I watched her in a grade 2 at Hollywood and she was of course in last and when she made her move, she had no place to go and it almost looked like she was going to jump over the Philly in front of her! Her head was so much taller than the other girls! She did get moved outside and won of course.
Trevor Denman, Santa Anita's track announcer. He was, by far, the best race caller. In addition to Trevor, Santa Anita also had the best bugler I have ever heard. Best turf course, especially the downhill turf course with the San Gabriel Mountains in the background. Spent many days at Santa Anita with my family beginning in the mid 1960's until 2015. Haven't been back since my two track "buddies" (Mom and Dad) passed away. Dad "baptized" all his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren as well as all the relatives from out of state. Mom was the best handicapper in the family, seemed like she hit the daily double and the pick 3 to begin the day. Studied the Daily Racing Form, program and at least 2 newspapers the night before and God forbid if you interrupted her! Edit: Forgot that race was at Hollywood Park even though I was there. Was so glad Trevor was on loan to call that year's BC.
This super female horse named Zenyatta was without any doubt a true legend on the racing track.Imagine a horse coming from behind between distance of 6furlong to 10 furlongs and beating the boys in the breeders Cup Classic. Now that I have seen Lady Secret ,Azeri and Rachel Alexandra all female dominance at 9furlong, beating the boys with speed,I can add these two giant distance closers Gentle Donna and Zenyatta to the list.❤
A moment we will never forget. To me one of the best Female horse EVER... The daughter of Street CRY and one of the best commentary from a Hall of Fame commentator Trevor Denman.
No one calls a race like Trevor. "...to the roar of the Santa Anita crowd...". He is full of genuine observations of the race with colorful language that is appealing to novices as well as old racing fans. Most callers I hear today are struggling just to describe what's happening with the horse positions & with anxiety in their voice. Trevor makes it sound easy. He is a relaxed horseman calling what he sees & adding accurate descriptful language of how the race is playing out. He makes something very hard sound easy. Try memorizing the names of horses & matching that to jockey silks for 12 horses. Then forget all those, & remember a new set of 12 30 minutes later. Do that 10 times a day & it's easy to understand how hard the job is for race callers.
You must have never heard of Chris Hammond from Jamaica he calls a race down to the dust flying up the snares of the horse snouts.Caymanas Park jamaica
Loved hearing him calling the races, nobody compares! How about the bugler, who "announced" the horses coming onto the track. Never heard another that played better.
This super horse 🐎 gives me goose bumps all the time watching her run I made money off her I felt it for real when she never caught blame on the line disappointed by the ride mike smith gave her
I don't know why im crying watching this . Over and over, from behind to that finish line is so dramatic. And i dont watch horse raicing . My first time.
Two American champion mares stand out in my books: Azeri, and Zenyatta. Zenyatta was so good, very few other mares wanted to race against her, which essentially made her America's version of Black Caviar a few later. Definitely one of the best, if not the best racehorse that the Moss Family owned.
America's version of Black Caviar?? You have to be joking? Black Caviar won 15 G1's in the premier competion of world turf sprinting. Only 1 of these was restricted to fillies and mares. Of the 19 races that Zenyatta won only 1 was an open G1. Winx and Black Caviar were head and shoulders above Zenyatta as reflected in their ratings.
Now this one as one of my favorite Breeders Cup Races!! When 19-time Champion, Zenyatta!! Beat the boys!! That was THE BEST RACE EVER!! It goes to show you that us women are very dominant!! She showed them what winning is all about!! Girl Power!

@@bgardiner3354 sorry, but the opposition that both mares faced were world class performers. Both mares would beat-up everything that was thrown at them. I followed both mares, and consider myself lucky to watch both mares live.
@@1jet1 so you'll know then how many races Zenyatta won in open G1's? The answer is 1... 1 from 19. The other time she ran 2nd, albeit somewhat unlucky. But it demonstrates how the margin for error diminishes against better opposition. Winx won 25 G1's... all bar 1 were against open class horses (so not restricted to fillies and mares per Zenyatta's opposition in 18 of her 19 race wins). And twice Winx also took on the handicapper giving weight to the best opposition available. Zenyatta could have been Pegasus... but her record is weak, sticking to synthetic, and beating up other distaffers. Winx raced on all good to heavies, left and right handed and didn't hide in distaff races. Their records are light years apart.

This is my main criticism of Zenyatta... not her, but connections. Her record was manufactured. She was easily up to the best US male dirt horses... but the margin for error against open class horses is less than racing against other distaffers. Mike Smith perhaps learned that lesson the hard way. She was impacted by blow back and ended up with too much ground to make up.
