As a DC Entertainment fan with a long view of the content, I really hope it succeeds. (Though, yes, they DID do Cavill dirty.) nevertheless, what I hope and what I expect are two VERY different things.
I don't think Gunn fans realize how much of the DC fan based isn't going to turn out for this no matter how good it is. Personally, while I had some issues with the so-called "Snyderverse" my main gripe is how WB abandoned the cast and audience that had already invested BILLIONS into a storyline they dropped like a hot potato. After how they treated the fans and the cast I honestly have no desire to give WB a penny of my money. If the Gunnverse is epic I'll watch, but I'll do it for free. No studio should be rewarded for that level of nonsense.
@ Perhaps, but my question would still be one of why they needed to blow the budget on designing a garbage suit that needed an entire movie’s worth of CGI to fix in post. And a question of why not just design a better suit from the start and save the money.
You just cite rumors about the budget of the movie, that even if they are solid they are still rumors, and then proceeded to just give your shitty opinion based on nothing, well, the henry cavill hashtag says it all... Also, a true DC fan would be hoping that the movie is successful, especially because of how close it is to the Superman from the comics, better go see Rebel Moon or Sucker Punch if thats your kind of thing

@@fred_flinstone8 you do know GOTG 1 had a 250M dollar budget, and at the time guardians was an IP most human beings haven’t heard of, on top of that you have James Gunn who’s last movie was 4 years before Guardians, and it’s a funny ok super hero comedy called Super, I might be wrong about this being the last movie he directed before guardians but still these are not the signs of a huge blockbuster, Still with a huge budget of a 1/4 billion dollars, an ok director and a unknown group of super heroes and where basically only Zoe Saldana had been on a big Hollywood production he managed to turn that into 773 million dollars. The Suicide Squad had a 185M dollars, huge actors tide to it, and it made around 168M WW, so having a Lower budget movie doesn’t guarantee you that it’s going to make money. I want to point out that there were lots of people predicting that the 2022 Batman movie will fail. I didn't like that movie (couldn't bring myself to even finish it), but it was a success in the end.
@@JamesJohnson-dz1gj No, it was right in the middle of that (2022). But I think it still did well because it was a SOLID movie featuring BATMAN and made for a reasonable-ish budget.
@@fred_flinstone8 Yes, but the upcoming movie (a) features Superman, literally THE superhero, no-one more recognizable and (b) is produced by James Gunn, who despite all the things about him delivered some of the most popular Marvel movies so many people will come to at least check out what's up with all that new DC movies. And I remember people constantly talking about how the Batman movie is a total disaster according to the leaks, director is in panic, two main leads have been caught having sex on the hood of the Batmobile prop, etc. My prediction: the new Superman movie will have a moderately decent box office, but I personally won't like it very much as well as the direction for the other movies.
I think it depends on what WB considers a success for DC at this point. Keep in mind, the first "Pacific Rim" movie lost money if I'm not mistaken, but that didn't stop Hollywood from making a sequel to it based on how well audiences and critics liked it because they felt the sequel would make bank. Granted, the sequel lost even more money, but still. I agree with everything you're saying. I doubt this new Superman film will do as well as they're hoping it will for all the reasons you just said. Plus, the behind the scenes drama has ruined a lot of the hype imo for it as well. The Henry Cavill situation especially. Granted, I agree with the recasting, even though I loved "Man of Steel." I make no apologies to anyone for admitting that. However, with the way they handled the whole situation, I think that's going to turn off a lot of superman fans as well from giving this new version a chance. It's sad, but it's reality. I'll definitely give this film a chance, but you know some fans won't because some are still turned off by how WB screwed over Henry Cavill with how long they strung him along for years only to see little to no pay off over it. I also think they're rushing out Superman too soon imo. Yes, I get it. You want to make a movie before his rights go to public domain. I respect that. However, this seems a bit rushed. Plus, I'm still not fond of the idea of them introducing Krypto the Superdog in this film as it's being reported. If that's true, then why? Please for the love of god...why? Don't get me wrong. I love Krypto. I even watched a few of the episodes of the cartoon show he had on Cartoon Network sometimes. However, Krypto wasn't even embraced by audiences in his own animated film a few years ago for kids? Why would you think a live action version of that character will work in a live action superman film?
Yeah, they tried to be like marvel for years, and since the batman came out 2 years ago, and now that Superman and the others are getting their own projects, DC is starting being themselves now
Agree it will be a box office flop. General audiences arent willing to invest with a reboot so soon. This generations superman will always be Henry Cavill....just like the past generation couldnt let go of Christopher Reeve. Also after the cartoonlike Schumacher batman movies, Chris Nolan and team spent years grounding the dark knight/man of steel universes, making them more believable(which i think is what audiences want). This dcu seems to going back to that cartoonlike campy tone. But who knows
@@AshrafAnam If James Gunn’s Superman fails, there’ll basically be nothing left. And WB(D) will, like it always does, default to just telling Batman stories until the brand has been sufficiently rehabilitated for the company to try again with other heroes.
James Gunn Superman ABSOLUTELY will fail. 100%. Tearing down superhero movies has become the Internet bloodsport of Choice these days. Beyond that, Gunn demonstrates astounding cultural tone deafness by featuring a black man with a letter painted across his face. Only the most isolated and ridiculous incel Geeks (which, I suppose, includes me) even know who Mr. terrific is. Big budget movies need to play to the mass market, to the mass numbers of theatergoers who will have no idea whatsoever of the character’s legacy, or why, in 2025, DC was stupid enough to feature a black man wearing blackface. Forget the Flash, Superman Legacy will be the Hindenburg of superhero movie failures.
They certainly have their work cut out for them. Especially if the budget is as high as some reports have suggested. I don't understand how the studios continue to allow these budgets to be so high. Is there some type of "The Producers" type shenanigans going on where producers are making more money from a flop? I'm kind of half joking, but it just doesn't make sense. Having said that, I'd have to think the executives aren't expecting the movie to make a billion dollars. I guess they could be that dumb, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they have their expectations a bit lower for a decent success that has really good reviews and is a strong foundation. If that's the case, I'd say they probably have their expectations in and around what the The Batman did, which was $772 million. $750-$800 million with really good reviews and audience reception might be enough for them to keep moving forward. If it's lower and has even just middling reviews and audience reception, I would say Gunn and his universe are in trouble.
I largely agree. For the record, I think their focus SHOULD HAVE BEEN on making the strongest Superman movie possible-but that they also should’ve been mindful of doing so with a budget made in light of the returns that they could realistically expect.
@@fred_flinstone8 Agreed. Especially now after a movie like Godzilla Minus One was made for $15 million, you'd think these studios would be trying to replicate that, and hopefully they will. I'm not even saying they'd have to go that low as I think the director of Minus One is kind of a special case, but they can't keep things at $125-$150 million?
@ EXACTLY. This company is in 40 plus BILLION dollars of debt. Now is NOT the time to experiment with massive budgets on speculative, weird, unconventional, roundabout ways of building a cinematic universe just to prove that they can be different from Marvel. The order of the day needs to be sticking with SURE BETS and making said bets for as low a budget as possible.
I understand this arugement if the movie was part of the DCEU but its not and its a reboot and I'm pretty sure the hype that will be build is that it will be the start of the new DCU. The argument you making that James Gunn doesn't know dc as he does marvel is bull because if you look at the reviews of the suicide squad and peacemaker was a success so can you explain that and how its getting a second season if by you have failed. These arguments seem to be more personal and the dislike of James Gunn and the dislike of the more comical side of comics plus why judging everything from a couple shots that haven't been edited and fixed up in post its like saying a building that's underconstructing will never hold tons of weight if you look at it when they have just put the beams. One argument you could have made without making yourself seem bias against Gunn is that superman will be coming out the same month as the Fantastic Four because there is hype in that movie also with A list actors that can and will take some audience to watch it over superman. The argument of saying how dceu has turned off so many people but the most recent shows and movies that succeed can be agrued that its gonna help DC promote the superman movie like the batman, the first joker movie (you can definitely argue how the second movie hurt the dc in the view of the general audiance), the penguin, peacemaker, and most likely creatural commander. These movies and shows have been building the trust of the general audiance plus Superman is famous superhero so that alone will bring eyes to the movie but it if it was a smaller time superhero or a less known then people being iffy can be valid but look at the last stand alone superman movie it was like by most people so and look at the solo superhero movies that are part of the Justice league has been pretty well expect for the flash. So going on to say that the movie is doom to fail is just someone that has no care for the dc movies or doesn't like Gunn writing of movie which is fine but going to fail is a large stretch cuz the movie can easily succeed as well though and make 1b in the boxoffices or it can easily just do good not bad or great but good.
@@goldenboi9684 First, I’m not saying Gunn doesn’t UNDERSTAND DC or hasn’t done CRITICALLY SUCCESSFUL DC projects. In fact, USA do the exact opposite in the video. I think wb when it comes to James gunn is Largely relying too much on James Gunn History with the MCU and it's ties Back into the idea that they keep copying the marvel studios to steal an Audience That wasn't there to begin with Instead of trying to rebuild their own image on their own through genuine efforts of storytelling. Which is only going to contribute to further financial downfall. The reason why christopher reeves superman frist 2 moves was successful was because Richard Donner Put passion and Made a genuine effort to tell Superman’s Story for those two movies Despite the Studio medaling back then. As much as I want to see what james gunn is capable of. I wouldn't be surprised if he was lying because he took jabs at marvel studios if i remember correctly but i wouldn't be surprised if wb executives screwed him over either like many who worked for them in the past. I will Give him the benefit of the doubt just in case as well. I'll be honest it would be nice to see other dc characters be treated with more respect and given proper character development on the big screen similarly to the DCAU besides batman.
@fred_flinstone8 on the part about the dcau treatment. It's not something that can easily be pulled off under the current leadership or james gunn. That require total reboot and clean state of the creative team. A creative team that understands the dcau and few other dc shows. So they can take what works and adapt it properly.
I think Superman & Lois is a good show. But this James Gunn movie? I have the same concern as you do about there being too many characters in it. Perhaps that explains the big budget. I will be pissed if Superman & Lois, which gets a fraction of the budget that this movie gets, is better than the James Gunn movie. I don't want this to be a situation like the Sarah Connor Chronicles where they cancelled a good tv series in favour of lackluster movies. I know it's pre-production, but David Corenswet doesn't look like a manly man to me. Christopher Reeve rocked that bright blue and red outfit. Henry Cavill is definitely a man's man. I will wait and see. I want this movie to be good. They are trying to be too big and epic. They need to scale it down. In the 1978 movie, Superman isn't doing anything too epic. He tries to stop 2 rockets, and he turns back time. He saves Lois from the crashing helicopter. Those scenes wouldn't cost that much to produce today. Today is all about the CGI.....everything must be massive. The helicopter scene (I just rewatched it) is actually pretty simple. If that scene was done today then they'd probably add all sorts of unnecessary nonsense to it which just ends up inflating the budget. Lastly, if we have all these heroes and we know the villain is Brainiac, then I fear that this movie will end the same way that all the Avengers movies do: the heroes fight a massive CGI army of copy and paste soldiers. That formula worked for a while, but I'm sick of it now. Got a movie with superheroes in it? Let me guess: they're gonna fight a massive army in the end. TPP, if you actually read this, then I thank you for reading it.
Yes, I've long held that they should've just used the Superman and Lois writers to write Superman movies in the DCU, though I'm not sure regarding a director. While I don't think the Superman and Lois show was cancelled in favor of the movie, it's still infuriating how it all went down. (Especially given that James Gunn chose not to save the show by perhaps greenlghting it for a return on HBO MAX.)

Superman will be huge! I think you make a good point but I feel like you’re missing some context. Marvel has declined since Endgame, Deadpool and Wolverine barely made a billion arguably because of Wolverine’s return, other than that Marvel hasn’t done well with box office numbers, opening a huge opportunity for people to look to DC. The DCEU movies were all bad but I think that just makes fans more excited to see something new, especially with the Batman and the first Joker doing so well while not in the same universe technically, just seeing new direction is exciting. Idk about all the budget number stuff but it’s possible that was the budget but they spent a lot less so he was saying no in “haha that’s funny we were approved for that much but, I spent much less” and then maybe they can give the money back or something. Idk. I think even if that is the real budget Superman’s gonna make 1.2B at least. I’s possible they keep it in theaters for a longer run too if they believe in it. As much as I want to agree with you, I can’t fully subscribe to everything you’re saying lol. My stance is between yours and the author of the video. I don’t think it’s going to flop, but thinking it’s going to make *at* *least* $1.2 billion is kind of naive and wishful thinking. I want it to be good and do really well too but that’s just not a very realistic number imo, unless literally everyone loves it and goes back to see it over and over again (which could happen, you never know). But as far as the MCU not doing good lately, that’s not necessarily going to make the general audience look to DC. Because DC’s reputation is still in the gutter rn (besides the Penguin, but that’s separate from the DCU). The DCU is going to need multiple good quality projects in a row to get the audience’s trust and get them to get invested and keep coming back. But for right now it’ll be an uphill battle to get the kind of numbers they really want. I think $700-$800 million worldwide (if it’s good) is a more realistic and reasonable number for Superman. I don’t think the budget is no $360 million like this guy is saying, so it’s not going to be a flop if it doesn’t get to the $1 billion mark. But luckily, I don’t think it needs to make that much to be considered successful. One other thing I disagree with you on is ALL the DCEU movies being bad. There were some gems in that pile of filth and mediocrity lol. But it was definitely inconsistent overall, to say the least, as far as quality and continuity.

You don't need to explain, it's clear as day. Such a shame too. This might mark the end of DC movies outside of batman. Superman movies might just be abandoned. Something I seriously don't want to happen, because I'm tired of Batman films, I'm really am, so sick and tired of it. I yearn for something fresh.😥😥

Superman Legacy will be the Hindenburg of superhero movie failures.
Agreed (largely).

Yeah, I myself will watch the movie before I make any final decisions on the movie’s QUALITY. But FINANCIALLY, assuming the veracity of this budget as reported by WBD, I think it’s safe to say that this movie is likely doomed.
I think if you were saying this after a trailer for the movie came out and it was mid then I’d think different but, until we see a trailer this is my stance.
Anyways, you made a good video! And a good point. I’m excited to see how this turns out
Nah, Gunn’s Superman movie is gonna be Huge flopped Because for Snyder Fans, Now Cry Harder, You Gunn Lover Hack!!! #FireJamesGunn #BoycottDCstudios #BoycottWBD #RestoreTheSnyderverse
