You dork, there is a huge difference between censorship and not paying you. Anyways, as always, advertising policies are based on what content advertisers are willing to have their ads displayed on. Google doesn't care what you say, man, they just want their money, and they don't want advertisers afraid of their platform. I think this is silly. I don't think having an ad run on someone's political rant is hurting your brand. But it's the marketing industry that needs to be convinced. Google is doing what it takes not to lose advertisers. If we convince the marketing industry, then google will be happy to take their money on more videos. It's a culture war between old-school marketer common wisdom and new media presentation styles, and google is not the enemy for once.
And newsflash: of course someone's bigoted rant hurts the brand of any advertiser associated with it, so yeah, good luck monetizing hate speech. But does anyone honestly believe that google has some secret agenda that's gonna keep them from taking money from advertisers, which is their entire business model?

They're probably using algorithms similar to what they use to identify content that violates copyright rules. It would be easy for them to pick up things like words and phrases that would make it ineligible for monetization.
The whole thing is kinda upsetting because they're almost saying that there isn't any demand for videos with this sort of content... that it's not worth advertiser's money... which simply isn't right - there's obviously a huge market for that!

This isn't about RUclips wanting to be kid friendly, it's about advertisers not wanting their ads on potentially controversial videos. RUclips isn't blocking any of these videos, just preventing ads from being placed on them.

Companies might not want there ads played on vulgar videos so people don't associate the attitude of the video with the ad. Thats all I can think of but I still think it is really stupid.
I feel like this is turning into what's happened to most of the old, really good youtubers. They were getting complaints from parents of children that were watching videos that had swearing in them. Is it me, or is this complete shit? When I was growing up, my parents were responsible for me and my actions. Now, it seems like parents aren't paying attention to what their kids watch and as soon as they hear "shit" or "fuck," they get all mad at the person in the video (or, in this case, youtube, itself) and don't take responsibility for their children and tell them what's appropriate and what's not; instead, they want someone else to change what goes on, instead of being responsible. These people shouldn't have to lose money because they don't post children's videos. If the advertisers don't like (a) certain video(s) or a channel's type of content, then they should be able to remove their advertisements from the video(s)/channel(s). If the advertisers are fine with it, then don't touch the videos.
I agree, I don't know if you watch skydoesminecraft but he released a video a few weeks ago asking if he should swear or not. Somewhere in that video he says that he approves of swearing as long as it is not used against anyone. I personally agree 100% with that due to the fact that swearing is more often then not, completely unacceptable. In my opinion, that is complete BS because everyone has the freedom of speech and to speak their mind. That is just my opinion, idc if you disagree but someone had to acknowledge it

So what about music videos with swear words in? What about movie ads with swear words in? Are they just not allowed to make money off of them? Seriously, RUclips has messed up so bad. I came to RUclips because I thought it was a place where people could express themselves, but now RUclips is just a place where kids can watch things to be entertained. Don't worry about over 13's, this place is apparently for kids now. What I don't get is there is an app called and I quote "RUclips Kids" which has specifically kid-friendly entertainment, so that kids can go there instead of risking watching videos that contain bad language. What I'm more scared for though is the smaller RUclipsrs who's job is RUclips. If only one of their videos get demonetized they could lose a lot of money and not be able to pay for things like their house or food.
Also if people show the RUclips guidelines policy on their video it could technically be demonetized because of certain words it contains

Term Clause is a saving grace that states:
If the Terms say it shouldn't happen, and it still happens, the person responsible is at fault.
Since YT states plainly that you should be 18 or have permission, and actually plainly tells parents that there are sites for kids, they can't help it if a 14 year old sneaks on and watches 18+ videos, the terms of service state that by doing so he consented to being able, therefore lying on a legal document. YT can't even be touched for that reason, regardless of what happened.

It should really be up to the advertisers as to which videos to place their ads, rather than youtube (and it's content bot). As you stated, a Creepypasta video should be able to monetize with ads for horror movies/metal albums,etc., for example.

The rules are ambiguous. If there is a game in a RUclips video, there rules should end there, and the rules of no sexual related content and violence DO NOT APPLY. I am not saying that there can be naked people or sex. Logically, the video needs to be perceived as someone playing a video game and nothing more. The vulgar language rule is bull shit as well. RUclips is becoming more like T.V. and certain ratings/ad deals are going to reflect the same way in that certain RUclipsrs will need to bleep out words, etc. Soon, they will not be allowed to play video games, or at least certain ones, anymore.

Exactly. If you're in high school, you are old enough to be able to watch videos about controversial world topics and things of that nature. Games are rated M for a reason and you have 10 year old kids playing that freely. Sure i played COD when I was 10 but I never cursed and raged online. RUclips is run by the older generation and they have the same mindset of T.V. stations. The difference is that the content creators and viewers are responsible for 95% of youtube's success and most of the people who work at RUclips are irrelevant and replaceable yet they hold all the power.
RUclips is also doing this so they can avoid videos being flagged if it is controversial or inappropriate in order to get the most money they can from videos. If videos are not controversial or inappropriate, then people won't flag it or complain about it in order to get taken gown, then the video stays up and RUclips MAKES MORE MONEY. RUclips is an American company. Not only do Americans have the right to free speech, everyone in the world deserves it. I don't see Ad companies ever complaining about controversial videos because those usually have a lot of views

This could be seriously bad for youtubers like: Jacksepticeye, Pewdiepie, Markiplier, Leafy, so on and so forth. I say this because if youtube is going to crackdown in these videos that could be flagged, then there could be people that dont like their content and just decide to flag it. RUclips needs to think carefully on this because this is going to mess with lifes. If there is a large group of people that just flag videos to get them demonitized that could have a big impact in the long run. If most youtubers dont do this by now, if you do have a profit coming in from your videos make a separate savings account to store money to get interest on. I know this might be common sense but if this is truly what is happening and if i understand it correctly then there might be a chance these new rules will be abused by those who dont care or feel like only certain youtubers should exist. Now I did watch the entire video before posting this and I do think that youtubers should take caution because youtube is known for doing things that affect a lot of people: Taking down certain videos because of other foreign companies, sudden copy right notices, youtube red where you have to pay for ad free content now. Theres so many new things that you never know when the next big thing could shoot down this sight. I may be wrong in this instance and could just be speaking without great knowledge but this is what i think on the matter of this. Let me know if my opinion on the matter is off, because i do not want to be misinformed and saying all this looking like a fool.
It's likely that because of how much popular RUclipsrs make, they will not be affected by this. i.e. Pewdiepie makes so much money that RUclips will likely not take down his videos because of how much money they get from his channel.

Maybe playing the game is the "easy" part, but it takes RUclipsrs hours to edit their videos, which is why many larger youtubers hire editors and at least three of them (Yogscast, Sky, and Matthias) have turned their channels into companies with designated editors that aren't normally seen in their videos, other than a few words or other thing put in humorously.

Going along with that, Matthias refers to his hired assistants as interns, which also means they're getting paid and job experience for future jobs. I have a lot of respect for the larger youtubers that do things like that, as they're helping to create jobs; especially in this economy. I'd hire someone that has that sort of cred on their resume

And yes I know Google owns RUclips, but RUclips gets an allocated set amount of cash each month and I feel as if they blew past it.
They couldn't 'lose' money from paying youtubers. RUclipsrs get money from ads. Advertisers pay RUclips to put ads up, then a percentage of money from the ads goes to the RUclipsrs, the rest goes to Google.

A lot of youtuber who are affected by these changes really need to be put in place. But even more don't deserve it at all. I completely disagree with the ban on "sensitive subjects", but it would make sense if they banned "mocking sensitive subjects". If someone makes a video about a tornado or something, it shouldn't be demonetised, but if they say: "Screw all the people who died in the Orlando shooting" they should be demonetised.
Or you could just get over yourself and realize people have different opinions than you do. Don't like, don't watch. It's not your business to decide who gets to make a living based on the opinions they state on a website where people are allowed to have their own opinions (or, at least, where they used to be).

If you aren't allowed to advocate mass murder, you're still having your freedom of speech revoked. There's no reason to demonetize such videos other than removing the freedom of speech of that person, by making them say what you want them to say for money.
I think they should see they messed up, then they should find a better solution to this "advertiser friendly content". If they had some kind of rating system like G, PG, PG-13, R and then advertisers can choose what rated video they want there ad to put on.

Google should NOT be able to directly manage monetization: here's a possible solution. Each individual advertiser should be the ones choosing which videos to monetize, not a one size fits all. Google likes to manage monetization, and having a centralized system is good, but Google is unaware of just how rapid our society is changing. Vulgar language for example is on the internet considered "normal" based on the audience. Certainly, harassment of an individual via YT is wrong, and I think prevention of that is the goal. But if the goal is to prevent children from seeing "adult" videos, that's why there is something called parents/guardians who are responsible for that end of the stick. Monetization is not about preventing the wrong audience from seeing content above their age limit. The point is, it isn't up to Google on what ads get placed where. It is the advertiser, the creator, and the audience.
Or just ask for sponsorship OUTSIDE of Google.
I'm just saying, this seams like a terrible idea for RUclips. Even if they are trying to make it kid friendly, do they have any clue how much they'll lose from this? Good luck, Sparklez.

Alphabet has been rather benevolent all this time since RUclips hasn't been profitable from the beginning. Right now the algorithm is a bit ruff around the edges, but it will get tuned in time and soon things will be normal.

So for anyone actually curious what this is about, it's mainly more firm control on videos that may be considered disinterested by the advertiser for their products that would otherwise be innappropriately unrelated and be wasteful of their business, which otherwise in terms of ads was much less organized before. It's like black listing, but advertisers can opt in their ads to your videos. Currently it's speculated that the bot going through videos is as broken as any first bot Google sends out their door. It's basically out of Google's business with advertisers so stuff like "mayo advertisement on a video about suicide" doesn't happen where it's not to the advertiser's interest. What confuses me is that I thought we had the ability to choose what kinds of ads are in association to videos in monetization.
If you want a better idea of this, I'd reccomend Armored Skeptic's recent video on the topic. He explains it pretty well.

A lot of these new policies sound like people are putting fault on RUclipsrs for trying to entertain and/or make a living from that entertainment. Like the censorship one. Seriously, if parents are so worried about their children hearing something they think they shouldn't, then they shouldn't let their kids on the Internet without their supervision. But if they do "trust" their kids to be online alone, thats their problem. Those kids have a free choice of clicking on a video whether or not they should, no one is putting a weapon to their heads and saying "Hey, Click on this video that has graphic language and graphic images in game of how to murder someone and another person sitting in a corner smoking a blunt." RUclipsrs shouldn't be held responsible for what a person, child, teen, or adult decides to click on and/or watch on the Internet. They need a news flash that the real world isn't a bunch of unicorns and rainbows, and glitter and floating stars that make dreams come true. What makes them think the Internet is any safer than reality?
I admit, I'm not too excited for the day when my children start using curse words, but I know its going to happen, and I am just going to have to teach them when its okay and not okay to use them. I mean I'm not going to try to restrict them, because I use curse words too, so that would just make me a hypocrite. I try my best not to curse in front of them, but I know that my boys are going to hear them in places aside from home. I just have to accept that its part of the real world, and my boys have the free choice of using these words or not. If a parent as a problem with curse words and the content that their children are going to see and hear in the real world and on the Internet, then they might as well lock their kids up in a tower for the rest of their lives.
I hope nothing extreme happens to RUclips because this is what i want to do for a career. :/
