    Thank you for making these videos!! My husband and I volunteer with a veterans organization, guiding the veterans in training their own service dogs. I enjoy sharing your videos with them because you are able to cover a WIDE array of tasks that we haven't covered, with everyone that need a more detailed task for their specific needs. You are a GODSEND!!❤❤❤

    Yep, you're right. My dog gets 'Oh you're gorgeous!' and 'That's not a labrador' all the time...He's a grey/wolfhound, I think it's his wavy hair that 'invites' the touching, but I use those invasive pats as training for him, which is probably why my pockets are full of treat crumbs, to make it more beneficial for him to keep his attention on me.
    My dog is in training to be a PSD and to help me with some mobility issues. He doesn't alert to my panic attacks yet, but he does help me to recover and be able to speak without finding myself in an ambulance!

    THANK YOU! I NEED a S.A. for psychiatric as well as physical reasons but have very little income. I was getting panic attacks (normally easily controlled as soon as I'm aware of them) about training. But seeing you & Chloe gives me the confidence that, yes, I CAN do this! Good Grief, I taught/worked w/ preschoolers/early childhood ed. for over 26 yrs!

    Hey Caroline and Chloe!! My pitbull is my Service Dog in training and I am starting to task train him. I am having an issue with DPT as he is a 4 yr old previous pet trained service dog in training and was previously trained not to jump up on me plus he is a little chest heavy and I think he has an issue raising his front end, or at least more then other dogs that aren't chest heavy. I have also started some of the alerting and "comfort" (his head on my lap) but I am early in task training for sure. He also touches and pushes. Anyway, thank you for all of your awesome videos! I have watched them all! More videos, more videos!! Just wanted to say thank you for that massive information you have provided to me through these weeks of training my service dog!

    Caroline, I am so grateful to you for posting all these videos.
    I was contemplating starting my own YT channel about service dogs and training, especially since I've been training dogs for decades (yes, decades now), and I've helped countless people and dogs (including family members, total strangers, and other disabled vets like myself... just about anyone :3 ).
    Not to mention also educating the general public about the ADA concerning service dogs (there's so much more education needed)...
    Anyway, I came across a couple of your videos now, and instead of repeating, I'm just going to tell people to look at your videos here.
    They are great, and you're doing an awesome job! :)
    Again, thanks so much for doing essentially what I had planned to do, and now I don't have to (although I continue to educate people all the time).
    A huge thumbs-up for you!!!

    I know this sounds kind of weird to say, but im kind of glad that your service dog got distracted because I want to train my puppy to become a service dog and she gets extremely detracted kind of like Chloe and when you were saying how you had hope about her being able to not focus on that actually gave me hope that my pup could become a service dog. So thank you for the hope.

    I am glad you left in that little moment of her not being focused. It lets us know not all dogs are perfect. I hate when people call my dog or bends over to try and greet him. He loves people so it's hard for him to turn that down. Despite all the "hands off" or "do not distract" patches or gear people always distract :(

    I know it's really important not to distract a service dog, but even distracting a normal dog is rude. I know dogs are cute and a lot of people love them, but please, admire my pup silently and don't pet her.

      @carolineandchloe8182  7 лет назад +1

      Hi! I just wanted to clarify- did you just decide to train your dog a month ago? Or is your dog a fully trained service dog? The term service dog is typically only used for dogs who are public access trained, over a year old, and know multiple tasks, otherwise they are referred to as service dogs in training :) This is important just because certain states only allow fully trained service dogs to be allowed in public, and other states allow service dogs in training to have access to public stores, restaurants, etc with certain restrictions.

    • @kristinahall7520
      @kristinahall7520 7 лет назад

      She is in training and has been since Dec. My state allows SDiT allowed in public. I am just learning the laws and things like that. She knows multiple tasks. I am still learning how to train her but she is doing really good so far. Sorry never saw your message

    i think that you should employ corrections with the extreme distractions. A slip collar or martingale would really help with communication. The correction would really tell her -"i dont want you to do that, look at me. I am important and whatever you are looking at is not."

    I really like seeing you so happy when talking about the jobs that your dog does. I will be starting training with a psychiatric service dog soon, and I am really scared it won't make a difference but with everything that you are showing makes me feel a little better about the fact that this may help me... I also like that some of your videos show you are in college. I am also scared that it will be hard since I am in college, is there any advice to what you have had to go through that might help me?

    ada states the task must pertain to your disability so opening doors if you not in a wheel chair it doesnt have to do with your disability and any one can you access and say your not wheel chair bound. example for me i self harm so the task i taught my dog was to interupt self harm or the meds im on can make me pass out so my dog can be taught to dial 911 and open the door when emergency responders arrive.

    Okay so I have a few questions lol. First off, where did you get Chloe from? Was she in a special program before you got her or did you have her already before you started to train? Next, how much did everything cost, like for her and training. I'm sure I have many more questions, but as of right now this is all I can think of.

    I didn't know you could get service dogs for anxiety and depression. I thought you could only get emotional support animals.

    • @MossyMirror
      @MossyMirror 8 лет назад +4

      You can depending on how bad it is, since there are cures for anxiety/depression a service dog would not be best choice in some situations. If you have severe symptoms where it prevents you to be in public because you get panic attacks or you do self harm then there are some advantages. Having multiple disabilities such as PTSD can allow you to own one because it is permanent disability. There more about it online so research but it's good to educate yourself!

    • @carolineandchloe8182
      @carolineandchloe8182  7 лет назад +12

      You can get emotional support animals! However, they are NOT allowed in public. Psychiatric service dogs are for people with mental illnesses, but the difference is that they are specifically task trained- meaning they perform tasks to help someone with a mental illness. They are also public access trained and are not fearful, reactive, or unstable. Emotional support animals can be cats, dogs, geckos, whatever animal you want! But they also can only stay in your home or fly with you, and you need a doctor's note for this.
      Summary:
      ESA's = comfort animals, untrained, can be any animal, can ONLY stay at home or travel on planes, need doctor's note
      SD's = task trained over the course of 2 years, must be extremely well trained, can only be dogs or miniature horses, have full public access (see ADA for exceptions)

    • @matslund6560
      @matslund6560 7 лет назад +1

      Caroline and Chloe hahaha never new ponies could be service animals. i got adhd and i can get very strict when it come to certain stuff, like if i think it should be a certain way, it bothers me if its not, but nowadays for the most part it is keeping focus on what i am doing when theres many distractions like outside. even just being with my dog helps me, but sometimes i forget and he does something he shouldnt and i correct him and afterwards i realize i was doing wrong even though he got some stuff to train on still. how can you train a dog to be helping you through these kind of mental obstacles? btw never say leave it, instead teach sit and down/lay down etc. as implied stay

    Thanks for the video :) Reading the comments from people with psd's is nice since i've been seriously considering getting one myself. Really want to get off my medication and all the side effects i have to deal with, but don't want to relapse because before I took meds I was basically a shaking crying mess hiding in public bathrooms anytime i left the house for a year. And yet I'm STILL nervous to request a PSD from my psych bc I've always had this fear that my anxiety is not bad enough (or as bad as it could be) to warrant a service dog (even though my anxiety literally debilitated me and left me practically bedridden for a year ugh). Seeing videos and comments of other people's psd's is really helpful though :) But since my anxiety still makes me doubtful, would anyone else recommend a service dog to me?

    I have a question I hope you can answer or give advice in the least. I plan to get a psychiatric service CAT. I know psychiatric service animals are different from service animals meant to help those who are disabled, but do psychiatric service animals get the same rights as a disabled person's service animal? What I mean by this is, are they allowed in public places? (ADA only states that dogs are only service animals, however, have been proven wrong with miniature horses and, occasionally, cats who are just as legal and qualified as dogs).
    Cats are not very common to be service animals, but I'm not the best with dogs and grew up with cats and am most comfortable with them. I have severe anxiety on a regular basis, combined with a severe depression that can come due to things that either trigger it to come, or can come out of nowhere and is extremely dangerous for my own well being. My doctors, therapists, counselors, and even my own professors in school have all recommended I get an emotional support animal, but I heard how little public access they have. According to the people I consulted with, (meaning, my doctors, etc.) I'm going to need more than just an ESA to allow myself safety wherever I go.
    I know certain breeds of cats are more suited for this training than others. But how does an animal become a certified psychiatric service animal? I already know training is involved. Is personal training enough, or is expensive training needed from other professionals? Where would I get the certificate?
    (I'm also EXTREMELY unsupportive of people who fake service animals and want an excuse to take their pet everywhere they go).

      Under ADA regulations, the only permissible service animals are dogs and I believe miniature horses. Even if you train your cat for alerts, it wouldn't be protected under the ADA. The most it could be considered legally is an ESA, unfortunately.

    Does it actually cost money to do this stuff? I'm pretty new to all of this and I also want to do something like this and hopefully I will, but I'm very worried for myself which might not be the best thing, also where do I have to go if I do need a recommendation? Sorry about all the questions, but could you take a fully trained service dog to school?

    Hi! I have bipolar disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. I adopted my dog on Saturday and I will like to start the process of training her as my psychiatric service dog. I have several questions and I'll be super grateful if you can help me. Do I need to legally/formally register her somewhere? When I can put her the vest? that is...from which moment I am able to enjoy the benefits of bringing her with me? when she is fully trained? How did you started the learning process? Can you recomend a guide or a book? Thank you very much

    I am looking at getting a psychiatric service dog, upon medical advice. What exactly are the dog's actions supposed to accomplish in a panic attack, or depressive behavior, such as scratching, or rocking?

    • @carolineandchloe8182
      @carolineandchloe8182  8 лет назад

      Mostly interrupting. Stopping behavior by licking, pawing, or nuzzling so that you can focus and get better!

    Hi Caroline! You have inspired me to start training my rescued dog as a service dog. I have a few psychiatric disabilities. I'm pretty overwhelmed with beginning! But he is picking up on the basics so I'm just staying persistent and hopeful. How long did it take you to train the basics and then move on to the specific tasks and alerts? Also, my dog needs practice in public places. If he is in training am I allowed to bring him in public places? Or does he already have to be really well behaved? Thanks for the advice!

      She is an American Staffordshire Terrier mix! We are assuming she is crossed with an Australian Cattle Dog, but she is a mix and I haven't had any genetic testing done so I'm not 100% sure. Thank you, I think she's pretty cute myself :)

    • @carolineandchloe8182
      @carolineandchloe8182  7 лет назад

      We used food lures! You start super small, asking for focus in a very calm, quiet home environment, and use a piece of high value treat to show them where to look. You keep working up and up to higher distraction areas!

I found a training center only a couple hours away called medical mutts but the days are 14,000 we are trying to do fundraising for my daughter now. It's a lot of money but we will see what happens.

    do you know of any legitimate sites that I can go to register ?

    • @carolineandchloe8182
      @carolineandchloe8182  7 лет назад +1

      There is NO legal registration- that is a scam that has been made to earn money for nothing. The ADA requires no registration, and showing a registration paper (even if you paid $300 for it) doesn't mean you're allowed to take your dog in public. You first need to be legally disabled, and be willing to defend that in a court of law. Then you need to either contact a service dog training program or seek to train your dog yourself- if you choose to owner train (I did!) then you'll need to work with a professional trainer if you don't have detailed service dog training experience.

      Tea Cup Galaxy Art she is a service dog

    • @carolineandchloe8182
      @carolineandchloe8182  7 лет назад

      Yes, she is a psychiatric service dog, which is a type of service dog. Emotional support animals are purely for comfort and don't perform tasks, whereas service animals (including psychiatric service dogs) have specific tasks that they perform to keep their handlers safe.
