How the fuck are domestic cups ruining football footballers get paid around 100 grand a week and you're telling me that they can't play two games in a week like for fuck sake players like carrick have an excuse because he is 35 and it's difficult but cups are always exciting.
The problem is that domestic cups no longer have the value they used to have. Remember when the Cup Winners Cup was a thing? It was a competition for domestic cup winners. The UEFA CWC died because of one thing - the expansion of the so called "Champions" League for non-champions. By 1999 when it was the last CWC tournament the big nations have sent as many as 4 teams and UCL and in CWC were teams that were runners-up in their domestic cup. This devalued domestic cup competitions since many teams who win it would later qualify for UCL anyway. Commercialiazation of the UCL to a Rich Clubs League destroyed the Cup Winners Cup and the domestic cup competitions with it
"Football is a global sport, and for too long the attention of the world's spectators has been focused on Western Europe" - Number 8: China takes away our players!
Maybe they should guarantee these types of fixtures instead of games like Stoke vs West Brom in the 4th round. The lowest positioned clubs should be guaranteed a home tie vs the higher positioned clubs up until at least the quarter finals.
This video symbolises a lot of what is wrong with football today. The 3pm blackout helps to protect attendances for lower league clubs. It's ok for Premier League clubs to lure players away from other leagues by offering vast amounts of money, but if China does the same that's apparently wrong? The domestic cups are shit, tell that to fans of Wigan and Swansea? Believe it or not, the entire sport doesn't have to revolve around the needs of the top six in the Premier League. Get out of your armchair and support your local team and you might find out why.
James Martin Honestly the premier league was a mistake, a beginning of the end for non-globalized soccer (U.S.) I’ve stopped following the premier league, realizing I was part of the problem, since I have no local ties or anything even close
The 3pm blackout is a good thing for real fans and helps attendances at lower league clubs. The domestic cups are also exciting for lower league fans. The insinuation that Depay, Sterling or Martial are given racist treatment from the press is nonsense.
Russia 2018 is okay because at least Russia is good at football and has history of football. Qatar 2022 pisses me off cos Qatar sucks and has no football culture, plus they bribed the vote, just because they can't make it to the WC unless being host.
Gerard McWilliam that's how I feel about all of them and why I think it's so immature for people to say they want whoever gone on the first episode. They all are probably nervous and aren't the best when they start but you have to give them a chance to improve and I think almost all of them have
Can't believe ur slagging off the cups! Jesus- yeah they might not mean jack shit to the so called' big time Charlie's' but to anyone outside the PL they're a very big deal. I don't normally comment and I Usually love the videos but that point- in my opinion is way off the mark. It just demonstrates the limited view, many football yt channels have only covering the matters that effect the big teams. POOR SHOW 👎🏻
Hey Euro Football Daily guys, can you do a video on the Top 10 Most Lopsided (or weird) Transfer Deals of All Time? Say for example Inter Milan and Barcelona swapping Ibrahimovic and Eto'o + $30m (or some amount like that). Ibra failed miserably at Barca while Eto'o went on to win a second consecutive treble with Inter in 2010. Can you guys please do it?
Bryan the chelsea fan every time you comment I despise you,but not this time.atleast Arsenal and Chelsea fans can agree on one thing,Tottenham is shit 😂😂
I also thought like you until I watched this video and heard russia hate those scum, men who like men and qatar banned those scum men who like men. now I think it will be a great world cup in countries who like real men. just look around the 4 top leagues how many of those scum are there ans 0, why FOOTBALL IS A MAN'S SPORT FOR REAL MEN
No, cups like the FA Cup need to stay, because every once in a while you see premiership sides getting humbled by teams from lower leagues. You need those!
Better idea for a 48-team World Cup: The qualifying stages have to be arranged in such a way that all 48 teams have qualified by the summer before the World Cup takes place. Then, shift the international breaks during the first half of the season in such a way that there are essentially 2 to 3 consecutive weeks of international football in September, October or November (though February or March would also be an option). During this period, the 32 lowest-ranked qualified teams on the FIFA Rankings battle it out on neutral soil in 8 groups of 4 teams, with the top 2 of each group joining the 16 highest-ranked qualified teams at the summer World Cup, which will take place with the usual format. If you really want to improve the standards of football in smaller countries, you could even host a 'small World Cup' involving the 16 teams who were knocked out of the 'first group stage round' battling it out for big amounts of prize money and a consolation trophy. You don't HAVE to ruin the tournament to increase the standards of world football. Heck, you could even appoint 3 different host nations for all 3 stages of the tournament.
Your final point is just not true in the PL: last season Chelsea won it & Spurs, City & Liverpool finished in the CL places while United won the Europa League & Arsenal the FA cup (& Leicester got the furthest in the Champions League). It was very competitive & not the same old at all.
Ferguson didn't pull United out of the FA Cup. The FA forced United to go to the Club World Championship to boost their chances of hosting the World Cup in 2006.
Avid premier league fan The Dalai Lama was particularly aggrieved by oscar's transfer to China causing him to proclaim that 'this is an outrage, the worst thing China has ever done!'
I agree with everything except the domestic cup competition. They give us stories like Sutton, Lincoln City, Bradford City, etc. I think those feel-good stories maintain the beauty of the sport for me.
I'm not a fan of the 48-team World Cup either, but it still takes the same amount of games to win as the 32 team World Cup so that's not a reason to reject it
A suggestion: Soften the blow with a reference to Leicester City who won the premier league by 10 points last season. The greatest sporting achievement of all time.
Sorry to be a bit pedantic here but West Germany actually beat Austria 1-0 in 1982, although your sentiment was accurate. Furthermore, I believe that when the 48-team WC rolls in, the group stage will eliminate 16 teams not 12 and although the number of matches throughout the tournament will increase, no one team will play more than 7 matches in total, which is how things currently are. Again though, I agree with your overall points - the idea is an absolute farce!
Wages aren't ruining football, when u would earn for example €1000 per month (normal job) but u got a chance for a job where you would earn €2500, but I don't really job, which would you take?
Yeah i think Champions league 'seeding' has made the competition so boring. I mean why the fuck do the best teams in the world need protecting? The group stage should be completely open imo. Fed up of the top teams being pretty much babysat through the group stages and last 16, while the smaller teams are punished.
That also means some dickhead teams and such might not want 1st place in the group as much then. Since they'd then get an easier match up if they just purposfully got 2nd. I feel it should be completely random. Same with how the groups are put together. I feel it's completely unfair some of the smaller european countries who only get early prelim matches to get into the Champions League in the first place go through all those extra matches just to make it to the group stage and then just stuck at the bottom of the groups basically as fodder to make it easier for the bigger teams to go through.
If you want people to attend matches, you need to make it more affordable to attend. You shouldn't ban all televised football between 3 and 5. Look at Germany, you can go to see Bayern vs Dortmund for about 20 euros.
can make a case for the 3pm black out. if you take Italy as a reference point, the average attendance in serie A is far below that of the premier league, bundesliga and liga nos in Portugal. some experts such as Andy brassell and James horncastle claim this is in part due to every serie A game being available on TV. there are other factors like the possible dwindling standard of football and the ticket prices, however it is a factor.
The 3pm blackout is true people wouldn't go as much the bundesliga has cheaper tickets which is why the attendance is higher. Also the FA cup is an important trophy still.
This video showed a photo of Malaysia's national team when talking about the 48 team World Cup. Are you guys kidding me? There's a higher possibility of Chinese clubs buying Messi and Ronaldo than Malaysia qualifying for the World Cup.
Cups are piss because the focus is on getting Top 4 for a Champions League place. I think that the cup winners should get a champions league place rather than going to the 3rd or 4th team.
Russia ruins everything, not just football. Russia ruined the most underrated football league in the world, the UPL (Ukrainian Premier League),with clubs like Metalist,Dnipro, Shakhtar, Dynamo the league was in my opinion better than the Portuguese and French leagues (if you remove PSG). Now Metalist is gone and Dnipro is looking at a similar fate. Shakhtar and Dynamo are trying as hard as they can to reduce spending without sacrificing the results, however Rinat Akhmetov's (Shakhtar owner) money comes from the Donbass region, and that can't be good for his finances.
BrandosComfort a list of everything else that Russia ruins would be the size of the Lord of the Rings books. Plus talking about football seems appropriate since this channel is called FOOTBALL Daily.
tabloids easily help ruin the game too much heat on players who "under perform" and anyone who shows any kind of skill is now the next ronaldo or messi which is crazy in a world where there are many world class players ronaldo and messi sit way up on top all by themselves and this kind of branding leads to ridiculous price tags. awesome video fellas
They should scrap qualification and get 216 or 208 out of 211 teams straight in the world cup with a straight knock out tournament to give maximum countries a chance to win.
@#10: Something like that used to exist in America's NFL. It ended when President Nixon was angry because he couldn't watch the Redskins' game at the White House.
Get rid of the FA Cup? God no! I don't know how, maybe by giving the winner the 4th champions league spot, but it needs revitalising not killing. Third round day for me is one of them great days of the footballing calendar, just after Christmas when everything is a bit crap in general there's suddenly the potential spectacle of a David v Goliath moment occurring. It'll be 20 years this May since Robbie Di Matteo crashed home after 43 seconds to give Chelsea their first trophy in 26 years and it still remains one of my favourite memories ever. I was ever proud when United spanked us 4-0 in 94 because it was just good to be there..... That was when the Cup Final was an all day event. God bless it
Groundhog Day? Leicester have just won the League, when's that happened before? There's not been a repeat Champions League winner in 26 years? A big thing to keep it interesting is a 'Domestic Cup' which is apparently ruining football!
Disliked when you said the cups don't matter the FA cup is the most historic and prestigious cup in the world and people don't realise how much it's done for clubs in the past before money, clubs were built on FA cup success
Oscar will receive his medal because he has played over 5 games. Just like how schurrle won his medal despite moving to germany. General knowledge, EFD.
Roman's empire is not just tiny compared to Red Bull's. Its tiny compared to City's as well, more specifically that of City Football Group. I wouldn't be surprised if City's was bigger as a football conglomerate. RB Leipzig is their biggest club but German teams don't rake in anywhere near as much in TV money. Although MLS probably doesn't bring in much.
"Football is all the same now! All the same clubs winning the same things" - same people who immediately cry incessantly about an underdog team winning "they were just lucky, I mean, look at their team" (heard this already in this channel concerning Porto's UCL win)... hypocrisy much?

Groundhog Day? Leicester have just won the League, when's that happened before? There's not been a repeat Champions League winner in 26 years? A big thing to keep it interesting is a 'Domestic Cup' which is apparently ruining football!
Disliked when you said the cups don't matter
the FA cup is the most historic and prestigious cup in the world and people don't realise how much it's done for clubs in the past
before money, clubs were built on FA cup success
Two years later, it's down to one thing : VAR
Why are you saying that casuals are ruining football when it's them that gives a game a good atmosphere
Oscar will receive his medal because he has played over 5 games. Just like how schurrle won his medal despite moving to germany. General knowledge, EFD.
Can someone counting tell me how many times he has put his hands together? I would like to report a world record
Austria and Germany did not draw .Germany had to win by 1-0 in order for both Germany and Austria to qualify. But they did not draw
"Football is all the same now! All the same clubs winning the same things" - same people who immediately cry incessantly about an underdog team winning "they were just lucky, I mean, look at their team" (heard this already in this channel concerning Porto's UCL win)... hypocrisy much?
