  • Are you ready for the best falafel you've ever tasted (whether fried or baked)? Falafel are delicious balls of chickpea and herb goodness that you find in Middle Eastern cooking.
    I've had my fair share of falafel on travels through Egypt, Israel and Jordan. I've had them in restaurants and on street corners (the best authentic street food). I've had them stuffed in gluten-free pita and on salads. And I've had them with slight variations and tweaks, though the recipe itself is fairly simple.
    But here's how you make the best falafel recipe - add tons of herbs (double the normal amount) and a small amount of green pepper. This makes for an addictive flavor that's "a little something extra" but not spicy. Just insanely delicious.
    Falafel are naturally vegan and vegetarian. You can then deep fry the falafel, pan fry or make baked falafel. It's up to you! Just don't forget to drizzle with my tahini sauce. ;) Enjoy!

    Here in Egypt, Falafel is the king on our breakfast table, I usually homemake it whether with "crushed beans" or "chickpeas", and personally prefer to eat it with Harissa, tahini or tomatoes salad garnished with garlic and parsley .
    But recently I developed a healthy recipe of Falafel, and I baked them in the over on a silicone mat without using oil.
    Try to sprinkle some sesame seeds on top of your Falafel before putting it in the oven, the aftertaste of the roasted sesame seed will make the dish sheer heaven.

    • @Downshiftology
      @Downshiftology  5 лет назад +46

      Really appreciate your words.
      You can also make Falafel cake, by adding eggs, Baking Soda, Baking powder to the batter of Falafel, then spread a layer of Falafel batter in an oven tray, after that put some chopped veggies; aka green, yellow, red pepper, onions, parsley, dill and spread some Feta.
      And finally another layer of Falafel batter on top of them and of course garnish it with sesame seeds, bake it in a hot oven and serve it with Tahini and garlicky tomatoes.

    This is the BEST falafel recipe. Thank you so much for taking the time to refine it. It's perfect. I did not have a hot pepper, but it was great without it. You are right that it is best eaten warm. I tried baking it and storing it in the fridge and it got too dry. Pan frying in a little avocado oil and eating it immediately was perfect. The batter stayed fresh for five days in the fridge, so that I could always make it when I ready to cook and eat immediately. I also found a chickpea flour tortilla made by SIETE that is perfect with this. The tortilla stays flexible after heating, and is gluten free. I ate the falafel in the chickpea tortilla with shredded carrots, lettuce, and mung bean sprouts. It was soooo good that I didn't even use a sauce. Thank you for doing the time consuming work to create this.

    • @Downshiftology

      It's a bit harder in a Vitamix or any blender as it blends the bottom first and more inconsistently. If you have a food processor, that's preferred.

    Thank you for sharing this! I’ve been waiting anxiously for this recipe from you!! I can’t wait to try these!. I would love to deep fry them, but I never know how to store the used oil for future frying & it’s so wasteful to throw all that oil away. Good quality oils are not cheap. Pan frying looks good but most likely I’ll use the oven baking method because I can get more done with less “babysitting” them & it’s probably the lowest in fat & therefore less calories, which means I can eat more falafels LOL!!!
