Our Philips Hue outdoor motion sensor that's ONLY connected to the Philips Hue hub shows up in Alexa routines as an option. The indoor ones might as well now. It started after an update last year.
@@applesebyable Yes. I created it to work between between certain hours of the day, and it will send a notification to my phone via Alexa. Alexa doesn't actually connect directly to the Hue app other than through the Hue Skill that is enabled in Alexa.
I have a Echo Dot 4th Generation. I've purchased the Phillips Motion detector, but the Alexa app isn't discovering it. I was under the impression I didn't need a Phillips Hub if I had the newest Echo Dot?
Thanks! Very little other information from Hue how to do this. I still have several sensors linked to the Hue hub, but the one linked to Alexa I just use to as a thermometer. Alexa can send me an alert, and notification from the same routine (very handy) and I can ask her what the temperature is.
Hello Grant, you are welcome. Thank you for the comment. I am glad to be able to share another option for those sensors. That’s great that you’re able to use it for temperature information. I do like the additional functionality. Thank you for sharing and for watching. Have a great day.
Craig what do we do if we can’t setup sensors through the app. I am in South Africa and for some reason we do not have this app available in our region? I am interested in the echo plus or show. For adding home security. Sensors etc.
It would be cool to use the routines to briefly disable a sensor so that I can use two (facing opposite directions) to differentiate between me leaving and me entering a room
Thanks for the video! Today I was able to set up a hue motion sensor that is paired with my hue hub in order to trigger routines. Looks like they’ve added this feature since the video was created.
So the Echo's now list a Built-in Zigbee smart home hub on the Echo Plus 2nd Gen units. Have you played around with Zigbee motion sensors? My Echo Plus is arriving Friday, I'm curious and will try to pair some Konke devices this weekend.
Hi Craig, My Echo Dot has just connected to my Hue motion sensor. Not sure if Amazon have recently done an update, but in the Alexa app, I did an update to look for new devices this morning and it recognised my indoor Hue motion sensor. I currently have the sensor connected to the Hue Bridge. I only have one Echo Dot at the moment. I don't have an Echo Plus. I haven't tried anything yet, but I also have the option to create Routines. Up until now, I thought that only Echo Plus with Zigbee could recognise the Hue motion sensor and I have also read that you could only connect it when it wasn't connected to the Hue Bridge. Anyway it seems to be good news.
Caught up on this one! I don’t have the proper Echo device for the sensors to work. Only 3rd Gen Dot and an Echo Spot. I’ll keep watching for any changes! The Hub might be nice as I have had an issue with a Dot-3 disconnected itself from the WiFi. The alarm did go off that I had set but the routines I set for cancel alarm didn’t. (Something else I learned from you!)
Hello Larry, it is a bummer that it doesn’t work with other echoes. I do need to investigate to see if there is a Wi-Fi motion sensor that will work. If I find one I will make a video on it. That’s great that the alarm triggered your routine. It’s always good to hear when something like that works. Thank you for letting me know. Have a great day buddy.
One major downside I'm finding with the Echo Flex motion sensors is that there is a cooldown period of about 30 seconds before said sensor even has the ability to track again. Please let me know if this is not your experience and what specific motion sensor you used.
Hey Craig, great video thanks. Question for you please. I want to be able to enable a "skill/routine" on Alexa that would turn on a switch (which controls a smart plug) such that when enabled, if the temperature in a room gets below "X" farenheit, to tell the smart switch to turn on, and when the temp gets ABOVE "Y" then turn the switch off. BUT I only want the switch to behave in this fashion when i ENABLED that routine/skill etc.. What components and/or app would I need to do this? I have several amazon smart switches that I can easily turn on and off now. I also have a Govee wifi temp sensor that gives me real time temp data THAT if I could grab that data from it, i *could* use to automate this with Alexa. But i can't figure this out for the life of me.. I have written to Govee, and they are "0" help at all.. I looked at the sonhoff switch with a temp sensor, but not sure I could enable this on and off with Alexa as a temporary skill or routine.. Any help you can be would be amazing for sure thanks Chuck
Hi. A little help please anyone. I have several Hue sensors around my house, but I’m keen to use one to activate a voice routine when it detects motion. I only own Dot devices (latest gen 3) and a new echo show 5. My Alexa app won’t let me add these sensors I presume as they’re all already tied to the hue hub. Will I have to buy a new Hue sensor and compatible Alexa unit/speaker in order to achieve my goal or is there another way?
I got a question on this. Now I do have a second gen echo show, and also a hue hub. But im curious that if I paired these sensors to my show 2 and create a routine, can I select which echo plays the routine? For example, I have dots all over my house, can I select to have the dot in my backroom say hello when I enter my house, or will the routine only play from the show 2 which is in my kitchen? Or can I set up routines through my alexa app and pair it with my hue hub to select which echo says or does the routines?
Hi, thanks for this. Think I’m buying to buy a Phillips motion sensor for my Alexa. Is it possible to set it so it only comes on past a certain time if motion is sensed?
Hello buddy, I have not tried IFTTT with sensors. My thought would be that the sensor would need to be paired up with a hub that supports IFTTT. Then a routine for the hub and sensor would need to be created through IFTTT. It would be nice if Amazon would incorporate IFTTT into the echo devices so you could trigger things that they may not support natively. Thanks for checking out the video. Thank you also for being there on the live streams. I do appreciate the support. Have a great day.
Hi Im John from Italy.... I'm a big fan. I am looking for a woreless battery powered external pir motion sensor that can trigger my external flood lights as a traditional sensor but I would like to create some routines to control my flood lights through a sonoff basic. Any idea's? The basic idea is for security purposes or to light up the surroundings at my arrival at night through a voice command or IFTT geofencing. Thanks and continue making great content
Sorry I am a newbie to smart homes. Is it possible to trigger any brands of smart bulbs or just the Philips Hue bulbs with the Philips Hue motion sensor paired with Alexa?
Hello Sam, yes it is possible to trigger other brands of smart bulbs when paired with an echo. Once you use it as a motion sensor for routines you are able to select any of these smart devices that show up in your list that your echo recognizes. I was able to use the motion sensor to trigger my LIFX bulbs. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching and your question. Have a great day.
Looking for some help with a routine. I have multiple motion detectors. What I want to do is have 2 voice commands "Enable Motion" and "Disable Motion". I want the command to enable or disable all motion detectors. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have had a Philips Hue motion sensor sitting around for ages because it would not work directly with Alexa via the Hue app as the smartthings sensors do. I also found using them within the Hue app a pain and they do not seem to respond the way I would expect. I have now added the sensor to my Alexa app which worked perfectly, the first time (I did try this a few months ago and it did not work) and got her to trigger a basic routine which I am pleased to say has some great timing controls built in which is a big added plus. Thanks for the video keep up the good work.
Hello Jonathan, thank you. I am glad that you enjoyed the video. That is great to hear that you’re able to put that Hue motion sensor to work. That’s great that it’s working for you now. I found it very limiting using the Phillips hue app. Up until recently I’ve been using it with the HomePod so that I can trigger lifX bulbs and smart plugs. Thank you for sharing your experience and watch him. Have a great day.
Hello, no you do not need the hue bridge if you have an echo show second generation. You can either pair the sensor up with the bridge or with the echo. It can’t be paired up to both at the same time. So I had to on pair it from my hub and pair it to the Echo in order to get it to work for this video. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching. Have a great day.
With echo dot 3rd Generation i dont need a smarthings hub rigth? i have only 2 smartthings motion sensors, and i want to know if i can connect directly to alexa withou a hub.
Phillips has outside motion sensors. If you have a front covered deck you can use the regular Phillips sensors or you can try the wyze senser motion sensor which is cheaper and works with echos now. The benefit of the wyze sense compared to other sensors is that it's cheaper and comes with two door sensors that work with the echo as well. I have both Phillips and wyze senser and products work great. I put the Phillips on the front deck facing the door way and have it setup to announce someone at the door and the a couple lights come on it's cool.
Great video, Craig. I have an Echo Dot 3 gen... Can I do something like that using a smart lamp (like Sonoff, without hub) as trigger? For exemple, when the lamp comes on, Alexa will say "Good evening" or play a music, or something like that!!! Thanks.
I have the Phillips sensors with Phillips hub. I do see my sensors in the Alexa app and are setup as a routine for the front door for announcements and notifications. There might have been an update recently because I wasnt able to see the sensors before.
Hi Juan, is your routine working properly please? I have echo dot and philips bridge too, sensor is found by alexa and routines can be added but it would only work for like an hour or so at the start then it wont trigger any more.
@@karlitosz175 Ny system is working fine. Try to reboot the echo and hubs offer bridge. Sometimes it takes a minute for things to work constantly. If it doesn't try removing and reinstalling the device.
Personally when trying to set up a routine using the moving sensors, I get the message Error: the device is currently not supported. Have you guys faced this issue too?
Yeah, that is the problem with most devices on the market. They develope a new add-on device but it will only work with the newest latest and greatest released device. I already have 4 Echo devices, Samsung Smartthings Hub, and every light bulb in my house is connected to the Smartthings. So to use this new motion sensor I have to invest in a new Echo + or Show. Hopefully, Amazon will upgrade their software to include this sensor line.
Hello Johnny, you are right. It is a bit annoying that you can’t just discover the hubs you already have and the sensors attached. Hopefully Amazon will get on top of that and make that something that won’t work in routines. I don’t want to have to choose between pairing the sensor to the Echo hub or the hub that the sensor is made for. Thank you for checking out the video and sharing your thoughts. Have a great day.
I agree. The echo devices should be able to tap into sensors to do the routines. I have a few echo dots, 1st & 2nd Gen, & they are just there not being able to run some cool routines (say welcome when i open a door)etc.
Hi. I was trying to create a routine with either two motion sensors, Nous and Philips Hue, but the app tells me "this device is not currently supported". Do you how I can overcome this issue?
Greg Doull 3 minutes ago (edited) Hi Craig - got a Note 9 running Android 10, UK on O2. Got a Hue motion sensor and hue bulb in toilet. Not much in your video is the same as what is showing on my phone. Got the Coloured lights when resetting motion sensor, then sensor is found, but it is calling it a light. No scene mentioned. What I am after is to go into a room, light comes on, leave room, light off. Thanks Sorry about the double comment.
Very informative and nice step by step videos thank you for that i wish you could kindly make a video on the motion sensors that are compatible with Alexa i recently impulse bought the new Amazon echoshow 8 2nd Gen. and i dont know which motion sensors that will suit this device i wish you could help me thanks in advance
i never commented first on a video before,. good video by the way. I want to set motion sensors up, but I only have Echo dots. i do have a Hue hub. I am not sure if I really want to pay out for a Echo plus.
Hello, thank you for being the first to comment. Unfortunately you’re not able to access the motion sensor through the Hue hub. I have had the motion sensor for quite some time and it’s never shown up as a device that I could use in a routine. I think if I was buying a new echo, I would consider the extra money for the plus to have this option. I don’t think I would go out and buy one just for this feature. I do need to investigate WiFi motion sensors to see if they are an option. Thank you for watching in your comment. Have a great day.
Alexa cannot trigger routines from Philips Hue Motion Sensor, despite it appears as a device. It only works if you remove the Hue sensor from the Hue bridge and then pair it to an Echo device with zigbee hub built in
Can you set it to only start working at a certain time . Lets say i dont want the sensor to work in the day only at night for feeding times when i have to go into the kitchen at night to make milk .
You can make those changes in the routines. Just saw the routine runs at certain times. You would change the anytime in the routine to the times you want.
Hi , I have smart life door sensors it is linked with Alexa and giving the feedback however when I try to create a routine on it it will not work, do you have a solution for it???
If I have a sensor set up in the hallway to turn the light on, wait 15 minutes and then turn the light off, if people are walking back and forth along the hallway, how can I stop the lights from turning off every few minutes as the 15 minute periods overlap with each other? In other words how can I disable the routine from being triggered until after the routine has run to completion?
Thanks Craig for this video. I'm already using a Sylvania motion sensor for automating the bathroom lights and exhaust fans. I did not know I can pair a Hue motion sensor. Using Alexa routines with a sensor is much more versatile than using with the Hue hub where its quite limited.
Hello, thank you for sharing. That’s great that you’re already using this feature. It is nice to get more functionality out of the sensors instead of just being limited to what Phillips allows you to do with their lights. Pretty much any zig bee sensor should work and show up for routines. Thank you for watching the video. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Have a great day.
Hello Luca, it can only be paired to one or the other. But now, my echos are recognizing the hue sensor pair to the hue hub. This seems to be a recent update. Thanks for watching.
I put the Phillips on the front deck facing the door way and have it setup to announce someone at the door and have a couple lights come on it's cool.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. You have some good points. I do like the cost and ease of use of the wyze cam and sensors. You can’t beat the price for what you get. Thanks for sharing your use and for watching.
Hello Gareth, You are so right about that. It is frustrating that you can’t have it paired to another hub and still see it with an echo. My HomePod recognizes the motion sensor when it’s paired to the Philip Hue hub. If Apple and the limited HomePod can do it there’s no reason Amazon can’t do it. Thank you for checking out the video. Have a great day Gareth.
Hello, you might be able to pair a Ring center directly to an echo. But you would not be able to have the sensor also paired to the alarm. If the Ring sensor is not already showing up under your routine settings then the ring isn’t incorporated even though Amazon owns them. My ring video doorbell sensor does show up as an available device. Not having the ring alarm I don’t know if the motion sensors show up as an option under devices. I hope if you go and look you do see the motion sensors. That would be nice. Thank you for watching. Have a great day.
Love the video. Thank you Craig. I added 2 Smarthings motion sensors and a contact sensor directly into Alexa and recently noticed 2 things: 1) In the Alexa phone app I named the sensor as "Kitchen M Sensor" but in the Web-based Alexa app the name appears as "First Motion Sensor". 2) When I click on the sensor setting in the Alexa phone app it recently started to showing "Connected Via Samjin". Previously it was "Connected Via "Echo Living Room" my echo in the living room etc. Not sure where Samjin came from (I believe it is the Samsung China) But why is it there now?. Also I noticed that when clicking on the sensor the Alexa app keeps saying "Device Unresponsive" but in reality the sensor works. Anyone encountered similar issues and any feedback? Thank you.
Thanks for your replay Can i ask you witch is the cheaper motion sinsor that triggers alexas shows 2gen routens or the zigbee 4gen alexa i have philips hue sinsor and it work great but is there a alternative option Thanks
Yes! to more motion sensor tech. Carrying around my phone, or using my show 5 is sometimes a bit too inconvenient. Sometimes Alexa misunderstands and makes the whole process extra work to activate some of my devices.
Hi Craig, I do really enjoy your videos! I don’t have an Echo with an integrated Hub, but use SmartThings Hub instead, Alexa allows me to see and use motion, contact and basically any sensor by the Smartthings skill and I do use them as a trigger for my routines, just exactly as you did, but without the need of an Echo Show 2, just regular Echos.
Hi Craig. Great review. Did you get a chance to test the Philips Hue outdoor motion sensor. Unlike the indoor model, the Amazon web page doesn't say it works it Alexa. Frank
Hello Frank, my apologies for not responding earlier. Thank you very much. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I have not checked out the outdoor motion sensor. I am curious if it works the same way. I will have to look into that. Thank you for the question and for watching. Have a great day.
Great video. I'm so glad to be able to watch your videos. They really helped me a lot. Perhaps you can help me again : so I have 2 Philips motion sensores, thanks to you, but I can't use alexa voice command to trigger the motion sensor. E.g I have to go to the app.. And then choose 'when first sensor detected motion' and then choose what to do... I mean what trigger the action is the motion... What I want is active the motion sensores bye voice... When I leave home for example. Also I can't creat a routine using more than just one sensor... Therefore I have to create several routines for which sensor... Do you have any idea how to solve this?
It can be used now. It wasn’t available when I made this video. I did a recent video on using wyze and other sensors without needing an echo with a hub.
Under routines you would change Anytime to the specific days and times you want it to trigger. You can’t pick sunset and sunrise. Only specific start and stop time.
If you have an echo show 2nd gen or echo plus you can pair it directly to the echo and not need a hub. Both of those types of echos have a hub built in.
@@CraigsTechTalk ahhh ok so you still need a hub of some sort. really wish amazon would just make their own at this point and some buttons too (i know they have those massive buttons that were meant for games but we need a smaller button)
I have a Philips Hue Motion Sensor - the same one you have in the video. I’m trying to set up a routine in the Alexa app so when motion is detected, Alexa will say a custom phrase. So, when someone walks into the kitchen Alexa will say “Don’t eat all the chocolate”. I know my sensor is working fine as it switches my kitchen light on as it should when it’s dark enough. I just can’t get it to make Alexa say anything even though the built in Routines wizard thing suggests it should work fine. Is this a known problem ?
Hi Craig, great video. New subscriber right here. As a content creator myself I appreciate what you put into this. This video came up in my results when trying to find out if I can set a routine so that my Echo Show 5 shows a live feed from my Ring cameras when there is motion or a doorbell press. Do you have such a video or would you be able to tell me if this is possible please? Thanks!
Thank you very much. That’s great you are a fellow content creating. I did a video on motion sensors and routines. That would be the only thing that I know that would trigger from the Ring doorbell. There is no ring based option yet. You can go into the app, routines and for action choose smart device. The only thing that shows up is the motion sensor from the doorbell. Thanks for subs ringing and sticking around for more. Have a great day.
Craig's Tech Talk Thanks very much. The best workaround I’ve found is by adding to the routine that my echo says “Computer, show front door camera” when there is motion at my door bell so that my echo show in the same room then shows who’s at my front door. It would be great if they could add that feature so it can show the camera on a show when the doorbell rings or there is motion.
Sorry for the delayed response. When this video was made you had to have an echo with a hub. If you have a hue hub, the app installed and the Philip hue skill enabled, you should see it in the Alexa app.
I have several Alexa routines that I want to disable but I have to do them individually. How do I have a shortcut so that 1 button or command will disable several Alexa routines?
I don't think there is a way to do that at this time. One thing that might work is to put limits on when a routine will run. That way the times you would disable it, it will just not run. It may not work for your use case. But I use a routine to turn on my lights in my office. But I have limited it so it will only work between 3:30p and 7am.
Hello Tim, it would be great if you could use it with any echo without a hub. I do want to investigate and see if there is any Wi-Fi sensors that would work. It would be nice if you could use a Wi-Fi sensor and not have to buy an echo with the hub. Thanks for checking out the video. Have a great day Tim
Hello, thank you very much. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. The only sensor that I have played with so far is the Philip Hue sensor. I do think it’s great that the Hue sensor has a temperature sensor build in. I’m not sure if the smart things has that same option. I hope this helps. Thank you for checking out the video on the nice comment. Have a great day.
Hello John, if the blink sensors are a zig bee sensor and you have an echo with a hub it should work fine. You could try to put it into pairing mode and see if the echo discovers it. I hope it works for you. The thing to keep in mind is that I won’t be able to pair to both set ups at the same time. Thank you for watching. Have a great day.
Hello Anslem, I believe the ring sensors are Zigbee sensors. I might be wrong about that. But there would be no way to pair the sensor up to the alarm system and to an echo. Also there is no way to write a routine that would trigger the alarm. If the echo recognizes a Ring sensor you would have to pick which system you wanted to be with. Either the Alarm or the echo. Thank you for watching the video. Have a great day.
What am more interested in, a cheaper option that is available on Indian Markets, something around 10 bucks that can work with wifi or Alexa, given that I have a bunch of smart lights plugged in my house which is currently being controlled through the app, but I want to trigger with some kind of cheap motion sensor.
So I have a question? Is there a way to disable a routine by voice, without going into the app? Like when we get in the shower to disable the motion detector from turning the lights off while we are in the shower. I tried setting a separate routine but it didn't override the original routine. I tried naming the original lights off routine when no motion was detected lights off and asking for Alexa to disable Lights off routine but she said she couldn't help me with that.🤷 And other then having to go in the app to disable it and doing the same to turn it back on everytime we get in the shower. I also wasnt sure if there was any other option other then just disabling the lights off routine. So my next option was to come on here and ask so my daughter isn't screaming everytime the lights go off while she's in the shower. Tho it's very entertaining for me I'm sure she would not agree. So any help is appreciated. Thx! 💜😸
I don’t know of a way of doing it by voice. My suggestion would be to delay the when no motion is detected to a specific time frame. For example have it only activate in the morning after you typical finish your shower. Then I would add a wait in the motion detected routine that automatically turns the lights off after 30mins to an hour. That way the lights done get left on before that motion stops routine kicks in at certain time in the morning. It is not ideal, but it would automate it and avoid turning off the routine with voice or the app.
@@CraigsTechTalk Thanks for the response man. What I tried last couple days for myself was after the lights cut off I ask for Echo to turn lights back on and I found that as long as u don't reach outside the curtin for anything &set off the motion detection again that seem to work. But I also don't freak out when it goes dark for a minute like my 11year old does. Like I said pretty entertaining for me but she'd highly disagree.😹Hope that doesn't make me sound like a bad mom.🤷Again thanks I'll let you know if I find a better solution&if you could do the same I'd appreciate that as well. HAPPY HOLIDAYS! Loving the channel💜😸
How do you use Wyze/Alexa/ how do use a trigger, for movement/motion, with Wyze/ I want to, for example, if my Wyze Cam, in the back yard detects motion, I want alexa to say, Motion in back yard.?
You can’t use the wyze cameras motion sensor to trigger routines. You can use the separate Wyze sensor to trigger a routine like what you are saying. Here is my latest video on writing and using routines. ruclips.net/video/SvSfGp9TT78/видео.html Thank you for watching.
@@CraigsTechTalk Thanks for the reply, I've actually gotten pass this, since this comment, I'm actually here now. This is the short version, first then the long version, after. Multiple Triggers would be nice,a way to active and deactivate routines, through voice vs a toggle switch, a way to sort routines, more than just ABC order and newest routines, also a way to add multiple devices, to one routine, vs having to create a whole new routine, just so a sound/alarm sound can come out of a specific device, also grouping routines, would be nice too, to be able to say one command, to trigger multiple routines. Some of this is hard to think about lol, I need a video lol, or some guidance lol. I thought of the routine stuff, before this, but I want to take this further, I've setup with wyze door sensors and motion sensors, and Alexa/dots and flex, I've setup triggers/routines, with the amazon alexa app, so meaning, if the door sensor is triggered/opened, durring a certain time, alexa will first turn on all of the lights in my house, then, if its a day alarm/an away alarm, it will send my phone a notification, someones breached a certain door, or window, and a buzzard/alarm, will go off, on alexa devices through out the house, also if I'm gone, certain parts of my house have wyze motion sensors in them, and the same type thing happends, also I can toggle, these on and off, but what I would like to do, is setup a routine/a grouped routine, or another thing that would be nice, is when I setup a routine, I can select multible alexa devices to say something/sound alarms vs having to setup/create a whole other routine, so grouping routines togeather, and adding the ability to selwct multiple alexa devices, to sound alarms, also so when I say, alexa disable the alarm, I can now open the door again, and then when I say, alexa arm the alarm, also if I say day, the motion sensors are also armed, anyway, any thoughts or a response video, when your trying to do, allot like this/add stipulations/variables/kind of like IFTTT, ontop of IFTTT, then it seems to get tricker/harder to think about/accomplish, unless I'm just over looking something. The main thing I want to do right now though, is add voice commands to enable and disable routines, vs having to go through the app and select them/enable and disable them individually, also one voice command would be nice, to disarm/arm a day, or night alarm, the night one, kind of/ is basically autonaomus/it has a time, but to leave, without triggering an alarm, I have to disable, Like three routines manually, if any of that makes sense lol. Also it would be nice to create, another/new routine, and link it with other routines, meaning, create a routine, that when you say alexa/wake word, arm day alarm, and it triggers that routine. This may already exzist/ I may just not know how to do this, this all can get complex, if done right, the automations and adding routines, to other voice commands, or add, multiple triggers to start/execute certain routines. Also another thing that would be nice is routine, folders/sorting, more than just newest and ABC order, maybe subfolders/security folder/you can name, routine folders, anyway, that part doesn't exist, but it would help, when you have, 50 or 60 routines, and some of them need enabling and re-enabling, it CAN be hard to manage them, granted, MOST of them are automated. Maybe creating your own Alexa Skill, is the answer for now, unless I'm missing something. I also think allot of the things people are trying to do with routines, are fairly basic/yes it can be productive/helpful,but I feel like we've just scratched the surface, of whats possible with it, yes its nice to have a light come on, and turn off at a certain time/play your news/flash briefing/your schedule/add tasks to your schedule, but thats basic, compared to whats possible. Anyway hopefully I'm just over looking something, and what I want to do, is available, with in the alexa app, and I won't have to create my own skill and maybe even third party app, to enter/add laired/multiple/grouped routines/multiple triggers/acceptions/stipulations/variables, anyway, hopefully, I'm just over looking something. Anyway a video on this is NEEDED.
Hello Scotia Jinker, Simple sensors like that do work wonderfully. No need for Wi-Fi or a smart device. Just hook up the lights and a sensor and you’re good to go. For my porch light I have a dawn to dusk sensor so I don’t have to do anything smart with it. Thank you for sharing and watch him. Have a great day.

Hello, If you have an echo +2nd generation or echo show second generation routines and smart devices will still run if you lose Internet. Those hubs inside stay online without an Internet connection. Which is a pretty cool feature. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching.
I have tried with zero success to get my SONOFF CT60 PIR2 motion sensors to work in a routine. They will not show when setting up a routine. The sensors you used in your video tutorial are about 4 times more expensive here in South Africa. Just does not make budget sense to purchase. Very frustrating amazon just cant let one use the motion sensor I have as it shows up under all devices.
Hello Franco, no they will not work with the first generation echo show. It Has to be either an echo plus or the second generation because those have hubs built in. Thank you for watching. Have a great day.
Hello Joe, unfortunately they will not work with the dots unless you have another echo that has a hub. I do need to investigate if there is a Wi-Fi option that does not require a hub. If I find one I’ll do a video on that. Thank you for watching and your question. Have a great day.
Recording your iphone screen then superimposing that video back onto the phone on the table is a very nice touch, and I'm sure it took you a bit of effort.
Thank you very much for noticing that. I feel like it adds a little more than just a screen over lay with me talking. It gives people a break from this face. Thank you for watching and the nice comment.
I know it doesn't make sense for a guy with a smarthome, but I have zero reasons or opportunities to emply sensors or buttons. But for some reason, I really want to, so I keep researching lol.
That is the coolest ! Connect your sensors..I have just a little problem with smart things.Their service seems to drop out from time to time. But since I've started using the Alexa hubs.I hooked up my Zigby bulbs. Now what's your help I've learned how to hook up sensors. It's made my System More Responses Thanks to you And automate your life .For the great information.😸
Waiting for you to strap 4 motion sensors to hands and feet and have your lights change along with your re-enactment of Micheal Jackson's "Thriller" video. Be sure to video that to show at your kids' birthday parties in their teens.
Hello Bob, that is very funny. I think my kids would be freaked out. Especially if I was able to reenact Michael Jackson’s thriller video. Thanks for the laugh. Thank you also for watching. Have a great day.
I have a door sensor that when the door opens, an Alexa routine says "The door is open". QUESTION: I want Alexa to continue to say "The door is open" until I physically close the door. How do I do that?
Hi Craig, I watched this video and another one of my other favorite RUclipsrs Paul Hibbert’s video automatically started playing right after yours. In his video he is talking about a Zigbee Hub that works with WiFi. Check it out perhaps you can review it. Here is a link to his video. ruclips.net/video/jhk5MxrzOPI/видео.html. This Hub will allow you to connect devices that use Zigbee without you needing to buy an Echo Show or Plus. Now about your video. I have been using Sylvania Motion Sensors. They sure are cheaper than Philips Hue Motion Sensor and although I don’t know for sure I am willing to bet it will be cheaper than Smartthings too. So I believe any Zigbee device will work with the Echo Show and Echo Plus. Let me know what you think.
Hello Nikki, Thank you for sharing Paul’s link. I do subscribe to his channel to. I have not watch that one on the hub yet. I will check that out. That sounds like a great option. I appreciate you sharing this. That’s great that the Sylvania sensors are working well for you. I had heard from another user that those ones work well too. I did not want to lead anyone a stray with saying any Zigbee device would work. I also could not remember if it was the Sylvania of motion sensors or another brand that someone said was working. So I stuck with those that Amazon mentioned specifically. I believe you are correct that any zig bee sensor would work. I do need to buy some other ones and see if they pair up. I am really curious about this Wi-Fi hub and seeing how that would work with an echo. Thanks again for the information. Thank you also for all the support and contributions in the comments. Have a great day Nikki.
Our Philips Hue outdoor motion sensor that's ONLY connected to the Philips Hue hub shows up in Alexa routines as an option. The indoor ones might as well now. It started after an update last year.
so you managed to create a routine via alexa app using the hue sensor, while it was also connected to hue app?
@@applesebyable
Yes.
Excellent. That's the way it should work. ie: The Hue Motion Sensor is connected to the Hue Hub, not paired directly to an Echo!
So the Echo's now list a Built-in Zigbee smart home hub on the Echo Plus 2nd Gen units. Have you played around with Zigbee motion sensors?
My Echo Plus is arriving Friday, I'm curious and will try to pair some Konke devices this weekend.
Hi Craig,
My Echo Dot has just connected to my Hue motion sensor.
I wonder if this has a Hub. Saw this was just announced. Something else for you to review! "Amazon unveils the $90 Echo Show 5." I like the price...
One major downside I'm finding with the Echo Flex motion sensors is that there is a cooldown period of about 30 seconds before said sensor even has the ability to track again. Please let me know if this is not your experience and what specific motion sensor you used.
Mate. Thanks for the video. Will it work if i have echo dot 2, nue zigbee hub and motion sensor?
Any help you can be would be amazing for sure thanks
Chuck
Can the smartthings hub control all the sensors and fix all the issues you mentioned in this video?
Hi Craig,
Do I need to get a Hue hub to pair the censor with Alexa for routine triggering?
If you are using an echo with a Zigbee hub built in, you can connect the sensor directly to it. If not, you would be the hub.
Could I use IFTTT to set the routine with sensors up?
Hello buddy, I have not tried IFTTT with sensors. My thought would be that the sensor would need to be paired up with a hub that supports IFTTT. Then a routine for the hub and sensor would need to be created through IFTTT. It would be nice if Amazon would incorporate IFTTT into the echo devices so you could trigger things that they may not support natively. Thanks for checking out the video. Thank you also for being there on the live streams. I do appreciate the support. Have a great day.
When you were making the routine, where it said anytime, does that mean I can make it only trigger the routine for after 11pm as example
Will this work with Alexa Guard to alert you of motion when Guard is enabled?
I am looking to buy a new Echo Show 5 and was wondering if there is an outdoor temp sensor that works with it? Thanks for all your great videos!
What changed to make this work? Did you acquire an Echo Plus with hub built in, or did an Alexa skill (Hue?) just improve or something?
@@bobriemersma Good question, I can only assume either the app has been improved or the firmware as I have had an Echo Plus for quite a while now.
so you don't need the Hue Bridge for it to work cuz I have the Echo Show 2nd gen

Great video! Are there any motion sensors that can be used outside? I’d like to have one mounted outside and trigger lights to go on.
Ring has some new outside sensors in there smart lighting section.
Juan Rivera cool! Thanks for the info. I’ll look them up.
I would like to setup a sensor in my mail box which is about 100 ft. from the nearest echo dot 3rd. gen. will the Echo Motion Sensors work?

Hi Craig - got a Note 9 running Android 10, UK on O2.
Once you have paired the sensor with echo hub can you still paire it with Philips hue hub?
Hello Luca, it can only be paired to one or the other. But now, my echos are recognizing the hue sensor pair to the hue hub. This seems to be a recent update. Thanks for watching.
Phillips has outside motion sensors. If you have a front covered deck you can use the regular Phillips sensors or you can try the wyze senser motion sensor which is cheaper and works with echos now.
Good to see motion sensor ability available in the Echo series, frustrating that the sensor can't be paired to another hub simultaneously though 🤔
If Ring is part of Amazon now, could the Ring sensor be used to turn on some lights or something if it senses motion in the middle of the night?
Hello, you might be able to pair a Ring center directly to an echo. But you would not be able to have the sensor also paired to the alarm. If the Ring sensor is not already showing up under your routine settings then the ring isn’t incorporated even though Amazon owns them. My ring video doorbell sensor does show up as an available device. Not having the ring alarm I don’t know if the motion sensors show up as an option under devices. I hope if you go and look you do see the motion sensors. That would be nice. Thank you for watching. Have a great day.
Can the camera in the Echo show be used as a motion detector? LOVE the channel btw
Thank you.

How far away can motion be detected from ? and can motion sensors detect a light coming on that triggers them ?
Hi....will this be work with echo dot 3rd gen?
Yes! to more motion sensor tech.
Same here.
Have a great day.
hi, i have two motion sensors from Insteon. I am not getting success in linking with Alexa. I have Echo show 8. Any suggestions?
Hello Jay, my apologies for the delayed response. Have you enabled the skill from the Alexa skill store?
@@CraigsTechTalk yes. I have many Insteon switches, and all are working with Alexa. The motion sensors are not coming as Devices.
Can Wyze motion sensor and bridge be used to turn on lights?
It can be used now. It wasn’t available when I made this video. I did a recent video on using wyze and other sensors without needing an echo with a hub.
Can you use any motion sensors with echo dot ?
but how do you do that at a specific time? If motion detected between 10pm and 4am, then light turns on.
How can I setup the motion sensor to only trigger between sunset and sunrise. I don't want my porch light going on at noon.
Under routines you would change Anytime to the specific days and times you want it to trigger. You can’t pick sunset and sunrise. Only specific start and stop time.
So are you saying that I can use the Phillips hire motion sensor without the hub?
If you have an echo show 2nd gen or echo plus you can pair it directly to the echo and not need a hub. Both of those types of echos have a hub built in.
@@CraigsTechTalk ahhh ok so you still need a hub of some sort. really wish amazon would just make their own at this point and some buttons too (i know they have those massive buttons that were meant for games but we need a smaller button)
Hi there, can you get a senor to trigger a video to play?
Unfortunately you can’t at this time.
Did you need to purchase a Hue bridge too? Or just get the sensor and pair directly with Alexa?
Do I need to have Phillips Hue app installed ? I cannot seem to find the motion sensor. Also, I have a second gen Amazon echo. Should this work ?
I would install the hue app and test
I would like to see a motion sensor work with echo's as well. I think I could find some useful things to use it with around the house myself.
Loved the video, Any you would recommend out of all those motion sensors you mentioned?
Hello, thank you very much. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. The only sensor that I have played with so far is the Philip Hue sensor. I do think it’s great that the Hue sensor has a temperature sensor build in. I’m not sure if the smart things has that same option. I hope this helps. Thank you for checking out the video on the nice comment. Have a great day.
I would be interested on a review of the new Wyze sensors.
Hmm I have Blinks, wonder if this could be done with their motion sensors
Hello John, if the blink sensors are a zig bee sensor and you have an echo with a hub it should work fine. You could try to put it into pairing mode and see if the echo discovers it. I hope it works for you. The thing to keep in mind is that I won’t be able to pair to both set ups at the same time. Thank you for watching. Have a great day.
Hey Craig is there a way for these sensors to work with my ring alarm system?

Matt Matt I can guarantee you no one read this .
I’ve been using sensors for years to turn on the light in my garage & my workshop hut, they’re called PIR.

If you lost internet for what ever reason will the routing still works?
Hello, If you have an echo +2nd generation or echo show second generation routines and smart devices will still run if you lose Internet. Those hubs inside stay online without an Internet connection. Which is a pretty cool feature. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching.
Good stuff! thanks Craig
So there's no way to use a motion detector with routines if you have an echo? That doesn't make sense to me, do you know why?
Echo dot*
I need to be able to turn a motion sensor on or off for a window of time as a daily routine.
Thank you. This is a very informative channel. 👍👍
Hello, thank you very much. That is very nice of you to say. I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the channel. Thank you for watching. Have a great day.
Does this sensor work with Echo Dot 3?
so these sensors will not work with my Amazon Echo Show 1st Generation?
Hello Franco, no they will not work with the first generation echo show. It Has to be either an echo plus or the second generation because those have hubs built in. Thank you for watching. Have a great day.
@@CraigsTechTalk I see. Thanks for the reply. Great content
So these won'r work with dots?
Hello Joe, unfortunately they will not work with the dots unless you have another echo that has a hub. I do need to investigate if there is a Wi-Fi option that does not require a hub. If I find one I’ll do a video on that. Thank you for watching and your question. Have a great day.
@@CraigsTechTalk Thank you and keep up the good work. Really good videos.
Shelly 1 wifi relays and keep your original light switches. UL listed and integrate into Alexa.
Recording your iphone screen then superimposing that video back onto the phone on the table is a very nice touch, and I'm sure it took you a bit of effort.
Thank you very much for noticing that. I feel like it adds a little more than just a screen over lay with me talking. It gives people a break from this face. Thank you for watching and the nice comment.
does it work with echo dot 4?
Yes it does.
and Lights on and off?
Wow going to setup both now🙂
Well that was fun sad you can't use the daylight side of it and not just time
I know it doesn't make sense for a guy with a smarthome, but I have zero reasons or opportunities to emply sensors or buttons.
My favorite Pavane.
Hello Gerry, that is cool. It is a good one. Thank you for watching and sharing. Have a great day.
Do you have to have a Phillips hub for this to pair with Alexa show?
