My Dad was actually at the 1973 Paris airshow and watched the TU-144 crash. From what he said, the TU-144, up until that point, was wiping the floor with the Concorde in impressive maneuvers. He is from a generational US military family and his dad was a Major in the USAF at the time, so he had much reason to favor the Concorde, as well.

I just watched images of the Tupolev crash. For some reason, the pilot pull the aircraft into a massive climb like it was some kind of fighter aircraft instead of the massive, giant sized bus that it was. He caused it to stall, which in turn pointed the nose into a very steep dive. He was trying to pull the plane out of the dive when structural integrity failed and the entire plane broke into pieces before it even hit the ground. Sad fate for the pilots and all involved.

Not true, Snoopy's computer and hence ascent module was just too heavy to reach orbit from the lunar surface It was a prototype LM that wasn't good enough for landing but was good enough to do a dress rehearsal

I can't help but think that landing someone from East Germany on the Moon before The US or ESA could land someone from western Europe would be a great way of dunking on the West.

We (USSR) didn’t copied Concorde. It was an COOPERATION with France. If you look into blueprints of Concorde and Tu-144, they have many differences. They are not same planes at all. However, Concorde is my favorite plane, and I really disappointed, that it was restricted in 2003. In year when I was born. I wish I could fly on it.

UR-700 has a HUGE payload capacity, outclassing even the Saturn V He can use Soyuz for crewed flights, and maybe Energia if he devlops it The N1 has too many engines for test lite, even at say 95% reliability, it would have 3× as many potential failure points
there's very little evidence the soviets copied any of the TU144 design from the Concorde. it's a supersonic passenger jet designed to carry ~100 passengers and cruise at around Mach 2, it's going to look similar for the same reason all the realistic American designs looked similar. the thing about documents being left out is also an urban myth of BAC, apart from the fact it's been denied by multiple sources it doesn't even make any sense. the soviet engineers weren't idiots they knew what a drum brake looked like and they knew how to build intake manifolds for their own engine design. under the hood they were about as different as two planes with that similar a design spec could be. TU-144 used turbofans, Concorde used turbojets, TU-144 weighed almost 10 tons more, the planes were even made of completely different alloys.
I am disappointed in you, Komrade. The vessel should be named the Konkordanski, not Concordanski. No wonder Premier Kerman gave The OKB more funds. All jokes aside, great build and great episode.

The Tu-144 was superior to the Concorde except for range, comfort, and the whole "it didn't actually work most of the time" thing.

Even today, Finland doesn't have a space agency. It wasn't part of ESA or Soviet-aligned so wouldn't really make sense for cold war Interkosmos
