I was thinking the other day how funny it is that 40 years ago, we were fighting the gear to keep it in tune and under control, and now here we are fighting to get that wild unpredictability back! I hope I'll be able to get my hands on the HS Deluxe this year. *crosses fingers*
With new firmware comes staggering new possibilities. ASM’s latest 2.0 update to their acclaimed Hydrasynth makes the impossible a reality! What would you do with these groundbreaking tools? Sound off in the comments below and check out the latest synth gear here 👉sweetwater.sjv.io/LatestGear
I dug a long time for a HW synth to buy because I really don't need one, have enough SW ones, but the Hydrasynth Explorer really got me. It's a steal for the money.
I can hardly wait until I can update my Deluxe to 2.0. The Hydrasynth aa it is with the my factory shipped firmware is amazing. Only feature I wish for but may not get approval is the voice allocation mode old school Sequential Prophet 5 and Jupiter 8 where playing the same note repeatedly will play the same voice. You can select this option on the Novation Summit and Rev 4 P5 and P10. It would be an awesome feature for a future Hydrasynth update.
If I want to see a good synth review, I wait for Daniel to do it. What would be fantastic in a future update would be to give those per voice offsets an optional range per voice and/or as a group.
You're great Daniel, but you got so excited that you didn't provide menu paths (or even a hint of where to look) for many of these wonderful new features. That would have helped me find them more easily. (still looking for some!). Thanks as always.
Thanks Daniel! Awesome demonstration and this has now put the HS back on my wish list! Nice Styx reference. I know OBX8 is a different class but wondering how close this can get to an Oberheim sound, at least on the VCO side. I am very excited about this possibility now.
It has a lot of oscillators types and obx is amoung them there is a lot of ability in there to create insane fat as sounds with . Just go to a store and spend plenty of time digging into some sounds it has the widest range I've heard in 50 years yes I was around in the 70s had real analog stuff. Choose a sound hit the voice button and go down in pages and see the ability to do analog type stuff stereo spread is amazing for example the morph knob too.
Arp at 6 oct., random, like what I did in the 80's with a step sequencer ( input on the keyboard randomly ). Order notes played is also similar to a sequencer.
Hi Neil. Loved the Nord Mod! I used their monophonic Nord Modular app to teach synthesis when I was an Associate Professor at Berklee. But it was never updated to work above Mac OS9. I miss it, it was the perfect teaching tool. -_Daniel_
Awesome! I've never had a hardware synth and i'm stuck between getting a hydrasynth or sequential take 5. So many great videos on both synths. Great job!
The per-voice mod is genius. It's like the vintage knob on the new Prophet 5 and other new Sequential stuff. Apply it to Pitch/Filter/Envelopes and you're super close to real analog variation. I just tied this per voice mod to the PFE and I can emulate my OB-Xa and my old rev 3 Prophet 5. Helps make digital sound more organic.
No, this is far deeper. And there is already the analogFL parameter in hydrasynth (since 1.0) that does per voice offsets and even randomization of multiple parameters. This however gives you far deeper per voice control.
@@Fluxwithit Agree there is so mucn more than can be done. The Vintage knob is a prest mod matrix. This is more flexible as it's a mod source than can be routed to any parameter in the mod matrix!
Agreed, as an ex-owner of the Hydra I can't deny that this synths has a zillion possibilities. But at the end, it's sound lacks 'something' that makes it sound thin. And that is a very often heard argument and the reason so many people sell their Hydra after a while...
Very very nice!!! Does this come in a module as well?? I guess I could stop being lazy and click the link and find out for my self!!! Haha!!! I can see that they are putting a tighter grip on your time now to 15 minutes instead of you usual 30-45 minutes!!! Haha!! Great job though!!
I bought a Yamaha MODX6 a year ago but it's utterly unintuitive to me and there are so many different functions it's ridiculous and I'm considering a Hydra as well as it's mainly for Vangelis' CS80 kinds of Bladerunnerish fading spacey sounds so the ribbon is a major selling point and the Polytouch keybed.
Hi SupraSmart68. I own both for two different reasons. The MODX series is great when you need a lightweight, budget-friendly way of playing lots of built-in and user samples. But the Hydrasynths are phenomenal when you want to build your own synth sounds with abundant ways of expressing yourself. -_Daniel_
@@sweetwater Hi Daniel and thanks for your input. How do you think the Hydrasynth Deluxe stacks up against the Arcturia MatrixBrute, given the 'Polytouch' (TM?) on the Hydra being so expressive?? The MatrixBrute looks way more intuitive and up front to me like the Behringer DM12 with all the individual controls at hand. Space permitting, I'll get them all I think as only I can make that decision. If there's one thing I've learnt in life, it's that I regret not doing things way more than doing anything wrong or stupid, as that's how we learn, like not taking all my crypto' profits two years ago!
Hi strogon42. True, but as someone who has been tweaking Kurzweil's FUNs since 1991, I can assure you that they couldn't assign a unique Voice Offset for each of the Kurzweil's 24/48/128 voices. -_Daniel_
Don't play keys but I get this. I can see some elaborate sounds coming out of this. Looks like it's still a b.tch to program though? Or is there a computer app interface? Best Regards and Best Wishes!
It's really easy to programme - you just press the thing you want to edit and it comes up on the knobs on the right. If anything a computer app would be slower (although it could obviously display all the settings at once).
depends on what that even means. "less digital" it will always be digital. so what does that even mean. digital also doesn't have just one sound. digital can be a wide range of sounds. this is one of those "lets me move the goal posts when someone responds" comments that doesn't really make sense.
He plays the LFO Step Advance and never once shows you how to do it! 🤦♂️ What is the mod matrix setup for that? Voice settings? LFO 1 settings? LFO Step Edit settings? What patch were you using to play that Styx - Too Much Time On My Hands part??
I see Daniel Fisher and immediately hit the like button before the video starts. Give this man a raise!
Ditto
Agreed
Yeah man! Seriously! In fact, when I found out about the model D Immediately bought it later that week
Yep, he is an absolute synth guru. I like how he presents his lessons straight forward, without complicating to get a clear understanding.
They took my favorite synth and made it even better. The Hydrasynth is by far the best synth for sound design that I have ever used.

At least now we can decide EXACTLY how much control and tuning to release to the vagaries of the machine. 🙂
The peggi being controlled by a key is an absolute gamechanger
Incredible update. ASM is changing the game.
These are some great updates! Really happy about the 8 banks
All these updates are fantastic.
Still can't help but hope for the ability to add your own wavetables one day!

Can you please make a full tutorial on how to use a bass or guitar using the minifreak?
OMG! Can't wait to put this new firmware update into my Hydrasynth Deluxe and Hydrasynth!
These overhead zoom-in and zoom-outs help so much, thanks!
Great vid, Daniel!! I knew I made a good investment when I bought this synth, but man has it paid off even more than I thought!
Such a nice update, every other synth maker should pay attention to all the many things that ASM gets right.
This is amazing! I just bought mine today from Sweetwater. Love it!
Thank you Daniel! I get inspired by your demo of the *Hydrasynth* too!

Daniel you are a saint. Would have never gotten into synths if it weren't for these videos. Thank you.
Round robin is one of my favorite features of the Matriarch, now on my hydrasynth as well, I'm happy 😊
PLEASE DANIEL PLEASE SWEETWATER, let’s make a longer video, a deep dive with Daniel on this new 2.0 firmware…… 🙏
This synth is absolutely incredible, I wish I’d got the deluxe instead of the 8 voice
Love your enthusiasm Daniel 👍
The Glissando and fine mod wheel amount are my two favorites.

Great demo!
I wish I had a Deluxe. Wait. I have one. 😎 Thanks for all your vids Daniël. Very helpful and interesting.
I’ve been doing this on the Nord Modular G2 for a long time and it’s such a powerful technique- will definitely be picking up a Hydrasynth now
