little cream on top as a topper to protect against the weather. My hair is thriving. Wash and goes are not the problem. Failure to clip ends is the main culprit. IMO

    yesterday i straightened my natural hair and it was 18 inches! ive always been natural and never chemically straightened my hair before. i cut off about 6 inches while straight cuz, i was just SICK of the maintenance that 18inch natural hair takes (it was perfectly healthy), today it is lil over than chin length curly and its SOOOOO CUTE and wash day is only 5-6 hours from start to dry!!! im so much happier. I used to watch these videos and pray for long hair. now that i had it i hated how long it took to do. so just a perspective on wanting to grow hair long. I FINALLY got it after all the hard work and chopped it off on whim. but im happy lol

    Yessss Beaute Gang since 🤟🏾😜. I ❤ the wild growth over the years of using it; I have gotten use to the smell. I have been using it for years, I also rotate between oils as well. But my scalp absorbs the wild growth oil to the point I do not need to add oil to my scalp every other day. The oil stays on my scalp till wash day. After wash & deep condition, I shirt dry, braid my hair up, and apply the oil and let it be.

    If you do get a long term style, make sure you keep it oiled up or greased up. It will get very dry if you don’t and break off. If you put too much, it can fall out too. Especially if you see it getting clogged up in spots.
