The Japanese people should pay tribute to that pilot who fought day by day with unmatched courage and determination to defend Japan from the terrible American bombings, my greatest respect for you sir!

There would have been no bombings if the Japanese government simply surrendered. The war and bombing were military responses to Japan's War. It was the Japanese government which chose war over of peace and sent a whole generation of Japan's best to die in China, Southest Asia, the Philippines and Pacific. Those men deserved better, as did millions of others who died because of Japanese military aggression.

@@Zerox_Prime you obviously don’t know anything about Japan in ww2. Surrender and quitting just wasn’t in them. Right or wrong choices, they see it through. 99% of them were that way. The 1% who would be ok with that were considered deviant, weak, cowards, puss13s and worse.

@@r47168411 The cowards were the drones who gleefully carried out mass murder in China, wherever they invaded. Bayonetting babies was not an act of courage, nor was murdering 250000 Chinese in retaliation for 150 Japanese killed in America's Doolittle Raid over Tokyo. You suggest that Japanese had no humanity and were coerced drones of a homicidal, bloodthirsty military. Tell them that. Japan denies the Rape of Nanking and countless other atrocities. The pilot in this video seeks adoration for being part of Japan's greatest, most foul error. He was no hero and prolonged the destruction of Japan.

For a soldier and a pilot, nobody dies for nothing. Even for those who dies during training, Those who dies during the test flights, those who dies while investigating a crash incident, those who dies on landing or on take off from carrier and airfield. Nobody dies for nothing.
The same can also applies for construction workers and Motorsport racers in todays world. However, dying to protect your homeland and to protect those who can't fight is a whole lot meaningful even if the war was lost.

The Japanese are a truly great people. Twice in 100 years they came from a huge disadvantage to being a great power, this is a testament to their incredible national character. It is a shame that their rulers lead them to disaster, it was the flavor of the times. How they treated British prisoners was disgusting, I will not comment on the war in China.... We are products of our environments and as such victims of fate; this makes forgiveness all the more important. Forgiveness is how we can correct errors and enforce the rational.

Onboard the USS Midway I met a veteran F4U pilot who shot down an N1K2 that was on its way to crash against American ships. He said the Japanese pilot hardly knew how to fly the plane. Putting such capable aircraft to use in suicide missions shows how desperate things had become for Japan.

    • @-juno-takaleon3830
      @-juno-takaleon3830  7 лет назад +10

IIRC the N1K2 was never used for kamikaze. It was far too precious a plane. Although Ki-84s (which were also very capable) were used for suicide missions near the end.

Pardon me, but I am a little simple when thinking about whether men who fought and died in a war, died in vain or not. Many Japanese pilots perished during the war of attrition that Japan knew it could never hope to win. Bear in mind though, that a lot of American pilots were killed or went missing in action during the many air battles over the Pacific. It may have been some consolation to the families of those American pilots that the US of A won the war. But still, the killed American pilots are as dead as the Japanese pilots who lost their lives. Mr. Tomokazu was fortunate enough that he survived the war. He saw his country in ruins but he also lived through the times when it was rebuilt and turned into a powerful ally of the US of A. Of course he must feel indebted to his dead comrades who never made it back to base. That is why he claimed that they did not die in vain. To me, it makes little difference. Those who died, never saw the end of war. What I mean to say is that for the individual airmen, it didn't matter for which side you fought. American, Japanese, they all died in vain.

    • @FightingCucumber

AudieHolland: I think your post brings up the right questions about war.
If someone thinks country and honor come first then war is worth it. If you think countries are just artificial economic constructs that mostly favor the few at the top, then dying and destruction is a huge waste of talent, material, and everyone's time.
To me WW2 answered the old idea that lives in the minds of all economic elites: "Either I become or if necessary orient towards the dominant economic nation". The only alternative path for all of us is to imagine an alternative to domination. It's not easy, but war is always about economic competition by physical means and an end to war will only come through international or post national democracy.
