Love the DK-17M + DK-19 combo...especially when shooting manual focus lenses. I also took the rubber cup off of the original eyepiece, reversed it, and put it on the backside of the combo as a gasket of sorts (using a toothpick to push the cup below the threading so it’ll screw back in all the way). That last sentence reads like camera smut lol, but it seals up the eyepiece against the body nicely.
Default flat glass one stubbornly falls off the camera. I've lost 3 already...I forget to open the eyepiece after shooting long exposures. But this magnifying one is great because it gets stuck and it wont fall off yay! I got it earlier also based on your recommendation. Thanks for that ken :) The fine threads are a pain, they should make it come on and off easier for switching between the DR-5 angle finder and regular eyepiece.
There should be a support group for us left eye dominant ones -.haha. The eyepiece does help stop lcd greasy screen syndrome mind you and that squidged against the back of camera position. Left eye dominant never messed with my photography - just with shooting rifles. I have magnifying eyepieces on all my cameras and it it really helps.
In macro still life, I would be in live mode , zoomed in, and focusing; typically manually focusing, quickly letting go, and taken shot via cable release. Anything wrong with this method?
I use it on my d700. but it's a pain to get on and off due to the thread mount design. And worse is that it actually uses an additional adapter ring which sometimes will get stuck on the camera and you have to remove it with a supplied tool. Other than that annoying problem .... it's great! And essential for shooting low. To me this is one of the major downsides of a DSLR vs P&S. With a P&S much more interesting angles are possible and more importantly practical. Maybe a tilting screen DSLR would be a good idea. Then you can both shoot at eye level and near instantly switch to shooting low by going to Live View. Maybe there is some hybrid finder out there that can be used for both things. Anyone know something like that exists?
Got one when you mentioned it in a previous video, the few mm it sticks out makes a big difference. Also left eye dominant.......can we be friends now 😂
I'm left eye dominant too, I feel sorry for ppl who are left side limp.. I wear glasses, view finder ok, put off glasses for display.. ughhh. Contacts, Ok for view finder, readers for display. Now I got these trifocals, and It's like looking through spun glass. I got back up glasses for the myopic condition. Then display mode time, glasses go up, and it looks like I'm sniffing my camera's.. well you know..
I wish these were still available. Prices are sky high second hand over here. Over 100 bucks.
I bought one but did not secure it tight enough, i lost it but now replaced. Love it.
I love the Dk-17M's. I have one on my D2x and D3s... It helps me when manual focusing on birds. It is a GREAT accessory.

NIKON NEPS1 for peeps using the Nikon D610/750.. it's an adapter that allows the DK-17M/DK-19 to be used on these cameras.. just a little fyi..

Nothing wrong, it's just kind of clunky and heats up the sensor
Do you need the DK19 with it if you wear glasses?
Hello, Thank You for review. Can you please tell how this (if any) changes eye relief? I would like to make eye relief longer ... Thanks!
Do you have any DK-17m that you know are sitting in a store somewhere. Haven’t found an alternative and have a new d850 dying for it. Thanks
i have one yes
What do you think of the right angle viewer so you can look down into it when shooting low?

Would you sell me one of those? I can’t seem to find any below 100 euros

p.s. this is why hand straps come in handy for a gal who is "thin boned"..
I have no problem with the stock eye piece.
but but but but
this could work!
