Great job Caitlin. The WNBA better wake up and see the marketing genius of her, Angel Reese and JuJu Watkins for the future. To be fair to Pete, he only played 3 years and there was no 3 point shot.
She’s really killing it, not hating honestly, but if I was her I would not feel like I actually beat the record. He played only 3 years, and did not have a 3 pointer. How far would she be without the 3 pointer lol. Dude would have been averaging I think like 60 points if he did have one, and that’s just going off of the shots he took, obviously if he had a 3 pointer he would have been shooting further out way more = more points. Again if I was her I would come out and say I haven’t beaten the all time scoring record, but each their own.
Farce when comparing this to Maravich..... Don't even mention this NCAA "record" in the same breath as Pistol Pete. Pistol played without a 3 point line and was not allowed to play varsity basketball as a freshman due to an imbecilic NCAA rule. Pete scored 3667 in 83 games. With a additional year and a 3pt line, Maravich would have scored 6000+ points, to say nothing of the no shot clock rule.
So many thoughts: 1. Caitlin Clark is an amazing women's player and has brought a lot of interest to the women's game. For that, she is to be congratulated. 2. Comparing her career scoring to someone in the men's game is absurd. The records should be separate between men's and women's basketball. 3. When considering Maravich's scoring record, it should be noted that the 3-point line did not exist in that era and freshmen were not eligible to play varsity, so he accomplished his record in only 3 seasons. 4. That technical foul call was garbage, and Clark showed poor sportsmanship to exaggerate the contract and try to sell the call.
First of all lol at all the insecure little men in the comments trying to find complex mathematical ways to argue that Caitlin's now larger number of points is still somehow not larger than a smaller number of points. Who tf cares if there was no 3 point line or he only played 3 years? The fact is in her career she scored more points than in within the rules and regulations of the game and in his career he scored less within the rules that were established at the time. Women's basketball was not even acknowledged as a sport at the time that Pete played so that shows you how much changes over time. Records are made to be broken. Get over it.
Great accomplishment! But to honestly say she broke Maravich's record is false. Unless an asterisk is added. Maravich shot only two pointers without a shot clock.
Maravich, played before the 3-point line was implemented in college basketball. Maravich's career was before freshman eligibility in college sports, so he was limited to 83 games over his three seasons.
Who's to say Maravich would have been an effective 3 pt shooter. As good as he was, shooting 3s is not an automatic. Lot of great players were not that good beyond the arc.
@@brianclevenger5521freshman where ineligible for varsity basketball thus the lost 30 games at 44point a game average Think about that. No 3 pointers either.

It’s all because Caitlin Clark is Caitlin Clark, so she flops and then points to the officials without them, seeing it, it’s a technical. She should be on Broadway right now Not, playing basketball.
So if you want to get serious in terms of stats and records, she did pass 'Pistol Pete', but she still needs to beat Pearl Moore & the fact that her name hasn't been brought up yet just surprised the hell outta me! She managed to score over 4000 points during her 4 years, but they refuse to talk about that for some odd reason.
So is total points in basketball the only combined category the ncaa has for men & women because if they're going to do it for that they have to do it for every stat for every sport played by men and women.
She broke the Women's scoring record... Men and women's are not even in the same category. She might not get a shot off if she played against the men's teams.
@@Jim26Dare you serious? You think Pete shot at the same range? No! He took infinitely more high percentage shots. The game is different. It’s played different. The record has changed. Accept it. 😊

@@indykegof course it would have been. But the core of his shots were 12-20 feet. Not 24-28 like Clark does. Each foot closer is a higher percentage shot. The game was played differently. Clark would have played it differently too, if those were the rules today. Get real

I really enjoy Caitlin....but to set the record on a flop where she initiated contact.....thats rather lame. She deserves the shame on this one. (Shes still great tho)
As a University of Iowa grad, I am very proud. But the Hawkeyes have to learn how to better finish with the win for all the marbles during great seasons!! 🖤💛
The hardest thing to do in college sports is to win a National Championship
why did they not show the final shot???
Only one other person came close to Pete in over 40 years.. let’s just be happy someone special has come along to give us this and other debates.
WNBA. Should be so excited to have her !
id rather talk about clark then listen to Trumps BS anyday
So many thoughts:
Congratulations!
She actually shoots at 2:30
First of all lol at all the insecure little men in the comments trying to find complex mathematical ways to argue that Caitlin's now larger number of points is still somehow not larger than a smaller number of points. Get over it.
spoken like a true pansy a s liberal
Caitlin clark is the goat of women's basketball, she will save the WNBA
Her and juju will be good for wnba
Nothing can save the wnba
10 Caitlins can't save the WNBA... It's just not an exciting product. In fact, womens college basketball is probably more exciting.
No she won't. Women's college basketball have a personal connect with there fans and their town/city. Fans don't feel connected to the WNBA.
Great accomplishment! But to honestly say she broke Maravich's record is false. Unless an asterisk is added. Maravich shot only two pointers without a shot clock.
Maybe, but she could have another year of eligibility if she chose...
@@brianclevenger5521freshman where ineligible for varsity basketball thus the lost 30 games at 44point a game average
Think about that. No 3 pointers either.
Ok
Pete Maravich only played 3 years (freshman were barred from playing) and didn’t have a 3-point shot opportunity. He averaged 44 points a game. Kaitlyn averaged 32. Apples & oranges 🤷🏻♂️
it's Caitlin and he shot 40 a game to her 20. If she shot 40 times a game she would average 66 a game.
Mabe she should stay another year and all these crybabies will fill the l ages up with tears😢😢😢. Nothing worse than a crybaby 🖕🖕🖕
Clark still has a ways to go because Maravich put the ball in the bucket about 500 more times than Clark has.

Yeah, that's great. But just wondering...7 technical free throws for Iowa? How do they give 4 free throws at one time? That's nuts.
There was a shooting foul and then a technical foul. It was 2 free throws for each
she’s a legend already
Love all the "experts" bringing up the freshman rule and lack of 3 point during Maravich's career like they're breaking a big story for the first time. They always fail to mention segregation and having dad for coach that didn't care about winning as long as his boy got his.
Amazing and congratulations.
Imagine if Pete woulda had the 3 pt shot available tho
But he didn't .... Get over it!! The record has been broken 💔

It’s all because Caitlin Clark is Caitlin Clark, so she flops and then points to the officials without them, seeing it, it’s a technical. She should be on Broadway right now Not, playing basketball.
goooo cotie
So if you want to get serious in terms of stats and records, she did pass 'Pistol Pete', but she still needs to beat Pearl Moore & the fact that her name hasn't been brought up yet just surprised the hell outta me! She managed to score over 4000 points during her 4 years, but they refuse to talk about that for some odd reason.
That's because she played in the lower division of AIAW ... It's the equivelant of DIII.
Let’s fckking go CAITLINNNNN
So is total points in basketball the only combined category the ncaa has for men & women because if they're going to do it for that they have to do it for every stat for every sport played by men and women.
Somewhere Jay Williams is downplaying this achievement.
She broke the Women's scoring record... Men and women's are not even in the same category. She might not get a shot off if she played against the men's teams.
Is it really the same record ?
You would have to take every 3 pter she's made and subtract a point away since there was no 3pt line when pete played
@@Jim26Dare you serious? You think Pete shot at the same range? No! He took infinitely more high percentage shots. The game is different. It’s played different. The record has changed. Accept it. 😊
Pete was a jump shooter! His point total would have been higher if the 3 point line was part of the game during his time.
@@DanM-r9o
I'm a basketball purist. I love 25-30 feet jumpers. I just don't think you should get three points for them. Caitlin is in the boat LeBron is. He has 40,000 career points but he's 2nd in all-time field goals made with over 1,100 fewer baskets than Kareem. Clark has the most points but she's 5th all-time in field goals made. The three allows a player to get more points while actually making less shots.
@@indykegof course it would have been. But the core of his shots were 12-20 feet. Not 24-28 like Clark does. Each foot closer is a higher percentage shot. The game was played differently. Clark would have played it differently too, if those were the rules today. Get real
I f you make her 3 point shots to 2 point like Pete Maravich he would still be the best in fact Someone said Pete made many long shots to perhaps having up to 13 3 pointers each game he played !!!!!!!
Clark intentionally runs into her, then she complains for the foul. Sad
CC tried to break the record before this with a near half-court shot that would have brought down the roof at Carver-Hawkeye Arena
Sweet. Love it.
She's gonna sign with Golden State to teach Curry how to shoot three pointers 😲
Big deal her points came with 3 pointers, Pistol's points were only 2 pointers. She is not even close to Pistol.
he shot 40 a game to her 20 attempts. She's average 66 a game had she did. Thanks for playing.
Looked like a great defensive play on Steulke
Pete played varsity only 3 years and no 3 point .Comparing apples to oranges.
Let me know if you EVER see Caitlin actually play defense or play a game when she isn’t constantly whining to refs and secretly playing “dirty” and “chippy”. 🙄
I’ve seen her rebound multiple times. I’ve seen her steal the ball several times. And I’ve only watched about three of Iowa’s games. Tell me that you’re ignorant without telling me.
You’ve seen her STAND AROUND and cherry pick when SOMEONE ELSE on her team plays defense and deflects the ball from an opponent in her direction. You’re the one who doesn’t see the real game. But since you’re name calling, I’ll just take the high ground and say you’re ignorant.
Caitlin is a amazing player but she isn't the only one out there with game like people insinuate. But this is a perfect example of how in my opinion women basketball players are more fundamentally sound in some areas than their counterparts. It's good to see.❤🏀👍🏽
people arent "insinuating" shes the only one "with game". They are saying shes the best of all of them. which she is. simple as that.
🤣🤣🤣 She may be good for a girl, but, it's a girl. If you think womens BB is any way close to the mens game, you're a woman. They can't even use the same ball. They play to empty arenas. She may be great in WOMENS BALL, but thats like being head of the class in summer school...means NOTHING. She will be a star at the next level...but the next level is a joke. @@JoshuaDay0550

Breaking the record on a flop is wild 😅
I mean, this would be impressive if it was a player from the mens league. Someone breaking it in the women’s league shouldn’t really count. Seems like the equivalent to if they had a special ed league and someone broke it in that league. What kind of competition was there really to break it? Great, you scored a lot of points against mediocre opponents 😂
You’re really a special kind of stupid.

@Blacklist324 First off, learn how to spell and the use of the English language. Second of all, it's a NCAA record for basketball over all, not men's or women's.
Terrible call Clark initiates contact then pulls her flop show.
Dear men, the fact that a woman and no man, including modern greats, broke Pete's record does not deprive you of your masculinity. It is in the record book, and it will take another player, not a social media commenter to rewrite it
